Is this the end???

O Your Majesty we love you get up

by Anonymousreply 1October 20, 2021 8:05 PM

Betty gets car sick now.

by Anonymousreply 2October 20, 2021 8:07 PM

She was also told to stop drinking booze and used a cane recently. She has a history of knee problems. But there could be congestive heart failure setting in. It’s good that she stays active.

by Anonymousreply 3October 20, 2021 8:09 PM
The decision comes just days after Elizabeth was seen using a walking stick at a major public event when attending a Westminster Abbey service marking the centenary of the Royal British Legion, an armed forces charity.

This could be serious.

by Anonymousreply 4October 20, 2021 8:09 PM

She didn't want to go and was looking for a graceful way out so she had her doctor write a note.

by Anonymousreply 5October 20, 2021 8:10 PM

No, she's not a millennial, R5. She goes to work and fulfills her duties.

by Anonymousreply 6October 20, 2021 8:11 PM

I don't want her to die. I know she will. I just don't want her to. She's always there.

by Anonymousreply 7October 20, 2021 8:12 PM

She's like... the sky. Or Glenn Close.

by Anonymousreply 8October 20, 2021 8:12 PM

Well, there goes the 70 year jubilee. I hope King Charles has the balls to take away the Sussex title and the HRH.

by Anonymousreply 9October 20, 2021 8:12 PM

Same here, R7. I'm not ready, and I'm not a typical Royal family fan. I only like the Queen. She's been there my whole life.

by Anonymousreply 10October 20, 2021 8:13 PM

She's got the big climate conference next week in Glasgow. She didn't need a trip to Northern Ireland.

by Anonymousreply 11October 20, 2021 8:13 PM

Her untimely pre-100-year-old death will be blamed on Meghan and Harry. And I don't think they will ever be able to set foot in the UK ever again, even to go to her funeral.

by Anonymousreply 12October 20, 2021 8:14 PM

Bye, bitch!

by Anonymousreply 13October 20, 2021 8:14 PM

Lay down baby, lay down!

by Anonymousreply 14October 20, 2021 8:14 PM

And judging form the photo, she's happy as a pig in shit about it.

by Anonymousreply 15October 20, 2021 8:16 PM

She looks very nice in that photo. Is it recent?

by Anonymousreply 16October 20, 2021 8:19 PM

yes it's this week, r16

by Anonymousreply 17October 20, 2021 8:20 PM

She became Queen when my mother was a fetus

by Anonymousreply 18October 20, 2021 8:20 PM

Harry was able to attend Phillips funeral without any issues. Royal watchers made it into a big. Of course most ignored the Andrew issue. But it was a funeral. Everyone is a pro at these in that family. Even Meghan won’t be an issue, it’s a funeral for a world leader. Just like at Phillip’s funeral everyone will be fine.

DL and racists will have a fit of rage but we know they are bottom barrel people.

by Anonymousreply 19October 20, 2021 8:20 PM

Nobody in this thread cares about the Queen only how it will effect Meghan and Harry. You're all a bunch of phonies

by Anonymousreply 20October 20, 2021 8:21 PM

Yesterday, r16.

She's blowing off Ireland to bet on the ponies.

by Anonymousreply 21October 20, 2021 8:22 PM

If I were her, I would never, ever trust anybody in Northern Ireland.

by Anonymousreply 22October 20, 2021 8:23 PM

She needs to live until May of 2024 in order to be longest reigning monarch in history.

by Anonymousreply 23October 20, 2021 8:25 PM
I don't want her to die. I know she will. I just don't want her to. She's always there.

Mary!

by Anonymousreply 24October 20, 2021 8:28 PM

R18 She became Queen when my grandmother was still in the womb.

by Anonymousreply 25October 20, 2021 8:28 PM

Even if I were half her age, I'd also "postpone" a trip to a war zone. Very sensible.

by Anonymousreply 26October 20, 2021 8:29 PM

She became queen when my great great grandmother was only a twinkle in her parent's eyes.

by Anonymousreply 27October 20, 2021 8:33 PM

God I hope this isn't the end. I am not even a monarchist but the Queen's death will hit me in the feels, I know it. I am hopeful that this is nothing more than the Queen's having to cut back on her workload due to age and nothing more serious. This has been a rough year for the Queen, Philip dying, Harry and Meghan's being brats, Andrew being the sick perv he is. It's a lot for a 95 year old to process.

by Anonymousreply 28October 20, 2021 8:33 PM

Is Markle okay? No one ever asks.

by Anonymousreply 29October 20, 2021 8:35 PM

The queen was also recently told to lay off the booze and end her evening martini ritual.

by Anonymousreply 30October 20, 2021 8:36 PM

Meghan and Harry are the queen's favourites. They speak most every day. Don't believe the rags.

by Anonymousreply 31October 20, 2021 8:36 PM

I'm not ready for this. This will hit my mom and my aunt who both love her too. I love a death-watch thread, but not for Liz!!

by Anonymousreply 32October 20, 2021 8:37 PM

Only 3 more years, Lillibet, and you can make it.

by Anonymousreply 33October 20, 2021 8:37 PM

R28 you left out Charles handing out CBEs like they were candy on Halloween.

by Anonymousreply 34October 20, 2021 8:38 PM

If she does go, then the only royal left worth caring about is Charlotte.

by Anonymousreply 35October 20, 2021 8:39 PM

They should end the monarchy after she goes, enough already.

by Anonymousreply 36October 20, 2021 8:45 PM

All this hitting is knocking me off balance!

by Anonymousreply 37October 20, 2021 8:46 PM

Are the people predicting the Queen’s death the same people who thought Bill Clinton was gonna die of sepsis?

by Anonymousreply 38October 20, 2021 8:48 PM

Bill Clinton gave the Queen sepsis?

by Anonymousreply 39October 20, 2021 8:51 PM

I don't feel like this is the end. Charles and William were performing normal duties today, there doesn't seem to be a sense of urgency in the press either. She also looked fine at the reception at Windsor last night. The Queen has been exceptionally busy the last two weeks and I think she's starting to realize she is just not physically capable of keeping up the pace. But the Queen is robust, I think she's probably still got a few years left in her yet.

by Anonymousreply 40October 20, 2021 8:53 PM

R35, I like Anne, too.

by Anonymousreply 41October 20, 2021 8:53 PM

OMG !!! A 95 year old woman was told to take it easy ! THE WORLD IS ENDING !

by Anonymousreply 42October 20, 2021 8:53 PM

I think she was drinking more than one martini per day (and so what, at this point). She's overweight and not tall. The extra weight does stress the joints and impede mobility.

by Anonymousreply 43October 20, 2021 8:57 PM

r40 Exactly. She is not ill she is 95 and needs to pace herself. Some are panicking too much.

Her mother who lived to nearly 102 reduced the number of her engagements in her nineties and she was more frail at 95 than the Queen is at 95.

by Anonymousreply 44October 20, 2021 8:57 PM

She doesn’t mind living without Philip, but can’t live without her martinis.

by Anonymousreply 45October 20, 2021 8:57 PM

by Anonymousreply 52October 20, 2021 9:08 PM

According to Darren McGrady (former chef for Liz and then for Diana), Liz has really plain and bland (unadventurous) tastes in food. Phillip was more sophisticated and adventurous. I'm guessing Liz likes bread, butter, gravy, etc.

by Anonymousreply 56October 20, 2021 9:09 PM

Poor old cow. The only person in England who's still going out to work in their 90s. Harry and Meghan wanted to escape that fate, and did, but Charles, William and Kate won't escape it.

Is it really work, though? Going out and shaking hands seems more like sightseeing to me.

It seems like her primary function is getting her picture taken… so maybe she’s more of a model. Just one that wears her own clothes and doesn’t have to strike strenuous poses.

by Anonymousreply 79October 20, 2021 11:15 PM

by Anonymousreply 80October 20, 2021 11:18 PM

R69, you ignorant twat.

She goes out domestically when asked by the government(s), meets obligations with the Commonwealth, or agrees to UK government requests to travel outside the realm and Commonwealth. She is uniquely effective in domestic government matters and her active support for her governments adds weight and influence. With foreign travel, she has been used strategically for good-will ventures, but also as a part of multi-prong initiatives on behalf of economic plans and policies and mutual international support.

But you know everything from what see on your MSN page or your link to twat.com, right?

by Anonymousreply 81October 20, 2021 11:26 PM

She's okay.

She just told them her mouth hurt from all the smiling. She was out of practice, you know, what with COVID, a stupid grandson, being widowed and all.

by Anonymousreply 82October 20, 2021 11:39 PM

Whoever does her diary needs sacking. Scheduling so many events, so close together is not a good idea for any 94 year old. Particularly given that's she's been in Edinburgh, Cardiff, London and was scheduled to go to Northern Ireland. That's way too much to put in her diary.

