A bunch of Russians robbed/looted lots of high end stores in NYC during the BLM protests. Those fuckers were organized

All the right wing could talk about was those riots and yet they started them. It should have been more obvious. Not one reporter looked into this?

Because I'm an idiot, r5. The story about the Boogaloo guy came up in my feed. I found the story about the Umbrella Man in the same thread and assumed it was from the same time period.

A good reminder though for when the cry about the “BLM riots” when they were right wing all along.

I think there is someone directing these right-wing vigilante people. Someone with a lot of money and resources.

R3, there was at least one article at the time, it's been long enough ago I don't remember what outlet it was in but I think Buzzfeed or Rolling Stone. This NPR article (which is a year old) took what we already knew and built on it. It never really has gotten the kind of attention it should have, it's incredibly frustrating.

It is seriously frustrating because many, MANY media outlets owe a retraction. They blamed it on BLM.

Keep these stories circulating. Bump once a week or so. Make sure to correct the record any and everywhere you can.

This would make a good 60 minutes episode.

This is going to be a case study in J school one day. How was BLM allowed to be smeared in the media so often? How did they get this so wrong.

The media does a great job of smearing Black people, from darkening OJ's mugshot to finding every Black crime victim's mugshot while posting white family annihilators in cheerful settings. It's nuts once you start noticing.

I think at least a correction is in order. Will the media be making a statement? “We got this wrong”?

It’s not surprising. It’s just like all the countless hoaxes we have seen of people claiming to be a victims when they did the act themselves (e.g. Jussie). It’s good to be a little suspicious of these things.
