Name an actor you see no matter what he/she is in

For me it’s Audra MacDonald. Everything she does on stage is just luminous.
Sadly, she makes so much more in TV and movies but they only display a small portion of her talent.

R185, no I haven't gotten to that one yet. I just figured it would be too hard to find a copy or see it anywhere since It's not that well known.

R162, Lithgow was great as Churchill in "The Crown" although he is a much bigger person than Churchill himself was.
by Anonymous | reply 187 | October 13, 2021 2:41 AM |
R187 What do you mean by "bigger"?
by Anonymous | reply 188 | October 13, 2021 2:42 AM |
R188, I should have written taller. WC was not a tall man.
by Anonymous | reply 190 | October 13, 2021 2:44 AM |
Lily Rabe

[quote][R170], you’re thinking of THE LEFTOVERS. Brilliant show in which she deserved an Emmy nod if not a win. She got neither.
No, not The Leftovers, think it was True Detective? I can't remember much of about her character, but she was very disturbing.
by Anonymous | reply 194 | October 13, 2021 4:47 AM |
The lovely Michael anytime.
Unfortunately his romantic and financial life went haywire and he started appearing trash from 1958 until his demise.
by Anonymous | reply 195 | October 13, 2021 4:51 AM |
John Lithgow creeps me out with his fawning way of acting, in the way that Stephen Fry did in "Wilde." I can't watch him.
by Anonymous | reply 196 | October 14, 2021 1:47 PM |
What I admire about John Lithgow is his versatility.

Kirsten Dunst, pretty much.
by Anonymous | reply 200 | October 14, 2021 4:16 PM |
R183 I thought his performance as Lou in Brand New Cherry Flavor was excellent. He really managed to combine sleaze and venality with pathos. To the point where there were moments where I found myself almost feeling bad for this Beverly Hills asshole. Not many actors can pull that off.
by Anonymous | reply 201 | October 14, 2021 4:31 PM |
Christopher Walken, Benicio Del Toro, Xavier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Edgar Ramirez, Jessica Chastain, Meryl.
by Anonymous | reply 202 | October 14, 2021 7:38 PM |
I may be getting old, blasé and cynical but I can't name an actor nowadays I want to see no matter what he's is in.
All the riveting actors are well and truly dead. I thought Daniel Day Lewis was the last of the riveting actors.

R203, DDL is extraordinary. But there are a number of actors who I love to watch because they're always interesting, and sometimes it is pure entertainment.
by Anonymous | reply 204 | October 15, 2021 12:35 AM |
Jim Varney was always good for a laugh.
by Anonymous | reply 205 | October 15, 2021 3:37 AM |
R205, The operative word being "a".
by Anonymous | reply 206 | October 15, 2021 5:24 AM |
Well he probably can't watch you either R196.
by Anonymous | reply 207 | October 15, 2021 6:25 AM |
R167, R195, I'd hardly call Natalie Wood an actor. She was a personality, but couldn't act her way out of a paper bag. Incapable of showing any emotion in a natural way. Hence her win for 1966's Harvard Lampoon Worst Actor of the Year.
She WAS however, an excellent beard!
by Anonymous | reply 208 | October 15, 2021 6:33 AM |
Brian Cox

R208, But not an excellent swimmer.
by Anonymous | reply 210 | October 15, 2021 7:15 AM |
R208, How do you explain her three(3) Academy Award nominations?
by Anonymous | reply 211 | October 15, 2021 7:17 AM |
R211 I'm not 208 but I would suggest Wood was nominated by the morons of Hollywood.
Wood was very good at playing hysterical adolescents but I would suggest that was borne about by being abused by abusive directors who would work her into a state of hysteria.

I never miss a Liv Ullmann musical.
by Anonymous | reply 213 | October 15, 2021 9:31 AM |
When given a script with rich characterizations and a strong director to help mold her, Natalie could be very, very good: Rebel Without a Cause, The Searchers, Splendor in the Grass, West Side Story, Gypsy, Love with the Proper Stranger, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, all solid performances.
by Anonymous | reply 214 | October 15, 2021 2:11 PM |
R214, Did she even speak in "The Searchers"?
by Anonymous | reply 216 | October 15, 2021 2:29 PM |
Yes, r216. The bigger question is how did Native Americans in the 1870s get their hands on Max Factor makeup?
by Anonymous | reply 217 | October 15, 2021 2:37 PM |
R217 OMG, didn't you know it was created by indigenous two-spirit people! Max Factor, a WHITE man, stole it from the Two-Spirit and made it into a tool of oppression against women and queers.

Mark Rylance
by Anonymous | reply 219 | October 15, 2021 3:27 PM |
I see them because they can't act and almost always play the exact same character:
Tom Cruise
Keanu Reeves
Adam Sandler
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Jennifer Lopez
Jason Statham
Ashton Kutcher
Nicholas Cage
Mark Wahlberg
Steven Seagal

So glad to hear that someone else said that Natalie Wood was a rotten actress. She truly was.
by Anonymous | reply 221 | October 17, 2021 12:24 AM |
[quote] Natalie Wood was a rotten actress.
Wood wasn't an actress. She misbehaved in front of a camera.
by Anonymous | reply 222 | October 17, 2021 2:10 AM |
r221 would you say she was Wood-en?

John Saxon.
He made a lot of craptastic movies, but if I see he's in the cast...I'll tune in anyway. Just to see a younger or older version of this:

Suranne Jones
Harold Lloyd
Steve Zahn

Kathy Bates. Good in everything and gave Kate a run for her money in Elizabeth. Yes, Gimme Gimme Gimme was stupid, but she was just so funny in it.

R232 Burke, you fat whore.
by Anonymous | reply 233 | October 17, 2021 8:55 AM |
I have seen most movies Topher Grace is in. I'm watching that new show he's in on ABC, even though it's pretty awful. I've watched every episode of That '70s Show at least twice.
by Anonymous | reply 234 | October 17, 2021 11:35 AM |
I'll watch anything with full frontal male nudity.
by Anonymous | reply 235 | October 17, 2021 1:40 PM |
Topher Grace, Wilmer Valderama, Adrian Guinier Now there's three guys who hit the lottery, with successful TV series. Because they couldn't act for shit.
