ZODIAC KILLER FINALLY IDENTIFIED!!!

“A team of specialists who investigate cold cases says it has identified the Zodiac Killer, one of America's most prolific serial murderers who terrorized communities in the San Francisco area in the late 1960s with a series of brutal slayings and unsolvable riddles”

Don’t they have his DNA to test from the stamps on the letters? Don’t wake me until they announce a match.

by Anonymousreply 4October 6, 2021 6:42 PM

Man, so many retarded comments on Twitter from young people. Many comments like "the police didn't catch him because he was white, dats racist". No you stupid whores, it was because it was the '60s, forensic pathology was still in its infancy, and serial killers were a relatively new phenomenon. People shouldn't be allowed to speak in public forums until they're 30. Sew every zoomer's mouth shut.

by Anonymousreply 5October 6, 2021 6:52 PM

R5 And I bet a lot of them don't even know about The Doodler, the guy killing gay men around the same time in SF, was a black man who was also never caught. You can't apply modern racial tension logic to things that happened 60 years ago, but they don't understand that.

by Anonymousreply 6October 6, 2021 6:56 PM

Also, the group making these claims has some pretty flimsy evidence. For example, they haven't compared Poste's DNA to the sample from the letters. They also claim the scars on Poste's face match the police sketch, but the original witnesses never said they were scars, just forehead lines. Finally, they say a boot print matches a pair of boots Poste owned. However, that same print could be from 3-4 different types of boots/shoes available at the time. Their evidence is flimsy and similar to other "suspects" we've seen over the years.

That said, the only real suspect is Richard Gaikowski.

I thought it had to be Arthur Leigh Allen, according to David Fincher.

by Anonymousreply 8October 6, 2021 7:12 PM

by Anonymousreply 9October 6, 2021 7:12 PM

This sounds like clickbait.

by Anonymousreply 10October 6, 2021 7:22 PM

This man is not the Zodiac Killer. I don't believe it.

by Anonymousreply 11October 6, 2021 7:23 PM

So the result is a bunch of "specialists" once again connecting a Zodiac suspect with a murder he had been associated with and then declaring that he WAS the Zodiac, as people already suspected?

Oh. A book. Of course.

by Anonymousreply 12October 6, 2021 7:27 PM

[quote] That said, the only real suspect is Richard Gaikowski.

Amen.

Weren't the Zodiac's "Wingwalker" boots a standard military issue boot? Not exactly surprising if someone else owned a pair.

Puleeze.

Just ANOTHER suspect some team of obsessed serial murder fans glommed onto.

I did a deep dive many years ago into Zodiac and it was fun but these people - so called experts - are usually fame seeking blowhards. They get very territorially and start smearing each other if anyone dares to call them or their "findings" into question. Some of them are out and out charlatans.

So far I am very skeptical but it should be fun to once again enter the crazy world of the Zodiac hunters.

by Anonymousreply 21October 6, 2021 8:47 PM

Michael Myers did it.

by Anonymousreply 22October 6, 2021 9:09 PM

So, the evidence for Gaikowski is an old lady’s memory of a voice she had heard once 40 years earlier and the anonymous source who says Gaikowski knew things only the killer would know. How does the source confirm these things only the killer would know?

by Anonymousreply 23October 6, 2021 9:21 PM

R5 is just looking to bash young people. I bet the elderly Trumpsters who are reading this Fox News article probably believe lots of stupid things

by Anonymousreply 24October 6, 2021 9:27 PM

R21, the Zodiac nuts remind me of the people who come out of the woodwork every few years to accuse some dead, famous Victorian guy of being Jack the Ripper.

If he's ever identified, I bet it will be someone who was never considered a suspect, like the Golden State Killer or BTK

by Anonymousreply 25October 6, 2021 9:30 PM

Did they finally arrest Mitt Romney?

by Anonymousreply 26October 6, 2021 9:47 PM

R8, Fincher made a very compelling film, but Zodiac obsessives do not find Graysmith credible, and the film fabricates some of the evidence, such as it is, against Allen. The film vs. reality discussions are their own internet rabbit hole.

