Barbara Broccoli says the search for the next James Bond will start next year!!!

Will Richard Madden ditch his gf and get a girlfriend ASAP?

Do you think it will be like the searches for Scarlett O'Hara and for Annie? They'll be auditioning obscure men in small towns from all over?

We suggest Mr and Mrs Bond.

Barbara Broccoli? Will Karen Karrot be assisting with the casting?

No. She'll be speaking to the manager about Bond being misogynistic.

by Anonymousreply 7September 28, 2021 2:12 AM

What does Carla Cauliflower say though? What is she, a muppet?

by Anonymousreply 8September 28, 2021 2:13 AM

The end of an era. I think Craig made an excellent Bond. He will be missed. The movies were good but far and few between though. I don’t know if that is the normal pace, but it seemed to grind to a halt in the last decade.

by Anonymousreply 9September 28, 2021 2:27 AM

Laverne Cox!

by Anonymousreply 10September 28, 2021 2:30 AM

But who has been campaigning for the role? I know Madden, Cavill, James Norton, Hiddleston, and Elba.

I think Hiddleston has been out for years.

by Anonymousreply 11September 28, 2021 2:32 AM

SUCH BS. Barbara Broccoli & Co. have thought of nothing else for YEARS.

by Anonymousreply 12September 28, 2021 2:32 AM

I don’t want any of those over exposed people.

Wasn’t Craig mostly unknown before Bond? It has to be an actor with some mystery and intrigue. With finesse. It can’t just be any old schlub.

by Anonymousreply 13September 28, 2021 2:42 AM

There have been 26 movies with 12 actors.

Craig will have done 5.

Moore did the most with 7.

Dalton made 2

Brosnan made 4

Connery did 6 or 7 depending on how you count Never Say Never Again.

Luke Evans can play Bond's leather chair.

Michael Fassbender. That's it. He's the one. I'd love to see him do it. Yes. Luke Evans would be ok, but they'd do better to make him a villain.

Tom Hopper might be a dark horse. He has the look, but not the edge.

by Anonymousreply 49September 28, 2021 6:33 PM

We NEED the next JB to be a trans womxn of color and ALSO be a quadruple amputee. I really hope care is taken though because using a harness that doesn't fit the unique contours of a trans womxn's nubs for when xir is strapped to the supercharged jet ski is TERFY and violent.

by Anonymousreply 51September 28, 2021 6:35 PM

[quote] Are we supposed to to know who Barbara Broccoli is? With a name like that, who could take her seriously?

Barbara Broccoli is the daughter of Albert R. Broccoli, who produced the first 16 Bond movies (from Dr. No in 1962 to Licence to Kill in 1989). Albert claimed that it was a great uncle who brought over the first broccoli seeds from Italy to the US in the 1870s, though I find no other record to support that claim.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 56September 28, 2021 7:37 PM

I'm sure you're correct, r56. I think the Bond team also has an aversion to casting an actor appearing concurrently on a TV show, not just due to scheduling conflicts, but diluting the mystique of the Bond brand. Thus, I suspect Henry Cavill is out of the running, as well.

by Anonymousreply 57September 28, 2021 7:41 PM

The producers probably want another action star who can do a lot of stunts.

My pick would be either Jack O’Connell or Jack Reynor. They are young enough to build a new reboot franchise around them.

by Anonymousreply 58September 28, 2021 7:43 PM

Sir Ian McKellen IS James Bond!

by Anonymousreply 59September 28, 2021 7:45 PM

[quote] I think the Bond team also has an aversion to casting an actor appearing concurrently on a TV show, not just due to scheduling conflicts, but diluting the mystique of the Bond brand.

Back in the old days they wanted Pierce Brosnan who was popular as Remington Steele TV star, but the Remington Steele guys didn't want to let him go, and the role went to Timothy Dalton. Then, many years later way after Remington Steele, Pierce Brosnan got the role starting with Goldeneye.

by Anonymousreply 60September 28, 2021 7:46 PM

It will be a male Brit in his 30s. 50/50 chance they could go with a non-White actor. But it won't be a black actor, more likely a some kind of mixed race.

Cavill or any established actor in their 40s are not happening.

by Anonymousreply 86September 29, 2021 12:37 AM

R84, the actor should be reasonably attractive.

by Anonymousreply 87September 29, 2021 12:41 AM

I hope they sabotage the brand by going woke/broke like the BBC did with Dr.Who (or CBS with Star Trek Discovery/Picard). Some IPs just need to die. Studios will milk them forever unless they go down in flames. TV and cinema needs new ideas.

by Anonymousreply 111September 29, 2021 2:58 AM

It’s too bad Idris Elba has aged out because he has the right edge—similar to Connery and Daniel Craig. Tom Hardy could do it. He would need to lose weight because he looks bulky, not muscular but he has an edge. In this day and age, they can’t go back to the suave Roger Moore/Pierce Brosnan/ pretty type.

How about Christian Bale? I doubt he’s interested but he has that edge. Hmmm.

by Anonymousreply 133September 29, 2021 4:59 AM

R130 Well I mean the reason why the Bond actors usually change is cause they get too old.

These 45+ actors aren’t going to work for a 10+ year franchise, that’s why Daniel Craig is done. He’s old.

Watch Liam Neeson in a movie and his last action films are noticeably a struggle for him. I think it was Taken 3 he hopped over a fence and looked like he was going to have a heart attack.

by Anonymousreply 143September 29, 2021 5:18 AM

The Bond actor must look young and fit enough for the stunts, performed by the stuntmen, to look convincing. Basically, a Men's Health cover model who can pull off a GQ Quarterly cover look as well. These days, James Bond not only has to sell the role and its franchise, but also men's product merchandise (watches, cars, fragrance, suits, shoes, etc.).

[quote] It will be a male Brit in his 30s. 50/50 chance they could go with a non-White actor. But it won't be a black actor, more likely a some kind of mixed race.

Rege-Jean Page clicks all the boxes: early 30s, tall, handsome, biracial, elegant and a decent actor.

by Anonymousreply 155September 29, 2021 7:11 AM

They need to leave Bond white. That is ridiculous to change his race after 50-some years.

by Anonymousreply 156September 29, 2021 7:30 AM

ScarJo - it would be such a woke/brave choice and kill the series off for good.

by Anonymousreply 157September 29, 2021 7:49 AM

Rege is older than he claims. He's more 36/38.

by Anonymousreply 158September 29, 2021 8:53 AM

by Anonymousreply 159September 29, 2021 8:54 AM

Once again, it will never be non-Brit. Forget all the Aussies too.

There aren't that many options there. It will be someone from this limited list: Aidan Turner, James Norton, Tom Hardy, Richard Madden, Regé-Jean Page, Henry Golding, Sam Heughan, Jack Lowden, Aaron Taylor Jones, Kit Harrington. Jack O'Connell or a complete unknown.

by Anonymousreply 160September 29, 2021 9:06 AM

Aidan Turner is a non-Brit, hon.

by Anonymousreply 161September 29, 2021 9:11 AM

It needs to be someone in his early 30s because it's a commitment of 4-5 movies which will take at least 10-15 years to complete.

