Do you think gay porn is detrimental to your mental health?

Haven’t watched it much since the great porn purge. Most of it sucks tbh.

Like a lot of it but holy shit the retards who hold the cameras for Sketchy Sex and Fraternity X need to get a clue. It’s like they’re TRYING to frame their shots as poorly as possible. Those boys need to be sold into slavery—they’re utterly useless.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 24, 2021 4:19 AM |
It’s probably fake amateur porn. They are trying to make it look like “real” guys filming each other.

How are you guys masturbating? Using your imagination like fraus?

I think it's detrimental to your mental health only if your mental health is on the edge already. If you're sane, live a full life and have good friends, watching porn isn't going to turn you into some kind of freak.

I mean, if you have some sort of sex addiction, or it's having some negative effect on your life, then sure. But plenty of people enjoy erotica and are just fine. I think it's perfectly healthy as long as you have the right perspective about it all.

by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 24, 2021 11:57 AM |
When there are no women in it then porn is just as detrimental to the bottom.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 24, 2021 12:03 PM |
What's wrong with men using their imagination? I've done so ever since I started masturbating, I don't see what's "frau-like" about that. My imagination allows me to imagine things exactly as I want, rather than use something others have decided is sexy.
I like porn, but I only tend to watch the amateur stuff. Prefer seeing it more in a reality way, than a fake way.
Pictures do the job often for me, I look at pics of rugby players and find that really arousing, and then my mind takes it where I want to go.
I do watch porn, but as the poster above alluded to, there isn't much new out there once you've had a good look around.
I don't understand the 'NoFap' thing either, each to their own of course, but it's healthy to keep the pipes clean. If they were doing a "No Porn November" thing instead, I would understand.
[quote]Anybody else notice there's this weird sort of anti-porn mentality everywhere lately? Now even gay men? Why does it feel there's this regressiveness going on with sex lately...
I've noticed it with sex generally, and yeah, it's surprisingly among gay men now. I'm 40, always appreciated the openness re: sexuality with other gay men. But recently when I've been somewhere with younger gay men, they seem horrified by things I've done, that I don't think are that strange. Threesomes seem to upset them greatly. It's weird.

Also, Just because one uses "visual aids" doesn't mean they aren't also using their imagination. More often than not, they both go hand in hand, especially depending on one's fantasy.
As for the no masturbation thing (that isn't religious based), that's some weird stuff. I wonder what's pushing it? And quite anti-science/health too. Regular masturbation is incredibly important for prostate health, among other things.

Even though I’m a 24 year old guy rife with hormones, I really don’t like mass-media porn. I’m all about Twitter and Reddit amateurs. I have nothing against furries, but I believe they invented their fetish because they’re scared to admit they’re vanilla in the sack. My friends, I desire vanilla sex, and I’m not afraid to admit it — I don’t need chains, fursuits and exotic interest. Just give me a hot twink with a nice, thick cock. Cut preferable, but honestly don’t care.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 24, 2021 1:52 PM |
It's not detrimental. People like sex and like to watch attractive people in the nude or having sex. Look at cave paintings or Ancient Greek statues. It's only bad if you're addicted but I even I think it's more of a habit to combat boredom than a true dependency. Teenage boys are porn addicts but they most grow out of it when they get real jobs, responsibilities and relationships. I would say too much media exposure in general is detrimental especially social media. Porn alone has not caused the same amount of damage to mental health as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram has

The occasional porn video is fine. However, I have found the women over at the Female Dating Strategy quite correct when they say “porn sick, limp dick”. People who watch too much porn DO end up being desensitized. They have weaker erections and lower sex drive, not to mention developing various fetishes in order to find new kinks to become desensitized to.
Better to avoid it and avoid jacking off if you can.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 24, 2021 4:30 PM |
I don't watch gay porn anymore - in terms of 2 or more guys together. It's just so formulaic and I can't imagine myself in the scene. Plus they never do what I want them to do at the moment I want, the camera angle, etc. And the acting can be either over the top or could earn a submission for a Razzy award.
I like to let my imagination go in solo videos or standard solo pics. And I want more regular guys - I'm sooo sick and tired of the gay porn 'look'. It's so bizarre to me that standard is still around after all these years.

