Migrant With AIDS & COVID Dies While Held by ICE
Pablo Sánchez-Gotopo, 40, died October 1 at Merit Health River Oaks in Flowood, Miss., according to an ICE press release. “The preliminary cause of death was from complications with acute respiratory failure, acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), pneumonia, acute kidney failure, anemia, and COVID-19,” the release says.
Sánchez had been held at Adams County Detention Center, a private prison under contract to ICE, since May, when U.S. Customs and Border patrol took him into custody near Del Rio, Texas.

Why should we pay for the medical care for someone who shouldn’t even be in this country in the first place?

My reaction? Take your race-baiting, migrant-blaming post and shove it up you fat pasty-white ass.
2,441 Americans died of COVID on that same day. Perhaps we should focus on getting that number down rather than winding up the MAGATs in preparation for midterms.

My reaction is that the USA should not have private prisons. It's typical congressional corruption that these are legal in USA.
Prisoners, including migrants in prisoners, have human rights included the right to lifesaving medical treatment, even the lowest of the low scum in prison have a human right to medical treatment. It's what makes a nation civilized.

This country doesn't even care if its citizens die from COVID much less migrants.

Sad all around. Poor guy died an untimely death in a very bad way while being detained.
Remember when the news used to have uplifting stories once in awhile.

It is clear he was not receiving HIV treatment in Venezuela. He probably had so few white blood cells by the time he swam across the Rio Grande, that even a common cold would have killed him.

Yeah it seems Venezuela stopped distributing treatment a few years ago. Which is truly desperate because UNAIDS provides treatment for pennies.