The guy from Bridgerton would be perfect, not only is he young but he's gorgeous and talented but because there are racists like R156, it may not happen.

by Anonymousreply 162September 29, 2021 9:12 AM

[quote] Once again, it will never be non-Brit. Forget all the Aussies too.

It’s already been a non-Brit (Brosnan) and an Australian (Lazenby).

by Anonymousreply 163September 29, 2021 9:13 AM

What about Timmy?

by Anonymousreply 164September 29, 2021 9:14 AM

Irish are fine as soon as they are settled in Britain.

by Anonymousreply 165September 29, 2021 9:21 AM

R101 I’m not wrong about Fassbender. He’s 44, that’s an old Bond. And not only were all of his lead role films were bombs but even his last superhero movie was a bomb!

People here are saying no to Henry Cavill but he’s around the same age Daniel Craig was when he got his Bond role. Younger than Bronson too.

Henry would bring Bond back to being conventionally beautiful too because while I would bang Craig until he had my baby, he’s not conventionally beautiful and handsome like the other Bond men.

James Bond is a top and Henry’s limited acting abilities could pull that off. Madden and Norton and Hiddleston are power bottoms at best. Like I’d definitely kick Hiddelston and Norton’s ass in fights and I’m a slapper. I wouldn’t mess with Henry, he’s believable.

by Anonymousreply 166September 29, 2021 12:52 PM

Richard Armitage, sadly too old, but he combines good looks with the right attitude.

by Anonymousreply 167September 29, 2021 1:00 PM

Cavill cannot carry a project. Bond would need an ever present, characterful sidekick for Cavill to make any sense.

by Anonymousreply 168September 29, 2021 1:03 PM

[quote]What about Timmy?

Perfect Bond Girl! 💃

by Anonymousreply 169September 29, 2021 2:42 PM

Tom Hardy is 44. That may not exclude him, but he's not the perfect age for endless sequels.

by Anonymousreply 170September 29, 2021 2:47 PM

Tom Hardy has peaked. Let it go.

by Anonymousreply 171September 29, 2021 2:52 PM

I told you people last year pre-pandemic that Richard Madden has already been chosen.

It's now just a matter of timing.

For those who say he is too short please call Tom Cruise and the Mission Impossible franchise.

His height was considered ideal because it will be easy the frame him with his female co-stars.

That aspect was already addressed at the meetings with him.

Stay tuned for the announcement a little after the latest Bond Film has had it's theatrical run.

by Anonymousreply 172September 29, 2021 2:59 PM

You people!?

by Anonymousreply 173September 29, 2021 3:03 PM

Daniel Craig is quite short.

by Anonymousreply 174September 29, 2021 3:18 PM

It's not just age that matters it is his look. Sean Connery looked older than his real age when he did Bond. He looked like he was in his early to mid 40's. And Daniel Craig looked older than 38. So maybe the word I'm looking for is "seasoned." or "Worldly." He has to have that extra something. And please take Kit Harington off the list. I love him but he is too short. I still like Fassbender. And BTW: Connery was Scottish. Colin Farrell would've been perfect once upon a time. And I personally think Nicholas Hoult is a really good actor and he would be my dark horse pick. Don't know if Christian Bale would do it. He's not a bad choice, but he was Batman. And Henry Cavill is a no. Truly.

by Anonymousreply 175September 29, 2021 3:19 PM

These days, it won't be an actor over 40. They want him carrying the franchise for the next 10-15 years. It won't be anybody too well known in another major film franchise or anyone currently committed to a television series.

I agree that Page is a likely choice. Madden would also be a good choice. It won't be Fassbender, Cavill, Hardy, Elba, Hiddleston, or any of that lot. Too old and/or too well known.

by Anonymousreply 176September 29, 2021 3:21 PM

How old is Barbara Broccoli? Damn. So let's say it takes about 3 years to write and produce a Bond film. Over ten years you'd get three possibly four movies at most. You can't have them coming out too close together. That's quite a commitment.

by Anonymousreply 177September 29, 2021 3:29 PM

[quote] And BTW: Connery was Scottish

As is James Bond.

by Anonymousreply 178September 29, 2021 3:29 PM

[quote] Rege-Jean Page clicks all the boxes: early 30s, tall, handsome, biracial, elegant and a decent actor.

A pronounceable name would help.

by Anonymousreply 179September 29, 2021 3:30 PM

r178, interestingly, Fleming didn't make Bond Scottish until after he saw Connery in Dr. No and was impressed by his characterization.

Thus far we've had a Scottish Bond (Connery), an Australian Bond (Lazenby), an Irish Bond (Brosnan), and three English Bonds (Moore, Craig, and Dalton).

by Anonymousreply 180September 29, 2021 3:32 PM

The only issue with Page is the Asian market. They love their white protagonists there, and that's a major consideration for any franchise.

by Anonymousreply 181September 29, 2021 3:37 PM

Bond will remain you typical British white Caucasian.

This was discussed and making him another ethnicity was rejected.

It was felt audiences would not accept him if he were made of African or Asian descent or female for that matter.

by Anonymousreply 182September 29, 2021 3:58 PM

I think it would be good to reboot the franchise with a young Bond. Show us his teen years and college days.

by Anonymousreply 183September 29, 2021 4:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 185September 29, 2021 4:17 PM

Yeah, I would be shocked if the Bond producers would select an actor who is already a part of another franchise.

by Anonymousreply 186September 29, 2021 4:23 PM

A teen Bond!!! 😍😍😍

by Anonymousreply 187September 29, 2021 4:24 PM

I could see a teen Bond series on Netflix or another streamer. They wouldn't make that part of the film franchise, though.

by Anonymousreply 188September 29, 2021 4:26 PM

Madden has been too coy about his sexuality to be Bond.

