Jesse Metcalfe Joins Dennis Quaid, Heather Graham in Faith-Based Drama ‘On a Wing and a Prayer’

Based on a true story, Quaid stars as Doug White, who’s forced to fly a plane after the pilot dies unexpectedly mid-flight.

The movie is the latest production from MGM’s Lightworkers — the company, founded by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, is behind “The Bible” miniseries and MGM and Paramount’s contemporary “Ben-Hur” adaptation. Downey will produce the movie alongside Autumn Bailey-Ford, with Burnett serving as an executive producer. Directed by Sean McNamara from a screenplay by Brian Egeston, “On a Wing and a Prayer” is currently in production and slated for release on Aug. 31, 2022.

After kicking off his career with heartthrob roles on “Passions,” “Desperate Housewives” and the 2006 hit teen comedy “John Tucker Must Die,” Metcalfe has found massive success on the family-friendly circuit and become a fan-favorite on Hallmark. In August, the actor wrapped up a five-season run on the network’s hugely popular drama “Chesapeake Shores,” where he’d played singer-songwriter Trace Riley since the show’s 2016 debut. Metcalfe also recently starred in and executive produced “Ships in the Night: A Martha’s Vineyard Mystery,” the latest installment in the “Martha’s Vineyard Mysteries” film series, and had a leading role in “Christmas Under the Stars,” opposite Autumn Reeser and Clarke Peters.

On the big screen, the actor recently reunited with Bruce Willis (with whom he starred in last year’s action-thriller “Hard Kill”) for Lionsgate’s “Fortress,” which will be released in December. Additional film credits include “Dead Rising: Endgame,” “Escape Plan 2: Hades,” “The Ninth Passenger” and “God’s Not Dead 2.” Metcalfe is represented by Untitled Management, Gersh and The Initiative Group.

Founded in 2011 by Emmy-nominated actor and producer Downey and Burnett, MGM’s Lightworkers is the banner behind numerous television series and films.

Anyone who works for Mark Burnett is DEAD to me.

Goodbye, Dennis Quaid, Heather Graham, and Jesse Metcalfe!

by Anonymousreply 1October 14, 2021 12:50 AM

Is he gonna show us his tits?

by Anonymousreply 2October 14, 2021 12:51 AM

Hes still fine as fuck. Hes going to be one of those that hits the wall at 50 but Im enjoying the view till then.

by Anonymousreply 3October 14, 2021 12:54 AM

Dennis Quaid is becoming the KING of religious fundie "faith-based" films.

When the fuck did that happen?

by Anonymousreply 4October 14, 2021 12:55 AM

^^^ He’s too nuts to land legitimate roles.

by Anonymousreply 5October 14, 2021 1:32 AM

I always heard that Heather was estranged from her parents because of their strict religious background but apparently they went on record in 2013 insisting it just ain’t so!

[quote] Jun 2, 2013 Heather Graham’s estranged parents have opened up about the bitter rift which wrecked their relationship with the star, insisting she cut them out of her life after making it big in Hollywood. The blonde beauty has made no secret of her feud with mum Joan and dad Jim Graham, who she claims never forgave her for her raunchy role as a porn star in 1997’s Boogie Nights because of their devout Catholic beliefs. She recently opened up about the rift again, saying, “Part of me longs to have a mum and dad who love and accept me for who I am, but, if they never do, it’s OK.”

[quote] Now her parents have finally spoken out to share their side of the story, insisting they have no problem with her choice of movie roles and are baffled by her continual claims they tried to make her become a nun.

[quote] In an interview with Britain’s The Sun, Jim Graham says, “Joan and I have endured many sleepless nights questioning how and why it all went wrong. To this day, we honestly don’t know… Every time we read these supposed reasons for why we are not part of Heather’s life, it gets more and more frustrating as they are simply not true. The Hollywood scene is so treacherous – it has ruined our family. “We did go to the movies to see it (Boogie Nights) and no, it wasn’t our thing, but we were proud of the part she played, as we are with all of her films. But we were never given the option to even voice our opinion as Heather simply didn’t ask. Time and time again we read in anything written about Heather that she was brought up in this ‘strict Catholic home’ and that’s just wrong… We’ve even seen writers claim we wanted Heather to be a nun. It’s just not true; we didn’t even send the girls to a Catholic school!

[quote]“Up until Boogie Nights we were a close, happy family. Then the movie came out and everything changed. It is safe to say that movie destroyed our relationship – that film is the anniversary of when Heather decided to take a break from us.”

[quote] And her parents insist the most upsetting part of the fall-out is that the star missed the deaths of her grandparents. Joan adds, “My mum passed away in 2008 and my dad in 1998. I know they hoped they would see Heather again. But sadly they didn’t – and now it is too late. Of course we left messages telling Heather they had passed, and a part of us hoped she would come to their funerals. But, for whatever reason, she didn’t. I can’t believe Heather is 43 now and we have had no place in her life for a long time. It is desperately sad.”

Dennis Quaid is a Repug, right?

