Biden Tells House Democrats Forget About Free Community College

As Biden and democrats seek to trim the massive social and physical infrastructure bills things are starting to go by the wayside.

Bernie Sanders can't have it, but he may have few to nil other choices.

Good.

He’s also reducing funding for the elderly and disabled.

I say good too.

America deserves the people they voted for.

by Anonymousreply 1October 19, 2021 11:39 PM

And black support among democrats is down 20%.

We're screwed if things don't start getting better soon.

by Anonymousreply 2October 19, 2021 11:40 PM

And he still hasn’t ordered KFC to bring back potato wedges, which is the main reason I voted for him.

by Anonymousreply 3October 19, 2021 11:42 PM

Between this and the way Nancy Pelosi handled the $600 bank transaction alerts the IRS question at a press conference, this is not a party who seems hellbent on keeping its voters from turning red in 2024.

by Anonymousreply 4October 19, 2021 11:45 PM

Being an eternal optimist one feels Biden just wants to get something done. If he and democrats as whole can go into 2022 not empty handed it gives them some good talking points for mid-term elections.

Providing democrats can keep House in 2022, and not lose any senate seats there will still be time before run up to 2024 elections to address things that were dropped out of previous economic package.

Worse thing democrats as a party can do is for various fractions to pick-up their toys and leave the sandbox.

[quote]Providing democrats can keep House in 2022

Won’t happen.

by Anonymousreply 6October 20, 2021 12:38 AM

Oh I don't know.

New York is controlled by liberal, progressive democrats who seem intent on redistricting that will get rid of one or two safe conservative GOP seats, such as Staten Island. Off the bat NYS does lose one seat in Congress anyway as result of recent census count. Democrats have said that will be a GOP seat, case closed.

by Anonymousreply 7October 20, 2021 1:20 AM

Because Manchin needs to lick coal's black toxic taint.

by Anonymousreply 8October 20, 2021 1:27 AM

R8

Manchin is voting his district, or at least what he believes is what majority wish.

The guy is a democrat in largely GOP conservative state. Manchin could stick his neck out for Biden, Sanders, Schumer and Pelosi, but what is the good of that if he is challenged in primaries and or worse loses next election?

by Anonymousreply 9October 20, 2021 1:32 AM

Pelosi has set voting on these bills for end of this month. Biden leaves in early November to attend an international gathering of world leaders on climate change in early November.

After four years of DT and his administration Biden and democrats are keen to show USA is back at the table in regards to climate change. As such Biden cannot to to Scotland empty handed. He needs (or would like) a solid list of things passed into law that address said issue.

There are only about eleven or so days before Pelosi's vote deadline. All politics is about the art of possible, as such deals are going to be made and things dropped over coming week in aid of getting something done.

by Anonymousreply 10October 20, 2021 1:42 AM

People need to put up a fuss about this. Theirs was a huge selling point in the deal. They can shovel money at billionaires yet they can’t make community college free?

This is a trial balloon. That’s why it was leaked to the press. They expect the people to push back and give them hell. This is a huge part of the bill and it must stay in.

by Anonymousreply 11October 20, 2021 1:49 AM

No.

by Anonymousreply 12October 20, 2021 1:54 AM

I liked the talk about making this means-tested, as if lots of children of the affluent are attending community college.

by Anonymousreply 13October 20, 2021 2:12 AM

Ridiculous things like the Equality Act stay.

by Anonymousreply 14October 20, 2021 2:15 AM

Surprise, surprise...

by Anonymousreply 15October 20, 2021 2:17 AM

Uh oh

by Anonymousreply 16October 20, 2021 2:23 AM

LOL!

Cuts to education, cuts to the elderly? Monitoring petty amounts in a checking account? LOL!

Listen these are the things that matter to most people, not climate change. Climate change can be dealt with quietly and working with scientists and industry . We don't need to hear it so much. It is NOT a rallying cry for the average voter.

I hope they wake up and listen to the average Democratic voter.

by Anonymousreply 17October 20, 2021 2:24 AM

Democrats don’t care at all about the average voter. They care about trans, statues, and Islam.

by Anonymousreply 18October 20, 2021 2:42 AM

If you’re not a liberal when you’re 25, you have no heart. If you’re not a conservative by the time you’re 35, you have no brain.

We need to be realistic, the combination of alienating voters AND retirement is not a good thing.

[quote]In the last five days, House Democrats have lost almost 80 years of seniority in Congress with the retirements of Reps. John Yarmuth (Kentucky), David Price (North Carolina) and Mike Doyle (Pennsylvania).

Everyone needs to read the "Why Hillary Clinton Fears the GOP’s Next Moves" thread and the "Bill Maher Explains: Slow Moving Coup. Pay attention. It's frightening" thread.

Meanwhile back at the ranch all eyes are on Virginia's governor race. Outcome may very well be a bell weather at how well democrats are doing, and their chances in 2022.

The climate change stuff needs to stay in!

by Anonymousreply 23October 20, 2021 5:58 AM

They need to direct these young college wannabes to good-paying jobs like Electrician, HVAC, Plumber, Construction Worker and Truck Driver. I know it's cool to say you "in colidge", but it's not for everyone.

Manchin and Sinema have no character.

by Anonymousreply 26October 20, 2021 7:11 AM

R18, that isn't true. All the identity politics nonsense is nothing but a smoke screen, as they couldn't give any less of a damn about minorities - unless they're trying to inveigle them into voting blue-no-matter-who, of course.

The vast majority of Democrats, just like Republicans, only care about the 1%, because that is the group that they expect to join once they've served their corporate overlords in detriment of everybody else. Few people enter politics with genuinely noble aspirations, and the ones who do are rapidly purged from the system. Just look at the Fraud Squad.

by Anonymousreply 27October 20, 2021 9:13 AM

manchin wants everything cut. It is really fucked up.

by Anonymousreply 28October 20, 2021 9:25 AM

i fucked HATE this Manchin and sinema. This is not right at all. These policies are good.

by Anonymousreply 29October 20, 2021 9:27 AM

Dental for the poor on Medicare also seems to be out. ((LINK))....They are still pushing hearing and vision. Part of the problem is the Dental Association is AGAINST medicare paying for it. Greedy bastards.

I feel like many people were forced to become more politically savvy during the Trump Presidency.

You have to keep the large majority of your campaign promises or else, more now than ever, you're going to get screwed.

I don't see how they can keep the House at all or how Biden (if he even DARED to) can run again.

by Anonymousreply 31October 21, 2021 7:50 AM

It's getting very messy!
