I don't think it was possible to tell just from looking at him.
I Don't Understand - How Did Anyone Ever Think Liberace Was Gay?

He had the fingers of a quarterback.

He had his fingers in a quarterback!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 1, 2021 10:18 PM |
I never had an inkling.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 1, 2021 10:18 PM |
It was his deep, soulful, manly voice that fooled everyone.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 1, 2021 10:20 PM |
He was fabulous !!!!
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 1, 2021 10:20 PM |
I’m not understanding OP. Why would anyone think that my Lee was gay?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 1, 2021 10:21 PM |
It's truly a shame that the Liberace Museum closed in Las Vegas. That place was a pilgrimage site.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 1, 2021 10:23 PM |
Take it from me, he was shtraight.
I have excellent gaydar.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 1, 2021 10:27 PM |
He was rather sedate in the 1950s. It was when he hit Vegas that he thought people wanted more pageantry.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 1, 2021 10:28 PM |
People probably thought he was bisexual like Peter Allen.
R9 is right. He was a lot more butch when he first started out.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 1, 2021 10:29 PM |
Mr Showmanship or something -- wasn't that his nickname?
The blue-hairs loved him.

It was only the crew of Apollo 11 who thought that, when they were in space.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 1, 2021 10:32 PM |
He was just nice to his mother! Also, he was a snappy dresser!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 1, 2021 10:33 PM |
He’d have performed at Trump’s inauguration.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 1, 2021 10:38 PM |
He was a snappy dresser even as a young boy.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 1, 2021 10:41 PM |
Liberace was a frequent guest on the Merv Griffin Show.
Those two scallywags would go out on the town to chase women after the tapings.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 1, 2021 10:50 PM |
Growing up in the 70's I thought he was too gay to actially be gay. Like, how could someone this gay be allowed to be on TV?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 1, 2021 10:54 PM |

lol, such a great word!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 1, 2021 10:54 PM |
Fag!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 1, 2021 10:55 PM |
Mary! Helen Keller from space was aware Liberace was gay!!!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 1, 2021 11:03 PM |
No gay man would ever go on a watermelon diet. Carbs!
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 1, 2021 11:09 PM |
I don't really know his history (I didn't watch the movie). I know he sued someone who claimed he was gay (and won). I wonder if he was actually seeing someone at the time?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 1, 2021 11:15 PM |
Same with Elton John! I never ever ever would have guessed that he was “bi”, per his Rolling Stone interview.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 1, 2021 11:15 PM |
He was as straight as my boyfriend, Aaron Rodgers!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 1, 2021 11:17 PM |
I’d hit it.

Those two scamps once inquired if they could "Eiffel Tower" me. I thought they were taking me on a whirlwind vacation—honey, little did I know they meant a trip to the pink AND the stink!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 1, 2021 11:22 PM |
He just never found the right girl, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 1, 2021 11:23 PM |
I remember one of his final interviews on Oprah and he looked at Death's door. Another one of her interviews where people blatantly lie to her.
Why peoples lie to The Oprah?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 1, 2021 11:24 PM |
On a scale of one to ten , who is gayer?- Liberace or Richard Simmons
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 1, 2021 11:25 PM |
His girlfriend was always in Canada.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 1, 2021 11:30 PM |
How could anyone have suspected that Liberace was gay? Look at all that manliness!
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 1, 2021 11:31 PM |
More make-up and contouring than all the Kardashians put together.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 1, 2021 11:33 PM |
It’s sad that he never met the right girl. He fell fast and hard for a few showgirls only to discover they were using him for his crystal-encrusted capes and marabou boas.
After a while, he just built a wall around his heart.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 1, 2021 11:41 PM |
Hell, even Rip Taylor was married to a showgirl (named Rusty) and fathered a son at one point... So anything's possible!
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 1, 2021 11:44 PM |
A thread from 2016 about Liberace that surprisingly isn't closed.
Did Anyone Here Like Liberace???
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 1, 2021 11:56 PM |
OP, I agree. Liberace needed to butch it up!
I'm glad no one ever thought I was gay like that.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 2, 2021 2:50 AM |
Yes. YES... he was my BOYFRIEND!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 2, 2021 3:14 AM |
Old ladies loved Liberace. He was much more sedate before vegas. Later on, he was sort of a fixture and people just accepted him. I think most people knew he was gay except the old ladies he was always fawning over. I remember people used to joke about his old lady fans.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 2, 2021 3:32 AM |
Because they dreamed he would shower them with diamonds and furs- but not bother them with all that sex stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 2, 2021 3:37 AM |
When The Supremes and Judy Garland start copying their stage wardrobe from you and you're Liberace, you're gay!
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 2, 2021 4:29 AM |
Speak for yourself, Myrtle. I wanted it all. I wanted the furs and the diamonds, but most of all I wanted that thick, hot, throbbing kielbasa pounding out every one of my holes; even my nostrils.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 2, 2021 5:20 AM |
The signs were admittedly subtle, OP, but they were there for the cognoscenti.
Now, what's the verdict on Little Richard? Sometimes I get that vibe from him, but he's black, so he can't be gay, can he?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 2, 2021 9:40 AM |
Little Richard spent much of his time bring an ex-gay.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 2, 2021 9:50 AM |
He was the old lady equivalent of a non threatening boy
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 2, 2021 10:08 AM |
Totes masc! 😷
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 2, 2021 10:10 AM |
I like how three out of four of the boys on that cover at r44 are named "Corey."
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 2, 2021 11:18 AM |
I actually met him once, in a public setting. He was 'on', performing much like his stage personality, charming, amusing, willingly signing autographs. As for the gay factor, he was so gay that he almost seemed to bend back right around the circle to straight again. His fans viewed him as non-threatening, living a kind of fairy-tale existence that they knew they would never have.

Me either. - Merv Griffin

[quote]Hell, even Rip Taylor was married to a showgirl
I saw him once when I was a young 20 something in West Hollywood. Some guys from the bar took me to meet up with him at Hamburger Hamlet on Sunset. He had about 5 other guys sitting around the table eating with him. But he had no time, he was chowing down some greasy fried chicken like his life depended on it. His toupee was sliding down the front of his greasy face.
It wasn't pretty.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 2, 2021 12:00 PM |
I don't think him even being 'gay' ever crossed most peoples mind back then.
People were not obsessed with whether somebody was gay or not and a lot of that had with it being so taboo and simply not talked about.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 2, 2021 12:01 PM |
It was talked about plenty---just in rather hushed tones. His flamboyance made him non-threatening. He was the son who never left his mother and played schmaltzy sentimental arrangements of recognizable music---perfect for the blue rinse set.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 2, 2021 12:08 PM |
Talk about Liberace wasn't that hushed, it was in tabloids, critics lightly referred to it in reviews for Sincerely Yours and his stage shows.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 2, 2021 12:12 PM |
I don’t think he was above alluding to it himself, essentially wagging his finger at the “accusations” in the papers and very condescendingly condemning them for daring to suggest such things
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 2, 2021 10:18 PM |
Here's the pussyhound pointing out a proposed conquest to his poodle wingman. The dog would go and pee on her leg, then he'd run over and take her into the house to get cleaned up. You know the rest. He was insatiable.
He's lucky he didn't live to see #MeToo. It would have been ugly; very, very ugly.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 3, 2021 9:37 AM |
I think that's actually Senator Manchin of West Virginia, R55.
