‘Halloween Kills’ Stabbing Lots Of Green With $47M+ Opening

Friday Midday Update: The theatrical day-and-date of Halloween Kills on streaming service Peacock doesn’t look to be slowing the sequel’s box office traction down. Noon estimates show the pic making $21M today, including $4.85M previews, for an estimated $47.5M 3-day. That’s 38% off from the 2018 reboot’s opening weekend (the 4th best for October at $76.2M). Coincidentally, the difference in opening weekends between 2009’s Halloween 2 and the 2007 Halloween re-imagination was also -38%. As of right now, Halloween Kills weekend is matching that of Paramount’s A Quiet Place Part II which also minted a 3-day of $47.5M over Memorial Day weekend. Hopefully turnstiles won’t slow for Halloween Kills as horror films tend to be front-loaded. One film financier phoned me early this AM and pointed out that he saw this overperformance coming given the sequel’s wild fever on social media.

It’s Friday night. The night isn’t even over yet they know how much it’s making? No. They need to relax.

by Anonymousreply 1October 16, 2021 1:05 AM

r1, you do know that people buy tickets in advance, right?

by Anonymousreply 2October 16, 2021 1:20 AM

JLC is bedridden throughout almost the entire movie, getting pumped with painkillers.

The guy they are chasing down assuming he was MM looks nothing like him in stature - he's short and fat. It was beyond obvious it wasn't him.

Nobody in the movie could figure out how to use a gun.

How did MM get in the doctors' car in the first place? She had the keys and would have had to unlock it first.

Michael McDonald (from MadTV, not the singer) played Little John, part of the gay couple.

What was a 70 something elderly woman doing playing with a RC quadcopter?

by Anonymousreply 3October 16, 2021 1:27 AM

R3 what does age have to do with playing with toys? Some people, even old, like gadgets and technology. They aren’t all sitting all day watching tv.

by Anonymousreply 4October 16, 2021 1:29 AM

It doesn't get many treats from the reviewers.

I’m a big fan of the original & this movie is just a mess! Too much gore, not enough scares, & Kyle is in the movie for like 5 mins.

by Anonymousreply 6October 16, 2021 6:23 AM

Is it as scary as the puhkipsea tapes?

by Anonymousreply 7October 16, 2021 6:27 AM

WTF did I just watch???

by Anonymousreply 8October 16, 2021 7:09 AM

so. many. things. wrong.

by Anonymousreply 9October 16, 2021 8:51 PM

R3 Exactly! The guy they were chasing was short, fat and looked like the supervillan, Penguin. It's ridiculous that they claimed they couldn't tell it wasn't him because Michael never takes his mask off.

by Anonymousreply 10October 19, 2021 4:03 AM

Kyle Richards' character was the only one in the movie who wasn't a complete fucking idiot.

by Anonymousreply 11October 19, 2021 4:06 AM

Even Marion was an idiot in this one

by Anonymousreply 12October 19, 2021 4:09 AM

[quote] so. many. things. wrong.

Yeah, where's Tina? Where's the Thorn cult? Where's 3 different masks in one movie? Where's Busta Rhymes? Where's the hour long white trash backstory?

by Anonymousreply 13October 19, 2021 4:11 AM

The movie sucked.

by Anonymousreply 14October 19, 2021 10:39 PM

Kyle kept talking about her scene and how she had to escape Michael while in a swamp, and how handlers were checking for crocodiles. It sounded very exciting but nowhere to be found? Maybe they'll do an extended cut.

The way this film was edited, it likes they removed tons of stuff to keep it short. This probably should've been two movies to add more character development. We know NOTHING about Lindsey, MCH, or others....

by Anonymousreply 15October 20, 2021 8:37 PM

We don’t need to know about them r15. This is a slasher film. Not Shakespeare.

It was very obvious there was footage cut. When Lindsey escapes she is hiding by a tree and MM walks away. Later when she is found by the group she is dirty laying on the ground, injured and bloody.