Dalton is not English. He is Welsh.

by Anonymousreply 191September 29, 2021 5:08 PM

R191, Dalton was born in Wales to an English father and an American mother; they moved to England when he was 4 and that’s where he grew up.

by Anonymousreply 192September 29, 2021 6:19 PM

Brosnan moved the England in his young teens. He's still Irish.

by Anonymousreply 193September 29, 2021 6:44 PM

Definitely more Irish than Dalton is Welsh.

by Anonymousreply 194September 29, 2021 7:19 PM

I would rather it be an unknown.

by Anonymousreply 203September 29, 2021 8:35 PM

Goode is too old as well.

by Anonymousreply 204September 29, 2021 8:38 PM

I'd love to see Nick Hoult try it, but I think he's too well-known.

by Anonymousreply 205September 29, 2021 8:48 PM

Hoult would be a good choice.

by Anonymousreply 206September 29, 2021 8:50 PM

Hoult still reads boyish.

by Anonymousreply 207September 29, 2021 8:58 PM

Plus, Hoult is repellently fugly.

by Anonymousreply 208September 29, 2021 9:05 PM

I think Bond shouldn't be **too** handsome, actually. Many of the ideas here are fantastic, but some are so conventionally pretty, like Cavill and the like. That's why I think Hardy is a great choice. Sexy and rugged--physical. A physical actor with toughness and sexiness, and not too pretty. I'd look for an actor with a very good resume but who isn't too famous yet--similar to where Craig was when he got it. (So Hardy might be too famous, esp after Venom.) It's a fun game to try and figure it out!

by Anonymousreply 209September 29, 2021 9:22 PM

Hardy has already hit the wall. You can tell DLers are mostly over 40 with some of the names suggested here.

by Anonymousreply 211September 29, 2021 9:51 PM

Hardy would have been ideal 5-10 years ago: The guy can be sexy as hell and also fucking terrifying. He's too old and too famous now.

by Anonymousreply 212September 29, 2021 10:55 PM

Hardy used to be beautiful. Terrible skin, though. And his face gets very bloated looking sometimes.

I suppose they might go with another "bruiser" looking 007, though. Hardy after Craig would be two of them in a row.

by Anonymousreply 213September 29, 2021 11:00 PM

Let's not discount Aiden Turner. He was only supporting in the Hobbit franchise, and those films are long over, anyway. He's still under 40 and hot as fuck.

by Anonymousreply 214September 29, 2021 11:06 PM

Here's a fairly comprehensive list of hot young British actors (though they left off James McAvoy and this came out before Rege-Jean Page broke through).

The only ones on this list who are under 40 AND look like a Bond to me are Aiden Turner and Nick Hoult.

R215, McAvoy isn't young. Not anymore.

I'm not buying the rumor that Bond will be Richard Madden. He's gay. When the stories come out about he and Brandon Flynn living together, it was like he said goodbye to the Bond role. For the very same reason people will not accept a black or biracial James Bond, the international market will have a hard time accepting the Bond Actor taking it up the ass with a man.

by Anonymousreply 235September 30, 2021 2:48 AM

From the list at r215,

Theo James would be an interesting choice. Can he act?

The only one I’d look forward to seeing is Nicolas Hoult though.

I remember the uproar when Daniel Craig was announced and I couldn’t believe people didn’t see it. I knew he’d be fantastic.

by Anonymousreply 236September 30, 2021 3:07 AM

They should have an open call.

Richard is too short.

I saw Max Iron in a spy genre series, I enjoyed it, I think it's on Amazon prime, saw it a while ago. quite interesting if you enjoy that genre.

by Anonymousreply 237September 30, 2021 3:07 AM

Josh O’Connor could act the part but I’m not sure about the physical demands, like carrying all the money he’d earn.

by Anonymousreply 238September 30, 2021 3:08 AM

Nicholas Hoult would be good. He can act but his talent leans towards comedy. He's hilarious as Emperor Peter in The Great. That is a series he is committed to be in, when would he have time to shoot Bond?

by Anonymousreply 239September 30, 2021 3:32 AM

Hoult way to boyish. Gotta be an actor who reads "man".

by Anonymousreply 240September 30, 2021 3:52 AM

Never seen Daniel in person, but I did see Rachel Weiss at The Public with another woman waiting to see a play, and she is really short. I doubt she is more than 5'1" at most. She was wearing jeans and flats. So if you see the two of them together you can figure that he isn't tall.

Here is a portion of today's NYT interview with Craig. Daniel Craig.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, Daniel Craig

At long last, the star of the James Bond franchise bids farewell to 007 with “No Time to Die” (and learns for the first time about his life as an internet meme).

The New York Times By Dave Itzkoff Sept. 30, 2021 Updated 6:15 a.m. ET

More than a year and a half ago, Daniel Craig and I met at the Museum of Modern Art to talk about his final James Bond movie, “No Time to Die,” and bid farewell to that suave superspy he’d been playing since 2006.

When we sat down at our table in a private room at the Modern restaurant, Craig offered me the use of a hand-spray dispenser he was carrying. “That stuff is gold dust,” he said offhandedly. “It’s some crazy thing — people are selling it for like $25 a pop.”

As it turned out, that might have been the most significant part of our interview. We spent the next hour engaged in a polite conversation about the making of “No Time to Die” (which then was scheduled to open in a month), and how pleased he was both with the work he had done and to be finished with his duties.

We said goodbye and two days later, MGM and the producers of the Bond franchise announced they were delaying the release of “No Time to Die” until November, citing their “careful consideration and thorough evaluation of the global theatrical marketplace.” (“This is purely an economic decision we understand, and not one based on growing fears over the coronavirus,” the trade publication Deadline wrote unconvincingly at the time.)"

by Anonymousreply 274September 30, 2021 8:25 PM

How about Michiel Huisman?

by Anonymousreply 275October 1, 2021 1:05 AM

Now I would definitely go for that R275.

by Anonymousreply 277October 1, 2021 1:57 AM

I still think Hoult's got a chance. He's only 32, which would leave him plenty of time even if the first film didn't start shooting until 2023. He's had a series of girlfriends and fathered a child with his current one, so heterosexual cred is established. He was in the X-Men films but only as a supporting role, and nobody will care at this point that he played Beast. He's currently in The Great, but that's a small series and will likely end in another season or so. He's a good actor with great light comic timing, and women love him. He's perfect.

Height of the actor doesn’t matter that much. You can’t really tell the difference between 5’10” and 6’1” on screen.

by Anonymousreply 287October 1, 2021 7:05 AM

I hope it's not Madden. I don't find him attractive enough to be Bond. He may have been their choice pre-pandemic but a lot of things have happened since. They can always change their minds.

ITA about Hoult. He has grown into his looks, doesn't have the skinny pretty boy look he had in his 20s, in fact, he's kind of hunky. If you saw the recent Angelina Jolie movie, he played a villain and he looked pretty masculine to me. However, he's really tall, like 6'2 or more.

Richard Madden? Really? Does Lydia Lettuce not know that he is not straight? She must have seen the pictures of him and Brandon Flynn, right? Or she doesn't care?

by Anonymousreply 290October 1, 2021 10:40 AM

Lots of people don't know about Madden. But if he got the role, I think the coverage of his personal life would intensify.

by Anonymousreply 291October 1, 2021 10:43 AM

Look. Whoever they pick has to have some appeal to the American market. And broader. Who ever it is can't simply be someone who just appeals to the Brits. I think Madden is possible. But don't underestimate Hoult. And then there's Joe Alwyn. Joe would be perfect. Think about it. And he's a very good actor. The problem I have with Hoult, and I really do like him, is that he seems to not have that sort of seething sex appeal that James Bond has.

