Gypsy 1962 Film
Know it has been done to death on DL, but just want to go there yet again after seeing clip of "Gotta Have A Gimmick".
Roz Russell chewing up the scenery. Natale Wood going from mousey Louise to bumping and grinding as "Gypsy Rose Lee". But best bit for my money are Betty Bruce as Tessie Tura, Faith Dane as Mazeppa, Roxanne Arlen as Electra. Those old NYC accents, and Faith Dane with a voice that could strip paint off an ocean liner.
Faith Dane ran for mayor of Washington, D.C. for years. She lost each and every time, but kept on trying...

Faith Dane Crannitch had a long, varied and rich life. She only just passed on last year (2020), and by all accounts was a firecracker right up to the end.

Who else was in running for Louise/Gypsy Rose Lee part besides Ms. Wood?
Please don't tell me one actress considered with Rita Moreno.

Betty Bruce (Tessie Tura) actually was a ballet dancer, she studied at Metropolitan Opera Ballet School with Michael Fokine.
Sadly world lost Ms. Bruce too young, she died of cancer aged 54 bit over a decade after film Gypsy was released.

Faith Dane was a friend and a huge supporter of the arts and lived a bohemian lifestyle until the end. She always brought her trumpet to rallies in support of DC Statehood. She dated Marlon Brando. Last month, a memorial service was finally held and the Mayor declared Faith Dane Day!
