What WERE The Four Big Pharmacy Chains

I was reading an article about the decline and death of Eckhart's Pharmacy.

It says "at one time Eckhart's was the second largest of the 'Big Four Pharmacies'." (which would be in the mid to late 1990s)

What are(or were) the other three

by Anonymousreply 14October 20, 2021 5:46 PM

Walgreens, CVS, Rite-Aid?

Eckerd's

Nationwide Rexall was a chain pharmacy. "Good Health to All From Rexall" was their slogan.

by Anonymousreply 3October 19, 2021 7:25 PM

From 192o to 1977, Rexall had 12,000 stores.

99% of you don't remember when CVS was Consumer Value Stores.

by Anonymousreply 5October 19, 2021 7:29 PM

Rexalls were franchised, not corporate.

Thrifty, Save-On, Skaggs, and Osco. All gone or bought out by others.

by Anonymousreply 7October 19, 2021 11:33 PM

Sav-On, not Save-On. And there was also PayLess and Long's in the west; People's, DrugFair, and Dart Drug in the east.

No longer in existence.

I Googled it and all I can find is reference to Eckert's

by Anonymousreply 10October 20, 2021 2:34 PM

R10 Rite Aid bought Eckert's

by Anonymousreply 11October 20, 2021 5:25 PM

Who's the dumfuck calling Eckerd's Ekhert's?

by Anonymousreply 12October 20, 2021 5:32 PM

Eckerd's was a major drug chain based in Florida with 2300 locations, primarily in the South.

For one brief, non-shining moment, there was Phar-Mor.
