Have you lived in or visited Taos? It looks like such a beautiful place. When we were on our honeymoon on Maui the skipper on the boat we were on said she was leaving Maui and moving to Taos because it was the most beautiful place ever. I have never been but want to visit at some point. What is Taos like? What do you like about it?

It's like Santa Fe, only smaller.

I've been there--it's paradise.
But I've never been to me.

Great if you are wealthy or retired. Lots of knick knack and beautiful vistas

In Taos all seems to breathe freedom and peace and to make one forget the world and its sad turmoils.

Go see the Earthship Homes! Downtown is fun to walk around see the shops. There was a good bean to bar chocolate place. Served a nice hot chocolate on a chilly November afternoon. Santa Fe about an hour and a half south of a scenic 2 lane road winding through the mountains.

Beautiful countryside, pity about the touristy shops. If you must go, be sure to take the back road from Santa Fe and stop in Chimayo for some nice woven goods and peek at the Crutch Room at El Santuario de Chimayo.

It's a beautiful area but so are many areas in New Mexico. I enjoyed my visit but I wouldn't care to live there. Too dry and dusty for my taste and it gets very cold in the winter months.

It's like Santa Fe if Santa Fe is parked on cinder blocks in your front yard.

It's pretty but very small and way too many tourists.

Are you sure you don't mean Tacos, Norway?

I had to leave. There's this infernal hum, almost like a big rig way in the distance approaching to run you down but it's incessant, maddening. they say there's no devil, but there is, right out of hell, I've heard it.

Donald Rumsfeld, former Taos resident, died not long ago. I'm sure it's safe to return now.

Provincetown with dirt instead of water.

There's less there than meets the eye.

Cross the mountains eastward OP and check out Angel Fire. It’s a small town, but beautiful terrain. I spent the better part of a week there one summer, sitting at the airport on call for a job. It was extremely quiet; surrounded by high mountaintops there was no way to feel peaceful and separate from the world. If I didn’t know I was in New Mexico, I would’ve thought I was in the Alps.

If you move there you can have coffee with Linda May from Nomadland.

I hope you don't enjoy gay sex...because there's precious little to be found. (Anywhere in NM.) If you dig nature, history, and good food, it's pretty cool.

It was pretty but very, very small. My partner and I were thinking about moving to Taos 12 years ago or so. He was working from home at the time and we would have been able to support ourselves on one income (which is good because there is nothing out there work wise).
While Taos is known for its very small art scene, I was much more impressed with Albuquerque (or Albuquirky as it's affectionately called by some) which is a college town and has a litte more to offer interest wise. Santa Fe is nice too as it is quite beautiful and has some good little museums and restaurants.
Taos is a great place to visit but unless you like living in the middle of nowhere, probably not the best place to move.

Full of retired elder folks selling their "art" to each other and to any tourist willing to open the old wallet.

A colleague (sort of a douche) described it as being like an expat community—small with surprising mixes of people at social functions. He knew Rummy slightly from that sort of the social circle. Having been an expat, it sounded dreadful. At least in a foreign country, you might get to know some locals.
