Drag Race Canada season 2 - because we simply do not have enough Drag Race

I have nothing pithy, we just didn't have a thread.

by Anonymousreply 67December 17, 2021 9:00 PM

Hello? Is this thing on?

by Anonymousreply 1October 17, 2021 3:48 AM

I did get around to watching it.

My only thoughts:

Brooklyn visited the doctor and bought a new face between seasons.

They tried to convince us it was a good lip sync and that one queen could dance. She could not, it was not.

by Anonymousreply 2October 17, 2021 3:54 AM

The queen who was not sent home gives me the creeps. I have no idea why and feel kind of bad about it but he makes my skin crawl. I was really hoping he went home.

Oceania (?) in drag looks exactly like Latrice Royal which cracks me up.

There doesn't seem to be much middle talent/looks. Just fairly nice and lower tier. The asian guy (?) has long super sharp eyeteeth which makes his smile look cool.

by Anonymousreply 3October 17, 2021 4:02 AM

This really is Drag Race overload back to back with UK. I can barely remember any of the queens from the premiere.

by Anonymousreply 4October 17, 2021 5:24 AM

Océane is like Latrice's distant French-African [italic]cousine[/italic] who just got out of a stint in the mental home.

by Anonymousreply 5October 17, 2021 7:40 AM

Eve 6000 is going to be the cringe queen of the season. Her tear-free attention-hog sobbing after being called safe was camp, mawma.

by Anonymousreply 6October 17, 2021 7:46 AM

Yeah the crying was insufferable and I cringed for her, let the bottom queens get the attention, its their moment, its a shame she wasn't in the bottom and I bet Ru thought regretted it also. Also the third large girl to hurt her knee...

by Anonymousreply 7October 17, 2021 7:59 AM

I had a good cackle once I realized Stephanie's entrance outfit was the Jollibee mascot.

by Anonymousreply 8October 17, 2021 6:39 PM

I cackled when they announced that one of the prizes is "a sickening supply of cosmetics from Shoppers Drug Mart." On the other hand, their $100,000 grand prize is tax-free.

by Anonymousreply 9October 17, 2021 8:02 PM

R9 Cackle all you want, but Shoppers Drug Mart's Beauty Boutiques sells some relatively high end cosmetics for the girls: Nars, Bobbi Brown, Chanel, Dior, Urban Decay, Yves Saint Laurent, Lancôme, etc. It's not just Maybelline and Cover Girl.

by Anonymousreply 10October 17, 2021 11:19 PM

Thanks Rescue Chick! I was the poster in the UK thread who asked about a Canada thread.

by Anonymousreply 11October 17, 2021 11:28 PM

Of course, whoever was in charge of the captions spelled 'Colombian' with a u instead of the second o.

by Anonymousreply 12October 18, 2021 3:29 PM

I’m not going to watch it, as I am already dragged out and am saving my excitement for International All Stars and All Stars Winners but I will watch Nina Bonina Browns recaps.

by Anonymousreply 13October 18, 2021 3:34 PM

I like it fine so far. I am a sucker for Canadian versions of reality tv such as Big Brother, Top Chef and Amazing Race. For some reason I find most Canadians interesting yet unlikable. .

by Anonymousreply 14October 18, 2021 3:43 PM

R13 NBB spends over half of her videos complaining about fans who don't watch her boring video game liveplays. Ugh. I wish she realized her fans don't care!!!

by Anonymousreply 15October 19, 2021 1:33 AM

I guess they're keeping Eve 6000 around for the drama. We're only two episodes in, and already I've had sufficient.

by Anonymousreply 16October 22, 2021 3:24 PM

Wow, that "Rusical" set a new low. Which is really saying something. The story, the singing, the dancing. Totally cringeworthy.

by Anonymousreply 17October 22, 2021 3:27 PM

Aw, I liked it—it was certainly better than Shakesqueer and Glamazonian Airways. The runways were some of the best I've ever seen.

by Anonymousreply 18October 22, 2021 4:31 PM
For some reason I find most Canadians interesting yet unlikable. .

Most people find the opposite.

by Anonymousreply 19October 22, 2021 4:37 PM

I haven't been able to watch an entire season of either UK or Canada so far. It's been too much Drag Race for me, combined with the regular seasons, the All Stars seasons, the awful Secret Celebrity season... decisions had to be made. Cuts had to happen

by Anonymousreply 20October 22, 2021 4:49 PM

Haven't watched any drag race for six months so this is fresh to me, so far it's good, but this new slogan "Racers start your engines, and may the best drag queen win" is lame. Where's the pun, or the fun in that? Are they going to say this for every iteration of drag race now?

by Anonymousreply 21October 26, 2021 12:22 AM

Correct, R21. They've said that in all the iterations (US, UK, Canada and Down Under) since the beginning of last year (basically any season taped after US S13).