How is gay porn "detrimental to your mental health?"
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 24, 2021 4:44 PM |
R16 Yes. YouTube has online gurus who are anti-porn and anti-masturbation and push the idea that not masturbating creates discipline and a healthier mind and basically if you stop masturbating, you can be successful in life and get more women.
It’s a gimmick for social media influencers. It’s no different from dating gurus or stock market gurus. I think since the pandemic, the No Fap movement has died down but I still see ads here and there on YouTube for it.
It’s anti-male / masculinity. Men are sexual creatures. Porn has been around for thousands of years, there’s porn on the walls of Pompeii. Anti-porn people can fuck off.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 24, 2021 4:54 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 24, 2021 4:57 PM |
Porn keeps me away from making mistakes on Grindr. I enjoy porn and masturbation and the idea that I’m losing out or losing cause I don’t want to have physical sex with someone all the time doesn’t make sense as hookups can be dirtier and dangerous.
I’d rather regret watching fisting porn when I’m desperate and horny than saying yes to some old fat queen close by who has 7 cats and will give me a quickie.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 24, 2021 5:00 PM |
It's homophobic to some extent too. The anti porn and sex negative groups don't understand that for many young gays, bi and lesbian teens. There's still not that many outlets for them. Not saying kids should be shown porn. But let's be real, many teenagers know how to access it. I was accessing it at middle school age and I wasn't out to anyone yet. Watching gay porn from a home was a lot safer than trying to chat with people online and going to unsupervised places to hook up

R38 - well, 90% of straight porn is some degrading, unrealistic, offensive bullshit anyway.
With gay porn, if there is control or even BDSM, it just feels more consensual. What women have to do in straight porn is just demeaning and fucked up.
I don't love gay porn because it's just so formulaic and the cast is so look-alike, but it is far more sex-affirming than the psychotic shit that passes for straight porn.

There are a couple different things being conflated:
- Younger people are having less sex these days than they used to. That has pluses (teenagers not getting peer pressured into sex) and minuses (teenagers isolating themselves thanks to the Internet).
- The anti-fap anti-porn movements for reasons of ideology - some kind of Jordan Peterson type bullshit about being “strong” and “manly” by resisting. Dumb.
- The anti-fap anti-porn movement for reasons of sexual health - people making a good but extreme argument that overdoing it can physically and mentally desensitize you in ways that hurts your sex life overall.
- People finding a lot of porn boring, formulaic, and full of same-looking guys. This is just a matter of taste. Personally I agree with the poster upthread who found it more fruitful to look at a picture of a rugby player.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 24, 2021 5:30 PM |
Nearly all porn, gay or straight, is from the perspective of the guy. For gay porn, that works fine, although I wonder whether tops or bottoms feel neglected as a market. For straight porn, that means watching it as a frau is unsatisfying for many of us because the female character is more like a prop/sex doll than a real point of view. Straight porn doesn’t cater to women users (theoretically half the market) while gay porn seems to do a better job appealing to all participants.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 24, 2021 5:36 PM |
I agree. Most straight porn is terrible and fake. The girls look so uncomfortable or bored. The bleached blonde hair, so much makeup, plastic tits, over-the-top moaning and always in high-heels. The guys usually have busted faces and you barely see them anyway. They cast on their dick size. Most lesbian porn is not real lesbians either, also made for straight dudes.
On the bright side, there's now straight porn that caters to women. The guys are hot and the actresses are pretty and more natural looking. And foreplay and orgasms are the focus.

R31 there is no scientific or medical evidence supporting the theory porn causes erectile dysfunction. In the 1950s anti porn campaigners said it caused blindness, then they said it turned men into rapists and now they say it makes you impotent.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 24, 2021 6:21 PM |
Porn definitely fucks with your brain. I believe that’s been proven. Many younger guys now actually struggle to get hard in real sex situations because their brain is hooked to porn and it pretty much desensitises them to bring with a real guy. I found for a while it was affecting me, making it harder to get turned on unless I closed my eyes and thought about favourite porn scenes. So I went cold turkey. I didn’t make a big song and dance about it like the “no fap” people. Now and again I might watch a couple minutes but it’s not on a regular basis and I feel much better without it. Anyway, I have such a vivid imagination, that can turn me on just as much as porn ever did.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 24, 2021 6:31 PM |
One more thing I hate - there are always the hook-ups where you can tell they watch way too much porn and expect the sex to be the same way.
All of the vocalizations and stupid porn talk "Yeah, you like that dick" - it's just so campy and over the top. I'm not opposed to some talk in the bedroom, but you know what I'm talking about - it's just cliche and ridiculous.

