Did he finish filming his SATC scenes???
Think SJP is still so self-involved she didn't learn from the Cattrall dustup?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 22, 2021 1:07 AM |
Seems like he did finish filming, OP
[quote]“The ‘Sex and the City’ family has lost one of its own. Our amazing Willie Garson,” Michael Patrick King, the executive producer of “SATC” and “And Just Like That,” said in a statement. “His spirit and his dedication to his craft was present every day filming ‘And Just Like That.’ He was there — giving us his all — even while he was sick. His multitude of gifts as an actor and person will be missed by everyone. In this sad, dark moment we are comforted by our memory of his joy and light.”

Stanford was the most annoying "pet fag of a straight woman" stereotype I can think of, aka "gay man as accessory."
Fuck I hate that show.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 22, 2021 1:13 AM |
He did not finish. They have 6 more weeks of shooting and he was on the set as recently as last week. There will be some scrambling now to write his death into the series.

Yeah he was on set filming just a few days ago. Mario Cantone was filming just two or three days ago.
I wonder if they will write his death into the show.

by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 22, 2021 1:26 AM |
I AM genuinely sorry he died that young.
Now....have his heterosexual lovers commented?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 22, 2021 1:28 AM |
He was always straight. My stepdad met him back before he was on SATC during the early 90s more than once. Years later he saw him on SATC in passing because my mother watched it and he said “he’s playing a f*g? He’s straight. I met him numerous times around 1992/1993”. I said ITS CALLED ACTING.
What a jerk.
He’s calmed down a lot now that he’s in his later 50s.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 22, 2021 1:34 AM |
While it's sad that he died, I think I'm more surprised that he had a son.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 22, 2021 1:36 AM |
I'm sorry he died, but the Stanford character was a gay minstrel show.

That’s how SJP views gays.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 22, 2021 1:40 AM |
Adopted son is now 19. Willie adopted him in 2009. He dealt with his illness privately. One article I read said he’d been dealing with it for a few years and another said his diagnosis was recent. That’s all we need to know.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 22, 2021 1:40 AM |
R1 well, he’s her best friend in real life and their kids are best friends. I think she’s allowed to grieve and offer condolences. Cunt Cattrall should die in a grease fire. SJP’s business partner and friend died last week.

by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 22, 2021 1:46 AM |
I thought he was great in There’s Something About Mary. He also had one of the best lines in Sex & the City when he said, “she’s fashion roadkill!” when Carrie fell on the runway. I still laugh at that scene.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 22, 2021 1:48 AM |
SJP probably is more worried about the rewritten scripts that will have to happen now than his actual death.

by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 22, 2021 1:58 AM |
I don't give even ONE FUCK if straight actors play gay characters, or gay actors play straight characters. It's called ACTING, your little show is filmed entertainment, not the ghost of Martin Luther King!
He seemed to have a very busy, fun career, and worked until the very end. I'd like to think that made it easier for him.

[quote]Willie. I don’t understand. And it’s not fair. This past year, you taught me so much about courage and resilience and love. I still haven’t wrapped my head around a world without you in it- where I can’t call you when I need to laugh, or be inspired. The last thing you did when we said goodbye was pull down your mask (I hate covid), smile, and wink at me. I know that it wasn’t reflective of the pain you were going through, but it was indicative of everything you were and are to me: some one who lifted me up, who made me better, and who always, always made me smile. This also reminded me how strong our White Collar family is. We were all there for Willie, and for each other. I love you forever Willie Garson. You live on in our hearts and minds always: and your White Collar family is always here for Nathen. Save a place for me, because you know I want to be at your table up there.

I'm assuming he didn't tell the production that his issues were this serious. Either that or they were so desperate from the lack of Kim Cattrall that they grabbed all the better known bit characters they could to shoehorn into the show.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 22, 2021 2:19 AM |
They were never gonna not have Stanford. He was a recurring character throughout the original series, not some one episode guest 🙄

And if he said nothing people would have wondered what was up because he worked with the guy for 6 years on a show where their two characters had a lot of scenes with just the two of them.
Also I'm pretty sure that cast was genuinely close and really do still talk to one another. It was the highlight of both of their careers so yes, Garson was gonna' get more than a, "Bye girl! Miss u!"

When Kim Cattrall read the script, she discovered her 60+ character would be sexting Miranda’s teenage son, Brody Hobbes Brody.
She asked if that could be changed. The producers declined. So Kim declined to take the role.
That’s not so much “wicked” as “sane” to me, but YMMV.