You can thank Gottmik for that.

by Anonymousreply 22October 29, 2021 4:33 AM

Holy fuck, the never ending "acting" challenge tonight is probably the most painful drag race bit of any season, even topping Draglexa snoozefest from last week's UK episode.

by Anonymousreply 23October 29, 2021 5:36 AM
Shoppers Drug Mart

Sells the same kind of thing you would find at HBC. I don't know what the American equivalent is.

by Anonymousreply 24October 29, 2021 6:23 AM

Good for the one who won this week, I thought she’d be an early out for sure. Not bad looking out of drag either. Wink.

by Anonymousreply 25October 29, 2021 8:45 PM

Adriana's runway was gorgeous. I think she and Pythia are the ones to watch.

by Anonymousreply 26October 29, 2021 10:52 PM

Does anyone else just fast forward to the final runway and challenge reveal? I can’t stand hearing the bullshit sob stories each episode.

by Anonymousreply 27October 30, 2021 8:52 PM

I sure do, R27. Either I fast forward or tune out while doing something else during the workroom segment right before RuPaul's runway walk.

It's getting increasingly obvious that production tells one of the queens to ask a 'thought-provoking' question to the room, and every week there has to be a personal sob story shared with the group. I'm not a big fan of emotionally manipulative grief porn so it really is my least favorite part of a typical Drag Race episode (and overall, it's second only to the awful Childhood Photos on the Runway that they do every time when it's down to just four of them).

by Anonymousreply 28October 31, 2021 10:54 PM

According to Reddit lore, the queen with the biggest sob story of the week goes home.

by Anonymousreply 29October 31, 2021 10:55 PM

That was one of the worst episodes ever. This show really sucks. UK isn't all that great, but it seems brilliant next to this crap. Too bad, as I didn't mind the first season. (Even WITH Jeffrey something-something.)

by Anonymousreply 30November 1, 2021 3:46 AM

I appreciate that Canada is trying to do its own thing without Ru, and it's better than Drag Race Down Under.

by Anonymousreply 31November 3, 2021 12:43 AM

Canada really has a small bench of talented drag performers. The quality of the girls is about the same as the current US queens and they’re already in season 14. The good queens have come and gone.

by Anonymousreply 32November 4, 2021 1:16 PM

Connor was pretty restrained. I think he said two or three lines the entire judging panel.

by Anonymousreply 33November 6, 2021 3:57 AM

I'm enjoying this season. As a Canadian, the quality of the show is pretty much par for the course when it comes to Canadian television. Yeah, it's shit compared to Drag Race US or UK, but what can you expect with Canadian production values?

I can't say that it's particularly GOOD, but something about seeing so much Canadiana in a drag race context tickles me. Little moments like Synthia Kiss dressing as the ICONIC Jeanne Beker is what make me enjoy the show.

I'm excited to see Bif Naked in the next episode.

by Anonymousreply 34November 8, 2021 12:58 AM

I started watching it tonight. It’s okay, but it’s so…well, CANADIAN.

by Anonymousreply 35November 10, 2021 2:07 AM

Brooke Lynn can be really funny in a dry way. I laughed when she said before Snatch Game (which was terrible, by the way), "... and may the least shitty one win!"

by Anonymousreply 36November 10, 2021 5:07 AM

The wrting for the host's quips is truly awful. The writers for the American version and the UK version is up and down, but this is horrible.

by Anonymousreply 37November 10, 2021 11:46 AM

^ Yeah, it's never good, but Connor Jessup gave me secondhand embarrassment.

by Anonymousreply 38November 11, 2021 1:33 AM

R38 His comments were on point though, the hair WAS flat

by Anonymousreply 39November 11, 2021 4:21 AM

Eve 6000 is horrible, but her performance in the rusical was something else.🤣 🤡

by Anonymousreply 40November 11, 2021 11:52 PM

Bif Naked was adorable on this episode. I love it when the guest judges are happy to be there.

by Anonymousreply 41November 12, 2021 4:12 PM

Worst Snatch Game ever.

by Anonymousreply 42November 12, 2021 10:44 PM

Weird country meets rap girl group challenge. I guess inspired by little Nas? I want Kendall to go next shes a snooze fest.

by Anonymousreply 43November 13, 2021 11:25 AM

I'm glad Eve 6000 is gone. Her constant whimpering was too much, don't these queens ever feel embarrassed crying and wailing on TV? I just couldn't imagine doing something like that.

by Anonymousreply 44November 14, 2021 3:59 PM

Kendall Gender (stupid name) is boring, even with her drug addiction story she still comes off as rather bland.

by Anonymousreply 45November 14, 2021 4:02 PM
Worst Snatch Game ever.