A whole thing was cut.

by Anonymousreply 16October 20, 2021 8:39 PM

Every problem with these reboot directly stems from the fact that they try to sever any connection between MM and Laurie. In the first plot, it was the idiotic plot with Dr. Sartain and in this one, it's the fact that instead of going after Laurie in the hospital, he decides to go home. WTF? Why does he need to go home? This decision ends up being one of the stupidest in the franchise.

by Anonymousreply 17October 20, 2021 8:51 PM

I don’t see the issue with him going home.

by Anonymousreply 18October 20, 2021 10:10 PM

Regarding the mistaken identity of Michael Myers. That was the whole point that the mob didn't care about the truth. They just wanted to kill someone. Remember, evil dies tonight! It was obvious to everybody that he wasn't Myers, but the angry mob was out for blood and blinded by rage.

by Anonymousreply 19October 20, 2021 10:16 PM

R18 MM likes to stalk and kill his victims. If all he wanted was to stare out of a window, he could've remained a mental patient.

by Anonymousreply 20October 20, 2021 10:17 PM

I don’t think that’s all he wants r20. But he wants his home to go back to.

by Anonymousreply 21October 20, 2021 10:19 PM

I think Kyle was supposed to die but they changed that.

by Anonymousreply 22October 20, 2021 10:52 PM

They changed a number of things, apparently—all for the worse. The original ending was much better.

by Anonymousreply 23October 20, 2021 10:54 PM

I get all of the negative reactions but I think it was a fun movie experience. The mask alone is the best it has ever been in the franchise. It's perfect IMO.

by Anonymousreply 24October 20, 2021 10:58 PM

R24 it’s a fun movie. I rewatched it this morning (since I am home today) and liked it a lot more than the first time. It’s a fun flick.

by Anonymousreply 25October 20, 2021 11:02 PM

Nothin fun about this heinous, directionless, soulless killing spree. Bloody chaos is sickening not fun

by Anonymousreply 26October 20, 2021 11:03 PM

Nah, I think it was a fun movie experience—a little too much fun, perhaps. Too silly. It was made for the idiots. I’m sure audiences were thrilled, but these are the same morons who keep flocking to theaters for every comic book movie, begging Hollywood for more.

by Anonymousreply 27October 20, 2021 11:05 PM

It was fun. Better rewatch value than 2018 for sure

by Anonymousreply 28October 20, 2021 11:11 PM

[quote] I’m sure audiences were thrilled,

Not necessarily. It got a B- Cinemascore which is pretty bad by Cinemascore standards!

by Anonymousreply 29October 21, 2021 1:54 PM

Yeah, it’s being slammed

by Anonymousreply 30October 21, 2021 1:58 PM

B- isn’t bad.

by Anonymousreply 31October 21, 2021 4:46 PM

The RT viewer score is down to 70%. The exact same as Halloween 2018, which all the Kills junkies tell us is such a terrible film. Only difference is that the critics loved H2018.

by Anonymousreply 32October 22, 2021 12:51 AM

why do people think they can tango with michael? its cute. they all thought they could go toe to toe with michael. none of them know how to shoot or are experts in combat.

by Anonymousreply 33October 23, 2021 6:35 PM

He’s only still standing cause it’s a movie. In real life, a couple people in that lynch mob would’ve had AR-15s and blew his old ass away.

It was hilarious when one guy rolled up in a truck and pulled a shovel out the back. Like are you serious? You’re out there looking for Michael Myers with a goddamn shovel for protection? What’re you gonna do, dig your own grave for him?

by Anonymousreply 34October 23, 2021 6:40 PM

The person with the iron was just silly

by Anonymousreply 35October 23, 2021 6:59 PM

MM still is a crazy ass driver. A car accident might be the best hope for his demise

by Anonymousreply 36October 23, 2021 7:02 PM

I think Hawkins is gonna take him out in the next movie.

by Anonymousreply 37October 23, 2021 8:28 PM

I hate how everyone was out for blood and then when facing Michael they immediately aim to wound - NOT kill. Just chop his fucking head off - it’s not that difficult! Especially hated that scene with Lonnie, his son and Allyson.

That being said - I enjoyed the movie! I think I’ll watch it again and definitely more than the last one - which was more annoying teens/kids. Plus, I loved what Big John and Little John did with the place - very Tasteful Friends!

by Anonymousreply 38October 24, 2021 2:07 AM

I liked the Cameron/Allyson scene. Lonnie died off screen.

How can they cut his head off with a knife? It IS that hard fool.

by Anonymousreply 39October 24, 2021 2:20 AM

Just hit him with a bag o' bricks!

by Anonymousreply 40October 24, 2021 2:43 AM

There's a reason DL's Cheryl will never be in a Halloween movie, because she's MM's real Kryptonite. Not even the mask can save MM from the stench of her pussy.

by Anonymousreply 41October 24, 2021 2:46 AM

Who would want to live in that house? Or that town for that matter.

by Anonymousreply 42October 24, 2021 2:54 AM

r42, Little John and Big John, apparently.

by Anonymousreply 43October 24, 2021 2:55 AM

No gays would ever want to live in dumbfuck Haddonfield.

