$7 for every pee sample that is clean - 3 times a week adds up to $330 in 12 weeks

Will this work?

by Anonymousreply 42October 13, 2021 10:44 PM

No, they'll cheat.

by Anonymousreply 1October 13, 2021 2:15 AM

They'll pay $2 for a clean sample and make a $5 profit. What does a meth baggie cost now?

by Anonymousreply 2October 13, 2021 2:15 AM

Why not try? What have they got to lose? If it doesn't work, cancel the program.

by Anonymousreply 3October 13, 2021 2:17 AM

Best idea since welfare.

by Anonymousreply 4October 13, 2021 2:18 AM

New business idea born . Sell your clean pee

by Anonymousreply 5October 13, 2021 2:19 AM

Where has this "pay people not to do bad things" idea come from? City administrators will really fall for anything.

by Anonymousreply 6October 13, 2021 2:22 AM

If the money that has been channelled into "drug wars" had been channelled into building rehab hospitals to which users and young low-level dealers could be sentenced instead of jails - places that not only get you off drugs but help you start to sort out the problems that got you there in the first place, and that maybe even help you get a job when you get out - the US would be much wealthier than it is, and millions of people's lives wouldn't have been ruined by getting prison terms early in their lives that mark them forever, both emotionally and on the job market.

The trouble is that physical, psychological and social rebuilding of individuals is always seen as "women's work", and is low paid and severely undervalued by the dicks who run capitalism.

by Anonymousreply 7October 13, 2021 2:25 AM

It’s a way of manipulating the reward censors in your brain. Replace the high with a new one. They need to make it - little higher and do it everyday to replace the habit. Reverse it actually

actually a neurological approach versus a social welfare approach.

by Anonymousreply 8October 13, 2021 2:26 AM

R6 probably from data which shows that dealing with the consequences of people doing bad things costs a hell of a lot more. For example there are plenty of studies which show that paying for housing for homeless people is much cheaper than paying for law enforcement costs associated with the problems caused by homeless people who are put on the streets. But people would rather pay millions every year to cover HIV medications for drug addicts than spend a fraction of that amount for clean needle exchange programs; they’d rather pay a fortune to lock up people in prison than a fraction of that cost to address poverty and other issues that lead people to criminal activity; they’d rather pay millions for policing and court costs associated with the homeless than pay a fraction of that amount for housing for the homeless.

by Anonymousreply 9October 13, 2021 2:31 AM

R1 Ya' think?

by Anonymousreply 10October 13, 2021 2:32 AM

The problem is that drug addiction isn't usually just a case of someone who took one wrong step and ended up addicted. It's much more usually someone self-medicating for undiagnosed or untreated mental illness, and until you deal with that it'll come out in another destructive way (which will also be expensive for society in the long run).

The neurological approach might work (agreed, you'd need more money and more often, though), but without follow-up the person just goes from a car-crash back to a car-crash waiting to happen.

by Anonymousreply 11October 13, 2021 2:32 AM

What about the rest of us with clean pee? What do we get?

by Anonymousreply 12October 13, 2021 2:34 AM

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..How dumb are they in California? Duh, addicts have been beating piss tests, breath tests since they started them. An addict being piss tested beats it. Hey Genius California politicians Wanna buy a bridege in NY?

Well, at least the market for Baby pee will hit an all time high. Been there done that. It's SUCH a rush to beat the piss test. Really makes your high that much sweeter, that getting over. Sick, sick sick..

Glad, I'm clean & sober & don't have to live like that anymore.

by Anonymousreply 13October 13, 2021 2:38 AM

R13 The way you write and think shows you took a lot of drugs.

by Anonymousreply 14October 13, 2021 2:44 AM

I did do a lot of drugs, but I'm as brain dead as the folk in California ( wait..I'm laughing too hard while trying to type) paying people not to use & think they can piss test them.

Oh, Dorothy, what a world, what a world! Guess there's a sucker elected every minute in California.

by Anonymousreply 15October 13, 2021 2:49 AM

[quote]What about the rest of us with clean pee? What do we get?

This is why the civilized nations hate you, America.

by Anonymousreply 16October 13, 2021 3:14 AM

A pees mint.

by Anonymousreply 17October 13, 2021 3:29 AM

R12 you sell your clean pee to a druggie

by Anonymousreply 18October 13, 2021 8:44 PM

Ok, I get part of this but how about making mental healthcare and healthcare in general, universal instead? How about free addiction treatment and counseling at safe houses for clean needle use and beds for those who need them? We will never cure the cycle of addiction without proper healthcare, mental healthcare and taking away the homelessness cycle that often goes with it.

Criminalizing drug use is stupid.

by Anonymousreply 19October 13, 2021 8:49 PM

[quote] We will never cure the cycle of addiction without proper healthcare, mental healthcare and taking away the homelessness cycle that often goes with it.

