‘Halloween Kills’ Stabbing Lots Of Green With $47M+ Opening
Friday Midday Update: The theatrical day-and-date of Halloween Kills on streaming service Peacock doesn’t look to be slowing the sequel’s box office traction down. Noon estimates show the pic making $21M today, including $4.85M previews, for an estimated $47.5M 3-day. That’s 38% off from the 2018 reboot’s opening weekend (the 4th best for October at $76.2M). Coincidentally, the difference in opening weekends between 2009’s Halloween 2 and the 2007 Halloween re-imagination was also -38%. As of right now, Halloween Kills weekend is matching that of Paramount’s A Quiet Place Part II which also minted a 3-day of $47.5M over Memorial Day weekend. Hopefully turnstiles won’t slow for Halloween Kills as horror films tend to be front-loaded. One film financier phoned me early this AM and pointed out that he saw this overperformance coming given the sequel’s wild fever on social media.

JLC is bedridden throughout almost the entire movie, getting pumped with painkillers.
The guy they are chasing down assuming he was MM looks nothing like him in stature - he's short and fat. It was beyond obvious it wasn't him.
Nobody in the movie could figure out how to use a gun.
How did MM get in the doctors' car in the first place? She had the keys and would have had to unlock it first.
Michael McDonald (from MadTV, not the singer) played Little John, part of the gay couple.
What was a 70 something elderly woman doing playing with a RC quadcopter?

R3 Exactly! The guy they were chasing was short, fat and looked like the supervillan, Penguin. It's ridiculous that they claimed they couldn't tell it wasn't him because Michael never takes his mask off.

Kyle kept talking about her scene and how she had to escape Michael while in a swamp, and how handlers were checking for crocodiles. It sounded very exciting but nowhere to be found? Maybe they'll do an extended cut.
The way this film was edited, it likes they removed tons of stuff to keep it short. This probably should've been two movies to add more character development. We know NOTHING about Lindsey, MCH, or others....
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 20, 2021 7:37 PM

We don’t need to know about them r15. This is a slasher film. Not Shakespeare.
It was very obvious there was footage cut. When Lindsey escapes she is hiding by a tree and MM walks away. Later when she is found by the group she is dirty laying on the ground, injured and bloody.
A whole thing was cut.

Every problem with these reboot directly stems from the fact that they try to sever any connection between MM and Laurie. In the first plot, it was the idiotic plot with Dr. Sartain and in this one, it's the fact that instead of going after Laurie in the hospital, he decides to go home. WTF? Why does he need to go home? This decision ends up being one of the stupidest in the franchise.

Regarding the mistaken identity of Michael Myers. That was the whole point that the mob didn't care about the truth. They just wanted to kill someone. Remember, evil dies tonight! It was obvious to everybody that he wasn't Myers, but the angry mob was out for blood and blinded by rage.

Not to mention the gay men were in their 50s. I’d get saying they wouldn’t wanna be in Haddonfield if they were in their 20s, but 50s? Please. I'm starting to think they go into production on these movies without a finished script. David Gordon Green said in an interview that he's still not sure exactly where Halloween Ends is going and they're supposed to start shooting in January or February. Not sure how that can possibly bode well. Seems to me like they barely had enough material for just one sequel, but when that was a hit, they were forced into writing two more and had no direction to take the story.

John Carpenter is a horrible director. Most of his movies are dull, ugly, and borderline unwatchable. I just watched Prince of Darkness and it was awful dreck. This was released the same year as Hellraiser and Predator came out. Watch those and then watch PoD. His work is always amateur hour. Sure, Hellraiser was cheaply made but it's weird, scary, and interesting.
I think he's self-aware enough to have stepped back from directing...even though all of his contemporaries are still going strong.