OK. My List would include: Madden, Page, Michael Fassbender, Michel Huisman, Joe Alwyn, Nic Hoult, and Henry Golding.

by Anonymousreply 292October 1, 2021 2:11 PM

Hoult doesn't have a good voice, does he?

by Anonymousreply 293October 1, 2021 2:14 PM

Fassbender's career has cooled rather, hasn't it?

by Anonymousreply 294October 1, 2021 2:14 PM

R294, Fassbender has been on a break since he and Alicia Vikander got married...they just had a baby. But as I recall, Daniel Craig wasn't setting the world on fire when they picked him. In fact opinions were divided because the perception of Craig was that he was definitely not top tier, but regarded as a very good character actor.

by Anonymousreply 295October 1, 2021 2:23 PM

Craig's credits were more interest pre Bond: Angels In America, Our Friends In the North, that movie with Anne Reid.

by Anonymousreply 296October 1, 2021 2:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 297October 1, 2021 2:29 PM

Don’t forget his gay turn in Love is the Devil

by Anonymousreply 298October 1, 2021 2:33 PM

Yes, that too. Bond has made Craig very famous and very rich but it hasn't led to outstanding work.

by Anonymousreply 299October 1, 2021 2:34 PM

Go back and look at the photo of Hoult posted at r288. In a couple years, he’ll do nicely.

by Anonymousreply 300October 1, 2021 3:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 302October 1, 2021 3:59 PM

It's going to be that guy from Bridgerton.

by Anonymousreply 303October 1, 2021 4:31 PM

Craig gave Bond less charm and more grittiness with depth with vulnerability. That will be a hard act to follow.

by Anonymousreply 304October 1, 2021 4:34 PM

Exactly, r304. I can't see some posh twink like Nicholas Hoult or Rege-page-jean whatever succeeding after the phenomenal popularity of Craig in the role.

by Anonymousreply 305October 1, 2021 5:00 PM

Well, they can get someone more handsome than Craig. I'm sure there's lots of London stage actors they could pick.

by Anonymousreply 306October 1, 2021 5:11 PM

Fassbinder may not be old, but he looks old. Simply not right for the part. Hoult is waaaay too boyish. A simply ridiculous suggestion. Requires someone with gravatas. Very few actors have the personal heft Bond requires and the particular suave that Bond requires. Madden will never get it. He blew his chances a while back. Gayness has nothing to do it. He's just too much of a luvvie. And whoever plays Bond has to do a shitload of marketing. The single greatest criticism of Craig's Bond is that it's been too serious: I suspect the next Bond will be written as more playful as per the Marvel series. It certainly needs to lighten up. Killing him in No Time To Die was a betrayal of the character.

by Anonymousreply 307October 1, 2021 5:28 PM

The only non-controversial choice at the moment would be Tom Hardy, but he's getting on in years, which is always a problem when you're looking at, say, a ten or even fifteen year stretch. People would grumble, as they always grumble when Bond is chosen, but he could perhaps pull it off. But perhaps wouldn't want it. It's a terrible big responsibility.

by Anonymousreply 308October 1, 2021 5:33 PM

by Anonymousreply 315October 1, 2021 6:43 PM

[quote] The single greatest criticism of Craig's Bond is that it's been too serious: I suspect the next Bond will be written as more playful as per the Marvel series.

Agree. This is what occurred before, people wanted a Bond type that was portrayed like the previous Bond, Roger Moore who was playful and lighthearted. Timothy Dalton came in and was more serious and action-oriented. I am not sure why Dalton lasted for only 2 movies. There will certainly be comparisons between a new serious Bond and Craig's Bond. It's better just to switch gears then. There's already too much stress in the world so why not go for a lighter, less serious Bond.

by Anonymousreply 320October 1, 2021 11:20 PM

No I don’t think they can go back to lighthearted Bond. The world is much grimmer now.

by Anonymousreply 321October 2, 2021 12:58 AM

The villain in the next Bond film should be Vladimir Putin

by Anonymousreply 322October 2, 2021 1:08 AM

R320, after the release of Licence to Kill in 1989, lawsuits involving producer Albert Broccoli, MGM-UA, and potential new owners delayed the next film until the cases were resolved in 1993, by which time Dalton's contract had expired; additionally, response to Dalton's darker interpretation of the character had received a mixed reaction and Barbara Broccoli, now running the Bond empire, decided to return to the lighter characterization of the Roger Moore era, and Pierce Brosnan was perfect for that.

by Anonymousreply 323October 2, 2021 1:13 AM

R321, a lighter, campier Bond might be exactly what we need right now.

by Anonymousreply 324October 2, 2021 1:17 AM

Well in the 2000’s with James Bond and Batman, action / blockbusters had more serious tones that went with good writing and great acting performances.

Today it’s more about good writing but with lighter tones because of Deadpool Thor Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy and the new Suicide Squad.

But I also feel like a campy James Bond is simply Austin Powers, no?

by Anonymousreply 325October 2, 2021 1:33 AM

And they needed to make Bond more serious especially after that horrible “Die Another Day” which must rank as the worst Bond film, no?

by Anonymousreply 326October 2, 2021 1:39 AM

I'm betting on Tom Hardy. The producers had a better experience with a real actor like Daniel Craig than they did with handsome cardboard cutouts like Pierce Brosnan.

by Anonymousreply 327October 2, 2021 1:43 AM

I would guess someone of mixed-race would be a likely choice. Henry Goulding is a good choice, but Regé-Jean Page is even more likely.

by Anonymousreply 328October 2, 2021 1:44 AM

He's too well known and won't disappear into the role

by Anonymousreply 329October 2, 2021 1:45 AM

R327 Tom Hardy is kinda too trampy to be Bond. He’s sexy but he’s too trashy looking.

Those wishing for a person of colour can dream on.

It is not going to happen. I can tell you.

by Anonymousreply 331October 2, 2021 1:51 AM

After Sean Connery, there have been two distinct kinds of Bonds:

1. Grim brooding Bonds (George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Daniel Craig)

2. Debonair playboy Bonds (Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan)

One of the reasons I think Sean Connery was the best of all of them was that he embodied both sides to Bond.

I'd like to see someone else who can deliver a good quip and recommend a fancy haberdasher, but who doesn't seem as fey as Roger Moore; and someone who is sexy and violent, but not as brutish as Daniel Craig.

by Anonymousreply 332October 2, 2021 1:51 AM

Hardy would have been good 5 or 10 years ago. He's too old.

You know, starting in 1996, Tom Cruise started grinding out the Mission Impossible movies. Then in 2002, Jason Bourne showed up. Now Both Cruise and Matt Damon are getting older. Cruise in particular. Yet his MI 7 & 8 are both in the pipeline, one in post and the other in pre production. Bourne, of course is no more. But Bond took a hit from both of them. I don't see anything vaguely competitive out here right now. So they can reband with someone younger but who still has that edge and really do some creative things with the Franchise.

