I've never seen a movie with him in it and I want to start tonight! What should I watch?
Best Marlon Brando performance?

Not "Guys and Dolls."

Streetcar is Brandon’s most influential performance, On the Waterfront is probably his best, but The Godfather is one of the essential movies that everyone should have already seen before they start asking about what else they should watch.

r8 I agree

A Streetcar Named Desire - should have won the Oscar that year for it but lost out to sentimental favorite Humphrey Bogart for The African Queen.

On the Waterfront and Last Tango are his greater performances. The Godfather and Streetcar were hs greatest roles.

This one. Though according to Brando himself his greater performancee was in a movie called "Burn" from 1970.

"Burn" is an interesting movie, worth seeing. The Morricone score is fantastic. But Brando's role doesn't give him the same opportunities as his great, earlier parts, good as his performance is.

“The Men” is also worth watching. My personal picks are “a streetcar named desire”, “on the waterfront” and i must say I rather like “last tango in Paris” for the escapism. Also “apocalypse now” and “the godfather” of course.
Thanks for recommending “burn” that’s one I haven’t yet seen.

Most definitely in The Island of Dr. Moreau.

I love his sending the native American woman to the Oscars. The way she waves the statue away and Roger Moore looking so perplexed by it and then Raquel Welch coming out next and saying I hope this person doesn't have a cause! So bitchy.
this must have been back when award shows were actually interesting to watch.

Superman

He was great in The Men.

A Streetcar Named Desire. You get him and Vivien Leigh. A masterclass and masterpiece
The Godfather

The Island Of Dr. Moreau isn't just his worst performance, it's anyone's worst performance. As for real movies, he was pretty bad in Mutiny On The Bounty.

How many comedies did he make? The Freshman is the only one I've seen.

There was no such time. Awards shows are interesting only when you're a kid and dazzled by glamour.

Streetcar definitely.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 24, 2022 12:49 AM |
On the Waterfront.

The first time I saw Streetcar I ached for him. I didn't know movies could make me feel that.

I guess The Godfather. Otherwise I don’t really know what all the fuss is about. A Streetcar Named Desire just reinforces my disgust with humanity.

Karl Malden: why didn’t a man who wanted to marry Blanche turn on her because of something his anthropoid friend said? He should have punched Stanley and gotten Blanche out of there. Kim: Sex-mesmerized by earthy pig man, now bringing a baby into that sty. Marlon; never been able to figure that sex appeal. Guess’s I’m not “earthy” enough.

I actually kind of liked his performance in Reflections in a Golden Eye, for some reason.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 24, 2022 2:44 AM |
I even found him sexy in the men. He was really hot around that time.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 18, 2022 9:43 PM |
I thought he was sexiest in The Men (his first movie), which is saying a lot.

NONE

Reflections in a Golden Eye is also my favorite performance of his, followed by Last Tango in Paris.

I always go back to Streetcar mainly because he's so insanely hot in it but also because he's classic Brando. I think all of his natural appeal is showcased in that film. I read that Rita Moreno was in an intense relationship with him and all I kept thinking was what a lucky bitch she was although she also disclosed that he was abusive so that's that . These method actors are so intense.
