Watros headlined GL's last good year, IMO.

When Annie was first introduced, she was a snooze. I thought pairing her with Robert Newman was a mistake because even though I always thought he was a hot daddy, he wasn't exactly high energy. Yet over time as the storyline ramped up and Watros got her groove, I couldn't wait to see what Annie would do next. I loved the period when she and crazy-ass Dinah were friends.

I recently did a re-watch of that entire storyline and it still holds up.

That trollop CZP never even knew who the fathers of her kids were. She screwed anyone and everyone.

I think if Doug Marland hadn’t died in 1993, he would have been pushed out of ATWT around 1995 or so, when P&G shuffled all the EPs around.

He probably would have ended up writing OLTL or GH again, and then get pushed out of there when Brian Frons’ reign of terror began around 2001.

Zimmer and Forbes generally did not get along.

Zimmer and Watros were friends before and after Cynthia was on GL, but they worked a lot together on GL and some of the animosity from the characters spilled over. They were at each other's throats sometimes. There's a video somewhere of them throwing shit at each other.

Theater companies/acting troupes are like a cross between a family and a group of coworkers - even if you love them, they can get on your last fucking nerve sometimes.

I think part of what rubbed Zimmer the wrong way was Watros' age - not that Watros could help that (her age) but Zimmer felt at times like Watros would purposely throw the fact that she was younger in her face.

For example, Watros grew up watching the show and often gushed about meeting and knowing the actors. She's not directly saying anything bad, but Zimmer would take it like an indirect veiled dig at their ages.

The thing about Zimmer was that she could throw down and get dirty with the best of them, but breathe one word of criticism or anything her way, and she'd turn on the water works and become victim victim victim.

Zimmer wouldn't take a pay cut so others allegedly had to be fired.

They asked Zimmer to take a pay cut in the middle of her contract cycle, so I don't blame her one bit for refusing. She fulfilled her part of the deal, and so should they. She did say she would've taken a cut if it was when a new contract was being negotated.

R106 I respect that, and she was right. The only possible excuse for asking that of an actor would be if it was a situation where they had to take a cut or the entire show folds.

Zimmer was probably a little threatened, for sure.

I remember Watros sharing a story several times (most recently when she joined GH) about their first scenes together at GL once Zimmer was there. Watros was giving it her all in an early rehearsal and Zimmer, used to saving energy for a performance, was not thrilled, telling her "do you have to fucking ACT so early in the morning?"

Around the final year of the Reva/Annie feud, Zimmer gave an interview to Digest or Weekly that talked about a lot of things, including her struggles to lose weight and stay thin. She quoted Beverlee McKinsey, who used to say very complimentary things to Zimmer, and basically said, Oh, I get it now. Here I am looking around at Cynthia, and Laura Wright, and Wendy Moniz, and seeing THEM become the pretty young things. And she said she finally understood that mix of admiration, support but yet some sadness and regret.

Cynthia has set the record that there was never any feud between her and Kim Zimmer. Last year in an interview she said

"I just want to set the record straight. I left GL and I was stunned, because there was some article that surfaced that said, “Kim Zimmer and Cynthia Watros had a real fight!” That is so not true, unless Kim remembers something I don’t remember! (Laughs) There was never, ever a fight. We had to bicker so much as our characters on-screen, but I respected Kim. I admired her, and I was in awe of her, and her talent. I have nothing but good feelings for this woman. I was honored to have worked with her, and blessed that she left me do the things I did to her on-camera. She was so patient with me. When I first started at GL, I was a super enthusiastic actress who would go into rehearsal, and would know my lines, and would be screaming at her. It was six o’clock in the morning, and I would be screaming at her as Annie. Kim would just take it (laughs) and I just love her for that. I think I spit on her a couple of times on-camera and she didn’t say anything; because this was about the characters we had to play. Kim was a professional, and she loved me through it. So when I read that stuff, and I see sometimes it randomly appears, I just want to clarify, once and for all … it did not happen."

What Cynthia said at R109 may be essentially true (and I remember that printing in Digest when she took over the role of Nina). She and Kim overall did not have a feud.

But they did have a few bad mornings - there was video that floated around for years of them throwing shit at each other and it wasn't a scene they were filming.

Whether that was them having to get into the mental state Reva and Annie had to be in, or just two coworkers who were too through with each other for a minute, they had a few flare ups.

Yeah I think this all gets generalized to death and we'll never know for sure. Even the actors re-telling of it is affected by time and their own narrative of what they wanted the relationship to be. She's not going to sling mud in retrospect, even if in the moment there were some flare-ups, however fleeting (or not) they were.

It seems strange to me that GH has never brought Zimmer on for at least a small role, with LW and now CW on the show. I love Gladys on there, but I could have really seen Zimmer in that role.

I think she's having a lot of issues - I think she gave in completely to the drinking issues she was dealing with. In the Locher Room where she appeared with her son Jake, he looked like he wanted to crawl out of his skin most of the time when she was talking. Something is off there.

For a network and producer(s) who have no time to fuck around, an actress like that, regardless of prior achievements, would be far more trouble than they're worth.

And she was a known shit stirrer behind the scenes. She's not the type to just come in and do her job. She's used to running the show and throwing her weight around (pun intended) and, as noted, who wants to deal with that?

I also think a lot of soap actors are/were functioning alcoholics, especially the east coast ones when they were in NY. It was so much easier to finish tape and then walk to a bar, unlike the west coast where everything requires logistics to drive and get somewhere. Imagine getting trashed every day with your co-stars and then having to do it all again the next day. Lots of drinking in the dressing rooms and drugging on some sets, GL in particular.

Vee, who’s in the biz, will not put up with Zimmer’s antics. He has blocked her from appearing on the remaining soaps. Vee is in the biz, you know.

I've always been curious how soap folks are allowed to let themselves go versus actors in tv/film where they gain an ounce and get a talking to from the show runners. I couldn't believe Zimmer and Jordan Clarke in the finale. She's in a mumu and lordy poor Maeve Kinkead in her final scenes with Jordan Clarke - with the height differential she basically said her last lines straight into a pot belly.

Not to get technical, but Watros was not on contract when she first started at GL as Annie. She just a few lines here and there. It is only when they decided to explore a Josh/Annie romance that she was put on contract. Zimmer was fat long before the finale - I think the serious weight gain started in about 1996.
