WHET Sam Worthington?
I was in love with him after seeing Avatar (12 times) back in 2009. I learned who he was before Avatar, because I watched Terminator Salvation, and I found him so hot, masculine and macho (that’s why Cameron cast him in Avatar, btw) but then I watched Avatar after it came out and fell in love.
When Clash of the Titans came out me and my friend rushed out to see it. Same with Wrath of the Titans. He was awesome.
He then starred in Man on a Ledge and a few others and then you stopped hearing about him. He was supposed to be the next big thing but it faded.
Sad.
Clash of the Titans was a box office hit, and despite being a critical bomb, Terminator Salvation did fine at the box office.
Wish he would have a comeback but I guess if we ever get the Avatar sequel that will be it.

Oh I remember that once Cameron casted him in Avatar he started getting a shit ton of scripts from Hollywood. He hadn’t even began filming but because James Cameron cast him as his LEAD to his new massive project Hollywood wanted him in parts. That’s how he got the lead role in Salvation. He was an unknown in the states but because Cameron cast him he was offered the part and was able to film it before Avatar.
After that he was signed onto Clash of the Titans and a few projects, including This Is War opposite Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine. He ended up dropping out of that movie to do something else and the part went to Tom Hardy instead.

I saw him in Avatar and then he was fairly popular and starred in a few more movies and then seemed to fade away. He's not exactly a typical handsome leading man and his acting is okay but not great.

R7 and he was a bricklayer because he’s a strong manly man.
James Cameron was asked why he cast an Aussie in the lead role of his new massive Epic instead of an American actor and he said because America doesn’t produce manly men any longer the way foreign places do. That’s why so many Superhero roles or leads go to Brits or Aussie’s over Americans.

It's very odd that he never appeared in Neighbours or Home and Away in his youth.
I don't remember much about Dirty Deeds, where he appeared alongside Sam Neill, Toni Collette and Bryan Brown, but he was good in GAY INTEREST movie Somersault opposite Abbie Cornish.
He was good in The Debt opposite Jessica Chastain but I have no recollection of him being in Jennifer Aniston's Cake.

R12 well no matter what you do you’ll be known for that one movie when you were the face of a film that went on to make $3 billion dollars.
He didn’t have the hype Leo did to back it up, despite the push.

Sam had the same fate as most actors. The big hit movies they are in were hits because of the movie itself. When the draw is him, audiences don't go.

He was such a one-note emotionless actor. Made for TV but stumbled onto the big screen. His face more average than Chris Pratt’s. No wonder he’s relegated to the next Avatar, which will be a flop.

He was in a series about the Unabomber produced by DL fave Kevin Spacey.
He's also quite good in a pre-Avatar Australian movie called Somersault as a guy struggling with his sexuality who gets involved with a girl that seems to be suffering from DL's favorite mental illness Borderline Personality Disorder.

His role in Avatar could have been played by virtually any young actor and it wouldn’t have mattered. It was primarily a movie to display special effects technology. Although Sigourney Weaver and Zoe Saldana gave their best efforts.

While not a particularly good actor, he's not appreciably worse than most of the garden variety they've cast in Marvel movies.

[quote] and he was a bricklayer because he’s a strong manly man.
And he became a Christian because he was a stupid bricklayer.
Doesn’t he have really poor eyesight? I think I remember that from when he first started making movies. Blind as a bat.
Speaking of his eyes, they’re very slopey—most handsome men have those fleshy “curtains” that make the brow droop down over the upper eyelid. What does Datalounge think about that?

I believe this. Normal length but FAT when flaccid is usually an indicator that the erection is going to be quite big. R29, what do you mean by “Sure”? Like it’s not possible that he has a fat dick, or it’s not possible to see an actor’s dick in a locker room?
R31, I’m not the poster you’re quoting, but “Me and my friend rushed out,” while grammatically incorrect, is at least common and unpretentious—unlike “Myself and my friend rushed out,” which is both grammatically incorrect and pretentious.

His performances in Australian films prior to Avatar are all impressive. Most of the films with the exception of Somersault & Rogue were not. Most of them were underwhelming but he always stood out. Bootmen is a classic example. Underwhelming film but Worthington was really good an effortlessly stole the film from leading man Adam Garcia (WHET - now there is somebody who is as bland as they come).
His 'international' career, what little I've seen of it, is simply terrible, so I can understand many people not thinking much of him as an actor.
He returned back to Australia after filming the upcoming Avatar films in New Zealand. He has set up home again in Australia and was appearing on stage in Sydney earlier in the year. He also appears in an Australian mini-series Fires made by the ABC currently showing on TV. It's based on the devastating fires that wrecked havoc on the east coast of Australia and cost over 30 lives in late 2019. The fires went on for months and than the fucking pandemic hit. Actually, the death toll from the fire is actually much higher (in the hundreds) as the air quality was so bad for so long that people with certain health conditions died in the following months.
I have no idea if Fires is actually any good and am a little shocked that a series was made so soon after the events. We lived through it so recently I really have no desire to sit through a re-creation. I also don't know if the characters are based on real people or whether the series simply places fictional people into real events. No idea how big Sam Worthington's role is.

He was never really popular.
I feel like Avatar wasn’t even popular even though it was this huge movie. It was huge for a couple of months but for such a big movie, there’s really no following behind it.
They tried to make a big franchise type of movie and even though it did well, it’s not like it took on the Star Wars / Harry Potter / Marvel following I think it was aiming for.

[quote]It's very odd that he never appeared in Neighbours or Home and Away in his youth.
He was too busy studying at NIDA. It's rare to find a young NIDA graduate in either of those shows. Some of the oldies in them have been, but it seems to be where NIDA grads go when jobs start to dry up, not at the start of a career.
R37, Fires is very good indeed. Great cast and really good writing. I wouldn't have said Worthington's performance was one of the best, but I've never been much of a fan.
Maybe poor eyesight explains why he always seemed so uncomfortable on stage.

I would have thought a man would need even a small amount of muscle mass to be a successful brick layer. Maybe someone else lifted the bricks and Sam just pushed them around a bit?
Which is my way of saying that while he has a handsome face, his body is that of an underdeveloped teen boy. Give me hunky Chris Evans any day over this person, please.

Being a Nick Stahl fan, I remember I was fuming when this boring slab of nothing replaced Nick in the newer Terminator movies. Though I understood that Nick had to be replaced, as he lost control of his addiction and couldn't work or get insurance. Still, they should have found an actor of his same calibre.

R53 I was flying out of LAX once at Christmas and Nick was on my plane. Long greasy hair, Baja hoodie, guitar…just a hot mess but still pretty cute. He looked sad.
That same trip Posh Spice, David Beckham, and their brood all skipped the huge line at security and proceeded to be the awful pieces of trash you’d expect them to be. LA is weird, man.
