The Mysterious Death
of Brittany Murphy

New documentary on HBO.

ONCE A BELOVED RISING STAR, THE CLUELESS ACTRESS COLLAPSED AT HOME AT 32. A NEW DOCUMENTARY UNCOVERS CHILLING DETAILS AS QUESTIONS STILL SWIRL ALMOST 12 YEARS LATER

Why is it that almost every time a celebrity dies of something other than old age, there are always "unanswered questions" or "new details that are uncovered" that go on until the end of time?

by Anonymousreply 1October 9, 2021 2:50 AM

The Clueless Actress

by Anonymousreply 2October 9, 2021 3:05 AM

For a minute I thought "CLUELESS ACTRESS" was a value judgement.

by Anonymousreply 3October 9, 2021 3:17 AM

She was a talented brunette character actress trying to be a glamorous blonde leading lady. The cognitive dissonance from that was toxic. Had she leaned into her comedic gifts and not tried to be Gwyneth Paltrow, she'd be alive today and still working regularly. She might even have an Oscar or two on her mantlepiece.

by Anonymousreply 4October 9, 2021 3:27 AM

There was a something appealing about her, but I don’t think she was extremely “talented”. She wasn’t a brilliant comedienne, either. I put her in the same pile as Anna Faris or Lindsay Lohan.

There’s always a sentimental leveling-up when someone dies young.

by Anonymousreply 5October 9, 2021 3:34 AM

Another thread—about me?

Rollin’ with the homos.

by Anonymousreply 6October 9, 2021 3:41 AM

She could have been a modern day Shelley Winters, pulling her Oscars of out of her purse during acting seminars.

by Anonymousreply 7October 9, 2021 3:43 AM

She was a drug addict. It's not mysterious.

by Anonymousreply 8October 9, 2021 3:44 AM

People say that marrying Simon Monjack was her downfall but her career was on the slide before that.

I have to get my husband to re activate to HBO.

by Anonymousreply 11October 9, 2021 5:10 AM

would be interesting to see Sharon Murphy now I guess.

by Anonymousreply 12October 9, 2021 5:12 AM

R11 "re activate to HBO"

What?

by Anonymousreply 13October 9, 2021 5:14 AM

[quote]"re activate to HBO" What?

What he means is he'll have to suck his husband's cock and maybe even present hole, so that hubby will shell out the dough for premium cable.

by Anonymousreply 14October 9, 2021 5:17 AM

So does everybody get a documentary now? But I agree, she was a good character actress who forced herself to go the ingenue route with less than stellar results. She was pretty good in girl, interrupted and that forgettable movie with michael douglas where she played a psych patient. I thought she was pretty funny in that drew barrymore movie too.

by Anonymousreply 15October 9, 2021 5:21 AM

She was great in Clueless, Girl Interrupted, and Drop Dead Gorgeous. She was made to be a character actress. I understand why she'd want to give that up to try for A-list ingenue, but it's short-term thinking. A great character actress can work longer and arguably get more interesting work than your average leading lady. You don't have to starve yourself or fry your scalp with peroxide, either.

by Anonymousreply 16October 9, 2021 5:25 AM

The mom and the husband killed her and then lived in conjugal until she killed him too.

by Anonymousreply 17October 9, 2021 8:03 AM

In conjugal *bliss*, I meant. ^^

by Anonymousreply 18October 9, 2021 8:06 AM

I loved her best as Luanne Platter.

by Anonymousreply 19October 9, 2021 8:08 AM

Manger Babies!

by Anonymousreply 20October 9, 2021 8:20 AM

Bad batch of meth. Nothing to see here.

by Anonymousreply 21October 9, 2021 8:22 AM

Off topic, but I didn’t like her aggressive nose job. Took the character right out of her face.

Carry on.

by Anonymousreply 22October 9, 2021 8:28 AM

Murphy first caught notice by filmgoers when Cher was super-duper nice to her. She was great in Drop Dead Gorgeous. She showed her dramatic chops in Girl, Interrupted playing a deeply disturbed victim of sexual abuse. Jolie pulled focus in that movie, but Murphy left an impression. She then went viral with her line reading of "I'll never tell" in the Don't Say Word thriller, and just continued to show off her dramatic abilities in 8 Mile. It's rare for an actor to be able to excel at comedy and drama and Murphy could do both effortlessly. Perhaps as some have indicated here, she allowed herself to be shoe-horned into a leading lady wannabe (as it often happens when actresses achieve a degree of success and listen to those around them). It was a bad fit.

