Spacey's response was that he didn't recall "the encounter," but was "beyond horrified" to hear Rapp share this. He offered his "sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behaviour."

Rapp had met with a lawyer about the attack years ago, but was told the case wasn't worth pursuing at that time. He told his story before to The Advocate way back in 2001 (which has remained CONSISTENT), but the publication chose to redact Spacey's name for legal reasons (even though it was the interviewer who brought up Spacey's name). "It’s hard for me to evaluate his acting because I’m so angry at him. I met him when I was 14 because we were both in plays and he invited me to a party at his house. I was bored, so I was in his bedroom watching TV and didn’t know everybody had left, and he came to the bedroom and he picked me up and lay down on top of me ... I squirmed away and went into the bathroom. I came out and I excused myself, and he’s like “You sure you want to go?” I always wonder if he remembers it, because he was pretty drunk. And he’s had so many."

Since the revelation, twenty people have come forward alleging sexual assault or misconduct against Spacey. One of them, Ari Behn, who alleged Spacey sexually assaulted him at at Nobel Peace Prize concert in 2007, committed suicide one day after Spacey released his "Kill Them with Kindness" video on YouTube in 2019.. Another accuser, an anonymous massage parlour therapist, who also alleged sexual assault, died three months before.

Rapp has been harassed and criticised for coming forward. He filed the lawsuit last year which included another man alleging a similar attack when he was 14 back in 1983 (and Spacey 24), who has since been dismissed due his refusal to expose his identity.

I remember the story Rapp told and the Advocate article is different in some details.

There is nothing "disgusting" about defending your case. Expert witnesses are essential in cases like this. Why wouldn't he get to use a psychologist to explore the accusations and accuser when the accuser is claiming psychological damage. Rapp will have his own experts. Especially in cases which are about inflammatory subject and it is one person's word against the other such as this it. When a case is brought many years later - here DECADES later - it is extremely hard, often impossible, to locate witnesses and other evidence that can be used to impeach your accuser.

It is really outrageous that they are allowing these cases so long after the alleged incident. Rapp has been an adult for decades and could have acted sooner. Lifting the statutes of limitation for sex cases in either civil or criminal cases is an injustice.

While it's probably true both Spacey and Rapp are awful people, the bottom line is Spacey made aggressive sexual advances to a fucking child.

R78, I'm not alleging conspiracy theories, so your point about the age of the massage therapist is irrelevant. The VAST majority of accusers of any degree of assault or inappropriate behaviour are teenagers and twentysomethings (about 80%).

The majority of that teenage/twentysomething group who are alleging sexual assault or actions that are illegal is over 50% (grabbing their genitals or forcing their hand on KS's genitals; in Rapp's case, holding down a 14-year-old in your bed for sexual purposes is assault; in the other 14-year-old's case, it was assault as he described the relationship as "sexual" in nature; in the 16-year-old's case, it's illegal to share pornography with a minor). That is what was included at R49. The 99% figure that is being tossed around is bunk.

As it has been pointed out, WHEN these crimes took place is irrelevant, as processing trauma is individualised and we used to live in a time where we were conditioned to believe that certain sexual assaults and actions towards minors were not crimes, when, in fact, they were. And just because someone initially played down an assault 30 years ago doesn't mean it wasn't assault and they understood what was happening at the time. I think there are multiple people in this thread who have been sexually abused and haven't yet dealt with it, which shades their comments (like R79; I mean WTF?).