Something is afoot though. It was Anne that accompanied her to the Abbey, handing her, her walking stick for the first time. That says to me that there is family concern about The Queen. I wonder if she's had a fall at Windsor or Balmoral and the family have told her that she needs a stick now.

Something is afoot though.

by Anonymousreply 83October 20, 2021 11:39 PM

The Queen's cousin (and husband) died just a few months ago. Of course she is gonna pass soon.

by Anonymousreply 84October 20, 2021 11:41 PM

She's reported to have back pain or problems. I theorize the cane is a necessary consequence of that + generally overdoing it. She's been on a bit of a tear. She certainly sounded energetic in the video from the reception the night before.

My God, though - a cane... I just had a terrible thought. You don't suppose she's turning late life rug muncher?

by Anonymousreply 85October 20, 2021 11:43 PM

She's a woman, it would be weird if she didn't live longer than Philip(in years). Plus, her mother was 101 when she died.

by Anonymousreply 86October 20, 2021 11:45 PM

Pass what, R84?

Oh, you mean “die”.

by Anonymousreply 87October 20, 2021 11:46 PM
How does the queen get to Northern Ireland from England? There is a body of water separating the two countries unless there is an underwater tunnel connecting the two. Does she fly by plane or helicopter, or take a ferry?

by Anonymousreply 88October 20, 2021 11:51 PM

R57 I assumed that your post was clever satire. It has to be, right? Nobody is that stupid.

by Anonymousreply 89October 21, 2021 12:01 AM

R83 In fairness the Queen reviews and approves her own diary and she is a known workaholic. After 18 months in lockdown and dealing with all the family drama, she probably wants to be busy again and told her secretaries "full steam ahead."

I think her age is catching up to her. Prior to COVID, she was (as always) super busy, than all of a sudden her life stops and she's basically stuck at Windsor for over a year without the same amount of physical activity. I think that has slowed her down more than anything. It's like exercise, if you are forced to stop for a while, it's hard getting back into it, your body has to adapt again and at 95 her energy levels likely won't bounce back after a year of being more low key.

I think the walking stick is being used for when she is outdoors on uneven ground. She didn't use it at last night's reception at Windsor or any of the private audiences at Buckingham Palace on Monday.

That being said she is 95, and I mean at 95 a big sneeze or a difficult bowel movement can be dangerous.

by Anonymousreply 90October 21, 2021 12:08 AM

"take a ferry?"

No I have never been to Northern Ireland.

American here who visited Belfast back in the 2000s. After experiencing it, I fully understood why my great-grandparents got on that fucking boat to America and never returned. As bad as it was then, I could only imagine how much more of a shithole it must've been in the 1920s.

by Anonymousreply 93October 21, 2021 12:17 AM

R57 She took the ferry from Scotland to Northern Ireland then got the local bus to Belfast. All using her pensioner card for a cheap fare. How else would the Head of State cross the ocean between two countries?

by Anonymousreply 94October 21, 2021 12:18 AM

by Anonymousreply 96October 21, 2021 12:36 AM

I cracked jokes and don’t like her late in life pedo protection of Andrew, but I’ll miss the old bird. Netflix helped re-introduce her to a younger audience via The Crown. So when she goes people will actually care, unlike the eye rolls Phillips passing causes with the British media going into a tailspin as if this was 1997 and his name was Diana.

But I’ll be happy to see another coronation ceremony.

by Anonymousreply 97October 21, 2021 12:42 AM

I wouldn't be surprised if the Queen has another decade left in her.

by Anonymousreply 100October 21, 2021 1:23 AM
No More Martinis: The Queen Advised to Give Up Her Favorite Drink

Queen Elizabeth is known to enjoy a tipple but Her Majesty is giving up her daily alcoholic beverage at the advice of her doctors.

While she is in good physical health, the Queen, who has been seen using a cane in recent days including Thursday in Wales where she addressed the Welsh Parliament, has been advised to give up her evening martini as she prepares for one of the most important periods of her reign, Vanity Fair can report.

According to two sources close to the monarch, doctors have advised the Queen to forgo alcohol except for special occasions to ensure she is as healthy as possible for her busy autumn schedule and ahead of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations next June. “The Queen has been told to give up her evening drink which is usually a martini,” says a family friend. “It’s not really a big deal for her, she is not a big drinker but it seems a trifle unfair that at this stage in her life she’s having to give up one of very few pleasures.”

The Queen has gone through a difficult period following the death of her husband Prince Philip in April. In recent months, however, she has looked happy and full of energy and enthusiasm as she has carried out a string of engagements.

While she is rarely seen drinking in public, she apparently enjoys a drink most evenings. According to palace sources, her drink of choice is often a dry martini which also happens to be Prince Charles’s favorite as well.

At dinner, the Queen usually enjoys a glass of sweet wine and, according to her late cousin Margaret Rhodes, she’s been known to drink a glass of champagne before bed.

But now, Her Majesty will only imbibe water and soft drinks. “The alcohol has gone, her doctors want to make sure she is as fit and healthy as possible,” confirms a second source.

While it was once reported that the Queen consumed four alcoholic beverages a day, chef Darren McGrady, who cooked for her from 1982-1993 said though she ate four small meals a day (including afternoon tea and a piece of cake), she rarely drank at lunch and often enjoyed just a single small glass of sweet German wine with dinner.

Aside from her nightly dry martini, the Queen is a fan of Dubonnet and gin, which was the Queen Mother’s favorite drink. Last year Buckingham Palace released its own brand of gin, and the Queen allows sparkling wine to be produced from her vines at Windsor Great Park.

After spending most of 2020 and the early part of 2021 at Windsor Castle in lockdown, the Queen has now resumed in-person engagements and has been busy since returning from her extended summer break at Balmoral.

Palace aides have said that the Queen’s schedule will be busy up until Christmas and she’ll be dividing her time between Windsor and Buckingham Palace where she has resumed official engagements and investitures.

Next year, the Queen’s focus will be on her Platinum Jubilee celebrations which will involve a four-day Bank Holiday weekend with events including Trooping the Colour, a service of Thanksgiving, and the highlight of the celebrations—a pageant with 5,000 performers on The Mall in London. There will also be a live concert at Buckingham Palace, called the Platinum Party at the Palace and the Queen will also head to the Derby, at Epsom Downs. The Queen will be 96 at the time of the celebrations and is expected to travel around the UK to mark the occasion while her family undertakes a tour around the Commonwealth.

by Anonymousreply 115October 21, 2021 2:14 AM

I asked this before but never found out. Do Canadians get a paid day off work if the Queen dies? I get 10 paid days for bereavement leave but I think there's something about getting the day off to observe the Head of State's funeral.

by Anonymousreply 116October 21, 2021 2:17 AM

And her mother was a drunk with rotten teeth. Who lived past 100.

by Anonymousreply 117October 21, 2021 2:25 AM

R116 Plans are in place in Ottawa for when the Queen dies. At least up until the end of the Harper era, the plan was that the Queen's funeral would be a national "holiday," and the country would be in an official state of mourning from the day the Queen dies until 5 days after her funeral.

by Anonymousreply 118October 21, 2021 2:29 AM

She drinks soft drinks? Do you think Diet Coke is actually bad for her?

by Anonymousreply 119October 21, 2021 2:31 AM

I have a friend who feels things deeply.

He took personal days off from work when Michael Jackson died and also when Ted Kennedy died.

by Anonymousreply 120October 21, 2021 2:31 AM

Thanks, R118. It should be a national holiday, or an official period of mourning at least. Do you know if the day of her funeral would be a stat or are we entitled to take bereavement?

by Anonymousreply 121October 21, 2021 2:33 AM

She would want you to work a full day and have a stiff drink after you were off.

by Anonymousreply 122October 21, 2021 2:35 AM

Oh no, R122. I'll be taking the day off.

by Anonymousreply 123October 21, 2021 2:36 AM

R121 My understanding is that the funeral is supposed to be a stat holiday in Canada but I'm not in the loop about it anymore. I worked for Canadian Heritage back from 2009 to 2016 which the department responsible for plans for the Queen's funeral. Everything has basically been ready since the 90s, with the plans being updated every so often. I suspect if the Cons are in power when the Queen dies her funeral will be treated as a bigger deal than if Trudeau is still in office.

I think the idea of monarchy, like religion, has outstayed its welcome. But, by golly, this woman deserves our respect. She almost makes me believe she was appointed by God to reign. Her departure from the planet will be a very sad day for the world.