As much as I love Ana Faris, she never proved herself as a dramatic actress. As much as Lindsay Lohan had talent, she never graduated from child star and, as well, never proved herself as a dramatic actress. Were Murphy alive today, at 44, were she have to have gotten out of her toxic environment and around healthier people, she surely would have bounced back in character roles. We can't know for here. But, there was something fundamental sweet about her and she had a helluva lot of raw talent.

by Anonymousreply 23October 9, 2021 8:44 AM

R4 that’s exactly right (well except for probably that last sentence). And the drugs and starvation (and plastic surgery) that entailed - also trying to erase her entire ethnicity, basically - is what killed her.

by Anonymousreply 24October 9, 2021 9:02 AM

Pointless at this point I suppose, but here's the original thread if you're interested:

The mother poisoned them slowly with arsenic. All the signs are there. She was selling off her daughter’s shit online. They went to blame everything on her husband without explaining why he died five months later.

by Anonymousreply 26October 9, 2021 10:15 AM

I thought they were all on opiates?

by Anonymousreply 27October 9, 2021 10:33 AM

Surprisingly talented vocalist. That Oakenfold song is excellent. Reminds me of Holly Hunter sometimes. I miss her. Oh, yeah. The odd homeland security theory around her death was always strange. That Abby Elliott gal who imitated her on SNL was excellent. Perez Hilton just apologized for his piling on. The gossip surrounding her employment was pure Hollywood fodder. Loved King of the Hill.

by Anonymousreply 28October 9, 2021 11:02 AM

I’m pretty sure It was dirty, hard drugs that killed her and the family is withholding this because of the stigma attached to meth, heroine, and crack. The truth is enshrouding her death in mystery also keeps her catalog of movies valuable.

Most people overdose because their doctor withholds the refills and seeking alternatives, the strength and quality of street drugs vary wildly from batch to batch.

by Anonymousreply 29October 9, 2021 11:02 AM

another conspiracy theory is that Brittany and Simon were planning to move to New York because she wasn't getting the good parts in Hollywood anymore. But Sharon didn't want to go. However I think the simpler explanation is the truth. Brittany caught a cold on The Caller film shoot that she left and that developed into pneumonia. The delay in getting her treatment added to the counterproductive cocktail of prescription drugs she was taking is what killed her. Simon had been ill for a long time so it's not a surprise that he died soon after.

by Anonymousreply 30October 9, 2021 11:03 AM

I really liked her and thought she was very charming, appealing, and talented . A multifaceted actress as r23 points out. I'm wondering if the doc is going to add any new info or will it be one of those docuseries that just rehash stuff that's already been discussed.

by Anonymousreply 31October 9, 2021 11:21 AM

There’s nothing “mysterious” about her death and questions aren’t “swirling”.

Her autopsy has been available online for years. She had severe pneumonia, and was in a weakened state due to chronic anemia and was taking multiple prescription drugs.

by Anonymousreply 37October 9, 2021 3:32 PM

She was not only an amazing actress but a ray of sunshine. I miss her terribly.

by Anonymousreply 38October 9, 2021 8:02 PM

Hollywood chewed her up and spit her out.

by Anonymousreply 39October 10, 2021 2:58 PM

And killed her apparently

by Anonymousreply 40October 10, 2021 6:42 PM

“I’ll never tell” is one of the most annoying lines/line deliveries every delivered in movies.

Sue me but I never liked her as an actress. She had one note to play which was vulnerable and way too “needy” to be in any way appealing. You’re not supposed to show all your cards all the time.

by Anonymousreply 41October 10, 2021 7:13 PM

Her death has always bothered me. Not in the sense that there was foul play but because it was so preventable. Brittany Murphy was a very good actress, much better than she was ever given credit for. I miss her terribly.

by Anonymousreply 42October 10, 2021 7:31 PM

She was a great actress by at the time of her death, it was over.

The 2000’s kind of sucked for actresses at her age and career span, she could only make bad romantic comedies or shitty psychological horror movies.

TV and movies got much better in the 2010’s and there was a lot of material available again for actresses like her.

I think she’d have been able to have found a TV series that would have revived her career.

by Anonymousreply 43October 10, 2021 7:37 PM

[quote] She ended up looking a lot like Nicole Ritchie towards the end, didn't she?

