Apparently there is a problem with reading comprehension above. The NIH said that the money was used to study bat viruses BECAUSE their spike proteins were known to be able to infect humans. The "gain in function" was an accident of that research, not an intended aim of the research. So Fauci was not lying. Let me try to be more clear. If I took a flu virus and tried to make it more infectious and more deadly, I would be working on gain of function. If I took a flu virus and added something to it, such as a snippet of a some virus that everyone is immune to, in the hopes that it would weaken the flu virus, and instead the virus grew more virulent, I would not have been working on gain of function. The result would have been an accident of the research.

Yeah, and this has been explained many times, as you noted, but the usual suspects will not stop bringing it up, because they know that their vague and incomplete version of the story will convince a few people that this was a conspiracy to release a man-made virus.

Why that means you shouldn't get the vaccine for it is beyond me, but they also believe that.

I think the US funded Wuhan so that they could keep an eye on what the Chinese were doing in that Wuhan Lab. When Trump took over he rolled back some of the checks and balances and the Chinese went rogue. The rest is history.
