Most "ex-gays" don't claim they can change their sexuality. Their goal is to control their same-sex sexual behavior, and maybe find a woman (likely a lesbian on the same path), and live a "normal" heterosexual existence. If someone wants to restrain from having sex with someone of the same sex and live a heterosexual lifestyle for public consumption, who is anyone to judge? It's very difficult for some people to reconcile their moral beliefs with their sexuality, especially those from a religious background. It's not a black and white issue.