More like the Crypt Keeper.

Then again, I guess that depends on what your definition of “the end” is.

by Anonymousreply 44October 10, 2021 7:38 PM

She was poisoned by her mother and so was her husband just a few months later. They both died of exactly the same thing whilst the much older mother survived and took Brittany's money.

[quote]The mother poisoned them slowly with arsenic.

No discussion now that it out, that seems weird?

by Anonymousreply 47October 14, 2021 5:24 PM

Ugh, Simon is such a gross, disgusting individual that it skeeves me out to look at pictures and videos of him, really a truly repulsive person. And that mother is so whacked out of her mind, with such a twisted mask like face and her emotions seem to be running the in all different directions simultaneously. These are scary, scary people and I feel I need to take a shower after watching them.

by Anonymousreply 48October 14, 2021 5:38 PM

I’m a bit frustrated by all the continuous insertions of film clips without any attribution and how they are interspliced in a salacious manner. She must have a much larger body of work then I ever recognized. That girl was seemingly worked to death, and probably died just to get some rest and not be a cash cow for the people around her, and at the top of the list her mother and husband.

by Anonymousreply 49October 14, 2021 5:41 PM

Some DL poster indicated that they met Brittany, the husband & the mother (something involving dogs); anyway, for whatever it's worth, the poster said she was very fragile, whacked out & seemingly escorted around by the mother & the husband. As others have noted, she clearly wasn't a well person (whatever her issues were) so her death wasn't really that big of a surprise. But she probably could've had a career revival playing someone's wacky aunt or neighbor

by Anonymousreply 50October 14, 2021 5:47 PM

They found 90 (ninety!) prescription bottles on the husband’s nightstand, under various aliases. It’s a wonder they both didn’t die sooner. She was severely anemic, and had advanced pneumonia, why do people not go to hospitals???

by Anonymousreply 51October 14, 2021 5:50 PM

She really was one of the most promising actors of her generation and had that rare ability to be great even in lesser films. Not many actors can transcend shitty material, but she could and proved it many times. When she was given really great material like in Clueless, Girl Interrupted, or Drop Dead Gorgeous she really shined.

by Anonymousreply 52October 14, 2021 5:55 PM

I’m a bit frustrated that there are insertions of makeup youtubers who are carrying elements of the documentary and I’m not even sure if these are period videos or some talking heads that were inserted to provide this perspective of the narrative. And how weird is it that the head of a fan club for her becomes very close friends with her absentee father? And Perez Hilton, no, just no. Once there were ethical and journalistic standards for inclusion in documentaries, but it doesn’t seem to be applicable anymore.

by Anonymousreply 53October 14, 2021 6:26 PM

Many years ago, right after her death, they interviewed this guy on the local morning radio show in the bay area who claimed to be the couple's butler or house manager or something like that. He said the prescription drug abuse was wayyyy out of control - including the husband and mother.

by Anonymousreply 54October 14, 2021 6:40 PM

Is that it, two episodes? Brittany deserved so much better then this. It may have had high productions values, and be on HBO, but this was schlock pure and simple. And Perez Hilton should be forbidden to have any access to media and should be in hiding, fearing for being dragged into the streets and tarred and feathered. He is a vile human being.

by Anonymousreply 55October 14, 2021 6:44 PM

Will be watching. That mother is a piece of work, as is the shady manager.

Agree about the loathesome Perez Hilton who I rarely see anymore. thank god.

by Anonymousreply 56October 14, 2021 6:51 PM

I remember seeing her in Girl, Interrupted having not seen her in anything since Clueless and being shocked by how thin she had gotten, as she wasn't really heavy to begin with. As others have mentioned, she clearly got it into her head that she needed to be rail thin (and blonde) to make it in the business and her subsequent success in Girl, Interrupted, 8 Mile, etc. didn't help the situation.

by Anonymousreply 57October 14, 2021 7:25 PM

"When I come home, Molly Smilesssss..."

If you know this lyric, you are more than a passing fan. "Little Black Book" too where she is opposite the aforementioned Holly Hunter. She was a great comedienne with a lot going on in every scene and I adored her and her work. Made it look easy but she was pure talent.