R124, hopefully Trudeau doesn't run off to Tofino on the day.

by Anonymousreply 128October 21, 2021 2:47 AM

Who gives a rusty fuck if she dies this year or 3 years on? She's very OLD. The elder elder elder gays of DL think of Lizbeth as their mommy. Although they are 80 years old themselves. And still drinking. And they hated their real mommy.

Betty Windsor can have a stroke anyday, or break a bone or develope dementia within a few weeks. Die of pneumonia or heart congestion. Happens everyday to people her age. The Crown can't protect her from the devil.

She does look good and alert. But that's it. Who the fuck cares? Mourn her when she's gone. Anticipatory grief is about your own sad selves. Ancient white gays with mommy issues.

This hubbub reminds me of when the Queen opened the London Olympics. Remember how fucking bored out of her mind she looked? I think she was even picking at her fingernails at one point. Everybody kind of attributed it to dementia, but given that she still kicking 9 years later, that obviously wasn't the case.

So what crawled up her ass that day?

She looks every minute of 95 years old. A cold is all it takes to take you out at that age. She's had a good long life. She's on borrowed time.

by Anonymousreply 151October 21, 2021 6:18 PM

Told you all that she had a doctor write a note to get her out of it!

by Anonymousreply 152October 21, 2021 6:36 PM

It's all very simple.

After Her Majesty heard the news stories of the Palace saying she was advised not to have her cocktails for a while, she locked herself in her room with a bottle gripped in each hand and a couple of cases on the floor by her bed.

by Anonymousreply 153October 21, 2021 6:50 PM

She wouldn't have spent the night in hospital unless it absolutely necessary. The leak coming from the Palace this morning was that the Queen had a cold because she had tested negative for COVID. However, if they had tested her with a PCR she have gotten a false negative if her symptoms were initially mild.

However, I think there is something more going on. Heart problem maybe? A fall? ..... but I'm starting to get a bad feeling.

by Anonymousreply 157October 21, 2021 10:19 PM

Oh fucking hell I hope the Queen is alright and there's nothing to worry about. I am NOT ready for this.

by Anonymousreply 158October 21, 2021 10:35 PM

It could be the regular flu. But if it's Covid, imagine the search for how she got it.? The truth of what is wrong will slowly come out. But, I agree, something is wrong.

by Anonymousreply 159October 21, 2021 10:35 PM

I'm officially worried.

by Anonymousreply 160October 21, 2021 10:40 PM

Remember many of you were speculating that Prince Phillip died before he was even close to the end, like 1-2 months off the mark? So I’m sure she is fine. When she does it will be sudden and in her bed like that old lady in Titanic.

by Anonymousreply 161October 21, 2021 10:42 PM

She’s doing better than my 96-year old bedridden grandmother!

by Anonymousreply 162October 21, 2021 10:43 PM

Does this mean she won't get to do a cameo on "Derry Girls?"

by Anonymousreply 163October 21, 2021 10:44 PM

Are you saying she's 1-2 months close to dying, r161?

by Anonymousreply 164October 21, 2021 10:45 PM

Two things that a concerning:

Why did the Palace wait so long to make an announcement she had stayed in hospital. Second the phrases they are using are eerily similar to those of Prince Philip in his final illness: "out of an abundance of caution," "in good spirits."

by Anonymousreply 165October 21, 2021 10:47 PM

Yeah I think she’s fine. But at her age, precautions are always prudent. My 91-year-old mother spent the night recently in the hospital for a stomach virus. It was all precautionary, but she was feeling a little weak. They found nothing serious—not even dehydration—but kept her overnight anyway.

by Anonymousreply 166October 21, 2021 10:48 PM

Did she send her love?

by Anonymousreply 167October 21, 2021 10:48 PM

I wonder what Prince Charles is feeling about all this? Does he make an awkward phone call?

by Anonymousreply 168October 21, 2021 10:59 PM

If the idiot ginger grandson can take paternity leave, the Queen can take a well deserved rest.

by Anonymousreply 169October 21, 2021 11:02 PM

My god, you people are naive. She obviously had an abortion.

by Anonymousreply 170October 21, 2021 11:09 PM

I think she has a cold and here's why.

First, there was a story going round in the British papers about the super cold that is on the move... people think it's COVID it's so nasty but they test negative. We have all been warned our immune systems won't be what they used to be after eighteen months of barely seeing anybody, so for a 95 year old nobody wants to see die, they're not going to take any chances. It would be easy given her schedule for someone to give her a cold.

Second, the reporting said (consistently) that she's now back at Windsor after "preliminary investigations." If I had an old person who nobody wants to see die, with respiratory symptoms, even mild ones and COVID floating about (though no doubt she's had her third) and the Super Cold, I'd be lining up chest imaging pretty damn quick to make sure there's no sign of pneumonia. If there wasn't, home she goes... safer from infection at Windsor Castle than in even the best hospital.

by Anonymousreply 171October 21, 2021 11:09 PM

Actually r170 it was vaginal rejuvenation surgery. She's a sexy widow now and she's on the prowl.

by Anonymousreply 173October 21, 2021 11:14 PM

Obviously the Queen is going through alcohol withdraw since they told her to cut out the nightly martini.

by Anonymousreply 174October 21, 2021 11:18 PM

I think she may of had a fall at home.

It was the way that Anne was with her to the church service, rather than a lady in waiting. It was the way that Anne handed her her walking stick that makes me think that it was a fall rather than a cold.

If you notice, Anne plonks it down firmly in front of The Queen, as if she's saying use it!

by Anonymousreply 189October 21, 2021 11:56 PM

Seems to me she may have balance issues o she may have had a mild stoke. It is possible. But if she has balance issues and has fallen, o if she has a weakness on one side due to a mild stroke, that would account for the "no more martinis" prescription along with the cane and bed rest. I bet they have a tiny little golf cart for her inside Buckingham Palace. Now if she has had some minor impairment, staying at Windsor might be easier for her.

It’s all so sudden and shocking! Who could’ve predicted this?

by Anonymousreply 198October 22, 2021 12:55 AM

R176 I am thinking she may have fell too. Also I think if she's experiencing loss of balance or coordination doctors are going to make to want sure she's not experiencing or have had a series of mild strokes. In fact, this would explain why she's been advised to stop drinking, because booze can elevate blood pressure.

by Anonymousreply 199October 22, 2021 12:55 AM

Being a worn out, dried up 90 y.o prune has its risks also.

by Anonymousreply 200October 22, 2021 12:58 AM

by Anonymousreply 201October 22, 2021 1:01 AM

by Anonymousreply 202October 22, 2021 1:02 AM

I would take to the hospital rather than meet Pete Buttgeiger too. As they say in the UK. YUK.

by Anonymousreply 203October 22, 2021 1:04 AM

My guess is minor fall, she insisted everything was okay and refused to acknowledge any initial pain, there is minor concern in her family about her walking without a cane, so Anne is recruited for the next public outing to lay down the law that she use a cane. A couple of days after the fall she starts to feel minor pain, she is sent to the hospital for an MRI to make there are no fractures, there are no fractures but she has bruised her hip or some other body part in the minor fall. She is told to rest a few days to let her body heal naturally. (Going through this right now with my Dad as a matter of fact.)

by Anonymousreply 204October 22, 2021 1:17 AM

I think she had a fall. I think she has balance issues. I think she went to the hospital to see if she had a stoke. I think she did have a mild stoke and she has a bit of weakness, thus the cane. Bed rest is about all they can do at her age. For all we know she may have to take a light regimen of PT as well. Stop dinking IMO is a sign of a vey mild stoke. Don't be surprised of she uses a walker or a wheel chair in a few months. At he age such things ae inevitable. But she is basically in sound health and physically fit. She walks, she is out in the fresh air, and until very recently, she even rides her horses. I'd say she will be around for a few more years, but on a much reduced schedule. I think Windsor suits her at this time. I'm betting less time at B'ham Palace, more at Windsor and Sandringham.

People accuse me of starting rumors, but I did not start this rumor, I am trying to stop it! I will be very sad if something happens to Great Grandma, and then Grandpa Charles will be King for a very short time. And then Daddy will be king. I've encouraged George to ask Daddy to take him up in the helicopter for a nice long ride...just to see how far they can go over the sea by Wales, with less than half a tank of fuel. How surprised they'll be! I'm a very patient young lady...

by Anonymousreply 244October 22, 2021 5:07 AM

If they suspect a minor stroke, then her doctors biggest concern is that it might be followed by a big one. They would also likely advice the Queen to not drink, not fly, and yeah lighten her workload. Frankly it's amazing she's made it to 95 working a full time job, but it's clear she needs to pace herself and I think step back from all but the big ceremonial set pieces.

by Anonymousreply 245October 22, 2021 5:08 AM

She was back working today, so maybe it wasn't all that serious.

by Anonymousreply 246October 22, 2021 5:09 AM

Momma always used to say the 3 best jobs in thr world are already taken. Bill Gates, the Pope, and the Queen. Can't wait to tell Momma there's going to be an opening soon...

