But they don’t want to tell me. My supervisor normally emails me my schedule the Friday before the next week. He didn’t email me last Friday. I sent him an email today and he said he would send the schedule later on today. Well it’s 8 pm. I have never been fired before. Now I’m not sure if I am going into work tomorrow. Any advice?
I think I lost my job

do you work at the Gap, I am sure Old Navy will hire you
by Anonymous | reply 1 | October 18, 2021 12:13 AM |
I’d go in if I were you. Good luck!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 18, 2021 12:13 AM |
Go in. But be prepared. It's one of the worst things to go through. You'll be in a state of shock. Like somebody you love dearly has just died.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 18, 2021 12:17 AM |
Just show up and see what happens. It worked for George Costanza.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 18, 2021 12:17 AM |
I hope so @R1 I might have to find a fast food job I might just do that @R2 I don’t know why they would fire me. I was always early and worked late.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 18, 2021 12:18 AM |
Are you sure that maybe there hasn't been some sort of technical problem that has prevented your manager from sending the schedule? If they were going to dismiss you, it wouldn't make much sense to keep stringing you along, when a simple message stating 'we need to talk on Monday' would be clear enough. Anything other than that would be extremely unprofessional.
Nonetheless, please allow me to wish you the best. I hope that everything is a silly mix up and tomorrow you will write saying that you've gotten wonderful news. Good luck!
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 18, 2021 12:21 AM |
Maybe your supervisor is having a hard time and has fallen behind on work tasks. It may not have anything to do with you. Have you done anything lately to warrant termination? It's odd that you don't receive your schedule and immediately assume termination. Bottom line - Go to work tomorrow. In fact, arrive a few minutes early. Failing to show up will confirm you’re a lousy employee. Good luck!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 18, 2021 12:22 AM |
Well, on the bright side, everyone is hiring right now, OP. You probably won't have to do fast food. I worked at Old Navy for awhile years ago. It wasn't that bad. There are always one or two hilarious coworkers in retail who almost redeem the assholes.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 18, 2021 12:24 AM |
I had a roommate in a similar situation, thankfully he went in to work the next day, because he wasn't the one that was fired but the supervisor.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 18, 2021 12:26 AM |
My be your supervisor was fired.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 18, 2021 12:27 AM |
You are likely overreacting. But always be prepared for this, it can happen to anyone at anytime. Happened to me twice and yes it's traumatic, even when you're expecting it (in one instance I worked for an ogre who despised me so it shouldn't have been a surprise, but I still felt as though I had been viciously slapped).
If it does happen, you WILL find something else and likely something better, especially now when employers are falling over each other to hire people. It's a job seeker's market. You WILL land on your feet.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 18, 2021 12:27 AM |
This is a great job market to find a job in, everyone is hiring.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 18, 2021 12:28 AM |
OP, businesses are scrambling to find and keep workers, I doubt they would be firing you in this climate.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 18, 2021 12:29 AM |
let us know!!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 18, 2021 12:35 AM |
I guess bookings must be down at the whorehouse where you work.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 18, 2021 12:41 AM |
Go into work at your normally scheduled time. It will show initiative and responsibility for your job. If they can use you--well, you'll already be there. If they cannot use you, well, you'll already be there and can pick up your schedule then--and then you can go home and come back when you're scheduled.
If your boss wants to fire you, then he'll have to confront you and speak with you right then.
If your boss is not there when you show up, stay and go about working as if you had been scheduled. It will show initiative and responsibility for your job.

by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 18, 2021 12:46 AM |
I don’t charge for that. @R15 Thanks for all the advice. I feel better now.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 18, 2021 12:47 AM |
Op, I hope everything turns out ok and you have your schedule in your email when you get up tomorrow. But, think about this - Around 5 years ago I sent a friend of mine who was struggling working in a restaurant a listing for an entry level position. The requirements were minimal. It was for the call center for a big corporation. Bottom of the ladder, but she was making more than at the restaurant and she got benefits. She rose up in the company to become a district manager and recently got a promotion to the IT dept. in a tech. position. She's making over $70,000 plus bonuses now and she'll easily make over $100,000 in a few years.
Keep your eyes open. Now is the time to look for those entry level positions and have some job security.