Mao did it with a combination of forced detoxification camps for users and one bullet to the back of the brain of every dealer they caught. it worked quite well.

by Anonymousreply 20October 13, 2021 8:53 PM

[quote] the reward censors in your brain.

Are these what bleep you if you say a bad word?

by Anonymousreply 21October 13, 2021 8:57 PM

What's to stop anyone from claiming addiction and getting in line to be paid for doing nothing more than showing up?

by Anonymousreply 22October 13, 2021 8:59 PM

R20 that's lovely. Lets just shoot people?

by Anonymousreply 23October 13, 2021 9:00 PM

Meanwhile Seattle decriminalizes magic mushrooms

by Anonymousreply 24October 13, 2021 9:02 PM

R22, I'd think someone would have to be the hardcore Granddaddy of Cheapskates to go through all that effort for $7 per sample.

by Anonymousreply 25October 13, 2021 9:03 PM

Fucking California.

by Anonymousreply 26October 13, 2021 9:05 PM

[quote]How about free addiction treatment and counseling at safe houses for clean needle use and beds for those who need them?

Because in America, people must be punished for their weaknesses.

by Anonymousreply 27October 13, 2021 9:22 PM

R27, this actual is people getting rewarded for their weaknesses. The people who aren't fucking addicts just get to pay for it. We're the suckers.

by Anonymousreply 28October 13, 2021 9:25 PM

You're paying a whole hell of a lot more for their punishment than you would for their treatment, R28.

by Anonymousreply 29October 13, 2021 9:26 PM

Not the Granddady of cheapskates, desperation, folks, desperation. You do have to pay for drugs in some way or wind up cut off & in the wonderful world of withdrawl, or like George Harrison or Chet Baker assaulted or killed as an example to those who have welched. Most Tweakers & other types of addicts aren't exactly investment bankers. Guess you don't know any. On the other hand, it's not always about $$$ It's also about the fun of fooling the powers that are doing the piss test. The get over is a whole other high.

There is a whole underground economic system in the drug world. Piss is usually bartered for, not paid for. Since in California you can boost(shoplift) to your hear's content, you tradestolen items for piss. In fact, if you are a skilled booster you take orders & that's what you steal. Or if someone owes you a favor, you exchange it for piss. Again, yes, been there done that. Thank God, not today. Being clea & sober is SOOO sweet, because you don't have to live like that anymore.

by Anonymousreply 30October 13, 2021 9:34 PM

R29, we should just let evolution work and let them kill themselves. The horrid society we now exist in is due to us letting every useless worthless human live and reproduce. I do not beleive that human life has inherent worth. That's religious bullshit at its finest. We'd be better off without the noncontributing dregs drowning the entire society in their death spiral. Ooh, I know, I'm just evil. Whatever. Truth hurts. Nature will win out in the end. The cost will either be the dregs or all of us.

by Anonymousreply 31October 13, 2021 9:42 PM

Careful, R31, somebody's going to decide that people without empathy are also dregs who should be allowed to fester and die.

by Anonymousreply 32October 13, 2021 9:44 PM

I've never known a serious addict who couldn't come up with $330 in 24 hours

by Anonymousreply 33October 13, 2021 9:44 PM

California is a fucking joke. Jesus Christ.

by Anonymousreply 34October 13, 2021 9:44 PM

[quote] $7 for every pee sample that is clean - 3 times a week adds up to $330 in 12 weeks

LOL! They can make that in one day panhandling sitting on a milk crate.

by Anonymousreply 35October 13, 2021 9:46 PM

[quote] Why not try? What have they got to lose?

Money, you fuckhead. Money that is desperately needed for real programs. Have you missed the homeless?

by Anonymousreply 36October 13, 2021 9:47 PM

So, can I just pretend to be an addict and piss in a cup for money?

by Anonymousreply 37October 13, 2021 9:51 PM

What's with all the people thinking a piss test is easy to scam? It's likely they'll watch them piss, meaning no, you can't just bring in a sample.

R37 obviously I don't know the details, but in NYS to get medical treatment for addiction, they don't just hand out suboxone or methadone because you say you're an addict. You start out giving a urine test to prove you have drugs in your system. And before anyone thinks you can just go take a pill for a day, drug tests are more advanced than showing a positive; they can see levels, last time taken, etc.

by Anonymousreply 38October 13, 2021 9:57 PM

Make all drugs legal, and close down half the jails, which are Covid factories, and start being a civilized society.

by Anonymousreply 39October 13, 2021 10:06 PM

Instead of making bad thing illegal and punishable, lets just give people money (your money) not to do bad things.

by Anonymousreply 40October 13, 2021 10:11 PM

Is piss watching a fetish? Someone has a perfect job waiting for them, even if they are druggies.

by Anonymousreply 41October 13, 2021 10:39 PM

R40 you must think taxpayers want to fund jail time for addiction issues. We don't. Jails in CA are already too full. Besides, jail for addicts just teaches them to be better addicts. It doesn't solve addiction or criminalization.