Transitioning. Intends to end her reign as her authentic self, King Edward IX.

by Anonymousreply 249October 22, 2021 9:39 AM

Since the QM lived so long and this queen is very sprightly, I’d be shocked and saddened if she died now. Whereas any other 95 year old, I’d expect it.

by Anonymousreply 250October 22, 2021 11:04 AM

Sinn Fein made a big stink about her attendance to the 100 year anniversary of the Partition. I wouldn’t say she is faking an illness, but this does give her an out. It is telling that one of the working royals isn’t taking her place at the event. This was mainly done for her to save face.

by Anonymousreply 251October 22, 2021 11:42 AM

They should send George.

by Anonymousreply 252October 22, 2021 11:45 AM
Yes, this is what I was thinking. I'm sure there is an operatory where the Queen lives. Doctors would normally come to her. She's not like us normals, driving out to get shots, etc. Must've been something more serious.

Or.... it's the 95 Queen of the UK and how many other Commonwealth countries and [italic]nobody[/italic] wants to unsuccessfully answer 'why didn't you take her to London to have her checked out?'

She's 95, she overdid it. The night before this happened she was seen on tape, bright and energetic. While anything is possible the only history of stroke was Princess Margaret... who smoked beyond heavily all her life. George VI also smoked heavily and had circulatory issues. Neither the Times, the Telegraph nor the Daily Mail has anything even confirming a cold or repeating anything other than sent to be checked, back home by noon the next day, at work again on a modified schedule.

I assume since it was a blip it was kept quiet precisely to avoid an unnecessary deathwatch. If she's not up and running again on a more visible schedule by this time next week, I'd be surprised.

Stoppit!!! She's fine! She's fine and we're going over there today, because she loves Fergie and she agreed to sign the fucking papers, and everything will be FINE! I'm to have all of Sandringham in perpetuity, and there will be a HUGE Trust set up for me to draw from and to run the estate, and I will also have a private jet, and a yacht, and I'll never have to testify. NEVER. so fuck off. The best part is that it's set up so that Charles can not touch it. He cannot!

by Anonymousreply 258October 22, 2021 2:01 PM

People in their 90s can die overnight without any kind of slow decline.

by Anonymousreply 259October 22, 2021 2:03 PM

If she kicks off now, Andrew is done for. Charles will happily throw him to the wolves.

by Anonymousreply 260October 22, 2021 2:03 PM

Exactly, R259

by Anonymousreply 261October 22, 2021 2:10 PM

Yeah, I think more than a few people are dreading the ascendancy of Charles. BTW. Has anyone seen or heard from the Essex household? Sophie and Edward do a poor job of hiding their feelings. If things have reached a worrisome place, they will show it. Another one to watch is Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise. The Princess Royal needs to stay very healthy because she is the only sibling Charles is receptive to. She can steady him.

Many of the of the royal reporters on Twitter claiming BP lied and how can we trust them re: health updates about the Queen. Mary, calm the fuck down. Maybe the Queen and BP staff knew that if they had told the public she was in hospital, that those same reporters would have camped out in front of the hospital hoping to get a picture like they did with Philip. The woman is 95 and in the 70th year of a very productive reign. Just leave her alone. If she were dying, I think BP would be sending out more signals to prepare the public for it.

by Anonymousreply 267October 22, 2021 4:32 PM
If she were dying, I think BP would be sending out more signals to prepare the public for it.

There would be no signals until the morning following her death when a notice would be posted on the gates of BP.

She would have withdrawn from public life long beforehand if there was a terminal diagnosis. Charles would be running a full-fledged regency, if he is not already.

She will remain Queen until her death, and God love her for that!

R259 yes. My great Aunt was 100 and she got an infection and died seemingly in less than an hour. It was building up in her and wasn’t caught. For some reason with the Queen I think there may be some signs of heart failure. Hence her drinks being cut out. I hope not-she is like the world’s granny. The Palace lies and I doubt everything that comes out of them.

by Anonymousreply 270October 22, 2021 5:05 PM

It would be sad to see her have a long decline. The Queen Mother seemed pretty with it until the end, no?

by Anonymousreply 271October 22, 2021 5:06 PM

The Queen Mother was hidden away when the dementia smile became utterly transparent to everyone. It will be the same with Her Majesty. She'll still be Queen, but with carefully crafted photo releases.

by Anonymousreply 272October 22, 2021 6:25 PM

The Queen Mother was not hidden away, she was making public appearances right to the end.

by Anonymousreply 273October 22, 2021 6:27 PM

The Queen Mum was water logged from allof the Booze. Theycouldn’t cremate her or it would have set off a nuclear explosion.

by Anonymousreply 274October 22, 2021 6:35 PM

The Queen Mother's last public engagement was November 22, 2001. She died March 30, 2002.

So you're right, she was not exactly hidden away for too long a time.

by Anonymousreply 275October 22, 2021 6:35 PM
People in their 90s can die overnight without any kind of slow decline.

Gayle King asked (after Phillip died): "Was it natural causes?" People skewered Gayle, but I thought that was a legit question.

by Anonymousreply 276October 22, 2021 6:42 PM

R272 The Queen mother made her final public appearance four months before she died. She had clearly grown weaker in her final appearances but she did not have dementia. Over Christmas 2001, her energy began to wane and she was forced to use a wheelchair (which is why she refused to be seen in public even at Princess Margaret's funeral). Around the same time that Margaret died, she developed a chest infection and never recovered dying less than two months later.

R268 Yes, if she dies suddenly, e.g. in her sleep unexpectedly, will know in the morning. I think what R267 means, if the Queen is in a fatal decline, there would be deliberate leaks and signs coming the Palace alerting royal reporters that something serious was up basically trying to brace the country without actually saying the Queen is dying.

The Palace is always deliberatly vague with royal health matters, and reading between the lines is important. "Preliminary tests" suggests they don't know exactly what is wrong with her and there is going to be further tests. She stayed in hospital for "practical reasons" could be a sign that her blood pressure is too high or too low in which at 95 they are going to keep you for observation. It could also be that the Queen required an IV drip or something that was easier to administered if she remained in hospital. We'll see what happens, she is 95 and frankly a huge sneeze (or even big fart) can burst a blood vessel in old person.

by Anonymousreply 277October 22, 2021 7:00 PM

Margaret's funeral was Feb. 15, 2002. QM died six weeks later.

The UK Media is making a tempest in a tea cup. The Queen has the right to privacy. After 70 years on the throne, she has more than earned the right to go out on her own terms.

by Anonymousreply 279October 22, 2021 7:06 PM

Americans who call her "The Queen" or "Her Majesty", or who say "We love you", as if they were British or subjects of Queen Elizabeth II, are ridiculous. Pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 280October 22, 2021 7:11 PM

r280 As too are Americans that tolerate Meghan Markle swanning around NYC in an ersatz 'royal tour' all the while referring to herself as the Duchess of Sussex.

by Anonymousreply 281October 22, 2021 7:14 PM

One report said that by the time the tests were over it was too late for the Queen to go home. She is 90 not 4. Shit like that makes the Palace look uncreditable.

At least not within hearing distance of anyone.

by Anonymousreply 283October 22, 2021 7:24 PM

R284 She’s not my Majesty, my granny was Irish.

by Anonymousreply 286October 22, 2021 7:34 PM

R284 NO, she is know as Elizabeth II Queen of England. Only Americans with an inferiority complex dare to call her "The Queen" or "Her Majesty". You confuse a movie title with the protocol! In Europe she is called Queen Elizabeth II, because the other countries have a monarchy too or used to have one. She's not your Queen, you ignorant idiot.

by Anonymousreply 287October 22, 2021 7:41 PM

by Anonymousreply 288October 22, 2021 7:46 PM

by Anonymousreply 290October 22, 2021 7:46 PM

R288 That's cute. I like it!

by Anonymousreply 291October 22, 2021 7:47 PM

She's not OUR Queen, but we call her "The Queen" and always have. That's just shorthand for her official name, like we called Diana, Princess of Wales "Princess Diana." The other Royal houses of Europe are inconsequential in America, we have no interest in them.

by Anonymousreply 292October 22, 2021 7:48 PM

R289 Yep, I know but people keep calling her Queen of England in Europe even so she's the Queen of the UK and Commonwealth

by Anonymousreply 293October 22, 2021 7:49 PM

Dieu et mon droit" is the motto of England and of the British monarchy since Henry V (1413-1422). This motto is in French because it was the language of the rulers of the kingdom since William the Conqueror (words and expressions of French and Norman origin are also found in the English language).

