This movie sucked gory movie ass.
I'm glad JLC makes a ton of late career cash, though. And there are a few sorta cute young men. Dylan Arnold.

This movie reminded me of an episode of Buffy. The Scooby Gang goes to hunt down Michael Myers. The townspeople scenes was like graduation where they all fight the mayor.

It was so intense and gory but did NOT feel gritty. It needed grit. It needed atmosphere.

R2- I loved the film, but I will agree with this. It lacked that original (and even part 2) lurid and gritty quality.
The film was beautiful to look at- but too Hollywood- even the lighting was fantastic but somehow it had a sitcom quality too it- It was very polished. Too polished.
And because they wanted the gore and special effects to be highlighted, the gore scenes were lit too brightly. The Big John and Little John set is a good example.

The cop who was killed in the flashback and the deputy that covered up his mishap were nice eye candy. Young Hawkins wasn't bad either.

"I didn't care about any of the characters."
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 29, 2021 4:16 AM |
^ There's always a great debate about this in horror movies. Some people want to care about the characters before they die and others don't. I personally like a little character development but I don't need a Joker-like character study.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 29, 2021 10:34 AM |
IDK how anybody couldn’t care about characters in this movie. You had original characters we’ve known for decades- Tommy, Lindsey, Marion especially- and I actually liked the new characters. This is why, if they are going to kill Marion (there is speculation Tommy didn’t die) they should have waited until the next movie and given her a better death.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 29, 2021 10:46 AM |
R8- Agreed- This film is getting no credit for this aspect.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 29, 2021 12:05 PM |
I won't believe Tommy or Karen are dead until I see a cast list without Anthony Michael Hall or Judy Greer. I know how horror movies do things. Characters who you think are dead miraculously survive after a trip to the hospital when the writers, producers, or whoever change their minds about killing them off.

R10 horror movies and soap operas do it all the time
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 29, 2021 1:20 PM |
Judy (Karen) is dead. She confirmed it.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 29, 2021 1:22 PM |
The movie was laughable. Not scary, too woke, Michael has morphed into an unstoppable superhuman killing machine and the hospital lynch mob was one of the most lamebrain decisions ever. EVER!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 29, 2021 1:48 PM |
R13 Yes, the mob of townspeople was already done in Halloween 4 anyway. They shoot a man named Ted Hollister, who they mistakenly believe is Michael Myers. Halloween Kills was like Halloween II and Halloween 4 mixed together.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 29, 2021 2:02 PM |
What is up with the word woke used for everything?
Yes, it was woke, it featured a gay couple. You’re right.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 29, 2021 2:05 PM |
Many claim it isn’t woke because MM killed the gay couple
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 29, 2021 2:11 PM |
It is though. They stuck a black actor in anywhere they could to make up for lost time.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 29, 2021 2:42 PM |
Gay couple, interracial couple, woman with sterotypically male job, man with stereotypically female job, male lead in dress, female lead in male drag.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 29, 2021 3:32 PM |
Wasn't one of the gays one of Michael's relatives? Brother?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 29, 2021 6:39 PM |
Oh so it’s woke if it doesn’t have 99% white cast in stereotypical roles. Gotcha.
There was a time when including a gay character was considered offensive and “woke” before it became a word.

What are you talking about?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 30, 2021 7:24 PM |
I just watched this movie last night finally and WTF
It’s so weird. There’s so many characters I couldn’t keep up. And they bring back these old characters to kill them off for the sake of bringing back old characters and killing them off.
I feel like the trend of killing legacy characters is getting old. It’s shock value is wearing off at this point.
Like I’ve already seen Tommy’s story in Halloween 6, I already saw Marion die in Halloween 7. I mean she’s been murdered TWICE in the Halloween movies, she’s pretty disposable lol.
The series doesn’t make sense anymore. What was the point of forgetting about the last 7 or 8 movies if they made him a Super human monster again? I thought eliminating the sequels was giving a reason to change him to some degree and make him more believable again. But he’s not.

Agreed- it blew chunks.

I hate these new versions because they fail at the one thing a horror movie is supposed to do: scare me. There's no suspense, no mystery. Just gory over the top killings (which I realize is the draw for many people.) I hate that they've turned Michael Myers into some supernatural entity. I hate JLC's new interpretation of Laurie Strode. I HATED Anthony Michael Hall endlessly chanting 'evil dies tonight!' I'm sure I'll see the next one since I've seen all the others but my expectations are zero
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 13, 2022 6:24 AM |
Never have I wanted to love a movie more going in and then left the theater shaking my head in disbelief at how bad it was. I'm a huge fan of the series and have seen all of them multiple times and even been to nerd conventions devoted to the Halloween series. Sadly HK is the worst of the lot. The plot/character choices were bad, the pacing was awful and JLC was barely in it. There were many more problems with it but it would take too long. I will watch the next one but they really need it to change course and get back to atmospheric scares not whatever this was that didn't feel like a Halloween film at all.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 13, 2022 6:51 AM |
All the new comments on spot on.
Now he’s super human again. Boring. BORING.
Killing legacy characters is not something I care to see. I can’t believe they let Lindsey live. Good.
They also removed an interesting part- that MM was obsessed with Laurie. Now, he doesn’t even know who she is. What? What’s the point now?
They are basically telling us Laurie is going to die in the next one. No thanks. I’m done.
They’ll kill off Gale Weathers in the next Scream. They’re practically screaming it . Stupid.
Hollywood is incapable of making a satisfying movie much less horror movie. Don’t even get me started on the latest Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 13, 2022 10:54 AM |
R22 The only reason for these sequels to exist is to get rid of the "Laurie and Michael are brother and sister" angle established since Halloween II. John Carpenter claims he never liked that plot twist, and many fans of the series say the same.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 13, 2022 12:22 PM |
I loved the brother/sister twist. Erasing the events of H2 and H20 and removing the brother/sister angle makes Laurie becoming a mannequin sharp shooter obsessed with him so completely overblown. What an ego to think he's spent the last 40 years thinking about her. She was just the one that got away.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 13, 2022 1:57 PM |
I loved the brother/sister angle. It didn’t mean he was any less a threat. They completely fucked up their dynamics.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 13, 2022 9:54 PM |
I agree with R28 & 29.
I prefer the sibling angle. Her new 'one that got away" angle is just dumb.
He has killed so randomly in the last 2 recent movies so why go to all the trouble with her & the lame family ?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 14, 2022 10:25 PM |
The sibling angle really worked. They rebooted this to essentially make Laurie Strode irrelevant to the series? I should know to be careful what you wish for. I wanted this movie with LS made and now I regret it. HW no longer knows how to make movies so why am I surprised they fucked this up?
