Robert Buckley is dead to me

Richard Buckley has died at the age of 72.

The fashion editor and longtime love of designer Tom Ford passed away on Sunday (September 19) at their home in Los Angeles.

Tom's fashion brand announced the devastating news with an official statement to Vogue.

“It is with great sadness that Tom Ford announces the death of his beloved husband of 35 years, Richard Buckley,” the company said. “Richard passed away peacefully at their home in Los Angeles last night with Tom and their son Jack by his side. He died of natural causes after a prolonged illness.”

Richard was named the editor-in-chief of Vogue Hommes International back in 1999 after writing for various newspapers and magazines for years.

Tom, 60, and Richard got married back in 2014 and they were together for 35 years.

We're sending our thoughts and condolences to Richard's loved ones during this difficult time.

^^Richard not Robert

by Anonymousreply 1September 21, 2021 4:19 AM

Well he already looked dead, so this worked out well for him.

by Anonymousreply 2September 21, 2021 4:22 AM

That's sad. He seemed like a nice guy.

by Anonymousreply 3September 21, 2021 4:22 AM

Poor Tom. He seemed devoted to him.

by Anonymousreply 4September 21, 2021 4:25 AM

Dang, OP, you scared me for a second there!

Sorry it was an old guy...

Me too, R5!

by Anonymousreply 6September 21, 2021 4:34 AM

Cool, now Tom can hook up with a hot twink

by Anonymousreply 7September 21, 2021 4:36 AM

Tom seems aspies

by Anonymousreply 8September 21, 2021 4:38 AM
Cool, now Tom can hook up with a hot twink

Tom. Call me. Director to director. Pool party in your honor after an appropriate mourning period.

by Anonymousreply 9September 21, 2021 4:39 AM

That's horrible. I feel for their son.

by Anonymousreply 10September 21, 2021 4:39 AM

Does this mean that Tom's Faustian bargain is done?

by Anonymousreply 11September 21, 2021 4:42 AM
I feel for their son.

Jeff?

by Anonymousreply 12September 21, 2021 4:43 AM

He probably has dealt with a chronic illness privately for a while, which would explain the extreme weight loss and overall look of frailness in the last decade. I feel so sorry for Tom. You know he really loved him, because he could've had anyone he wanted. Also 35 is like 70 in gay years.

by Anonymousreply 13September 21, 2021 4:43 AM

Yeah, Tom Ford one of the few who really stuck by his other half when hot guy literally throwing themselves at him for a chance to be one of his models.

by Anonymousreply 14September 21, 2021 4:48 AM

I bet he was a cute kid.

by Anonymousreply 15September 21, 2021 4:53 AM

Richard was diagnosed with cancer back in 1987, only a few months after he and Tom moved in together.

Tom was at the MET Gala last Monday???

by Anonymousreply 17September 21, 2021 4:57 AM

I like Tom Fords stuff, I wish he designed more for men but it's sooooooo damn expensive really out of my budget.

by Anonymousreply 18September 21, 2021 5:05 AM

Tom looks great for 60. Husband looked ancient

by Anonymousreply 19September 21, 2021 5:10 AM

By the looks of Tom Ford's husband he probably had cancer.

by Anonymousreply 20September 21, 2021 5:12 AM

Tom once took my hand at Bloomingdales. We walked around together for a while, then he realized his mistake and we both had a laugh.

by Anonymousreply 21September 21, 2021 5:13 AM

He never looked healthy and looked way older than 72.

This is also another example of why having a kid in your 60’s is not a good idea. Now his son has already lost one parent.

by Anonymousreply 22September 21, 2021 5:22 AM

Richard Buckley had a long terrible illness--I never found out exactly what it was, but it explains his wasted appearance for the last 20 years.

by Anonymousreply 23September 21, 2021 5:24 AM
This is also another example of why having a kid in your 60’s is not a good idea. Now his son has already lost one parent.

But they're so chic!

Plus, you can hand them off to nannies--no muss, no fuss!

by Anonymousreply 24September 21, 2021 5:25 AM
Now his son has already lost one parent.

Which one was the mother?

by Anonymousreply 25September 21, 2021 5:25 AM

R16 Richard who?

by Anonymousreply 26September 21, 2021 5:26 AM

Oh, I meant that as a slag on OP but forgot to sign.

by Anonymousreply 27September 21, 2021 5:27 AM

He looked hot at r16. I always thought he looked like a leprechaun with glaucoma. Still sad, though, especially with the young son. Hope Tom doesn't get slimy and get some 20-something dumb twink step-dad for him.

by Anonymousreply 28September 21, 2021 5:42 AM
when hot guy [bold]literally[/bold] throwing themselves at him for a chance to be one of his models.

That word... I do not think it means what you think it means...

by Anonymousreply 29September 21, 2021 5:52 AM

long illness = AIDS

by Anonymousreply 30September 21, 2021 9:29 AM

R30 thanks, cryptkeeper from the 90s.

by Anonymousreply 31September 21, 2021 10:08 AM

Lol at Bar Bush @r2. An even bigger bitch in the hereafter.

by Anonymousreply 32September 21, 2021 2:47 PM

Oh, my. He was handsome at r16.

by Anonymousreply 33September 21, 2021 2:50 PM

No wonder Tom was disheveled and beside himself at his last fashion show. This is heartbreaking.