Luanne Platter was all hers, especially the great growl on "Maaaaanger Babies". She was rumored to star in a Janis Joplin biopic too at her peak. Watch her deleted scene in the lunchroom in "Girl, Interrupted" with her weird chicken neck thing and you will see how unique she was.

by Anonymousreply 60October 14, 2021 7:44 PM

It was heart breaking seeing this. Nothing really new was presented (except for Perez Hilton's ugly, talking mug) but it just reminds you of how special she was. I wish that "intervention" would have been a success. She was probably already being drugged at that time and it was too late. I really want to know why she became so smitten with that slob in the first place.

by Anonymousreply 61October 14, 2021 7:48 PM

R61 That "slob" was plying her with as many drugs as she could swallow. She was too whacked to see him for the fugly piece of shit he was. Probably some daddy issues thrown in the mix too.

by Anonymousreply 62October 14, 2021 8:11 PM

So they interview people who do makeup tutorials and Perez Hilton for this? Really?

by Anonymousreply 63October 14, 2021 8:21 PM

The documentary was a tawdry embarrassment that seemed like they ran out of time and money. Never got Sharon Murphy to talk. Simon Monjack's mother is on camera but she was a complete liar. A lot of footage about how talented she was, what a scum Simon was and she really did die of pneumonia and anemia.

Could have been cut into one episode.

by Anonymousreply 64October 14, 2021 8:51 PM

Would it kill you to capitalize proper nouns, R15?

by Anonymousreply 65October 14, 2021 9:20 PM

Hell, I’d be happy if he capitalized improper ones, too.

by Anonymousreply 66October 14, 2021 9:32 PM

Perez was disgusting, with a contrite yet a non apologetic “sorry not sorry” attitude. The three girls applying makeup were just gross and display the tawdriness of their generation that pushes their own narrative in the interest of making money, or crying “the autopsy was faked” when they hear what they don’t want to hear. One of them looked like a myopic doctor injected a jumbo shrimp under her top lip.

It was sad, unnerving, and honestly I blame her manager for not sitting her down and explaining how people would come prey on her after she became famous and what to be aware of. I blame Ashton for his breathless, ethereal beauty at the time- that swept her in then dumped her and came up with a story for the tabloids that it was a consensual breakup. I saw him at Fashion Week that year and wow he was a cutie.

Lastly I blame the mom, she was the ultimate helicopter mom that got caught up in her own rotor blades of helicoptering and living with her and not following her daughter’s money and confirming the investments made. At the very least hire a lawyer to vet all the transactions he made!

by Anonymousreply 67October 14, 2021 11:18 PM

Sharon was a totally smother type. My friend was married to a woman whose mother was a total smother type. He hated how his ex-wife refused to put up boundaries with his mother and he divorced in part because of that.

by Anonymousreply 68October 15, 2021 2:10 AM

I find Simon Monjack oddly sexy. I have a feeling that's just me.

by Anonymousreply 69October 15, 2021 2:31 AM

OP, I've seen many a typo in my life, but how in the world did you accidentally insert a "L SEP" in a dashed square in your title?

by Anonymousreply 70October 15, 2021 2:32 AM

Hard to believe this is the same cursed house - or at least sits on the land. Wonder if they found mold during the remodel.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 71October 15, 2021 4:14 PM

The documentary wasn't great, but worth watching, imo.

I thought it was laughable that the talking heads think it's different today from the early 2000s where a leading lady had to be blonde and thin. There is a greater range today, for sure, but there is still pressure to be thin. It was appalling that Howard Stern (of all people) called her "fat and ugly" after seeing her in Clueless. She was never fat, or ugly!

If you go to Simon Monjack's Wikipedia page, it's completely whitewashed. He was a sociopathic grifter, and he didn't take Brittany (or himself) to the hospital because then all of his lies would be revealed. Brittany met him at a low point in her life, both professionally and personally. I just don't understand why women, especially wealthy women, don't do more work in vetting potential romantic partners. If she had lived, he would have drained her bank accounts (he had spent $3 million of her money in three years) then move on to his next mark.

by Anonymousreply 72October 22, 2021 1:27 AM

🎼“I’ll never tell”🎼

by Anonymousreply 73October 22, 2021 1:51 AM

Anyone know about the life insurance policy she took out two years before she died? I can't find the amount or the beneficiary, it must have been Sharon. She was worth $10,000,000 when she died and once the IRS gets their cut, what's left isn't much by Hollywood standards.

by Anonymousreply 74October 22, 2021 2:33 AM

R71 The old house was demolished so there was no remodel or need to look for mold at that point.

by Anonymousreply 75October 22, 2021 2:41 AM

[quote]The documentary wasn't great, but worth watching, imo.