R41 I can't tell if you are a guy or a frau but I am sensing that you probably hate straight porn because women in straight porn don't get treated like some princesses. A straight version of mainstream gay porn like Sketchy sex, Fraternity X would be in a straight up Rape porn territory. So, mainstream straight porn just portrays them as whores who want nothing but cocks.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 24, 2021 6:52 PM |

I had a very short stint in porn (by accident) but I did a shoot for The Playboy Channel (no nudity) and it was a porn actress interviewing people on the Venice Boardwalk, and this one girl said she didn't know how to be verbal in bed. And the Porn actress's advice was to just say out loud what was currently happening. Men like hearing it and she doesn't have to be inauthentic. I thought that was great advice.

Straight porn is detrimental because it is designed by men and an unrealistic portrayal of most women. These are straight men's fantasies. It sets up an unrealistic expectation for men which can result in women being hurt or raped or worse.
The beauty of gay porn is that it is VERY realistic. All the acts depicted are things that many gay men actually engage in.
Gay bottoms are happy to be used and abused in the exact ways that are depicted on screen.
It's unlikely for a gay man to become addicted to gay porn because they know they can always go out and get the real thing.
Heterosexual men can easily become addicted because what they want is generally not available in real life without paying for it.
Heterosexuals have the additional concerns in doing freaky things to include: pregnancy, rape allegations and general accusations of toxic masculinity. For the most part those are not concerns for gay men.
Heterosexual men are jealous that Gays don't HAVE TO fantasize because they're not restricted by convention in real life sexual practices.
Gay porn is not detrimental to mental health because it is 100% REAL!
by Anonymous | reply 66 | October 26, 2021 5:58 PM |
Gay porn always seemed more consensual than straight porn. Men are hornier than women. Straight porn always looks awkward, fake and you can tell the girls aren't into it. They are usually paired with ugly guys with big dicks. The fake moans and dirty talk is always cringe. It's gotten worse. 70s and 80s straight porn looked more erotic and sensual and women were more natural.

by Anonymous | reply 71 | October 26, 2021 6:59 PM |
The 'porn creates impotence and bad sex' argument is probably the most rational one, not the rapist angle. If you're watching porn and beating off a few times a day, you are not going to be super-charged for real sex activity. And the porn is going to train your sexual preferences.
You can tell the effects that porn has on gay male sexuality by looking at online profiles and ads. The hyper-specific tastes, and the very specific acts requested, are straight out of porn vids. Nobody cared before the current porn explosion that their hookups were between 21 and 30 years old, with trimmed or shaved pubes, and required to provide a face shot of cum on demand.
Before this, nobody was looking for sex situations like ass-up, seeking multiple pump-and-dumps that are straight out of porn. People like(d) and enjoy(ed) mutual sexual pleasure before, and it was more organic and personal. Everything seems like it has to be staged now. The no-talking rule is the strangest new custom, custom made for millennials and Zs with social anxiety (and meth abuse), and again, people accustomed to watching porn vids that have no interaction between the participants save for penises and holes, and are viewed on mute.
Another important point is that troll OP's loaded question is trying once again to criticize gay men specifically. For any thing that's going on with gay men, the straight world is experiencing it 10X greater. Porn does this same shit to straight men as it does gay.

