‘Double Impact’ (1991) & all those terrible Martial Arts movies from the 80s and 90s

What were some of the other movies that came out during this period, when Martial Arts films were popular and had people going to see them? I was a kid at the time and never liked them 🤷 my Grandma and stepdad loved them, I found them boring mostly.

I think I can appreciate them more now as campy flicks but what was up with all the “White man beats up all the Asians with martial arts” in all these movies? I mean Jean-Claude Van Damme was like the face of these movies with Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal, Dolph Lundgren and others. It reminds me of those old Westerns where the white men are killing all the Indians and Native Americans.

Were there any you liked? I liked Bloodsport. That’s about it.

I was obsessed with Van Damme. He was one of the first men I can remember having a big impression on me. And can you blame me? Look at those thighs and that ass.

How about Dolph Lundgren's homoerotic/S&M torture scene from 'Red Scorpion'?

The look on his face is positively orgasmic.

Dolph’s movies had a tendency to have a bit of homoerotic moments. In ‘Showdown in Little Tokyo’ Brandon Lee’s character tells him he saw him strip down to get into the hot tub and he would be terrified to (after Dolph tells him Tia Carrere is sleeping in his room because she’s terrified) and then let’s Dolph know he has the biggest dick he’s ever seen. Dolph turns around and thanks him with a smile.

Dolph’s movies also were never box office hits like the others.

Does Mortal Kombat count? The theme song is timeless. I also loved 3 Ninjas as a kid. I had a crush on the guy who played Rocky.

Dolph gets whipped in Masters of the Universe too, which is also a Cannon B-movie.

Jean Claude had the nicest ass ever committed to film.

R8 no. That’s a movie adapted from a video game. That brought out the teens and kids.

Jean-Claude really had the most amazing ass ever. I’d pay to see him do those splits nude.

I only watched those films for the acting.

You need to really pre-lube before a double impact.

Why were those movies so popular? I never understood it.

They always felt like TV movies yet people flocked to see them in theaters.

I think most of Dolph’s movies had some sort of homoeroticism, something you didn’t see with most of the other dudes in their movies.

Hollywood kept trying to make him a big movie star like Arnold, Sly or even Steven Seagal, Van Damme etc. but his movies were mostly B movies that didn’t make a lot of money vs Van Damme who started in B movies but they made money so he became A-List.