Absolutely agree. Bond is HUGE is asia, and it would not play well. They respect and adore every aspect of Anglo-Saxon and Teutonic beauty which has become so ridiculously slandered and discounted in the West, and it's a big box office draw in itself. To give a single example: the banal Lea Seydoux, who barely registers in the West (as someone said, her expressions vary from moody to sulky), is considered a very great Botticelli beauty there. Craig's blue eyes are constantly praised.

by Anonymousreply 346October 2, 2021 5:30 AM

Funnily enough, Madden came to the Broccoli's attention from his role Cinderella and not Bodyguard. Go figure.

by Anonymousreply 348October 2, 2021 10:05 AM

[quote] The only non-controversial choice at the moment would be Tom Hardy,

There is no way in hell the Bond franchise will pick the guy who plays Venom right now. They will rather go with a "blank slate" than someone whose past big blockbuster roles may overshadow the Bond franchise. Apart from Venom he also played Bane in the Christopher Nolan Batman franchise.

I would be incredibly surprised if the Bond producers go for any guy who had a flashy leading role in a blockbuster franchise in recent years. Even someone like Matt Smith, who played the iconic Doctor Who many years ago, would be a total shock to me.

Also, some suggest actors who are attached to TV shows which are still filming and releasing new seasons. No way would the Bond producers be ok with working around some TV show's schedule. Craig was only able to do and commit to Knives Out, because they made sure it wouldn't interfere with anything Bond related (including PR promotion). Bond would have to come first. And, like in Pierce Brosnan's case, it's not like TV shows are happy to let go guys to do greater things even though they still are under contract.

by Anonymousreply 349October 2, 2021 10:43 AM

Pierce Brosnan has done some pretty good movies post-Bond. They’re not massive blockbusters but they are well-written and enjoyable to watch.

by Anonymousreply 353October 2, 2021 5:00 PM

Forget Tom Hardy…not good looking at all…potato face and body too bulky…what about Chris Pine?

by Anonymousreply 354October 2, 2021 5:08 PM

Hardy is the son of an artist and a writer. He is definitely upper-class, has tried to avoid playing upper-class characters but chassez le naturel et il revient au galop. He'd be fine playing an old Etonian like Bond.

by Anonymousreply 355October 2, 2021 5:12 PM

Barbara picked Pierce Brosnan, because her father wanted him when he was still in charge. It was her way of saying that nothing has changed, and she won't make crazy, (womanly) decisions while leading the franchise.

by Anonymousreply 375October 3, 2021 5:39 PM

This role calls for heterosexual actor Sam Heughan!!!

by Anonymousreply 376October 3, 2021 5:52 PM

It's kind of amazing that an international behemoth like the James Bond franchise is run like a family operation.

Fleming picked the right people to bring his creation to the screen. And they’ve handled it with dignity and respect and kid gloves, a dollop of class, and a shrewd eye and clever marketing; the movies generally live up to the hype — there’s always something fresh yet consistent to see in a James Bond picture.

by Anonymousreply 377October 3, 2021 6:20 PM

This is a typical male franchise that women are attracted to. You do want a straight female perspective on the actor's ability to attract that audience. Like Daniel Craig - kinda ugly in a Bronson way - but very sexually attractive. Beta males are not wanted.

by Anonymousreply 378October 3, 2021 9:35 PM

Men are way more into James Bond than women are

by Anonymousreply 379October 3, 2021 9:54 PM

[quote] I think the Bond team also has an aversion to casting an actor appearing concurrently on a TV show, not just due to scheduling conflicts, but diluting the mystique of the Bond brand.

Roger Moore was coming from The Saint and The Persuaders. The Broccolis attempted and failed to hire Pierce Brosnan when he was still doing Remington Steele. So, no.

I like some of the choices here. I'd like to add Dominic Cooper to the lineup.

by Anonymousreply 380October 3, 2021 9:55 PM

At 43 short-arse Cooper would be a year older than Brosnan when he took the role. But I can't say I wouldn't be on-board. I like Cooper and he has suave and debonair down pat.

by Anonymousreply 381October 3, 2021 10:03 PM

He could play someone with Downs, though.

by Anonymousreply 382October 3, 2021 10:07 PM

R380, I was referring to an actor doing a TV show concurrently with Bond; Moore had already completed The Persuaders when he was hired for Live and Let Die; and the reason Brosnan didn't get Bond in 1986 was because NBC changed their mind about cancelling Remington Steele when it was leaked that Broccoli wanted Brosnan - but only if the show was done.

by Anonymousreply 383October 3, 2021 10:13 PM

R383 I don't think the fact that an actor has been on a TV show dilutes the Bond mystique though, and I don't think the Broccolis think that, either. But... I think they're inclined to hire actors who don't have star stamped on their names. So, no Cavill, or Hardy, or Fassbender, or Bloom or anyone of that magnitude. And in the age of Marvel, I doubt they'll hire someone who's been playing a superhero for the last 10 years.

by Anonymousreply 384October 3, 2021 10:24 PM

R384, again, I am specifically referring to appearing on a series at the same time he's playing Bond. That's the dealbreaker, not having done one in the past.

by Anonymousreply 385October 3, 2021 10:36 PM

Roger Moore was the absolute worst. Timothy Dalton actually wasn't bad but the movie he was in was shit.

by Anonymousreply 386October 3, 2021 10:42 PM

R386, Dalton was in two Bond films: The Living Daylights (1987) and Licence to Kill (1989). The first one was pretty good, but the second one sucked.

by Anonymousreply 387October 3, 2021 11:04 PM

Del Toro was a real find, though.

by Anonymousreply 388October 3, 2021 11:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 404October 4, 2021 12:38 PM

They don't have to explain it. Every Bond is a new Bond. We know that Craig's Bond was not the one who had the adventures of Goldfinger or Moonraker or The Living Daylights or Tomorrow Never Dies in the 60s/70s/80s/90s. The man is not immortal. They just start over with a new actor and go from there.

r405, it's like with Marvel or DC where there are multiple earths. Craig, Moore, & Connery played Bonds who fought a crime organization called S.P.E.C.T.R.E. Just not the very same one.

by Anonymousreply 406October 4, 2021 6:41 PM

I think of Connery, Lazenby, and Moore as all the same Bond -- all connected by the death of Tracy. Can't recall if Tracy is mentioned in the Dalton Bonds, and I don't recall her being mentioned in the Brosnan Bonds, so I could imagine Dalton and Brosnan playing a different Bond, and then Craig playing a third Bond.