RiP

by Anonymousreply 34September 21, 2021 2:54 PM

What is the basis for believing a December from the ice age, inured in the world of fashion, is somehow a particularly nice person?

by Anonymousreply 35September 21, 2021 2:55 PM

Aww, I hadn't seen this news until just now. Poor Tom, he must be bereft losing him after being together that long.

by Anonymousreply 36September 21, 2021 2:55 PM

One of the oddest gay pairings I've very seen.

by Anonymousreply 37September 21, 2021 3:00 PM

Especially when you think how shallow Tom Ford seems to be. I wonder if the old man had lots of money before Tom had lots of his own?

by Anonymousreply 38September 21, 2021 3:02 PM
We're sending our thoughts and condolences to Richard's loved ones during this difficult time.

“Thoughts and condolences”? Surely simply condolences should be enough.

by Anonymousreply 39September 21, 2021 3:05 PM

R22 Christ, that’s such a cynical view, children lose parents of all ages, they just did a special on all the 9/11 kids 20 years later who had a parent die before they were even born.

by Anonymousreply 40September 21, 2021 3:06 PM

The old man had influence. But then again if money could buy a 35-year loving relationship, I believe that it's really worth it.

by Anonymousreply 41September 21, 2021 3:07 PM

R21 Thanks for the wonder laugh, it made my tummy hurt and feel like a little girl.

by Anonymousreply 42September 21, 2021 3:09 PM

I take it back after viewing the image in R16. I'd never seen a photo of Buckley when he was young and well, only ones in which he looked old.

It speaks well of Tom for staying with him.

Apologies.

by Anonymousreply 43September 21, 2021 3:13 PM

Buckley and Tom looked so fine in R16. Condolences to Tom.

by Anonymousreply 44September 21, 2021 3:20 PM

If it wasn't for this Chinese plague pandemic, he would still be alive. So many people, dogs and cats with chronic diseases have died because their doctors can't be bothered to see their patients.

by Anonymousreply 45September 21, 2021 3:21 PM

Sounds like some of you guys would ditch your partner immediately if he got sick and lost his looks. Kudos to Tom!

by Anonymousreply 46September 21, 2021 3:45 PM

Richard Buckley = BYE FELECIA !!💀

Horrific, VILE, pretentious CUNT

Paris, Fall/Winter Men's Collections 2000 = was attending the shows & buying appointments with my bf at the time (& his business partner). I was only 21 at the time and new to that entire world of fashion.

I was standing in line for the restroom , bundled up freezing, after the JPG show and I'd noticed Skeletor standing in front of me and had seen her gaunt, scary face at all the shows we'd been to, & he seemed to speak english and so I attempted to make polite small talk, thinking he was american and we'd have that in common etc

I said "hello, I've noticed we've attended the same shows this week. What do you think of what we've seen?!l".

"Excuse me ?? Who are YOU, and why are you speaking to me?! I'm not going to talk to YOU!" said with a haughty, putrid scowl on his face.

Well, I was soon informed that he was Tom Fords lover & a fashion journalist. (As well as having a nasty reputation as a total prima donna cunt).

Tom I guarantee is already discreetly posted on Scruff

by Anonymousreply 47September 21, 2021 4:33 PM

BUMP

by Anonymousreply 48September 21, 2021 4:39 PM

35 is a long time for even straight relationships.

by Anonymousreply 49September 21, 2021 5:15 PM

Bitch stole my act.

They were together for ages, which is admirable but it’s not like Tom kept it in his pants the whole time. I assume they had an open relationship. Tom hit on a gay coworker of mine in the 90s. I’d be surprised if he didn’t fuck the occasional male model over the years.

by Anonymousreply 51September 21, 2021 5:30 PM

R47 7/10

by Anonymousreply 52September 21, 2021 5:33 PM
“Thoughts and condolences”? Surely simply condolences should be enough.

Miss Susan Dey will only condolence (singular) and she does not send "thoughts". And she will do that only after the determination is made about whether the deceased is the hot actor or the skeletal old fashionista.

by Anonymousreply 53September 21, 2021 5:35 PM

It's really hard to care about this. Tom Ford has all the warmth of Martha Stewart. If you locked a hundred of DLs muses/victims in a room with us, I think Ford would be second only to Andy Cohen in clawing at the door screaming to get out. The old man was known to most of us for what appeared to be against all odds longevity. So wrap him up in some nori and commit the remains to the Tom Ford suit bag or wherever he will spend eternity.

by Anonymousreply 54September 21, 2021 5:40 PM

The way Tom talked about their first meeting on the elevator, it seemed he saw his way into the fashion world. It seemed more a business relationship than a marriage. If it worked for them, then more power to them. Everybody has different wants and needs.

And please STFU with the open relationship crap, I don't know a gay male couple who has been together even that long that doesn't have an open relationship. Or at least one thinks so.

by Anonymousreply 55September 21, 2021 6:15 PM

WHET to the hot Robert Buckley, the actor?

by Anonymousreply 56September 21, 2021 6:38 PM

Loved him on One Tree Hill

by Anonymousreply 57September 22, 2021 4:19 AM
He probably has dealt with a chronic illness privately for a while

HIV?

by Anonymousreply 58September 22, 2021 4:22 AM

Maybe Tom will return to his Texas roots and take up with another Buckley "of a certain age," Betty.

by Anonymousreply 59September 22, 2021 4:23 AM

R47 memorably rude. But people who have higher profiles can have their guard up after being grifted all their lives.

by Anonymousreply 60September 22, 2021 5:01 AM

The quote in R47 is from the Purple Prose handbook of the Sheboygan Conservatory of mid-20th C class-based narrative, categories: Broad Satire and Woman's Pictures.

by Anonymousreply 61September 22, 2021 10:14 AM

R55) I’ve been with my husband for 37 years, and I can assure you, we do not have an open relationship.
