Hotel California > Don Felder double neck guitar

Necessary? Or showboat? Scrub to 3:05 to see the start of the showboating. The Eagles had like 6 guitar players. Why would Felder need to have a double neck to play a guitar line? You can see that he has a capo on the top neck. And maybe he used this as the main guitar line for the first 1/2 of the song. But then, when it comes to the guitar duel with Joe Walsh, he plays the lower neck. WTF? I think it's stupid. Why not just tune to the song and play guitar like regular? Double neck guitar? Nope. Not needed. Having said that, he does handle it well.

I have an autographed biography of Don Felder. Anyone want it? Yours for the price of postage.

It's because they are trying to match the sounds to the studio version. Necessary? Nup. But it's a cool version where the guys look hot rather than fat and old (and I know age catches up with all of us).

They had so much talent but never managed to make a good song.

In the studio, Felder played the intro on a Takamine 12-string and the solo on his 1959 Les Paul Standard. Live, it was a different story.

"We got to the sound stage to rehearse that song to go on the road for the first Hotel California tour," Felder told Guitar World earlier this month. "I couldn’t figure out how I was gonna play the introduction and the solo stuff at the same time without literally changing guitars back and forth. So I got the idea of using a double-neck, the Gibson EDS-1275."

When performing the track live, Felder performed the 12-string intro on the guitar's top neck (through a Leslie) and switched to the lower 6-string neck for the soloing duel with Walsh.

Thank you r4! This is the answer to the riddle I was looking for! Altho he still could have used 2 guitars.

Who else famously used a double neck?

Jimmy Page was famous for his double neck.