by Anonymousreply 44October 24, 2021 2:56 AM

Just watched it. The poster above was right-NO ONE in that fucking town knows how to fire a gun and one dope.manages.to blow her own head off even though Im not sure how. The gay guys decorated the house horribly in the deepest green possible. EVERY FUCKING ROOM.

by Anonymousreply 45October 24, 2021 2:59 AM

The mob in the hospital was the jump the shark moment for this franchise. Ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 46October 24, 2021 3:05 AM

R44 hate to break it to you but there are many of gay men who like suburban lives. Some of you need to get out of NYC and LA, which you moved to, you aren’t even originally from.

by Anonymousreply 47October 24, 2021 3:13 AM

Not to mention the gay men were in their 50s. I’d get saying they wouldn’t wanna be in Haddonfield if they were in their 20s, but 50s? Please. Many eldergays have their shit together and are aware of their age and settle in a beautiful home in a safe town they like. Not all are stuck in their 20s mentally, living in tiny apartments like 25 year olds in NYC.

by Anonymousreply 48October 24, 2021 3:15 AM

You all do realize that MM was locked away for 40 years in the timeline, right? The town moved on and was safe. I’m sure the John’s didn’t think MM was ever coming back.

by Anonymousreply 49October 24, 2021 3:18 AM

But they knew had escaped. It was all over the news and the town was in a tizzy. His old house would be the last place I would be

by Anonymousreply 50October 24, 2021 3:26 AM

But he just escaped that night… this film takes place the same night. Are they supposed to move that fast?

by Anonymousreply 51October 24, 2021 3:28 AM

It was on the news early in the movie

by Anonymousreply 52October 24, 2021 3:31 AM

Well why didn’t they call the police and leave their home when they saw an intruder not only broke in, but left blood stains beside the door? How dumb can you be? And Big John, who’s supposed to be the top, goes upstairs with a fucking cheese knife? Give me a break.

by Anonymousreply 53October 24, 2021 3:31 AM

The same can be said about Marion, who shot down the window she’s by and then locks all the doors AFTER shooting the windows. Why do you need the door locked if there is no window?

by Anonymousreply 54October 24, 2021 3:33 AM

Lonnie, his son and Allyson are ready to take down Michael and then…split up?!? Then Allyson decides to put down her shotgun to pull a knife out of a dead body? Then she’s slow to react when her boyfriend yells out.

What’s to like about that scene r39? Hated it!

by Anonymousreply 55October 24, 2021 3:38 AM

Also - how many murders have been described where the victim was almost completely decapitated with a knife? A lot…

Chop his head off!

by Anonymousreply 56October 24, 2021 3:41 AM

R56 with a knife? That takes a lot of work. There is a bone there. It’s not all skin and meat.

by Anonymousreply 57October 24, 2021 3:42 AM

The firefighter had the right idea with the chainsaw like thing, but oh the execution was off

by Anonymousreply 58October 24, 2021 3:44 AM

If fide didn’t kill him, or Knock him Unconscious, he certainly is supernatural. As if all the other impossible survivals weren’t enough evidence

by Anonymousreply 59October 24, 2021 3:45 AM

The deeper meaning is that you can't kill evil. It's all around us ... and in us. The only way to defeat is, well, to not give it more power by feeding it with negative energy (fear, hate, etc.).

Michael Myers is us at our hideous worst. I mean, wearing an inverted William Shatner mask? The horrors!

by Anonymousreply 60October 24, 2021 4:31 AM

Is the way to kill MM to do the opposite of what the gang had to do to Pennywise? They had to bully Pennywise to make him weaker and kill him, do you have to be kind and sweet to MM?

by Anonymousreply 61October 24, 2021 4:33 AM

[quote] The mob in the hospital was the jump the shark moment for this franchise. Ridiculous.

How quickly we forget Busta Rhymes.

by Anonymousreply 62October 24, 2021 6:35 AM

Different timeline R62. This is the rebooted franchise, with a completely new crew in charge, who were supposed to make us forget about the terrible sequels of the past. Then they went and created another goddamned terrible sequel.

by Anonymousreply 63October 24, 2021 11:55 AM

I never understood the hate for LL in H20

by Anonymousreply 64October 24, 2021 11:56 AM

They will never stop making these shitty films. Jamie Lee will be rolling away from Michael in a wheelchair for Halloween 60 years later in 2038.

by Anonymousreply 65October 24, 2021 12:26 PM

Sorry, I was drunk and read it wrong.

by Anonymousreply 66October 24, 2021 12:38 PM

The hospital scene was absolute insanity and bad camp. All I could think was “are they serious?” They totally devalued the franchise with that clown set piece

by Anonymousreply 67October 24, 2021 3:55 PM

R67 I think they were trying to do a January 6th insurrection metaphor there. It was ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 68October 24, 2021 3:56 PM