Why does everyone have to fixate on whether the gay characters we see on tv count as ‘stereotypes’? They share character associations with gay people we all are or know in real life, the only reason these are called stereotypes is because straight society has taught us that these characteristics are to be embarrassed about or ashamed of, once you change your thinking of that it won’t bother you so much.

R99 That article is too funny because I remember reading that the owners of the MB brand did not love their shoes becoming popular amongst a demographic of women they didn't feel 'represented the brand well at all' and they placed the blame on the popularity of the show.
This was in the aughts, so they must've had a change of heart, or a large infusion of cash from SJP.

SJP just put out a huge "in memoriam" for her favorite shoe salesman, so she wants to finish milking that and then she'll release her statement so she can have back to back sympathy for her losses. Also the writer she normally uses is on vacation.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | September 22, 2021 10:20 PM |
In memoriam social posts are, at best, a way of informing folks that someone had died and a nice gesture and, at worst, performative.
Better that she should be supporting his son and other survivors at this time.

It's weird that you think that's the only thing he ever did.
He was a staple on TV for decades. NYPD Blue, Touched by an Angel, Mr. Belvadere, Newheart, My Two Dads, Star Trek Voyager, Melrose Place, etc.
Character actor, yes but he worked constantly.
I remember him back on Quantum Leap a couple of times from when I was a child and all of that was before SATC or even White Collar.
He will be missed.

R109- He wasn't effeminate like Jack or Richard Simmons but he was still a stereotype. by Anonymous | reply 202 | September 24, 2021 5:41 PM |
Still nothing.
I find it wild that she couldn't have at least posted something that said she was still processing and would be making a full statement later. She's been in the public eye a long time; she knows how to handle this. She just published a huge in memoriam for her favorite shoe salesman, of all people.
I don't really care about celebrities publicly mourning alleged friends and coworkers. It's just hypocritical to do it at the drop of a hat, publicly, all the time, and then suddenly lose your voice when you've created an expectation.
I don't actually care about Sex and the City that much, I haven't even seen the two movies. The show was good at the time but got tiresome the last few seasons, I think when SJP more fully took it over (as seems to happen a lot in shows with a primary star). And I didn't really a strong opinion on SJP except that she seemed like a bit of a diva and prone to cliquish behavior (based on the published gossip I'd read occasionally as well as the fact that she seems to have really, really hurt Kim Cattrall privately, but only made attempts to smooth things over in public).
by Anonymous | reply 203 | September 24, 2021 5:42 PM |

SJP learned her lesson when she reached out to Kim via social media. She’s probably (hopefully!) contacting Garson’s family privately before going into her whole, orchestrated Sturm und Drang on social media, any day now.

r204 If YOU have heard enough, then perhaps you should find another thread to tsk-tsk, because SJP has (publicly) claimed to be one of Willie's close friends (as she has many other people), and her silence on this - when she seems prone to public displays (she just made one! for her shoe salesman!) - is glaring.

Is it real, is it true melodrama, is it what she thinks 'a star' must deliver, is it brand? I don't know. It's like we must know how awful she feels and experience it too. She's not the widow. He was 50 something. Early but not twenty-five. I'm sorry she didn't have the sense of self to express her feelings publicly with sincere, simple dignity, focused on him, both times. Objectively, the descriptions seem excessive to me, even if sincere.

by Anonymous | reply 240 | October 2, 2021 1:20 PM |
No disrespect to Willie Garson, but Stanford was always a very minor supporting character who mostly existed to fetch Carrie's Fendi purse and wipe her tears. I think the reboot will manage fine without him.
I'm just wondering how they're going to explain his character's sudden absence on the heels of 1) Carrie's divorce from Big and 2) Samantha's absence, which is most likely a death from cancer, if online sources are to be believed.
by Anonymous | reply 241 | October 2, 2021 1:51 PM |

Samantha isn’t dead but Mr Big is. That was leaked by someone who worked on the show. Noth was paid $5 million just to shoot a few scenes. 2 more months of shooting remain and John Corbett still hasn’t filmed.
by Anonymous | reply 247 | October 8, 2021 12:36 PM |
r247, believe that source who leaked that info.
Noth seemed credible to me when he commented that he was adamant about not returning. But then he veered into rote publicity-speak when he said that the producers insisted he read the script and after he read it he was sold on appearing.
I translate that to, "I asked for Big Dough-Ray-mee and got it" and he also may have insisted, before he signed it, that his contract promise his character would be killed off.