Here's the Next James Bond Odds from a betting site, oddschecker.com-

Tom Hardy – 10/3

Clive Standen – 4/1

Rege-Jean Page – 6/1

James Norton – 8/1

Henry Cavill – 10/1

Idris Elba – 10/1

Lashana Lynch – 12/1

Sam Heughan – 16/1

Michael Fassbender – 20/1

Tom Hiddleston – 22/1

Speaking of Clives, Clive Owen would have been a fantastic Bond back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 411October 4, 2021 8:15 PM

^^ This is a preposterous list created by "lay" persons who clearly know nothing about the Bond franchise. Betting on the biggest movie stars in England is absurd considering the producers never hired the big name to play Bond in the past, much less a big star like Hardy who's already engaged in a superhero franchise. Disregard.

by Anonymousreply 412October 4, 2021 8:51 PM

Clive Standen - I completely forgot about Vikings. He was very very sexy and cool. He may be too "manly" and not suave looking enough.

by Anonymousreply 424October 5, 2021 4:18 AM

I've never heard of Clive Standen but he's got pretty good odds (4/1) and he looks very manly although on the chunky side if he gets fallow. He needs to cut out the carbs.

by Anonymousreply 426October 5, 2021 5:40 AM

A different betting site (US-Bookies) has suspended betting on the next James Bond because

[quote] The next 007 is one of the biggest talking points in cinema and now oddsmakers firmly believe Tom Hardy has been chosen as the next actor for the role and are stopped taking bets on who will be the next James Bond. Hardy's odds were slashed from 5/1 to 1/3 before oddsmakers pulled the plug on the market after bets came pouring in on the Dark Knight actor, which means an official announcement could be just around the corner.

But what if Barbara Broccoli is a DL-type contrarian? Then all bets off.

by Anonymousreply 430October 5, 2021 9:57 AM

Tom Hardy playing Venom AND Bond? Yeah, sure, after the commercial success of the latest Venom movie the Marvel guys really just drop Hardy, so he can be Bond for a decade or two. *rollingeyes*

Ben Hardy has a higher chance to be the next Bond than Tom. And even that is a fat chance of ever happening.

by Anonymousreply 431October 5, 2021 10:55 AM

It's not a new Bond. Didn't they show Honey Ryder's diving belt and knife in one of the Brosnan or Craig Bonds. The Lazenby Bond even worked the previous movies into the title sequence. It's the same James Fucking Bond, a man in his 30s/40s.

by Anonymousreply 432October 5, 2021 11:29 AM

The article about Hardy was written over 1 year ago. There was another article written this year how the new actor should be under 35 years of age.

by Anonymousreply 433October 5, 2021 11:34 AM

But it's not the same crime organisation. The writers can't even claim that it's the same one under new direction since they very much established that it was started by a personal enemy of Craig's Bond gloating that he killed Vesper from Casino Royale. I guess some easter eggs were just some fan service but not meant to be canon.

by Anonymousreply 434October 5, 2021 12:08 PM

[quote] I think of Connery, Lazenby, and Moore as all the same Bond -- all connected by the death of Tracy.

How is Connery's Bond connected to Tracy? Lazenby met and married Tracy and watch her die. Moore visited her grave.

by Anonymousreply 435October 5, 2021 12:12 PM

Connery is seeking vengeance for Tracy's death in Diamonds Are Forever.

Tracy is referred to twice in the Moore Bonds, in The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only.

by Anonymousreply 436October 5, 2021 2:16 PM

It's hard to appreciate how HUGE the franchise is internationally. Here's a video of the premiere of No Time To Die in Lagos. Lagos? Where the fuck is that in Africa? And they know their different Bonds! I find that amazing. And it's opened there before America! Darfa Orphan probably already has the souvenir T shirt.

Taron is much too light.

by Anonymousreply 445October 22, 2021 7:21 AM

Taron Egerton is too short, as is Tom Holland (who is too young now but wants to do it down the road).

by Anonymousreply 446October 22, 2021 8:34 AM

I think Alec Baldwin's schedule has recently freed up.

by Anonymousreply 447October 22, 2021 8:44 AM

Regé-Jean Page clicks every box. He IS the next Bond.

by Anonymousreply 448October 22, 2021 10:09 AM

I think Richard Madden landing The Eternals, may foreclose any opportunity to be considered for Bond. Jai Courtney would make a fine Bond villain but he is definitely second tier. They need someone spectacular. Or someone they can build into spectacular. Hardy seems used up. He has Venom, anyway. Rege'-Jean Page would not be a bad idea. But I still hope Madden, Henry Golding, and Joe Alwyn remain on the table.

by Anonymousreply 449October 22, 2021 2:45 PM

I don't think Rege-Jean Page will last the Hollywood course. Like Luke Evans, he'll be out (again) by his early forties.

by Anonymousreply 452October 22, 2021 5:17 PM

you have to remember the Bond films make a fortune in the Asian market and Asian markets don't like black heroes - remember how the poster forr 12 Years a Slave only featured Brad Pitt?

by Anonymousreply 453October 22, 2021 5:19 PM

Brenton Thwaites…

by Anonymousreply 454October 22, 2021 5:41 PM

Who plays Bond is really important. You have had the Bourne series, and of course John Wick, and Tom Cruise MI series, and other action stars, and Bond has competition now that didn't exist when it belonged to Sean Connery, Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan. So Bond has to be interesting, unconventional. Smart. Daniel Craig did that. His successor will have to do even more, so they have to be someone that can build on and move the franchise forward.

by Anonymousreply 455October 22, 2021 6:04 PM

Bond won't be black and he won't be a woman. The Asian markets are too important.

I still think Nick Hoult has a chance.

by Anonymousreply 456October 22, 2021 6:05 PM

Hoult and Egerton aren't butch enough

by Anonymousreply 468October 23, 2021 5:34 AM

Absolutely. The franchise only makes 22% of its box-office from the U.S. And Babs has already said she has zero intention of casting a woman in the role. His name is JAMES.

We know damn well it's gonna be a woman of color, or perhaps a trans woman of color. And it's probably already been decided who it is, but it will be sprung as a big "surprise" to revitalize the tired franchise.

And this will provide weeks of fuel for the usual suspects, right and left, to rant. In other words, free publicity.

And all social justice-minded people will have to go see it to prove they're open-minded. And all conservative people will have to avoid it to prove that get woke = go broke.

And the usual SJW activists will find some reason to rage against it.

And after all that, it'll be thoroughly mediocre and forgettable.

by Anonymousreply 477October 23, 2021 9:38 PM

R477 is just looking for an excuse to lash out at trans people and woke people. Hardly any trans people of color, or trans people in general, are cast in anything. Not even in supporting roles. But of course they'll cast a trans lead in a big budget action movie *rolls eyes*

by Anonymousreply 478October 23, 2021 9:47 PM

It will be Tom Hiddleston...they will beef up his body a little

by Anonymousreply 479October 23, 2021 9:56 PM

Tom has already been reduced to TV.

by Anonymousreply 480October 23, 2021 10:03 PM

Max Thieriot would be great. Still on TV, relatively unknown, ready for a breakout roll

by Anonymousreply 481October 23, 2021 10:26 PM

They will not cast an American.

by Anonymousreply 482October 23, 2021 10:42 PM

R295 Fassbender has been on a “break” since “Jobs” bombed and “The Snowman” bombed and his movie with his wife bombed and all his X-Men movies bombed. I think Hollywood has taken a break from him.