I thought it was really good, especially the behind the scenes footage of her fucked up and not being able to remember her lines while filming a movie. I also liked the interview with Simon’s ex and hearing how he treated her exactly the same.

What were you expecting?

by Anonymousreply 76October 22, 2021 2:44 AM

I don't know, that autopsy report had a vibe of "nothing to see here folks, move along" for the most part. No history of drug abuse? Excuse me? Just about everything evaluated came up normal, sorry, "unremarkable". For someone who did have a history of drug abuse and starving herself to Nicole Richie levels, you would think that would leave some kind of internal mark.

My sister in law has elevator from The Shining level periods (that she can't keep to herself unfortunately, ugh), but she's not that weak from them, as in falling down in the bathroom weak. If it seems hinky, trust your gut, and this was some hinky shit. That said, pneumonia is quite the killer. Murphy may have refused (or was blocked from) going to the hospital due to fear of it getting leaked she liked her dolls (at the very least). I still think Sharon is guilty. If not of direct poisoning, then willful neglect. Maybe a combo platter. There is indeed a Flowers in the Attic feel to this thing.

by Anonymousreply 77October 22, 2021 2:45 AM

[quote] I love that movie and I am a dude

Glad I’m not the only one.

by Anonymousreply 78October 22, 2021 2:51 AM

I guess I’m the only person who didn’t really care for Murphy. (SHE DIDNT DESERVE TO DIE). She seemed like a weak, approval-seeking neurotic mess. People painted her as some kind of manic pixie dream girl but I think she was a codependent wreck. Some other actress said that Murphy wrote her a letter full of over-the-top compliments. That would be a huge red flag for me, but this woman just loooved it.

Someone says that she didn’t know how to deal with bad people because she didn’t go to a regular high school. That’s baloney. Sure, you learn valuable social lessons in HS, but you can cut your teeth on a Hollywood set just as well. She was friends with Kirsten Drunkst and then what? Did they fall out?

by Anonymousreply 79October 22, 2021 2:56 AM

r79 Dunst got off the sauce (and whatever else), and straightened up and Murphy got very, very, VERY messy is my guess.

by Anonymousreply 80October 22, 2021 3:01 AM

Damn. Monjack was a bigger parasite than I realised. His mother has gaslit herself. She doesn't go as far as victim-blame, but she has a very selective interpretation of the facts. I suppose that's because she comes from the very specific position as his mother. I get why Sharon didn't speak to the filmmakers. Doesn't seem like she needed to say anything. The story was all there. Sad. Interesting that both Murphy and Monjack had no father figures present throughout all of their childhood.

The doco is quite informative. There is a lot I didn't know. I feel like the story has now been told. The Perez Hilton material was appropriately used, but watching him made me feel gross. The series has a warning for those who suffer from photosensitive epilepsy, but should also have one for those who vomit at the sight of Hilton. It wouldn't have surprised me if he had been a DLer back in the day. His sick gallows humour back then looks like child's play to what we see on here today.

I can see why some here are bothered by the style of splicing in her film work to tell her personal narrative like she is speaking from the grave. For the most part, I found the movie clips worked, as there was a grey area between her art and her life, and, as an audience, we only know her as the actress. I wasn't as bothered. The TrueCrime YouTubers were an interesting angle I had not seen before, and can only work once (I'm not sure if that was borrowed or original). It really goes to show--just as we're now seeing with the Gabby Petito/Brian Laundrie case where people were imagining him and his parents to be these criminal masterminds who helped him escape to the Appalachian Trail (as I was guilty of a little bit when the story first broke)--time really needs to play out and the facts needs to tell the story (although, I don't know why it had to take twelve years).

Murphy was talented, sweet, and hardworking. She didn't have a hard shell and the very vulnerability that made her a star was also her downfall. She let the industry tap into her insecurities, and she fell prey to body dysmorphia, anorexia, plastic surgery, drugs, all exacerbated by negative media attention. She had gotten to a very dark place (like some do) and Monjack appeared at just the right time to take full advantage of her, and she (and her mother) let him. It's so sad, because she really did have something special, but perhaps she was only meant to shine her light for so long.