Who was Gary Francis Poste? He reportedly had a wife and at least one son.

The man named by the Case Breakers was married to Mary Poste, and had at least one son. He reportedly worked for years as a house painter after serving time in the United States Air Force. He lived in Groveland, Calif.

In 2016, Poste was arrested for domestic battery against his wife. A mugshot was taken following his arrest, which has been circulating online.

Poste's widow is currently residing in an assisted living facility, according to The Daily Mail.

Other details about Poste's personal life are currently unknown to the public.

Gary Francis Poste died at the age of 80 in 2018.

According to a death certificate obtained by TMZ, Gary Poste passed away in August 2018 from vascular dementia, sepsis, septic shock, and dysphagia.

The certificate also reportedly noted that Poste was suffering from osteoporosis, atrial fibrillation, hypertension, and hypothyroidism at the time of his death.

The 80-year-old died in Groveland, and it is important to note that he was never charged with any of the crimes related to the Zodiac killer.

Tom Voigt, one of the foremost experts on the case, who also runs the zodiackiller.com website, gave this interview to Rolling Stone last night.

[quote] ‘Hot Garbage’: Zodiac Expert Calls ‘Bullshit’ on Possible ID of Infamous Serial Killer

[quote]Zodiac Killer: Just the Facts author Tom Voigt tells us why the new report about Zodiac Killer’s identity is “completely bogus”

[quote]Despite what you may have read today in the news, the Zodiac Killer has not been identified. That’s according to an expert on the infamous, still-unknown serial killer who murdered at least five people in northern California in the late-Sixties.

[quote] Earlier today, a team of cold case investigators announced, via press release, that a now-deceased man named Gary Francis Poste was the Zodiac Killer. Among the evidence: a furrowed brow on the sketch artist’s drawing that matches Poste’s forehead scarring; an allegation that one of the Zodiac’s mysterious ciphers could be unlocked using Poste’s full name; and claims that Poste perhaps killed a waitress named Cheri Jo Bates, an assumed-but-not-definite Zodiac victim.

[quote]The story was picked up by Fox News and spread quickly. Social media made jokes, noting that investigators had figured out who the Zodiac Killer was before they managed to track down Gabby Petito’s missing boyfriend (and person of interest in her death) Brian Laundrie. However, for Tom Voigt, operator of ZodiacKiller.com and author of Zodiac Killer: Just the Facts, the news of the ID itself was “completely bogus” and “hot garbage.”

[quote]Rolling Stone spoke to Voigt on Wednesday about the bombshell report and why, in his opinion, it’s “bullshit.”

[quote] You have been researching the Zodiac Killer for 25 years, what got you into the mystery?

[quote]My father was an investigative reporter in Southern California, 1960s. He was a reporter for the Los Angeles Herald Examiner, which was the newspaper that the Black Dahlia Avenger wrote his letters to. That’s what I grew up hearing about and seeing, and all the craziness in Southern California at the time, and the Zodiac was part of that.

[quote]By now obviously you’ve seen the news about the Zodiac Killer’s identification. What’s your take on it?

[quote]Yeah, I’ve got about a million people on my website right now. It’s all bullshit, by the way, just to get that out of the way. This is hot garbage. I don’t know why it got any coverage at all. It was basically a press release.

[quote]Are you familiar with the Case Breakers?