R67 the movie was shot way back in fall 2019

by Anonymousreply 69October 24, 2021 4:10 PM

It was Fine.

by Anonymousreply 70October 24, 2021 4:23 PM

That should have called that other turkey Dune Kills.

by Anonymousreply 71October 24, 2021 4:51 PM

I think it was more a "Lock Her Up" thing, bu t the mob mentality is the same.

by Anonymousreply 72October 24, 2021 4:59 PM

R69 Danny McBride said in an interview that they added the hospital mob scene 6 months after principal production.

by Anonymousreply 73October 24, 2021 5:06 PM

I'm starting to think they go into production on these movies without a finished script. David Gordon Green said in an interview that he's still not sure exactly where Halloween Ends is going and they're supposed to start shooting in January or February. Not sure how that can possibly bode well. Seems to me like they barely had enough material for just one sequel, but when that was a hit, they were forced into writing two more and had no direction to take the story.

by Anonymousreply 74October 24, 2021 6:04 PM

Sounds like it's been a tradition since Halloween 5.

by Anonymousreply 75October 24, 2021 7:26 PM

Ingeniously crafted storylines are the last thing you look for in a John Carpenter film.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 76October 24, 2021 7:33 PM

R75 We all know it’s not really going to be “the end”.

by Anonymousreply 77October 24, 2021 10:53 PM

R73 which would have been way before January 6th 2021, they did reshoots in early 2020 pre Covid, that was when that scene was shot

A year before 1/6/21

Get it ?

by Anonymousreply 78October 25, 2021 6:59 AM

There never should have been sequels after the first one but money talks.

by Anonymousreply 79October 25, 2021 7:54 AM

R78 is bound and determined to prove the hospital mob scene wasn't inspired by the January 6th events. Because she knows exactly when "principal production" on the movie ended. Sure, Jan.

by Anonymousreply 80October 25, 2021 11:48 AM

R80 listen you stupid retard, the film started filming on September 16th 2019 and ended filming in late October 2019, reshoots happened in January 2020 , the film was originally and ready to be released on October 2020 but COVID made them delay it for one year and the film sat for a year

Got it stupid fuck?

by Anonymousreply 81October 25, 2021 12:02 PM

R81 has the entire schedule of Halloween Kills in her handbag, so don't mess with her, because SHE KNOWS EVERYTHING.

by Anonymousreply 82October 25, 2021 12:05 PM

R81 Oh, look what the star has to say about Halloween Kills and January 6th. :-)

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 83October 25, 2021 12:06 PM

Somebody just got their face cracked and wig snatched

by Anonymousreply 84October 25, 2021 1:03 PM

R84 yeah but it was a coincidence, everyone knows the movie was shot and completed to be released by October 2020

They did ABSOLUTELY no filming in 2021

by Anonymousreply 85October 25, 2021 1:25 PM

R84 Owned by Jamie Lee Curtis herself. :-)

by Anonymousreply 86October 25, 2021 1:33 PM

John Carpenter is a horrible director. Most of his movies are dull, ugly, and borderline unwatchable. I just watched Prince of Darkness and it was awful dreck. This was released the same year as Hellraiser and Predator came out. Watch those and then watch PoD. His work is always amateur hour. Sure, Hellraiser was cheaply made but it's weird, scary, and interesting.

I think he's self-aware enough to have stepped back from directing...even though all of his contemporaries are still going strong.

by Anonymousreply 87October 25, 2021 1:45 PM

R87 Didn't you like Carpenter's version of "The Thing?" I thought that one was great.

by Anonymousreply 88October 25, 2021 1:57 PM

R87 Carpenter didn't direct Halloween Kills, though.

by Anonymousreply 89October 25, 2021 2:11 PM

The film shot new scenes a few months ago…

by Anonymousreply 90October 25, 2021 4:38 PM

Uh oh, R90. You're about to get Karen-ed by R81.

by Anonymousreply 91October 25, 2021 4:41 PM

If you actually read what she said in R83 she doesn't say that at all. The headline is purposely confusing. She said it's about mob violence-which, believe it or not, existed before January 6th. But, since you're so invested in believing what you want for some reason, stay stupid,.

by Anonymousreply 92October 25, 2021 5:15 PM

Oh, and look at a few more of their stories-no agenda on that site at all, nosiree.

by Anonymousreply 93October 25, 2021 5:19 PM

R92 digs her heels into her Karen-ness.

by Anonymousreply 94October 25, 2021 5:24 PM

Who cares why they did it? The bottom line is that it was dumb, uninteresting and didn’t belong in a Halloween movie.