My favourite part was the footage of her at 13, like a boss, taking the microphone and interviewing the other kids. She had a genuinely infectious and outgoing personality without being obnoxious, that was rare.

by Anonymousreply 81October 23, 2021 4:01 AM

Sounds like they caught a bug while in Puerto Rico....

by Anonymousreply 82October 25, 2021 2:56 PM

They wanted this to become the next Britney thing. Nope. Didn't go anywhere.

by Anonymousreply 83October 25, 2021 3:02 PM

There's not much of interest in the doc. She had many problems, for sure, and Simon was clearly some kind of golddigger. But he didn't kill her. She died of severe anemia, coupled with a viral infection and frankly, starvation. He didn't get her the proper medical attention.

She died mostly of celebrititis.

by Anonymousreply 84October 25, 2021 3:02 PM

With reference to the Is Drama Training Worthwhile argument, Brittany Murphy turned up in Season 1 of Frasier as a middle school drama student.

She could act very well. No, she wasn’t Meryl Streep but she was better than 9/10 actresses, easily.

by Anonymousreply 85October 25, 2021 3:06 PM

[quote]I’m a bit frustrated that there are insertions of makeup YouTubers

I kept wondering, "Why should I care what these ugly nobodies say?"

by Anonymousreply 86October 25, 2021 4:28 PM

There's also nothing to attach a scandal to, really. Brittany is long dead, and so is her husband. Without a living victim or potential perpetrator, it's just not that interesting.

Britney Spears or Natalie Wood this ain't.

by Anonymousreply 87October 25, 2021 9:30 PM

It was a reminder of what an odious cretin Howard Stern is.

by Anonymousreply 88October 25, 2021 9:39 PM

She really wasn't all that talented.

by Anonymousreply 89October 25, 2021 9:43 PM

She did a TV movie with Joe Penny and Teri Garr in the 90's, where she played a lonely free spirit who hooked up with married cop Penny who kills her after she becomes pregnant, has his child and wants him to step up Teri plays the doormat wife who slowly comes to the conclusion that her husband is a murderer.

by Anonymousreply 90October 25, 2021 9:51 PM

She was so adorable in Clueless. Not ugly and not fat.

by Anonymousreply 91October 25, 2021 9:54 PM

Her "You're a virgin who can't drive" line-reading in Clueless is a landmark in line-readings.

by Anonymousreply 92October 26, 2021 12:18 AM

That was way harsh, Tai

by Anonymousreply 93October 26, 2021 7:52 AM

Does the doc go into Simon's death? What killed him?

by Anonymousreply 94October 26, 2021 8:28 AM

Reading the comments makes me again realize how superior Clueless is compared to Mean Girls. And it came first. But what do I see on cable all weekend, every weekend? The latter, and the former is never shown anymore.

by Anonymousreply 95October 26, 2021 8:45 AM

Because Clueless is more of an Xer film and Mean Girls is a Millennial film, I presume. Of course, the mother of these two films, Heathers, is never shown.

by Anonymousreply 96October 26, 2021 9:15 AM

But there's only 9 years between the two films - that's not enough to indicate 2 different generations...

Heathers is never shown because the scenario of HS students killing each other is now all too common; but I agree that it's a superior movie to the other two & captures the high school caste system perfectly. Clueless was brilliant, but I thought Mean Girls was overrated

Fuck me gently with a chainsaw!

That Faster Pussycat song, I like the production, and Brittany's vocal is fine, but the song doesn't have a good melody, or hook. It starts to hint that it may venture into another Toxic, but doesn't deliver.

I love Clueless. Mean Girls is okay. There really hasn't been anything since that has been anywhere near Mean Girls-level. I guess it has all been done.

I agree that Heathers is the mother of Clueless/Mean Girls, but it owes a lot to its grandmother, Carrie!

This doc creeped me out. I don’t know much about Britanny’s work or persona, but I felt creepy after watching a tragedy unfold like that. The same creepy feeling I got watching HBOs There’s Something Wrong With Aunt Diane. Just skeeves me out.

by Anonymousreply 102October 26, 2021 11:25 AM

R21 That's what I got from a doc about her death that I watched 10 years ago. Either meth or too much coke.

by Anonymousreply 103October 26, 2021 11:40 AM

Just another exploitative documentary. I don’t need to know what moron youtube assholes think. It’s like putting in QAnon shit in. I love how the doc states firmly that Murphy’s mother Sharon won’t answer her phone or respond to email. More like she refused this exploitative “documentary” of her long dead daughter. I’m sure she responds to phone calls and email not from greedy fuckfaces who use her and her daughter for gain.