[quote]First of all, the funny thing is, I’ve never heard of any of these people that are these so-called experts. I have been doing this for 25 years and I’ve never heard of any of them. So that there are some red flags right off the bat. And then the funny thing is, they’re matching up lines on foreheads. No witness ever described lines on Zodiac’s forehead. Those lines were simply added by the sketch artist to fill in the sketch. The amended sketch, which is supposed to look more like Zodiac, according to witnesses, doesn’t really even have any lines. So they got rid of them. So because the witnesses were like, “We’re not really happy with that sketch that we gave you a few days ago,” they got changed. The lines went away. No witness ever described that.

by Anonymousreply 62October 7, 2021 6:24 PM

SFPD is disputing the findings re the identity of the killer. They say it’s contrary to the known evidence they’ve collected. Seems like just a PR stunt.

by Anonymousreply 63October 7, 2021 6:24 PM

Tom Voigt (ZodiacKiller.com) RS interview cont.:

[quote] What about their claim that Poste’s name unlocks one of the Zodiac’s ciphers?

[quote]A lot of what they’re typing and talking about is nonsense. These people, what I’ve seen, they don’t really have any kind of a command of the basics of the Zodiac case. From what I’ve read, they’ve gotten their Zodiac information from the comments section at Facebook. They’d skip the main article and they went right to the comments and they think they know everything about this. Maybe they’ve saw the Fincher movie, but probably not. Or, they turned it off after the two-hour mark or so.

[quote]Why do you think Fox News picked up the story?

[quote]It was probably some overnight intern that didn’t read the press release carefully, didn’t realize it was just a publicity thing, and threw it in the news feed. And then other people thought, “Well, this must be legit, it’s on Fox News.” And so they started recycling. And it’s so funny because there’s not even one person who has had any trouble seeing through this for what it is.

[quote]I read on Reddit that this same group of investigators also looked into the D.B. Cooper case a while back.

[quote]They went all-in on that and it blew up in their face. [They accused Robert Rackstraw], but he’s a super-prominent suspect.

[quote] I know that your site has a list of suspects. Obviously there’s Arthur Lee Allen and Rick Marshall. Even the Wikipedia page has an extensive list of suspects. Was Poste ever on your radar in any way? Have you ever even heard of this guy?

[quote]I wouldn’t even call him a suspect. I don’t think he checks any boxes whatsoever. In fact, if he does have scars on his forehead, that’s a really fucking good reason to rule him out.

[quote]The heart of their argument is that Poste maybe killed this possible Zodiac victim Cheri Jo Bates. Do you think that Bates was killed by the Zodiac?

[quote]I do believe so. The original task force in November 1969, the Zodiac detectives and the Riverside Police, got together had a meeting and determined through sharing evidence that Zodiac was absolutely responsible for the murder. That’s what they determined, and that’s what I believe.

[quote]So let’s say hypothetically this team of investigators somehow tie Poste to the Bates murder. Does that eliminate Bates as a Zodiac victim? Or does it kind of open the door for him to maybe possibly be Zodiac?

[quote]It’s possible any of the victims that have been linked to Zodiac, that somebody else may have killed them and the copycats had taken responsibility. It’s a hypothetical question so I have a hard time with it. The [Gary Poste] case they’ve presented in public is probably one of the weakest I think I’ve ever seen against any so-called suspect. You know, I’ve had people honestly contact me thinking Clint Eastwood was Zodiac, L. Ron Hubbard was the Zodiac. People that thought that Bill Russell, the basketball player, seven foot tall, black guy. They were serious and they had a whole team. They had a whole laundry list of reasons why Bill Russell was the Zodiac. I would put Gary Poste down there with Bill Russell as being one of the worst suspects I’ve ever seen.

[quote]If you had to put your money on one suspect, who would it be?

[quote]Richard Gaikowski is my best bet. If I was if I was an employer looking to hire the Zodiac, he’d probably have the most impressive résumé in my eyes. But the reality is that Allen is the suspect you just can’t quit. I just can’t quit that “Big Al,” especially now I’m going over all these old emails and tips and leads going back 25 years. And some of the stuff that was that was said to me about about how it is just mind boggling. Yeah. If he wasn’t, if he wasn’t the Zodiac, he might be responsible for some other murders.