Henry V spoke both French and English, yet the use of English by the elite flourished during his reign. Some mottos of English orders of chivalry are also in French, for example "Honni soit qui mal y pense" for the Order of the Garter.

American here, I use the Queen and Queen Elizabeth interchangeably. When I say THE Queen I'm not saying it to imply subservience to her, but rather that's just how people refer to her. It doesn't matter where you go in the English speaking world, you say the Queen and people know who you're talking about it. She the most famous woman on the planet and her title happens to be Queen.

by Anonymousreply 300October 22, 2021 8:08 PM

During Trump's horrendous presidency, I wondered what it would be like to have a constitutional monarch, somebody who could unite the country and whose influence could keep Trump's authoritarianism in check. One of the first things authoritarian dictators do is get rid of a monarch: the generals in Greece, Franco in Spain, Musssolini, Romania, etc.

by Anonymousreply 372October 26, 2021 3:59 PM

If she is working remotely something is up. It confirms my suspicion she may have had a minor stoke. She is probably on a strict regimen of rest, physical therapy, and a restrictive diet. It may also be that they have her on some new medication as well, and she is adjusting to it. Generally, IMO she is still under observation. If her speech is slightly slurred, or if she has some kind of mobility deficit, perhaps a weakness on one side, etc. they will be working on that. She is supposed to participate in the up coming G7 or G 20 or WTF ever, so we'll see. If they are showing her working remotely, it's possible they want us to prepare for her future participation remotely as well. Don't be shocked if the next time we see her out in public she's in a wheel chair. They may even show her walking and standing, then sitting in the chair. Now if she has Inner Ear difficulties, or balance issues related to that, then that would be another reason for all this.

What a load of rubbish you pontificate. - erm, prognosticate. The remote audiences have been well established for several months. If she's unwell, there is no crisis. Crisis comes from cover up. She overdid it, she's taking more rest, she's 95 in a country still riven with COVID. A happy medium is being found. Nothing is up.

by Anonymousreply 381October 26, 2021 5:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 382October 26, 2021 5:32 PM

Or she's prudently being kept apart from crowds of people who've been exposed to crowds of people.

In any event, if there's anything seriously wrong with her, to keep it quiet is unsustainable for much longer now.

by Anonymousreply 385October 26, 2021 5:56 PM

It was reassuring to see her working video link today, but yeah clearly something more serious going on. I don't think she's right at death's door, but this may be a final decline into poor health. From my own family experience, typically people who live to a ripe old age in good health, ultimately decline very quickly and unexpectedly.

by Anonymousreply 386October 26, 2021 6:12 PM
It was reassuring to see her working video link today, but yeah clearly something more serious going on.

Based on what? What is "clearly" going on? She's 95 years old and there's still a pandemic going on. The average age of deaths in the vaccinated was 85 in a recent study. So do you go to a crowded room full of people from all over the world or do you stay home because you're 95? It seems to me if your doctor(s) say take it easy, it is unlikely they'll say go to a convention.

What a bunch of alarmists.

by Anonymousreply 387October 26, 2021 6:20 PM

R387 While I agree there is a bit of pearl clutching going on (but this is DL after all) but the Queen likely doesn't give a fig about the pandemic. In 70 years, she has cancelled maybe a dozen times (and that's a liberal figure). She would not back out of an international event in which she was to be the host unless she is really unwell. That doesn't mean she's at death's door, but something is up.

by Anonymousreply 388October 26, 2021 6:26 PM

Right, but in most of those 70 years she hasn't been nearing 100 years of age. It is entirely possible she has a new appreciation for the idea of staying alive. And the precedent for being represented by others has been established for some years. Charles, Anne and William now do the bulk of the investitures, for example. I suggest your assumption of how she feels about the pandemic is fairly liberal and what's up is likely a preference to attend her jubilee next year and mark 70 years on the throne, rather than COP26 in Glasgow.

by Anonymousreply 389October 26, 2021 6:39 PM

I read that she had 10 events to go to in the next 18 days. Who is scheduling all of this for her? I know she's a workhorse and probably OK'd it all, but really, she's 95, what are they thinking?

by Anonymousreply 390October 26, 2021 7:10 PM

R390 clearly what she wants to do and what she is able to do are two different things.

by Anonymousreply 391October 26, 2021 7:21 PM

Betty needs to live another 943 days in order to become longest reigning monarch in world history.

by Anonymousreply 392October 26, 2021 8:32 PM

It’s not looking great because even if she lives a few more years this means at age 95 she’s too old to do her duties.

by Anonymousreply 393October 26, 2021 11:20 PM

R393 In fairness, the vast majority of the Queen's public engagements aren't actually things the monarch is constitutionally required to do.

The head of state duties are mostly limited to the Queen rubber stamping bills into law, signing off an appointments (e.g. ambassadors, military promotions, Clergy appointments), Summoning Parliament (she doesn't actually have to read the speech that's just a tradition), dismissing parliament and calling an election, and finally ensuring the country always has a Prime Minister.

All the of the Queen's public engagements (even state visits) are what the Palace likes to call Head of the Nation duties. Basically they are meant to ensure the monarchy remains visible and in contact with regular people. They are also designed to reinforce the Queen's position at the top of the country's governance structure by being the national representative when VIPs come to visit. But these duties are not required.

As long as the Queen is well mentally, she can continue functioning as monarch while having Charles and William carry the public side.

by Anonymousreply 394October 26, 2021 11:37 PM

She’s not going to pull a Pope Benedict. I think she will hold onto the crown until death, as Charles stews. We could see a very messy battle over whether she has a sound mind.

by Anonymousreply 395October 26, 2021 11:42 PM

That would weaken the monarchy. Plus she's all about duty. If she couldn't do it, she wouldn't. There is really no point in trying to Real Housewives the monarchy. That died with Diana and moved to Califorina with the Dims. It betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of the institution.

by Anonymousreply 396October 26, 2021 11:44 PM

She pulled out of the big climate change dinner. Looks like she's coming to an end at last. Only sorry to see her go because adulterer Charles is so ghastly.

by Anonymousreply 397October 26, 2021 11:47 PM

According to the Daily Mail it appears the Queen's doctors don't want her to travel 800 miles (round trip) from Windsor to Glasgow. It seems in the future the Queen's travel will likely be limited between Windsor and BP. Which begs the question, who the fuck chose Glasgow?

Also lets forget the idea of the Queen abdicating. She will remain Queen until she dies nothing else is going to happen. There is no legal mechanism in the UK for the monarch's reign to end but in death. If she were to abdicate, it would mean all 15 Commonwealth Realms would have to pass legislation and no way she'd want that because it will open a debate about the monarchy in those countries. Even if she is a drooling vegetable, she will still be Queen with Charles acting as regent.

by Anonymousreply 398October 26, 2021 11:48 PM

She might not even make it to her Jubilee

by Anonymousreply 399October 27, 2021 1:12 AM

For heavens sake what a bunch of hyperbolic drama queens here. She pulled out of a couple of engagements, one hundreds of miles away, days after being discharged from hospital at age 95. And you're predicting her demise in a few days!

She seemed absolutely fine in the remote zoom thing she did the other day. No missed step, no drop in lucidity. She's not going anywhere.

by Anonymousreply 400October 27, 2021 1:57 AM

Andrew looks like he's well into his 70s.

by Anonymousreply 423October 27, 2021 4:27 PM

So strategy: if he settles before the Jubilee, ostensibly to reach a nondisclosure agreement between both parties, shut it down and prevent it from hanging over the jubilee, would it work? I don't know what he did or didn't do. I do think he's an asshole. I also think even if he's not present at the events his ghost will be, so maybe the best thing to do is to buy this woman off and shut it down. I still don't think he can go to anything public but at least it's a bucket of water on it, hopefully embers fading to cold rather than smouldering toward fire. Any hope of minimizing the stain on the jubilee? I do feel sorry for her with that mess part of the celebrations.

by Anonymousreply 424October 27, 2021 4:31 PM

Or r424 they can evict him from his little palace on Windsor grounds and strip him of his allowance. Andrew can move into some government flat for all we care. But remove his royal lifestyle with staff, cars, titles, the works.

by Anonymousreply 425October 27, 2021 6:19 PM

r418 Her mother looked MUCH MUCH MORE frail at 95 than the Queen does and she lived to nearly 102.

by Anonymousreply 426October 27, 2021 7:34 PM

by Anonymousreply 431October 27, 2021 10:44 PM

With all her money, doesn't she have the equivalent of a hospital room somewhere in her castle? You would think they would at least have the ability to provide EMT services right there on her own property, if she had an emergency situation, rather than taking the time to cart her off to some hospital.

by Anonymousreply 432October 27, 2021 10:49 PM

R432 That would imply a lack of faith in the NHS, of which the British are rightfully proud.

by Anonymousreply 434October 28, 2021 12:32 AM

It’s long been said this woman crams Crown Jewels up her fetid, practically decomposing gash in case she has to make a run for it, like other royals used to sew gemstones into the seams of their clothing.