Mean Girls is shockingly accurate about teenage girl group dynamics, which isn't surprising since it's based on a sociology book.

by Anonymousreply 105October 26, 2021 3:16 PM

There really hasn't been a great teen movie since Mean Girls. Maybe because people are too scared to show teenagers behaving the way they actually do. If they drink and party, the film would be championing underage drinking. If they have sex, the filmmakers are pedophiles who get off on underage people fucking (even if the roles are cast with 26 year olds). If they get violent or say mean things to each other, the filmmakers are championing that as well. You can't win these days. Everyone is supposed to be pleasant to one another and avoid conflict - the very thing great stories are supposed to be full of.

[quote]She really wasn't all that talented.

You can say a lot of things about her, but to say she “wasn’t all that talented” is bullshit. She was a very good actress and could do both comedy and drama very well. She was better than the majority of these little starlets today.

by Anonymousreply 107October 27, 2021 2:50 AM

All these trashy YouTubers in this doc. Ew. It really cheapened everything…spouting their dumb conspiracy theories while they did makeup tutorials. Meanwhile, Taryn Manning is shot through gauze during her interview like Joan Van Ark in her last season on Knots.

by Anonymousreply 108October 27, 2021 3:21 AM

Nah, I'll take Larry Clark's "Bully" over "Mean Girls' any day.

by Anonymousreply 109October 27, 2021 7:38 PM

Taryn Manning and Kathy Najimi was all they could get? None of the Clueless cast?

“I’ll cut the bitch, if I have to!!!”.

Feminism be damned, women will never learn to have the backs of other females when it comes down to it.

by Anonymousreply 111October 28, 2021 12:26 PM

That’s what I didn’t get, R108 - the YouTubers and their fucking makeup tutorials. This whole thing is just so weird. I loved Brittany, and she’s gone way too soon.

by Anonymousreply 112November 21, 2021 10:35 AM

She was extremely talented.

by Anonymousreply 113November 21, 2021 10:51 AM

So, Brittany was needy and wanted a father figure, and Simon was in the market for a sugar mama, so gladly took over and isolated her from everyone and everything. Brittany was anemic because she didn’t eat. They both liked their prescription drugs. They were both exposed to mold that maybe caused pneumonia-like illness. I don’t think there’s much of a mystery surrounding either of their deaths.

"I'll never telllllll"

by Anonymousreply 115November 21, 2021 11:20 AM

Ashton Kutcher destroyed another woman.

by Anonymousreply 116November 21, 2021 11:22 AM

Could this be the reason Brittany was murdered. Can’t you feel the love between these two?

I'll take Jawbreaker over Mean Girls any day.

by Anonymousreply 118November 21, 2021 12:10 PM

Lookswise I always thought of her as being the same type as Mira Sorvino - a dark, moderately attractive Italian girl straining to be a hot blonde. She did have a sparkle though.

by Anonymousreply 119November 21, 2021 12:22 PM

That guy is fucking creepy and gross. They should have checked poor Britanny into a psyche ward if she was fucking that ugly asshole. Ewwww!

by Anonymousreply 120November 21, 2021 12:28 PM

No, she wasn't "talented" in the least.

Vast majority of her work was nothing but pratfalls and getting injured.

by Anonymousreply 121November 21, 2021 12:37 PM

Come on, R121. You can’t deny she was talented. All you need to do is watch Girl, Interrupted to know that.

by Anonymousreply 122November 21, 2021 12:44 PM

I forgot that Elisabeth Moss was in Girl, Interrupted. She is not a great beauty either but has done well for herself.

by Anonymousreply 123November 21, 2021 1:03 PM

What about the Mob, the CIA and MK Ultra?

by Anonymousreply 124November 21, 2021 4:37 PM

Thought this was a good documentary, interesting anyway. If the mother poisoned the two, aside from a dated wardrobe she didn't get much bc of Monjack spending it all; he was like a minor league Madoff. How the hell he hid TWO bastard children in the 2000s I'm still marveling at. I'm genuinely surprised her fired representation would've had a PI who'd have turned that up and used it to start chiseling them apart?

I'm really not on board with the conspiracies, a sociopath drugged and manipulated until his exposure was at risk, he locked down, it was more negligible homicide than pneumonia. I also don't buy him being drugged. He was too much of a control freak to not die by his own design.

I'd like to know more about her before the fat grease ball.