At least that other wingnut Jon Voight can still land legit acting gigs despite being batshit insane. Quaid is a few steps away from doing a Left Behind film.

by Anonymousreply 7October 14, 2021 1:39 AM

Is the whole QUAID family nuts?

by Anonymousreply 8October 14, 2021 1:47 AM

Dennis Quaid made some comment last year that he thought Trump was handling the covid crisis well. His son Jack seems to hate Trump. Jack might be the only sane person in the Quaid family.

by Anonymousreply 9October 14, 2021 1:53 AM

Heather Graham seems be taking Mira Sorvino's path in doing faith based films.

by Anonymousreply 10October 14, 2021 1:53 AM

Jack Quaid is cute.

Why isn't he in more films?

I’m sorry, but Young Dennis Quaid was so hot, he gets a lifetime pass to do whatever he wants.

It’s disappointing that he’s a god-bothering idiot now (always?), but I would still lick his asshole.

What an original story - I've never seen something like this plot before.

But Jesse is beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 13October 14, 2021 2:07 AM

[quote] Is he gonna show us his tits?

That is the critical question. Are his tits as luscious as they used to be?

by Anonymousreply 14October 14, 2021 2:45 AM

R11, that's the hottest I've ever seen of Jack Quaid. He cleans up nicely. On "The Boys," he looks average as hell. While watching the show, you're shocked that he's the offspring of two good-looking parents.

by Anonymousreply 15October 14, 2021 3:22 AM

Is Jesse Metcalfe a born-again Christian? He seems to love doing Hallmark Channel and faith-based shlock. Also, Heather Graham started her career as a jailbait lolita and played slutty bad girls for a decade, weird change of pace.

by Anonymousreply 16November 25, 2021 6:29 PM

Damn, this motherfucker is aging like a bottle of fine wine. He gets hotter every time I see him.

by Anonymousreply 17November 25, 2021 6:32 PM

I don't have an issue with more wholesome entertainment as an option. I also wish more movies would explore faith, but not in the generic fundie way, which is the only way most of these producers want it to be done.

by Anonymousreply 18November 25, 2021 6:35 PM

R18 The issue is these movies tend to be awful, corny and preachy. They put the message before the quality of writing and acting. Zeffirelli and Scorsese had Christian films that elicited much controversy. They were also Catholic, so had a different perspective than Evangelical Protestants. Evangelicals don't want nuanced films with complexity, they want simplistic fire-and-brimstone and prosperity gospel tales with black-and-white characters.

by Anonymousreply 19November 25, 2021 6:38 PM

R19 exactly.

It's either anti abortion garbage and the like, or something that will bore the audience into a nap with its vague, sterile religiosity (God Friended Me).

by Anonymousreply 20November 25, 2021 6:42 PM

Fuck Mark Burnett. I blame him for everything.

by Anonymousreply 21November 25, 2021 6:45 PM

He's a very limited actor and he isn't a young pretty boy anymore, probably the only work he can get.

by Anonymousreply 22November 25, 2021 6:52 PM

So many former teen stars end up in Hallmark or Christian-themed movies. Like Jesse, Melissa Joan Hart, Jesse Metcalfe, Danica McKellar, Dean Cain, Joey Lawrence, etc. I get paying the bills but surely they can do better than Christian and Republican propaganda. A lot of these actors are deplorables.

by Anonymousreply 23November 25, 2021 6:57 PM

I read here that his titties are fake, did he get a boob job back in the day??

by Anonymousreply 24November 25, 2021 6:59 PM

"Faith based"? Hard pass.

by Anonymousreply 25November 25, 2021 7:09 PM

Christian entertainment: where struggling careers go to die.

by Anonymousreply 26November 25, 2021 8:35 PM

I like when actors who started out on wholesome stuff go to doing slutty roles. Like Eve Plumb, Jessica Biel, Elizabeth Berkley and Tiffani-Amber Thiessen.

by Anonymousreply 27November 26, 2021 12:02 AM

Will Jesse get to show off his pec implants in this?

Or too spicy for the hard-core right-wing Rethugs?

by Anonymousreply 28November 26, 2021 12:24 AM

^ If Dean Cain, Joey Lawrence and Anthony Sabato Jr are okay in Christian-based movies. Jesse should be too.

by Anonymousreply 29November 26, 2021 12:33 AM

I could stand Roma on Touched by an Angel.

by Anonymousreply 30November 26, 2021 12:43 AM

*could NOT

by Anonymousreply 31November 26, 2021 12:43 AM

Touched by An Angel actually got a lot of hate from Christian groups because it was more about love and tolerance. Less on judgment and self-righteousness. They even had an episode that paid tribute to AIDs victims and didn't condemn homosexuality at all. The portrayal of angels and God was more in line with the New Age side of things rather than Biblical.

by Anonymousreply 32November 26, 2021 12:45 AM

Jesse Metcalfe and Cash Warren are forever mixed up in my head. So when I see Jesse, I always think he's half-black.

by Anonymousreply 33November 26, 2021 1:01 AM

Heather Graham at one point had a very interesting career in the late 80s and 90s. She was an indie darling and did edgy roles. She was working with Gus Van Sant and David Lynch.

by Anonymousreply 34November 26, 2021 1:07 AM

Well, R32, by the time Roma Downey got around to doing The Bible miniseries with Burnett, they cast a President Obama lookalike as the Antichrist and then did a 'who, us?' when called out on it. They are both 100% trash, and he is a criminal, period.

The faith-based hacks love nothing better than to get some down-on-their-luck legitimate star (like Nicolas Cage) to grace their shit films. In the end, for all their crapping on Hollywood, they desperately want to hang with the popular kids.