These may well have caused a blockage.

by Anonymousreply 436October 28, 2021 1:00 AM

by Anonymousreply 437October 28, 2021 1:00 AM

I know she won't abdicate. But is a regency really out of the question? She can stay at Windsor racking up enough years on the throne to beat Louis XIV ,and Charles can get on with whatever changes he wants to make to the institution before his terrible circulation finishes him off.

by Anonymousreply 438October 28, 2021 1:11 AM

Why does Charles have such bad circulation? He's never smoked and he's had a very healthy diet for decades.

by Anonymousreply 439October 28, 2021 1:15 AM

What Charles claims to do and what Charles actually does have often been very different things.

by Anonymousreply 440October 28, 2021 1:16 AM

If I were in charge of BP, I'd make sure they had the paddles for a heart attack, and an X-ray machine and the EKG machine. They would have the capabilities to do an IV, and some basic stitching and maybe set a broken arm. And Oxygen. Basic stuff. But if you needed an MRI or a CT Scan or any other stuff you'd have to go to the hospital. And suppose they find a brain aneurysm. They run a test and all of a sudden someone requires surgery. So going to the hospital makes sense. This is 2021, so they won't be doing major surgery at the Palace. Plus they would want to make sure to show their trust in their nation's health services.

by Anonymousreply 441October 28, 2021 1:27 AM

If she had a minor stroke or seemed on the verge of one, then her doctors wouldn't want her flying, which would rule out a quick trip to Glasgow.

by Anonymousreply 442October 28, 2021 2:38 AM

There is no monarchy past Charles & Camilla. As it should be. The queen is on par with Betty White. Beloved for no particular reason but a pleasant countenance and longevity. The world don't give a rusty fuck about "royals." Fuck em.

by Anonymousreply 447October 28, 2021 3:06 AM

r443 It'll survive. If only on the basis we hate politicians far more than we do the royals. What I do think goes out with Elizabeth is that remains of the divine right of kings. No one questions Elizabeth riding in a gold coach or the occasional institutional financial irregularity because she's a link to an ancient past. Its going to be a much slimmed down simpler monarchy after she kicks the golden bucket.

by Anonymousreply 448October 28, 2021 3:09 AM

At this point idea of the crushingly mediocre Prince Charles and Camilla riding in a golden coach inspires one to say good riddance forever to the monarchy. Instead of a coronation costing millions upon millions of dollars they could just have a small gathering with crowns and scepters handed out as party favors. The money saved could be used to build non flammable affordable housing.

So Louis XIV was 4 years old when his father the king died. So technically king but obviously not doing much besides learning to read and write. He was almost 77 years old when he died.

Next longest reign, the king of Thailand was a young adult at the time his elder brother mysteriously died. But the last decade of his life was spent in seclusion, mostly in a hospital. He was 88 years old when he died and had been in very poor health all that time.

So the queen at 95 and until this week, quite active and healthy, really should be at the top of the longest reigning monarch page.

My Auntie is in her 70's and she loves the Queen and so do a lot of other Black women I know. Yes, they are over 60, but they are fond of her. They don't think about colonialism, and all that stuff. They just like her, Elizabeth, as a person, and the sort of love the fact that her family is so fucked up. ya know?

by Anonymousreply 480October 29, 2021 3:29 AM

*liking* the queen has nothing to do with colour or colonialism. But wanting it to end with her does have to do with lots of people over 70 years old, R480. The monarchy should die with the Queen and I suspect she would (secretly) agree. Look what's coming? Yes, shit and peodophiles and tampons and divorces and beheadings and greed and war and rape and dowdiness and denial is all part of the British Monarchy. That's life.

I bet the queen knows that they have no right to anything anymore and what's to follow her are all shitty examples of overpaid underbred fake ass specialties. It's an antiquated life. She lived it. Time's UP. Her best trait is that she doesn't seem deluded in the last half of life. That's rare in old people.

The old lady *MEN* prisspot queens on this thread are Ancient White American FAGs with lisping affections. Permanently deluded. They slobber over their lost mommy. The one who disapproved.

Many UK subjects have affection for Elizabeth. But they're not starry eyed about the monarchy. Jesus Christ - Stop paying these people billions to be dumb and ugly. And those jewels are hideous.

by Anonymousreply 481October 29, 2021 3:51 AM

R481 Support to abolish the monarchy in the UK has been steady at only about 30 to 35% over for the last forty years, with popular support around 65-70% in favour of keeping it after the Queen dies since the Golden Jubilee in 2002. Additionally the only group in the UK that has majority support (very narrow) for becoming a republic are 18 to 21 year olds (48% against to 46% supporting monarchy). Yes monarchy has stronger support amongst older people but even the 22-34 age bracket support is about 58% supporting monarchy as of June 2021.

by Anonymousreply 482October 29, 2021 4:00 AM

And when you think about it, 40 years ago, today's 55-64 year old monarchy supporters would have been in part the 18 - 21 year old republicans.

It's easy for radicals and outsiders to dismiss the monarchy, but it is part of the nation's history, part of its character... that isn't as easily dismissed as the scorn that claims so.

by Anonymousreply 483October 29, 2021 4:07 AM

I am 44. I was a rapid republican at Uni. I am now indifferent and probably lean towards the status quo than abolishing it. After Brexit, I have zero faith in our politicians ability to try and come up with a new form of government.

by Anonymousreply 484October 29, 2021 4:09 AM

We're rabid everythings at uni. Even Churchill said “If you are not a liberal at twenty, you have no heart. If you are not a conservative at forty, you have no brain." I'm not quite sure time moves you right anymore, as more toward the centre, the best bits of the status quo, and anything that prevents any more shouting. I could deal with the disillusionment that politics produces, but I am so weary of the permanent anger.

by Anonymousreply 485October 29, 2021 4:12 AM

r481 is a sad excuse for a person. What a loser.

The Monarchy will continue to go on, it has its place in society.

by Anonymousreply 486October 29, 2021 4:19 AM

OP- You are NOT well informed. The Queen cancelled her planned trip to Northern Ireland because the satchel of sex toys she ordered on Amazon arrived and she wants to try them on for size ( as it were) now that she no longer has the Prince to make love to.

by Anonymousreply 487October 29, 2021 4:22 AM

The monarchy should end on a high note and that would be the Queen. After her death does anyone want Charles as king a man who in civilian life couldn't make it as a manager at Target? A man who spends his life flying around the world with his personal furniture? A man whose sex talk would embarrass Larry Flynt because he has the sexual maturity of a 13 year old boy? A man whose constant drinking has made him look like a beet red overstuffed sausage? If he were a neighbor I would avoid him like the plague but if I did manage unfortunately to bump into him I would be kind.
What if the Queen dies and then Betty White dies the next day? Would DL explode?

No one will pay much attention, to be honest. Even here.

When the queen dies, anyone else who dies that day or even that week will be relegated to page 2 of the newspapers. It is all we will hear about for a good long while. Thanks to her age, her prestige, her reputation, and her position as the head of the entire Commonwealth of Nations, she really is the most famous person on the planet--more than Biden, Trump, Putin, Kanye, Taylor Swift, Adele, or the Pope.

Should your scenario happen, people will post things like, "Shit! Betty White also died today!"

by Anonymousreply 496October 29, 2021 6:09 AM

The Royal family is of little concern to the rest of the world. We love Harry and Meghan of course. The queen is cute but never forgiven for how she treated Diana. Charles is a grotesque. William and Kate are the fake monarchs in waiting. Nice family that should get out of the business. He will never be King of anywhere. Queen Elizabeth defends her rapist son. She's too old to understand the things that people do. It's an antiquated system. Surviving Angel is the second most dull poster on DL. Don't matter what the population favors. When Liz is dead - within 3 to 9 months from now is my guess - the desire for the monarchy to continue will take a huge drop. No one wants Charles. We've seen The Crown. We can see his face and Camilla is an old broken whore. Don't they have bra fitters in England. She doesn't have to look quite so much like an old cumdump. The queen is sloppy too but she's a hunchback. That she is mentally slowing is not a surprise. Let the old woman watch TV and eat sweets. She's not there to fulfill your destiny. The monarchy is over within the next 10 years. King Charles and his escort will do nothing right. The END.

by Anonymousreply 502October 29, 2021 6:59 AM

That’s delightful that you’ve seen The Crown, R497.