by Anonymousreply 95October 25, 2021 7:08 PM

Source, R90?

by Anonymousreply 96October 25, 2021 7:15 PM

Didn’t it make like $14 million weekend 2? It had a big drop.

by Anonymousreply 97October 25, 2021 7:27 PM

Of course it had a big drop. It has such negative word of mouth from people who’ve seen it. Down like 80%. But because it was so cheap to make, with very little marketing necessary thanks to a brand that largely promotes itself among the horror community, it’s probably already turned a profit. Everything else coming in from here on out is gravy.

by Anonymousreply 98October 25, 2021 7:31 PM

Yes, bad word of mouth, and horror movies are known for huge drop offs

by Anonymousreply 99October 25, 2021 7:32 PM

[quote] Didn’t it make like $14 million weekend 2? It had a big drop.

by Anonymousreply 100October 25, 2021 7:34 PM

R90 the movie did not shoot any new scenes a few months ago

None whatsoever

Again, it’s been edited and completed since mid 2020, hence it’s original Halloween 2020 release date that was scheduled

You can’t be that fucking dumb

by Anonymousreply 101October 25, 2021 11:09 PM

R101 Karen is really Karen-ing tonight. She will NOT be contradicted and DEMANDS to speak to the manager of DL.

by Anonymousreply 102October 26, 2021 4:02 AM

R102 no bro because there is no proof or evidence that they show new scenes in 2021

Like I said, movie was finished , edited and scored and ready for release last October 2020

Everyone knows that dude

by Anonymousreply 103October 26, 2021 7:11 AM

But they took advantage of the delay and filmed new footage, and cut out old stuff r103.

by Anonymousreply 104October 26, 2021 10:25 AM

R104 source??

I find it hard to believe that they would shoot new footage over a year later during Covid no less

Everyone involved said the Captital Riot happening was a coincidence as it was already filmed in 2019

by Anonymousreply 105October 26, 2021 10:44 AM

Jamie Lee is so self aggrandizing when it comes to these shitty movies. Dropping terms like “trauma” and “angry mob” on the press tour. Bitch, these movies are stupid. The end. Now go eat another activia and promote that mentally ill trans child of yours for more woke pr points.

by Anonymousreply 106October 26, 2021 11:22 AM

R104 is always asking for "sources," but is never able to provide any of her own.

by Anonymousreply 107October 26, 2021 11:39 AM

This movie has just leaked on certain websites, but I'll wait until it comes on cable tv like I did with the 2018 one.

by Anonymousreply 108October 26, 2021 12:30 PM

R108 If you have Peacock, you can see it now for free.

by Anonymousreply 109October 26, 2021 12:33 PM

I doubt he even knows what Peacock is. Sounds like my grandmother still waiting for movies to “come on cable.”

by Anonymousreply 110October 26, 2021 1:43 PM

You have to pay for premium (Pea)cock to see it.

by Anonymousreply 111October 26, 2021 2:03 PM

There was no filming done in 2021 as much as someone on here wants to believe.

by Anonymousreply 112October 26, 2021 2:05 PM

We know dude

by Anonymousreply 113October 26, 2021 2:17 PM

R111 If you have Xfinity, it's free on Peacock. That's how I saw it.

by Anonymousreply 114October 26, 2021 2:48 PM

What I found totes fresh is that they ticked so many boxes I demand in a movie!!! Gay couple (check), interracial couple (check), male lead in a dress for whole movie (check), female lead in male clothes for whole movie (check), woman in traditionally male career, man in traditionally female career!! I almost orgasmed from wokeness!!!

by Anonymousreply 115October 26, 2021 4:06 PM

That was the safest, most mundane gay couple I’ve ever seen in my life. They worked hard to make sure they didn’t “gross out” the moronic frat bro audience, who are delighted by a person’s brains being splayed on a sidewalk and partial decapitations but truly horrified by intimacy between two men.

by Anonymousreply 116October 26, 2021 6:16 PM

R115 I mentioned all the same things on another thread and was relentlessly attacked by some queen who just couldn't believe that I would DARE mention that the producers deliberately tried to be "woke."

by Anonymousreply 117October 26, 2021 6:28 PM

R116 They also had to make sure the gay couple was dumb as a box of rocks so that when they got slaughtered, all the straight people could safely say to themselves, "Well, they deserved it" without having guilt about enjoying their murders on account of them being gay rather than idiotic.

by Anonymousreply 118October 26, 2021 6:30 PM

R116, I bet those guys are more like the average gay guy than what you envision as a typical gay guy
