Best Character in King of the Hill

If Miss Lindz were an animated character, she'd be Gilbert Fontaine Delatour Dauterive.

So much to choose from. I'd say Bill Dauterive. DLer, for sure.

As far as best episodes, I'd say the ones that are Dale-centric tend to be very good.

by Anonymousreply 1October 23, 2021 8:36 PM

Bobby is my favorite, but the clip in the OP is hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 2October 23, 2021 8:39 PM

Boomhauer is such a type ...

by Anonymousreply 3October 23, 2021 8:42 PM

That was one of the best shows ever. Dale Gribble, a man suspicious about everything except the fact that his son looks nothing like him, might have been the greatest character, but in retrospect he was disturbingly prophetic. Now he would be an ardent anti-vaxxer and Q-anon believer. The tendencies were there.

by Anonymousreply 4October 23, 2021 9:35 PM

The show was great but for some reason in the last few seasons became very right wing. And the final episode with Bobby becoming a Hank Mimi-Me was ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 5October 23, 2021 10:22 PM

I vote for the rapist dolphin that took Hank's virginity in the tank.

by Anonymousreply 6October 23, 2021 10:51 PM

King of the Hill is so much better than The Simpsons. I can't even watch the classic Simpsons episodes anymore, it's too much. King of the Hill gets better and better each time I watch it.

R7 sells propane and propane accessories.

by Anonymousreply 8October 24, 2021 1:03 AM

Pleasantly surprised to see KotH fans on DL. It’s criminally underrated.

That's my purse! I don't know you!

Both Peggy and Bobby were brilliant creations. They were so multi-dimensional.

But I should note LuAnn often got the very best lines: "Bobby, don't you know that models are some of the happiest people on Earth?"

by Anonymousreply 11October 24, 2021 1:55 AM

Well, what was I supposed to do, not dance with a dog?

IMO, Luann was a stupid character, as was the wife of Grandpa Cotton Hill.

Luann did have some good episodes, though. Like the Born-Again Virgin episode.

by Anonymousreply 13October 24, 2021 2:06 AM

Luann is SUPPOSED to be stupid.

by Anonymousreply 14October 24, 2021 2:34 AM

Too stupid, though, almost as bad as Kelly Bundy.

by Anonymousreply 15October 24, 2021 2:38 AM

R4 some of the best episodes revolves around the John Redcorn/Nancy affair.

Peggy was the best character IMHO. She’s was utterly obnoxious but that was what made her so damn funny.

“Bobby! You didn’t finish your arrrrrrroz con cheekin”.

by Anonymousreply 17October 24, 2021 2:43 AM

I liked Peggy. Kathy Najimy created a great voice for her.

I liked how oblivious she seemed about her limitations as a Spanish teacher.

by Anonymousreply 18October 24, 2021 2:44 AM

Let's not forget Dale's gay daddy, Bug Gribble.

Bobby in A Beer Can Named Desire is one of my favorite things ever.

"Well I need a window seat, cuz this flower is wiltin'..."

by Anonymousreply 20October 24, 2021 2:47 AM

Yeah, Peggy was an obnoxious and great character with her delusions of grandeur.

by Anonymousreply 21October 24, 2021 2:49 AM

R21, don't forget big manly feet that inspired Texas drag queens.

by Anonymousreply 22October 24, 2021 2:52 AM

Neighbor Khan was pretty funny. Daughter Connie or Khannie was boring like Lisa Simpson.

by Anonymousreply 23October 24, 2021 2:59 AM

Some of my favorite episodes:

[quote][bold]Propane Boom/Death of a Propane Salesman[/bold] (2.23 + 3.1) - Hank gets a job at Mega Lo Mart after Stickland Propane closes then Mega Lo Mart blows up

[quote][bold]Peggy’s Headache[/bold] (3.3) - Peggy learns about Nancy’s affair with John Redcorn

[quote][bold]To Spank With Love[/bold] (3.11) - Peggy spanks Dooley during her teacher evaluation

[quote][bold]De-Kahnstructing Henry[/bold] (3.13) - Kahn gets fired, Hank takes care of the Souphanousinphones

[quote][bold]Dog Dale Afternoon[/bold] (3.20) - Hank, Bill & Boomhauer steal Dale’s new lawnmower

[quote][bold]Wings of the Dope[/bold] (3.23) - Luanne sees Buckley’s angel on Kahn’s (Buckley’s) trampoline

[quote][bold]Happy Hank’s Giving[/bold] (4.7) - Thanksgiving at the airport

[quote][bold]To Kill a Ladybird[/bold] (4.9) - Dale thinks he has rabies

[quote][bold]Will You Pimai Neighbor[/bold] (4.18) - Bobby is a reincarnated llama

[quote][bold]Bobby Goes Nuts[/bold] (6.1) - Bobby takes a women’s self defense class

[quote][bold]Soldier of Misfortune[/bold] (6.2) - Dale vs. Mad Dog at the Gun Club; Mr. Big (Hank) responds to Dale’s Soldier of Fortune ad

[quote][bold]My Own Private Rodeo[/bold] (6.18) - Hank sees Bug Gribble at the Gay Rodeo

[quote][bold]Megalo Dale[/bold] (7.10) - Dale tries to exterminate Chuck Mangione at Mega Lo Mart

[quote][bold]Livin' on Reds, Vitamin C and Propane[/bold] (8.7) - Hank rents an 18 wheeler to move furniture for his mother

[quote][bold]Mutual of OmAbwah[/bold] (9.8) - The Hill family’s insurance lapses, Dale, Bill & Boomhauer use a deep fryer

The Frasier thread nudged me to start re-watching Frasier earlier this week, now I’m going to have to watch King of the Hill as well.

R20, also "I do believe I'll give room service a jangle and have them send up some étouffée."

by Anonymousreply 25October 24, 2021 3:14 AM

R24 Great list. I would add to that "Hank's Unmentionable Problem."

Seems a bit of an insult to Gilbert to compare him to Miss Lindz.

He'd absolutely be a Datalounger, though. When he revealed to Bill which of the three ladies vying for his attention was his biological cousin, she hissed at him, and he, of course, hissed back.

by Anonymousreply 27October 24, 2021 5:51 AM

That's a good episode, R26.

by Anonymousreply 28October 24, 2021 7:49 PM

"You know, at the beauty academy they teach us that people aren't black or white or yellow or red... but their hair can be."

Luanne Platter: I am a proud, ignorant woman and no one is going to change that!

An episode I've always loved is the one with the "Boggle" championship, where Peggy goes convinced (as usual) she's better than anyone else, but loses her first game and has to go down to the very bottom of the rankings to play the Boggle-Playing Chicken. Laurie Metcalf does the voice of her nemesis who has an absolutely hilarious evil laugh in the episode.

I also love when Bobby becomes woke about Thanksgiving, and goes to the neighborhood festivities just to guilt everyone about what he calls "Thanks-TAKING." It's a great parody of the way woke h.s. and college students become so rigid and inflexible and angry when they protest something.

by Anonymousreply 31October 24, 2021 8:03 PM

"Texas City Twister" was a good episode. Setting was Luanne's old trailer at the Shiny Pines Trailer Park. Hank gets caught up in the tornado and all his clothes (including his underpants) were blown off his body until he was stark naked.

Afterwards, Luanne said: "Remember when we saw Uncle Hank naked?" Both Hank and Peggy claim that Hank was not seen naked in the tornado.