You do know, don’t you, that it’s fiction, not a documentary?

by Anonymousreply 503October 29, 2021 7:04 AM

Harry and Meghan are wildly popular and attractive and accessible. They abused no one. They had to stand their ground. The queen is neither nice or foul. But she represents a fragile and corrupt institution She's just an old lady who's been doing the same thing everyday for 70 years. Nothing of importance. Ever. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 504October 29, 2021 7:10 AM

God what a nutter r504 is.

by Anonymousreply 505October 29, 2021 7:16 AM

r504 Stand their ground for more money and titles from a so called corrupt institution? Yeah that makes sense and is totally consistent morally. You are forgetting that they originally asked in January 2020 to be half in half out. They are trying to airbrush that out to make their leaving look like a story of principle and victimhood. They wouldn't be peeved over and clinging to titles if they were taking a genuine moral stand.

They even said in the Oprah interview that they would consider returning if they were given more titles for their kids, more money and paid for security. That told all intelligent thinking people that they were greedy liars having a tantrum.

by Anonymousreply 506October 29, 2021 7:26 AM

R504 makes reasonable and valid points. The queen is nothing in the world of accomplishment or leadership. We know nothing of her intelligence or opinion. She's failed more often than succeeded. Her work is the world's best paid PR position.

Harry and Meghan are loved for their modern life and style. Iconoclastic choices. They had a misstep, but only with branding. No one hates an old hunched over moldy castle widow, Lizzy will be mourned for whatever it is she did. But mostly for being old and looking it. She's never been outside her property. She just owns half the fucking country. The world LOVES Harry and Meg. They've ventured forth and dare to look like people. What great monarchs they would make!

At least they are free of that elitist anachronism. So are William and Kate. He will never be KING. How stupid for her to dress to be a skinny 55 year old queen from the time she was 25?!? The world and the YUK is done with all that. We must be. William will be trading in Kate soon after the news drops.

by Anonymousreply 507October 29, 2021 7:31 AM

r504 and r507 are the same troll, talking to himself once again.

by Anonymousreply 508October 29, 2021 7:43 AM

R507 come on, Harry and Meghan aren’t loved by anyone but Harry and Meghan.

by Anonymousreply 509October 29, 2021 8:10 AM

I have to say outside of DL I never talk about or really think about Harry and Meghan. They're just not that interesting as celebrities go. California has many, many more interesting, more intelligent and more attractive people.

I have developed a soft spot for the Queen in recent years--she's been doing her job for so damn long. *She* believes in it. Also, the history of the monarchy in Great Britain is just fun. The institution doesn't make all that much sense to me as an American, but it doesn't have to. It's not meant for me.

I suspect she hasn't been able to get them during the pandemic. I get people don't like her, but I actually think she looks good for someone in her mid-70s who smoked like a chimney most her life.

by Anonymousreply 514October 29, 2021 4:35 PM

R510 I am an American living in the UK (been here 11 years) and I have to say I've developed a reluctant soft spot for the monarchy. I think when you're on the outside looking in, it looks ridiculously archaic but then I have to remind myself that it's a cultural difference. In the US, our whole narrative is based on rejecting the Crown (although Americans really have just replaced royals with Hollywood celebrities and reality stars) while the UK is based on the Royals being the center of national life. I will say that it's much more obvious to me now that the American President really is an elected Monarch with powers and prerogatives similar to what George III's. The monarchy does have an interesting purpose, one I would argue is actually more relevant now, which is to remind people there is more to national life than just politics. Everything in the US is political in a way it's not in the UK, now that's not just because of the monarchy, but there is something to be said about having a head of state who is not political, who has been there (whether on the throne or part of the family) their whole life. It's that emotional connection to the royals that I think is the biggest obstacle for those who want to abolish the monarchy. Also the British gays love the monarchy (even if the pretend not to) because of the theatre of it all.

A story from a column in The Telegraph. She plays a meaningful part very well.

"She knows how her presence can petrify people, so much that they cannot speak – or can’t stop talking. She frequently uses the corgis to break the ice, to put people at ease and occasionally as instinctive therapy. Just ask David Nott, the surgeon who, suffering from PTSD after many tours in Aleppo and Gaza, found himself in that same situation at a private lunch at Buckingham Palace. When the Queen turned to talk to him, he suddenly could not speak, his eyes filling with tears, his lip trembling. She looked at him, called her dogs, took a dog biscuit from a tin, broke it in half and gave one to him. Together they petted and fed the dogs. “There,” she said, “that’s so much better than talking, isn’t it?"

by Anonymousreply 520October 29, 2021 6:22 PM

Whatever is going on... and it's probably next to nothing though nothing is quite as next to nothing in a 95 year old... in any event, it's now enough... they need a disclosure of some sort of some specificity. Even if it's to buy some more time.

My money is still on a cold or respiratory infection of some description, which can be exhausting, which you don't want turning into pneumonia, and which would explain the determination to keep her apart from crowds. She did 19 engagements in October and was in hospital overnight a week ago, October 20/21. That would be an engagement a day based on the calendar days so you know she doesn't work weekends so that's more than one a day on some days. That's a lot for a 95 year old.

The Palace sends smoke signals. They would neither want to inflame media or distract from the solemnity of the Remembrance Sunday ceremony by saying she is determined to go and then having her not go. While she could not go in the end, I can't believe they'd say it if it seemed likely she would not go.

But she's 95 and the media's now on death watch so this opaque commentary is making things worse instead of better. They're gonna have to say something more than rest.

by Anonymousreply 523October 29, 2021 8:05 PM

I wonder if Charles is practicing at home right now for his coronation by putting heavy things on his head and trying to walk with them.

by Anonymousreply 524October 29, 2021 8:15 PM

The latest bulletin does seem a bit ominous given her age and the fact that she just lost a husband of 73 years. She's made a valiant try at not going into grief'stricken seclusion and getting on with the job.

But hell she's ninety-five years old. And the fucking Harkled added to her stress and burdens at the worst possible time.

It would be interesting if she passed before the Platinum Jubilee got off the ground. Anyone taking wagers on whether Meghan will be allowed at the funeral?

William would be looking at the Wales title and the Duchy's revenues and a hugely increased level of family influence, as everyone will be looking over Charles' shoulder at the erstwhile Cambridges, now Princw and Princess of Wales.

Sand just as the Queen dies, Harry will bring out his nasty memoir.

Everyone will be soooooo sympathetic to him, dontcha know.

by Anonymousreply 525October 29, 2021 8:20 PM

Harry and his publishing company really do need to be careful with the book's timing. I'm sure Elizabeth will be depicted as nothing but a loving gran. But anything that remotely resembles an attack on members of the family is going to be horribly distressing to her. Multiply Oprah interview consternation by a factor of a 100. When is the release time, pre or post Jubilee? Having said that, I'm sure she's not thrilled about Tom Bower's book either.

by Anonymousreply 526October 29, 2021 8:41 PM
Anyone taking wagers on whether Meghan will be allowed at the funeral?

I think the question is will she come?

She has some idea of where she stands. She is brazen, yet cowardly. She will weigh up the likelihood she will be booed in public. Which I put at 50 50.

by Anonymousreply 527October 29, 2021 9:02 PM

by Anonymousreply 528October 29, 2021 9:38 PM

Two weeks? Come on. This is approaching the very end for the Queen. I've seen for myself what happens to the elderly after a fall or a major health issue. by Anonymousreply 535October 30, 2021 3:34 AM

Harry loves his grandmother and Meghan has shown great respect for the monarchy. But she has been shite upon by the racists in the Royal Family and their racist minions. She also has two very small and vulnerable children. Naturally she will stay in California and Harry will attend the queen's grand funeral.

No one will keep him away. He is far more beloved than his bald, cheating brother. Harry is Diana's child. The most beloved royal of all time.

by Anonymousreply 536October 30, 2021 3:40 AM

If Harry really cared about his grandmother, he'd be visiting her in England right now, with his children.

by Anonymousreply 537October 30, 2021 7:11 AM

And the Queen would say, 'What in bloody hell are you doing here? Are you expecting me to croak? Bugger off!'

by Anonymousreply 538October 30, 2021 7:15 AM

The Queen and Hay and Meghan chat regularly. And she is fond of Harry. And she wants to see the babies. WTF is so complicated. If she feels that she is coming to the end of the road and that could be any time, she would want to see them. And how many more Christmases do you think she'll be around for. She wants reconciliation for Harry & Meghan, with Charles, Anne and William especially, but also with the rest of them. The Sussexes ae close to Eugenie and Bea and so is the Queen. You can either accept the narrative constructed for you by the Daily Mail and the Sun, etc. Or you can simply let things play out. People like Fergie and a lot of other bottom feeders out here are regularly selling their version of events to the media and always enjoy shit stirring. Hay was an asshole to air out his "feels" like he did. Meghan has only his version of events to react to and he is her husband so I place more responsibility on him. But I'm not cutting Charles any slack because he can be a petty, selfish prig. So having said all that, they need to get their shit together and stop fucking around.

by Anonymousreply 539October 30, 2021 1:22 PM
You can either accept the narrative constructed for you by the Daily Mail and the Sun, etc.

