Open it, pour a glass. Smell it. If it smells off, throw it out. Taste it. If it tastes off throw it out.

Also lactose reduced milk, "fresh", not UHT, lasts for 3+ weeks.

I find organic milk lasts a pretty long time, if unopened. Even opened, after the expiration date..it usually is fine.

Smell it, or take a little taste first.

Usually, it is the fats in milk that go bad. Ultra-pasteurized can last for months.

Duh it will probably start to smell and taste weird with out opening it. Prepare to throw it away.

I get a small carton or pint of whipping cream for emergencies when I run out of milk. It lasts like a month unopened and you only need a little but for your coffee.

The rest you can whip up and use it on fruit.