OP, I doubt you have been fired in this labor market but if you have been, it's the best time ever to be fired- look at it as an opportunity.
Also, if this is how they treat you in general but especially in the aforementioned labor market, man, find another job. Seriously, respect yourself even if they don't!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 18, 2021 1:02 AM |
Most likely what has been suggested: boss hasn't made the schedule yet or there's some technical issue.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 18, 2021 2:03 AM |

Good luck, Bodega Cat. If you get fired, it will suck emotionally. But the job market is wide open. You’ll get a better job quickly.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 18, 2021 11:49 AM |
I’ve been terminated twice. The first time I got defensive and reacted badly. It didn’t go well at all and HR made things very difficult for me. The second time I smiled and told them I understood and respected their decision and they ended up increasing my severance. Take the high road.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 18, 2021 11:50 AM |
Probably not you, so go to work as normal, but take a loaded AR-15 with you just in case.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 18, 2021 12:10 PM |
The suspense is killing me.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 18, 2021 3:09 PM |
OP, if this post is any indication of how you respond under pressure, I would fire you too.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 18, 2021 3:13 PM |
We should have an opening soon!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 18, 2021 3:13 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 19, 2021 1:25 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 19, 2021 1:26 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 19, 2021 1:35 AM |
I wasn’t fired! I went to work and they gave me more hours. He thought it sent to me. I am not a fucking woman.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 19, 2021 1:42 AM |
Rofl at you BodegaCat.
I, along with many others here, always thought you were female!!
Not sure why.
Maybe it's the name.

Thank you @R49 I really need this job
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 19, 2021 1:53 AM |
1) unless they actually notify you that you're terminated, keep going to work.
2) if this is the way they communicate with employees (by NOT communicating with them), you should start looking for someplace that handles things more professionally.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 19, 2021 1:55 AM |
Bodega-cat I’m glad you weren’t fired. I’m sure it was huge relief that your manager is just a dumbass fuckup.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 19, 2021 2:06 AM |
That mother fucker
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 19, 2021 2:11 AM |
Bodega-Cat, I never thought you were a woman. That’s why I was confused by the comment at R25. Glad you’re still employed and getting more hours.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 19, 2021 2:11 AM |
I always thought you were a cat.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 19, 2021 2:13 AM |
Glad nothing happened. Like others have said with this job market, it’ll take a hell of a lot to get fired.
Plus, I thought this was how bodega cat looked.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 19, 2021 2:21 AM |
I always thought Bodega cat was a man. Who knew he was actually a pussy!
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 19, 2021 2:22 AM |
Great news Bodega Cat!
If you’re keeping track, I never thought you were a woman either.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 19, 2021 2:26 AM |
For one whole year there were rumors my company was going to layoff a good chunk of the workforce. And one day while driving into the office I had the worst feeling that that was the day. I was right. Because the first time I had driven to my first interview with the company, I knew I was going to get the job. Intuitions.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 19, 2021 3:33 AM |
Maybe Bodega Tom Cat is the way to go!
by Anonymous | reply 63 | October 19, 2021 7:39 AM |

What do you do, Bodega Cat, that you don't have a set schedule? Inquiring minds want to know.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | October 19, 2021 10:12 AM |
[quote]I am not a fucking woman.
It's because you're one of the anti-trans trolls, that's why people think you're a woman. Also, you're a hysteric.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | October 19, 2021 10:13 AM |
Are you related to Doja Cat?
by Anonymous | reply 69 | October 19, 2021 10:17 AM |
I always figured you were a guy, but I liked imagining you working at a bodega and DL’ing during your shift.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | October 19, 2021 11:49 AM |
OP is an independent woman now and needs to live off the trust. It’s very important this is done in a sustainable manner or WORK will be necessary.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | October 19, 2021 11:52 AM |
Great news Cat! I hope he realises his oversight caused you some anxiety and needless grief.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | October 19, 2021 12:41 PM |

I assumed bodega cat was a 🐈⬛ living in a Dominican owned bodega in the Bronx.
You learn something new every day on the DL.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | October 19, 2021 6:00 PM |
OP, good news, you kept your job Bad news, you are an adult working in a low paying shift job.

Quit being such a snob R76.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | October 19, 2021 7:24 PM |
I mean the poster is right to an extent r77. Any job where you are still waiting on someone to schedule you hours is not a job where it is *that* big of deal if you lost it.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | October 19, 2021 7:35 PM |
Just stay home and edge all day.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | October 19, 2021 7:51 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 85 | October 22, 2021 2:17 AM |