I sometimes like watching that retro stuff, and it's interesting, even a one night stand or casual situation there will be referred to as "making love" and people will look like they're really into each other.
There are some companies now that do make romantic sex videos, but it's like it's become a specific fetish, rather than the norm.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | October 26, 2021 7:20 PM |
[quote]The hyper-specific tastes, and the very specific acts requested, are straight out of porn vids.
But it's not just restricted to porn though. That is just modern society as a whole. Everyone wants exactly, specifically what they want, when they want it. I guess you can blame the internet on that. But I wonder if the same people on this thread would object to porn if it were announced today that all porn and sexually suggestive content were being removed from the internet immediately 🚨

r74 I too, sometimes watch vintage gay porn, circa 1970, because I find it interesting that in the early era, they were trying to mimic mainstream movies, and actually tell a story that happens to have sex and nudity in it. R76, agreed! There was one I saw about a couple who were trying to get another, more innocent couple involved in their sex lives, and it actually was presented more like a real movie, just with a lot of real sex in it.
To add to what I was saying before, I remember one in particular with these two guys who were best mates. One of them was a cad, he would fuck woman after woman just for fun, and the other was a one woman type of guy. The movie was about the contrast in their friendship. But what was interesting is that the guy who slept around was still portrayed as being really into the women he was with and treating them well, whereas I feel that story now would have him treat the women badly.

There's some sketchy aspects to straight porn like naive young women doing nude modeling and being told it won't get published or getting filmed in dressing rooms. A lot of young girls going to NYC or LA in hopes of making it big getting roped into sexual exploitative situations. Then Central and Eastern European porn that looks shady all around. This is a problem in gay porn as well but not to the same extent since the number of perverted straight men far outnumbers that of perverted gay men.

I don't think it is detrimental to the mental health of most people. It is just images to assist in beating off. The former Surgeon General of the US, Joycelyn Elders said getting a release through masturbation is healthy.
I think porn is normal and helps reduce the spread of STI's which can be even MORE detrimental to some people's mental health.

I was in college when AIDS hit and porn became my safe sex alternative. Unfortunately this continued for about 8 years since I wasn’t ready to come out.
I do think all that porn early in life warped my sexual perspective. I’ve gone on to relationships and boyfriends, but porn still has strong appeal.
I think porn in moderation is ok as long as it’s not your only outlet.

R16 Gay porn isn’t harmless to gay men. We’re not impervious to problems that affect the general population. On other threads on DL we’ve discussed the negative influence of porn on gays -pushing bisexuality/ftm trannies=gay men. Eventually this bad press gets around, hence the rise of anti-porn, even among gays.
R17 Gap porn has nothing to do with women. *Eyeroll* at not being able to addresses gay issues without having to insert gays into another issue

I used to jerk off to porn daily. Now it’s down to about one a week. It’s sufficient.

Yes, but so does living in this dysfunctional world.

Masturbation and porn could be detrimental to your mental health. Masturbation cost a lot of dopamine in your body. If you masturbate often, you wouldn't have dopamine left for your daily life. Hence, you feel depressed and then you masturbate more often to compensate for the low dopamine in your body. It is a vicious cycle.

I don't like watching two people having sex. I get more excited when a model appears fully-clothed, takes his shirt off, reveals his pubes, drops his pants, gets erect. That's all I need to get off.
I used to love Playgirl magazine, and the older issues of Blueboy, Torso and ITFM. I still get hard looking at Colt models.

That isn’t true.

That’s not even how dopamine works.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | November 1, 2021 1:56 AM |
R3 I can definitely relate. Once I started taking Zoloft, I lost interest in sex. I never had good luck, anyway, so it's no big loss.
Zoloft, also, helped me get through my younger sister's funeral two years ago, so I have no plans of getting off of it.
I'm 50 now, and I'm pretty much invisible, so I'm ok with that, too.

I love watching beautiful people orgasm.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | November 1, 2021 2:17 PM |
I think porn is bad for people who take it like an instruction book or documentary. For mentally well people not really.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | November 1, 2021 2:27 PM |
It's all about moderation. Masturbating while watching gay porn is one good way for stress-relief. But everything good (food, drink, entertainment, romantic relationship) can turn bad and unhealthy if it takes over your life. Hell, even breathing too much too fast (aka hyperventilation) is not good for you at all.
Always ask yourself: Do you control your vices, or do your vices, or one of them, control you? You lead a happier life when you are in control and appreciate your life and the choices you made, than when you believe you are powerless and conditions run your life for you, sometimes against your will.

