I have a half-gallon of 2% milk I've never opened

The expiration date is August 26th. Is it still safe to drink? Is the exp. date only applicable if it's opened?

by Anonymousreply 27October 5, 2021 5:02 AM

Absolutely op. The expiration date means nothing unless you’ve opened it. Enjoy!

Drink it and see.

Can I have your stuff? Someone else can have your dolls made from human hair though.

Time stops in its tracks when a container is not opened.

by Anonymousreply 3September 20, 2021 2:42 AM

Open it, pour a glass. Smell it. If it smells off, throw it out. Taste it. If it tastes off throw it out.

by Anonymousreply 4September 20, 2021 2:44 AM

UHT or fresh?

by Anonymousreply 5September 20, 2021 2:44 AM

Also lactose reduced milk, "fresh", not UHT, lasts for 3+ weeks.

by Anonymousreply 6September 20, 2021 2:45 AM

What is UHT?

by Anonymousreply 7September 20, 2021 2:50 AM

Universal Ho Time, R7. You of all people should know that.

by Anonymousreply 8September 20, 2021 2:52 AM

Open it and drink it without smelling it. Let us know how it turns out.

by Anonymousreply 9September 20, 2021 2:56 AM

Open it and place it in the sun for a day to sterilize it, OP.

by Anonymousreply 10September 20, 2021 2:58 AM

If it turned you can enjoy it as chunky lemon milk.

Give some to the Help and if they are still alive in the morning then bottoms up!

Chuck it the day it expires! Fruit the same!

by Anonymousreply 14September 20, 2021 4:42 AM

So I finally opened it and it was bad. Not horrible bad, but it had turned sour. Live and learn...

by Anonymousreply 15October 4, 2021 10:01 PM

OMG R1 puts the cunt in 'cunt'.

by Anonymousreply 16October 4, 2021 10:04 PM

That's like natural yogurt OP, just eat it!

by Anonymousreply 17October 4, 2021 10:07 PM

I find organic milk lasts a pretty long time, if unopened. Even opened, after the expiration date..it usually is fine.

by Anonymousreply 18October 4, 2021 10:32 PM

Smell it, or take a little taste first.

by Anonymousreply 19October 4, 2021 10:34 PM

Rub it on your mussy. If it burns, it might be good for an infection, but don’t drink it.

by Anonymousreply 20October 4, 2021 10:41 PM

Bathe your neighbor Joel in it.

by Anonymousreply 21October 4, 2021 10:57 PM

Most organic milk available has been ultra-pasteurized to increase its shelf life.

That's not a good thing.

Usually, it is the fats in milk that go bad. Ultra-pasteurized can last for months.

by Anonymousreply 23October 4, 2021 11:19 PM

Duh it will probably start to smell and taste weird with out opening it. Prepare to throw it away.

by Anonymousreply 24October 4, 2021 11:26 PM

What was the year of the expiration date?

by Anonymousreply 25October 4, 2021 11:37 PM

1811

by Anonymousreply 26October 5, 2021 4:57 AM

I get a small carton or pint of whipping cream for emergencies when I run out of milk. It lasts like a month unopened and you only need a little but for your coffee.

The rest you can whip up and use it on fruit.