Who is Clive Standen? I wish I could put a baby in him.

R426 I think Madden ruined his chances by being too quiet. He seemed to have been moving up but he’s burned out since The Eternals. There was a buzz around him during The Bodyguard and the Elton John movie but it’s died down completely.

by Anonymousreply 483October 24, 2021 12:28 AM

Fassbender would be perfect.

by Anonymousreply 484October 24, 2021 1:05 AM

R484. Give it up.

Just read the Sony e-mail hacks. Nobody wanted him for “Jobs” because he had a poor name at the box office and this is when he had a buzz.

What movie has he ever done in the last 10 years? Even his indie films don’t make their returns.

by Anonymousreply 487October 24, 2021 1:32 AM

He'll be at least 46 by the time the next one gets released...

by Anonymousreply 488October 24, 2021 1:40 AM

Fassbender is German

by Anonymousreply 489October 24, 2021 2:20 AM

It'll be someone in his early 30s. They won't cast anyone over 40 or anyone who's already had a leading role in another franchise. He won't be black, and he'll be a HE.

by Anonymousreply 490October 24, 2021 3:03 AM

I think Jonathan Bailey would be perfect, but will they give it to an openly gay man?

by Anonymousreply 491October 24, 2021 3:29 AM

They will not. It would kill the film in the Asian markets, especially China.

by Anonymousreply 492October 24, 2021 3:32 AM

R489, he was born in Ireland to a German father and Irish mother. Look it up.

by Anonymousreply 493October 24, 2021 4:24 AM

It's going to be Chrissy Metz or Lizzo - mark my words!

by Anonymousreply 494October 24, 2021 4:54 AM

Given they come out at 3 year intervals (usually), and Babs naturally would want someone who could carry the franchise as long as Craig, you're looking at someone no older than 35, and preferably younger to drag in that demographic. There's no way Fassbinder would be cast at 44. Craig did Casino Royale at 38, which was already older than desireable for his 15 year run.

The trades are saying the budget is likely to be cut to $200m for the next movie, given the risk of a new face, and risk generally. In an interview the art director of NTTD said the cost of hiring the 007 soundstage at Pinewood is eyewatering even before you start building anything in it, and I think they used six or eight stages in all.

by Anonymousreply 495October 24, 2021 1:56 PM

I thought Craig was older when he started. He looked and seemed older. Oh, well. Thanks for your reasoned perspective, R495.

by Anonymousreply 496October 24, 2021 2:43 PM

I've long suspected Mr. Craig shaved a few years off his resume; however, if so, he wouldn't be the first.

by Anonymousreply 497October 24, 2021 3:18 PM

Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Timothy Dalton all started playing Bond in their 40s — Moore was even in his mid 40s. That was when they cranked out Bond films every two years, though.

by Anonymousreply 525October 26, 2021 6:49 PM

Daniel Craig's screen career was relatively minor before Bond. He was mostly a second or third lead. I think he did a good job as Bond but he hasn't got charisma out the wazoo. He's something of a withholding presence.

by Anonymousreply 528October 26, 2021 9:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 529October 26, 2021 9:52 PM

I never liked Craig as Bond (in this last movie, I kept thinking he looked like a fisherman, or farmer, or some other working class guy....that terrible face with the ears sticking out and squat body....not debonair at all). I've liked him in other things, but never was convinced he was James Bond. I look forward to a change.

by Anonymousreply 530October 26, 2021 10:13 PM

Yeah, IDK why people keep thinking they'll go for an actor with the exact same attributes as Craig. Usually, they shift directions when they recast. We had 15 years of brutish Bond. They'll probably go suaver next time around.

by Anonymousreply 531October 26, 2021 11:17 PM

Suave = Tom Bateman

by Anonymousreply 532October 26, 2021 11:35 PM

by Anonymousreply 543October 28, 2021 5:25 PM

Dean Charles Chapman looks like he's 14

by Anonymousreply 544October 28, 2021 6:26 PM

The name's Bond...

by Anonymousreply 545October 29, 2021 6:49 AM

R542 just described Joe Alwyn.

by Anonymousreply 546October 29, 2021 4:26 PM

If Alwyn gets Taylor Swift AND Bond, Tom Hiddleston is going to have him killed.

by Anonymousreply 547October 29, 2021 4:38 PM

Alwyn is so bland-looking. There's nothing distinctive about his features. He's handsome in the way that those computer-generated "average Englishman" pictures are.

by Anonymousreply 548October 29, 2021 4:49 PM

Alex Russell. Rugged and purty.

by Anonymousreply 549October 29, 2021 5:12 PM

I don't think Alwyn is bland looking, and he is a very good actor.

by Anonymousreply 550October 29, 2021 7:08 PM

Alwyn doesn't come across as tough enough for me.

by Anonymousreply 551October 29, 2021 7:32 PM

And you thought Pierce Brosnan was?

by Anonymousreply 552October 29, 2021 7:40 PM

He comes across as tougher than Alwyn, at least

by Anonymousreply 553October 29, 2021 7:41 PM

I don’t think they’ll go back to debonair yet. Anyway, some of these guys have two years to bulk up.

by Anonymousreply 554October 29, 2021 9:56 PM

Will Payne or David Witts

by Anonymousreply 555October 29, 2021 10:36 PM

Tom Bateman. But he'd have to bulk up. He doesn't seem the type who'd enjoy being tied down to that franchise. Same with James Norton. He'd be a really good choice, though.

by Anonymousreply 556October 29, 2021 10:42 PM

I thought of Orlando Bloom today and he wouldn't be half-bad, except he can't act.

by Anonymousreply 557November 12, 2021 10:19 PM

They'll cast a trans, or a female, to avoid the protests.

by Anonymousreply 558November 12, 2021 10:20 PM

R558 must live in a parallel universe where trans actors are being cast in action movie leads. The freepers here never stop looking for excuses to bitch about trans people

by Anonymousreply 559November 12, 2021 10:22 PM

Have you seen Orlando lately? No.

by Anonymousreply 560November 12, 2021 10:32 PM

Orlando is looking hard for some reason…

by Anonymousreply 561November 13, 2021 8:12 PM

They should at least cast Orlando's dick.

by Anonymousreply 562November 13, 2021 8:18 PM

Doesn’t he have the herpes?

by Anonymousreply 563November 13, 2021 8:22 PM

Stop pretending it won't be Cavill

by Anonymousreply 564November 14, 2021 1:18 AM

Orlando's dick is so fine. I vote for that.

Cavill is a bore and is already associated with tons of other big characters.

