The Unforgivable with Sandra Bullock and Viola Davis

I’ll watch anything with either of these two in it.

Richard Thomas will finally win an Oscar! He's fantastic in this.

The British miniseries was excellent. This will have a hard time matching it. I see Sandra is trying to ugly herself up for the role. Suranne Jones (Det Bailey in Scott & Bailey) played it in the British version and she felt no need to do that - she just looked sorta beaten down and sad. That is acting. She was excellent.
I see they made Sally Wainwright an EP. Wainwright's credits include writing the original Unforgiven, Happy Valley, Scott & Bailey, Last Tango in Fairfax.

Will Viola show any snot? There are apparently Oscar nomination rules for that as well.

Viola will keep doing Oscar bait films for rest of her life. Her next Oscar bait role will be a disabled person,.

People need to stop putting EPIC ORCHESTRAL HYPE MUSIC in every movie trailer. It killed the mood for me.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 30, 2021 8:34 PM |
I can already surmise the " surprise" twist. The guy she offed was some type of molester. Whenever tv or movies want to depict a woman who engages in violence they go that route. I wish they would be more creative. I've Loved So Long with Kristin Thomas had a somewhat similar plot ( woman stays with family after long stay in prison) but at least the motive was genuinely unexpected and not done a million times before.

Halifax.

R8 I agree. At a point it becomes too much sensory wise. And combined with all the histrionics I actually find it off putting. I want to see a film not an opera.

That's not the real plot twist from the original that I remember.

I started watching this, got about 70 minutes in, went to the toilet, made a cup of tea, noticed next door's cat in the garden so went to out to chase it away, flicked the cat shit it had left in the grass onto the fence where it climbs over and then forgot about the movie and haven't put it back on yet.
The ages of the characters are all out. The actress playing Sandra Bullock's younger sister is the Irish actress who played Katie Benedetti in The Fall, the school girl who has a fling with Jamie Dornan's serial killer. They could pass as mother and daughter, but it's like watching Meryl Streep playing Anne Hathaway's older sister.
And Viola hasn't been in it much so far, and you don't cast her for a few scenes...

R13, go find the original, Unforgiven, on Youtube and watch that. It was very good. It was written by Sally Wainwright (Happy Valley, Last Tango etc).

So I put it back on and Viola's had her 60 second For Your Consideration scene as a character whose sole purpose is to advance the plot.
Still amazed at the casting of 57 year old Sandra as a woman who has been in prison for 20 years and is trying to reconnect with her 25 year old sister, who was 5 when she last saw her. If they'd changed it so they had the same father but he'd married a younger woman, that would have made sense, but no, they had the same mother.
Overall very disappointing.

KAREN!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 12, 2021 1:09 AM |
This was an Oscar bait fail. Sandra or Viola need to start looking for some Oscar bait scripts that involved disabled main characters.

r7 that's is differently abled person.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 12, 2021 9:42 PM |
it was ok but how the fuck was the sister still a minor if the shooting happened 20 years ago and she was five??
by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 12, 2021 11:28 PM |
Maybe she was born on February 29.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 13, 2021 12:33 AM |
I take it it's no good?

[quote]I take it it's no good?
It's just disappointing. It's like OH LOOK SANDRA ISN'T WEARING MAKE UP AND WORKS IN A FACTORY GUTTING FISH WHAT A BRAVE ROLE TO TAKE! And OH LOOK THERE'S A TRANS WOMAN IN THE OPENING FIVE MINUTES WHAT AN INCLUSIVE CAST!
There is an interesting story in there about rehabilitation of prisoners, guilt, trauma and forgiveness but this movie is not the one to do it.
[quote]it was ok but how the fuck was the sister still a minor if the shooting happened 20 years ago and she was five??
I wondered if I'd got that wrong as the younger sister was doing a piano recital in a college/university type place, but no, it was clear that the sister was 5 when Sandra last saw her and that Sandra had been in prison for 20 years following the shooting.
In the original TV version Suranne Jones was in her late 20s, convicted for murder when she was a teenager, which led to a relatively short prison sentence.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 13, 2021 7:44 PM |
I think in the original Suranne did 15 years.
Does the "remake" have the same ending or is it some other surprise. Not looking for you to post a spoiler but if it's not the same then I'll know it was something different. TIA.

Sandra has had some bad face work
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 17, 2021 2:45 AM |
Did Julia Roberts turn it down?

She sho is ugly

It seems like a lot drama.

Poor Viola.

Jon Bernthal should have the DL lusting
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 17, 2021 3:22 AM |
Sandra’s lip fillers are really obvious with her makeup-free look. That said, it does look good.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 17, 2021 3:22 AM |
Why are her eyes so small now?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 17, 2021 5:20 AM |
The white lips look through out the movie was not a good look
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 17, 2021 7:10 AM |
Sandra's eyes look like she has blepharophimosis, like the british actor Tim McMullan. Her surgeon should have his license revoked.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 17, 2021 3:55 PM |
Viola's part was small but if she is not nominated that means we are all racist
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 17, 2021 5:20 PM |
Awful.
I know it's based on a British mini-series from a decade ago but it also appears to be a humorless knockoff of Double Jeopardy (the Ashley Judd masterpiece). What a dreay, chore of a film. And who knew botox was available in prison?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 19, 2021 3:02 AM |
Can someone please tell me if the "surprise" is the same as the original TV mini-series "surprise"?
I guess I can go find The Movei Spoiler. com - don't even know if that still exists.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 19, 2021 3:43 AM |
Sandra Bullock was too old for the part. I wonder if they considered actresses in their late 30s or early 40s for the part.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 19, 2021 5:20 AM |
Okay I checked TheMovieSPoiler.com and yes it's the same twist BUT it doesn't make as much sense due to the age of the characters.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 19, 2021 7:26 PM |
I just found a website called Plugged In which discussed problematic aspects of the movie which include
[quote]God’s name is abused seven times, and Christ’s name is abused thrice.
[quote]A couple kisses.
[quote]A trans person runs the halfway home where Ruth lives.
[quote]An interracial couple has a hard discussion about the foster care system and what would happen if their own sons (who are dark, like their mother) had been in Katherine’s place.
[quote]We hear people screaming at each other in anger.

Saw this film last night. It's complete rubbish.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 4, 2022 12:47 AM |
Sandra's character should have been black in order to be considered Oscar bait. I think she could do it.