Or we can just accept yours?

Nothing since Panorama has created as much threat to the monarchy as the behaviour of those two. And while you seem to have a pretty Hallmark version of the Queen, you forget she was the one who ordered the HRHs taken. She is two people, obviously, Queen and head of the family. But the woman who has sacrificed her life for the part that's Queen is tough. When she looks at William and his conduct, how much weeping do you suppose she actually does for Harry? Give your head a shake. There's no group hug coming.

by Anonymousreply 540October 30, 2021 3:10 PM

R539 When H&M's daughter was born it was claimed by "sources very close to the couple" that baby Lily had been introduced to the Queen and other members of royal family via Zoom and that the Queen was thrilled by the name....then the Palace shat all over this by letting the BBC know that in fact no, H&M had not spoken to any member of the royal family nor had the Queen been advised about the use of her nickname. It was unprecedented for the Royal Household to officially deny a story like this via the BBC. There's zero chance that would have happened without the Queen's approval...she is having none of Harry's bull and they don't talk. Let's not forget this is same "favourite grandson" who went on TV and trashed his family knowing his grandfather was in hospital dying. It's also telling that neither the Queen or Charles allegedly saw Harry after the funeral. It's also believed no royals are in contact with H&M because they don't want their private conversations leaked to the US press.

by Anonymousreply 541October 30, 2021 3:49 PM

R539 the only thing the Harkles have got to sell is dirt on the royal family. Nobody's interested in anything else about them.

by Anonymousreply 542October 30, 2021 4:10 PM
The Queen and Hay and Meghan chat regularly. And she is fond of Harry. And she wants to see the babies

If she's told you this, R539, don't hold back. What else has she said?

by Anonymousreply 543October 30, 2021 4:10 PM

It's possible she contracted one of those UTIs so common amongst very old women, especially. These tend to go undetected for longer than usual. She would have been put on a ten-day course of powerful antibiotics. It could just as easily be that as something more ominous.

Just the same, it's stating the obvious. She's not only 95, she also lost the central emotional anchoring of her life when Philip died. The other spouse in these partnerships often decline soon after one goes. And the vicious lying self-serving attacks by her grandson and his bitch of a wife during the year when she had to know Philip wasn't long for this world probably did take an additional toll on what were left of her emotional resources.

We really can't know.

SA as I've warned before, do not hold your breath on those title removals. If she's weakened, this is one last battle she doesn't have the energy for.

That leaves Charles facing opening his reign with a firestorm with racist accusations, or doing nothing and letting the Sussexes enjoy their titles whilst keeping them away from the monarchy in every other respect.

The best you can hope for is a pointed amendment to the 1917 Titles Act that going forward ensures that the children of Spares are out of the running for HRHs.

He won't take his son's HRH or deprive his mixed race grandchildren of them. The latter, especially, will only hand the Harkles a weapon to support their claim that the BRF hated Meghan because she's "black".

Or, her version, "Occasionally Black".

by Anonymousreply 544October 30, 2021 4:14 PM

There's no way the Queen or anybody else in the family except maybe Fergie's sneaky daughter, is speaking to Harry: anything said will be repeated and distorted "as told to Gayle King". They ain't stupid. Leaking private conversations to Oprah's paramour was probably even worse than the Oprah interview. Harry and Meghan appear to be morons.

by Anonymousreply 545October 30, 2021 4:17 PM

The UTI theory makes sense, but would be easy to diagnose without hospital. Since she seems to bright when you do see her, suggests to me the hospital trip was for imaging, to rule in or rule out, but not because something was acutely or critically wrong. I had been arguing it was a cold but read today her remarks to COP are normal voice, no signs of a cold.

by Anonymousreply 546October 30, 2021 4:21 PM

It’s interesting nothing really leaks from BP.

by Anonymousreply 547October 30, 2021 4:33 PM

The only reason Harry and Meghan are playing nice with the Queen publicly is because they know if they trashed her, it would destroy their brand once and for all. If they for a second thought they could make money off of trashing her or increase their (waning) popularity through it, they would in a heart beat. There's also rumour that Harry is planning a book that won't be released until after she dies .............

Funny enough Lady C (who is a far wing nut and who is really just grifter, but I find her entertaining) also suggested it's a UTI.

by Anonymousreply 548October 30, 2021 5:11 PM

UTI is actually a very real possibility. In a 95 year old, there would be real concerns about it spreading into sepsis and so she would be advised to rest until the infection is cleared. In elderly person, that can take weeks.

FFS r551 she's not that frail, she's enjoyed robust health all throughout her 90s, this is actually the first major health strain she's ever really experienced. She's the Queen so they are using an over-abundance of caution, can't blame them whatsoever for that.

Barring an unexpected, major series of negative health issues (major stroke, cancer, a brutally bad fall or riding accident) she will be here next year for her Jubilee. Elderly for sure, but present as hell.

An infection does seem like a real possibility, though it doesn't explain Anne pushing the cane, though maybe if she was tired out, so her balance was a concern.

Honestly, she doesn't look like she's doing the final fade yet. She's old, but her complexion looks good, she doesn't have that grey look or the weight loss you see with people who are basically dying of old age.

I don't pretend to know anything about the inner workings of the royal family, but I do know publicly trashing a family while one of them is in the hospital dying is the sort of thing that leaves bad feelings that don't disappear overnight. Add that to the gossiping about what people said to you in private, well . . . it's just not going to go over well.
R534 If Harry doesn't return to London when the time comes, it will be a PR disaster from which he'll never recover.

Why on earth WOULDN’T he go?
she also lost the central emotional anchoring of her life when Philip died.

The queen is literally [italic]dying for dick.

Maybe she's still getting dick from one of her valets.

by Anonymousreply 560October 31, 2021 3:27 AM

Is there a pay grade high enough for that?

by Anonymousreply 561October 31, 2021 3:30 AM

We really need QE2 to live for another 10 to 15 years therefore probably sparing us King Charles.

by Anonymousreply 562October 31, 2021 4:42 AM

Whoever came up with the bullshit that H was the favoured grandchild anyway? Was that all part of his "hero Harry" bollocks? or the upper middle class cows like Katie Nichol and her ilk that hated Kate because " it should've been me" and were dying to get into H's sweaty grundies as the next best option. Many media types did, Caroline Flack and Natalie Pinkham for starters. Look out for 40ish female journos with a vitriol for Kate .

R563 The Queen does seem to favor her grandkids who struggled a bit more, either with rulebreaking or failure to launch—Harry and Beatrice. I wonder if they remind her of Margaret somehow? Or it’s just a squeaky wheel gets the grease?

by Anonymousreply 567October 31, 2021 2:31 PM

I've read that the Queen is closest to Peter Phillips, her eldest grandchild. The general consensus seems to be that she and Philip were both excellent grandparents to all eight of them, despite having been pretty poor parents.

I think this is going to backfire on Andrew. VG may have a sleezy past, but she was also sex trafficked as a minor.

Quite impressive!

So the Daily Mail has photos of her driving herself around Windsor.

She can't be too sick.

by Anonymousreply 575November 1, 2021 12:28 PM

Those pictures were taken about two or three months ago. Not recent.

by Anonymousreply 576November 1, 2021 1:08 PM

Supposedly, this is the Queen driving at Windsor today.

Gurl, you can talk about the lush hair, but I prefer that last picture. William's crotch.

R578 This likely eliminates the "mini-stroke" theory. If she had general weakness that often follows a small stroke, no way her doctors would let her behind the wheel. I'm thinking the UTI theory might be the most likely now.

It really is sickening the waste of these people and then their oh so serious concern for climate change. You don't give a shit why should anyone else?

Bring it up to them and they get very nasty.

by Anonymousreply 590November 1, 2021 5:02 PM

You've spoken to them recently, R590?

by Anonymousreply 591November 1, 2021 5:05 PM

From The Times: "It is not known where she was going, but she was alone in the car and was driving with characteristic confidence, splashing through the deep puddles on the road. As one of the photographers who saw her put it: “She does not drive like a little old lady — she drives quite fast.”

The spot where she was seen is one often frequented by photographers. One said: “If she did not want to be photographed, she would not have driven there.”

by Anonymousreply 592November 1, 2021 5:46 PM