I think the Craig model is the way they will go--a known, up-and-coming, well-respected young actor who is really "male". It won't be anyone remotely "pretty" or boyish.

by Anonymousreply 565November 14, 2021 2:50 AM

LICENSE TO KILL had the best Bond theme song. Thanks to Gladys Knight

by Anonymousreply 566November 14, 2021 8:12 PM

I think Pegler is a possibility…lower right hand of photo. The body and the mustache makes him look like sex on a stick.

by Anonymousreply 567November 14, 2021 8:16 PM

Pegler is a dreadful name. What is his mother's maiden name?

by Anonymousreply 568November 14, 2021 9:12 PM

Who is this Pegler guy? He's hot

by Anonymousreply 569November 14, 2021 9:13 PM

Girls! Hoult is way too baby-faced and Bateman is cross-eyed.

Joe Alwyn? Looks like he couldn't kick a cat properly never mind play a gun-wielding international sex symbol assassin, plus all that Taylor Swift baggage - there is such thing as "too famous" a partner and she is it. You don't want WAGS overshadowing the main actor.

Clive Standen looks interesting but as stated he'd need to lean out, lose a few pounds. He could do it. Hardy is a great actor but has the Venom thing, would audiences go for a Bond who's also currently playing a vicious cannibal horror alien? Plus he hates doing press and the gobs of media appearances won't be his thing.

Hiddleston loves press and would adore all the hullabaloo and media circus every few years, but he's not right for the part (not butch enough).

I love Idris and think the Bridgerton guy could pull it off, but it needs to be re-stated that producers won't risk alienating the Asian market, and they won't go for a non-white Bond.

Someone mentioned Bale: way too old, he's turning 48 in a few weeks and looks every bit of it. Too brooding, plus he's insulted the role in interviews in the past. Too affiliated with Batman, plus he wouldn't be tied to the filming schedule which would interfere with his indie roles and serious acting career.

I hate to say it, it's not my first choice but: Cavill ticks off many of the boxes, esp for Broccoli who I believe wants to keep the upper-crusty, white handsome male Brit thing going. If they can get Chris McQuarrie to direct, it could be a decent throwback to the action-y but lighter/suaver Brosnan-era Bond, which I where I feel BB wants to go. McQuarrie did wonders with Henry in the MI films and they got on very well.

by Anonymousreply 570November 14, 2021 9:22 PM

Brosnan has charm. He has some range. Cavill has none.

by Anonymousreply 571November 14, 2021 9:29 PM

Cavill was Superman and, worse yet, Napoleon Solo in a Bond spoof super agent movie that megaflopped, plus he's a very limited actor.

by Anonymousreply 572November 14, 2021 10:18 PM

He's also toplining another spy spoof for Matthew Vaughn. There's no prestige nor new discovery aspect to Cavill.

by Anonymousreply 573November 14, 2021 10:19 PM

I'm looking for a comeback!

by Anonymousreply 574November 14, 2021 10:31 PM

Henry Golding?

Cavill is not interesting. At all.

by Anonymousreply 575November 14, 2021 10:54 PM

Apparently, there have been lots of betting activities in recent days on Tom Hopper being the chosen one.

[quote] lots of betting activities

Meaningless when it comes to forecasting the new Bond.

by Anonymousreply 577November 14, 2021 11:03 PM

James Norton would be better than Hopper

by Anonymousreply 578November 14, 2021 11:14 PM

Most of the pictures I've seen of Clive Standen feature scruff or a beard. He doesn't look as good when he's clean-shaven, so I don't know if that's a problem. (This is not a recent picture, but it's fairly Bond-like.)

I hear a whisper in the inner circles that Chris Hemsworth is a frontrunner if the one already chosen falls through..

Australians are as good as British with regard to Bond.

You heard it here first!

by Anonymousreply 580November 16, 2021 12:55 AM

I doubt Chris is in with a chance.

by Anonymousreply 581November 16, 2021 12:57 AM

Craig isn't tall so... what about Jon Snow? Didn't he do an espionage movie before?

by Anonymousreply 582November 16, 2021 12:58 AM

If you’re referring to Kit Harrington, he’s now in the MCU, so he’s out.

by Anonymousreply 583November 16, 2021 1:02 AM

Jon Snow aka Kit Harrington is like 5'4".

by Anonymousreply 584November 16, 2021 1:18 AM

Is that her real name Barbara Broccoli? Is she married, did she have a choice to take his name or keep hers. I don't care about James Bond at the moment I just want to understand why she goes by Broccoli.

by Anonymousreply 585November 16, 2021 1:35 AM

James Norton has Diabetes Type 1. I wonder how that affects him when he does actions scenes. I know one of the complaints from Craig was that the Bond role was physically demanding.

by Anonymousreply 586November 16, 2021 1:40 AM

Roger Moore would send in the stunt men for anything more strenuous than getting out of a car.

by Anonymousreply 587November 16, 2021 1:49 AM

And the American people will never elect a Black president.

Give it a break, will you? Asians will take whatever entertainment sent their way; besides, who loves basketball and the NBA more than the Chinese?

I swear some of you will play the race card in the middle of a game of tiddly winks.

by Anonymousreply 588November 16, 2021 5:57 AM

[quote] Asians will take whatever entertainment sent their way; besides, who loves basketball and the NBA more than the Chinese?

It depends. China banned Marvel's Shang-Chi (with its all-Asian cast) because they said it made China look bad and America look good although that's up for debate. China also bans effeminate men which means Bond cannot be gay and probably not played by a gay actor (hello Richard Madden).

About China not accepting a Black Bond, that may not be true. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is extremely popular in China. Even his bombs make money there. Johnson is half-black.

[quote] In the last decade, the former professional wrestler has become one of the most popular and consistently bankable American stars in China, a brawny and exuberant leading man who powers hits like “San Andreas,” “Rampage,” and the “Fast and Furious” sequels.

R570 Where are you getting this? First of all, she said she's been in denial, putting the whole decision off for a as long as possible. And if you look at where they went with choosing Craig, it was a departure. Truth is, nobody knows where BB wants to go, including BB, herself.

[quote]If anything, Broccoli and Wilson’s experience with Craig has emboldened them to shake up the Bond formula.

I would bet your inheritance that The Rock is not perceived as in any way black by the Chinese.

by Anonymousreply 591November 16, 2021 12:10 PM

I think that they should go with an Australian this time. The current crop of Aussie actors are all cute, buff and quite masculine.

by Anonymousreply 592November 16, 2021 1:52 PM

I’d second Luke Pegler but he’s not that well known. Not outside of Australian movies.

by Anonymousreply 593November 16, 2021 7:30 PM

I don't see it.

You know, there are TWO Broccolis. Michael G. Wilson, Cubby’s wife’s child from a previous marriage, was raised like Cubby’s son.

by Anonymousreply 595November 16, 2021 8:32 PM

by Anonymousreply 598November 17, 2021 2:48 PM

OK. All the names that have been floated and I haven't seen Max Irons name and at 36 he'd be a perfect Bond...Maybe he could get his father to play a Bond villain. Jeremy is brilliant.