Oh honey, I think STRAIGHT porn is bad for my mental health...
Straight Porn: "Fuck that pussy!! Fuck that pussy!! Fuck that pussy!!"
Me: "No, no, no!!!! Get it away!!!...(*starts to cry*)....get it away!!!"

That porn of Dolf shoving dolls dildos up his ass seems harmful
by Anonymous | reply 110 | November 2, 2021 8:40 PM |
Guys on livestream with that pink dildo hanging out of their asses while they rub their cocks through their underwear begging you to pay to see them naked (when their naked pictures are already all over the internet) is quite pathetic.
I think that very often gay porn IS DETRIMENTAL to the men doing it.
When I see a naked guy on camera begging for tips, I have a lot of questions:
How did he end up here? How did he go from someone's son with life goals to a drugged out trick? How does he face his family? What do they say to him? Why isn't he doing a job that feeds his spirit instead of this degrading shit?
by Anonymous | reply 111 | November 3, 2021 2:25 PM |
R111 So, you're shameless enough to be on porn sites (the only place where cam sites are advertised) to get your dose of jerk off sessions but the people who are on the other side doing the shit that you jerk off to somehow are the only ones doing the "degrading shit"? Just wear a robe and become a nancy nun already.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | November 4, 2021 2:16 AM |
Right, R112. There's a real element of "I fucked this chick, but she's a dirty whore" about that kind of thinking.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | November 4, 2021 9:13 AM |
R112 Puleese! Have u never been on a porn site? Those camera boys are always popups! I have never searched them out. They always look so sad, desperate and looking for attention --- kinda the way you are right now.
Instead of trying to shame someone from looking at porn (which everyone does), why don't you try to think before you speak so you can add something meaningful to the conversation instead of just making a jackass of yourself?
And in case your dumbass couldn't tell from my tone, your comment was REALLY STUPID!

Nope, it was spot-on. You're a pious hypocrite, preening and strutting your moral superiority to the people who produce the product you so enthusiastically consume. NONE of them would be there if you weren’t providing the audience.
Prostitutes often tell of guys who fuck them, then while getting dressed, turn to the girl and ask: ‘why do you do this?’ You want your orgasm AND your moral superiority, but we’re not buying it, and you KNOW IT!
So go ahead and write another three-paragraph rant about how ‘stupid’ others are for pointing out your bullshit. We can ALL see right through you.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | November 4, 2021 2:20 PM |
Gay porn is aspirational. Like a Birkin bag.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | November 4, 2021 2:57 PM |
R116
Like David Archuleta. His porn addiction was clearly brought up because of his religious upbringing and repressed sexuality and self-expression, which led to mental health issues. Gay men like him (yes he’s def gay) usually have mental health issues due to this. Gay men on average have higher rates of mental health issues largely due to society’s treatment of us.

R118 Your Dumbass "projecteth" too much!
You're BUSTED!😜
I cop to the shit I do. I've watched plenty of porn, but nope, I don't watch the camera boys. Solo porn does nothing for me.
But it seems I struck a nerve here with you. Are you one of those pathetic camera boys? BWAHAHAHAHA!
Did Daddy not love you enough as a kid? hahahaha
Why don't you fucking get a real job? What's wrong? Not enough people paying to watch you to sit around and play with your pee pee all day? LOL
You thought you'd be "in demand" but clearly you're not since you have time to come here and whine about your inability to earn a living! hahahahaha
As Rose Nylund would say, you have the kind of job for people who didn't get good grades in school!" HAHAHA
If only you were smarter! LOL
As John Wayne once said: "Life is hard, it's a lot harder if you're stupid!"
But of course, you already know that from personal experience! 😂😂😂😂😂😂

I used to get lonely for a boyfriend when I would watch gay porn films from the early 80s.
They had more of a story back then, so it made me feel lonely for the affection and (somewhat) romance in some of the films.
This was a few years before I was old enough to go to bars and meet other guys, so this probably played a role.

R125 One of the MANY differences between you and me is I don't need an Amen corner to tell me anything. Your weak, pathetic and insecure ass needs other people's assurances or you may go jump off a bridge.
What a dumb ass you are. Stop playing with your pee pee on camera (or trying to flame at people who are obviously much smarter than you are) and go find a real job.