Suki's Yoko Ono went straight past bad to "so bad it was iconic."

by Anonymousreply 46November 14, 2021 6:01 PM

Seeing them all bloviate about their pronouns and identity this episode was embarrassing. All of them are way too old to be doing this pronoun thing. Apparently being gay isn't good enough, you have to be more labels than just that. The narcissism put on display by some of these queens is quite astounding.

by Anonymousreply 47November 24, 2021 9:25 PM

That’s why I fast forward to the runway R47. Can’t be bothered with the back stories and sympathy angles. I miss the good old days when the queens would talk shit about each other.

by Anonymousreply 48November 24, 2021 9:39 PM

Weirdest LSFYL ever.

by Anonymousreply 49November 26, 2021 3:00 AM

Amanda Brugel's WTF face during it said it all.

by Anonymousreply 50November 26, 2021 3:18 AM

"It was weird as shit."

by Anonymousreply 51November 26, 2021 3:30 AM

So unfair on the other girl what kimora did on that lip sync. She really couldn’t shine when you had her there in your face the whole time. She did well not to loose her cool.

by Anonymousreply 52November 27, 2021 4:22 PM

No comments after that great episode?

Kendall and Stormi Gender were awesome. I thought they had the best story on the runway. And I loved them in the workroom together. They really are so much alike! Lol

by Anonymousreply 53December 7, 2021 10:13 PM

I know people are saying that they find this season of Canada's Drag Race to be better than Season 3 of UKDR, but meh I enjoyed the UK season more. The judging this season is much better (except I don't like Traci Melchor) but the Queens are far more dull compared to the first season.

by Anonymousreply 54December 9, 2021 6:16 PM

Had to laugh when they spent time at the reunion discussing all the workroom sob stories from throughout the season, with a special focus on the ones about pronoun usage and identities.

by Anonymousreply 55December 10, 2021 8:20 AM

I thought Gia won that last lip sync. Pythia just seemed a little low energy in both lip syncs for me.

by Anonymousreply 56December 10, 2021 5:35 PM

So how do we think is going to win....I'm thinking Icesis Couture

by Anonymousreply 57December 10, 2021 6:20 PM

Icesis is also my choice. Kendall is a nice girl but I don't get a winner vibe from her at all, and Pythia has fantastic looks but is kind of a bore. R56 is right, she's not a high energy lip syncer and Icesis wiped the floor with her in the first round of the battle royale.

by Anonymousreply 58December 11, 2021 4:26 PM

It’s too bad Ru didn’t beam in and tell them both to sashay the second that horrible humping business started. That entire lip synch was a disaster.

by Anonymousreply 59December 13, 2021 1:34 AM

Speaking of Ru, is there a reason why he and Michelle host every single other English version of Drag Race but not Canada's?

by Anonymousreply 60December 13, 2021 4:27 AM

I can’t imagine that Ru would want to live in Toronto for any amount of time.

by Anonymousreply 61December 13, 2021 1:49 PM

R60 I think Canada has rules about having native born performers on their shows so we only see Ru in video clips.

by Anonymousreply 62December 13, 2021 3:28 PM

Following what R60, yes it has to do with funding rules in Canada. The Canadian entertainment industry is incredibly small and there is very little money in it. Domestic productions, like Canada's Drag Race, often depend on government grants for funding. The funding has very strict rules about what is considered Canadian content, one of which is that the talent (both on screen and behind the camera) has to be Canadian. Having Ru as the host would likely have disqualified the show from receiving grants.

by Anonymousreply 63December 13, 2021 4:04 PM

R63 no, that’s not correct. This show easily leaps over all CanCon guidelines, even with an American host. the jury remains out on why RuPaul dissed her Canadian fans. My money is either on past DUIs preventing her from crossing the border or, more likely, extreme disinterest in going to Canada.

by Anonymousreply 64December 17, 2021 9:07 AM

But didn't Ru end up in fucking Auckland, New Zealand r64?

(Or was that just a bad dream?)

by Anonymousreply 65December 17, 2021 9:30 AM

Great final lipsync.

I hope Stacey McKenzie can come back for S3 (assuming it gets renewed).

by Anonymousreply 66December 17, 2021 12:37 PM

Stacey McKenzie with subtitles. Couldn’t understand a word.
