Unbelievable As A "Lady's Man"

Larry from "Three Is Company" is too ugly to attract the women he had

Others?

by Anonymousreply 115September 28, 2023 9:42 PM

Barney Stinson on HIMYM. The actor playing him was also too plain to attract women.

by Anonymousreply 1September 17, 2021 11:38 PM

Hawkeye from MASH

by Anonymousreply 2September 17, 2021 11:39 PM

Alex Rodriguez - I don't get it.

by Anonymousreply 3September 17, 2021 11:46 PM

r3

He choked

by Anonymousreply 4September 17, 2021 11:50 PM

Walter Matheau was ridiculously poor casting for the film where Ingrid Bergman was in love with him and Goldie Hawn was suicidal over him leaving her ( I'm having a momentary blank on the films title and am too lazy to google).

by Anonymousreply 5September 18, 2021 12:01 AM

The film was Cactus Flower

by Anonymousreply 6September 18, 2021 12:02 AM

r6

I disagree in part but I can see what you mean. Goldie was playing the part of a girl attracted to an older man who was rich, stable and well off, things she was not.

On the other hand both Goldie Hawn and Ingrid Bergman is way out of there. If the older woman had been more realistic, I think it would be better.

by Anonymousreply 7September 18, 2021 12:06 AM

Klinger was the crossdresser on MASH, Hawkeye was the obedient manservant :)

by Anonymousreply 8September 18, 2021 12:08 AM

Uhh who would Beleive Jack Tripper as a laides man? The premise of the show worked because it was Ritter pinged to high heaven.

by Anonymousreply 9September 18, 2021 12:08 AM

R9, Ritter always pinged to me on that show. I was surprised that when he died he left a family behind.

by Anonymousreply 10September 18, 2021 12:56 AM

Didn't Larry just wait for the ladies to get super liquored up at the Regal Beagle?

I always figured the ladies in that dive would consider any man a "Ladies Man" when he's not a midget, has all his teeth and hair and it's Last Call for the night.

by Anonymousreply 11September 18, 2021 1:01 AM

Inspector Morse was a bitter elderly alcoholic yet always had a lady who inevitably wound up dead.

by Anonymousreply 12September 18, 2021 1:04 AM

R12 Maybe that's why he was so bitter!

by Anonymousreply 13September 18, 2021 1:11 AM

r9 and r10 There was a book called " You'll Never Make Love in this Town Again." It was a bunch of recollections of LA hookers describing encounters with actors and other celebrities. There was a chapter about John Ritter and what a great client he was.

by Anonymousreply 14September 18, 2021 1:17 AM

Inspector Morse was a bitter elderly alcoholic yet always had a lady who inevitably wound up dead.

I could see Morse's appeal. He was smart, classy, not unattractive, soulful, and wounded. John Thaw was only 60 when he died, but yes, Morse always seemed older than that.

by Anonymousreply 15September 18, 2021 1:27 AM

Trump

by Anonymousreply 16September 18, 2021 1:28 AM

Neil Patrick Harris.

by Anonymousreply 17September 18, 2021 1:33 AM

Doc on the Love Boat was always scoring Barbi-Benton-types, but I'm not sure what he had to offer. Being a physician?

by Anonymousreply 18September 18, 2021 1:42 AM

Sam Malone

by Anonymousreply 19September 18, 2021 1:54 AM

John Ritter was "cute" in a way but was always a little too chubby. And he was IN NO WAY attractive enough to have every single woman on the show throwing themselves at him.

But you MIGHT believe him a lady's man whilst Larry was just awful.

by Anonymousreply 20September 18, 2021 2:20 PM

Elliot page

by Anonymousreply 21September 18, 2021 2:24 PM

Barney Fife. He was dating Juanita at the diner, Miss LouAnne Poovey, and of course Thelma Lou all at the same time. What a man-whore.

by Anonymousreply 22September 18, 2021 2:33 PM

r22

You're not wrong but again, in Mayberry what other choices were there? Howard? Goober?

by Anonymousreply 23September 18, 2021 8:07 PM

Dennis Leary on "Rescue Me".

Several ridiculously hot men on that show, yet fuggo Dennis was the one who had every woman supposedly throwing themselves at him, ready to kill themselves and each other over him, and seemingly unable to resist spontaneously ripping off their clothes and jumping on his always-hard dick at the mere sight of him.

by Anonymousreply 24September 18, 2021 8:15 PM

Scott Baio on Charles in Charge

by Anonymousreply 25September 19, 2021 8:33 AM

Matt LeBlanc as Joey on Friends. He is average looking at best, especially for downtown Manhatten. His face is too small and he was always a little pudgy.

by Anonymousreply 26September 19, 2021 8:52 AM

Good call with Matt LeBlanc. He may have been the "best" looking of the male Friends...but that ain't saying much.

by Anonymousreply 27September 19, 2021 10:27 AM

Seinfeld

by Anonymousreply 28September 19, 2021 10:50 AM

r28

Jerry was a celebrity that was "obtainable," so that is believable. Even Elaine suddenly got "re-attracted" to him once she found out how much money he made.

by Anonymousreply 29January 16, 2022 12:05 PM

That neighbor who is a pilot on Family Guy always makes me think of Larry from Three’s Company for some reason?

by Anonymousreply 30January 16, 2022 12:08 PM

Jimmy Stewart. He was not average, he was below ugly.

And the idea of Grace Kelly chasing after him. He wasn't even Donna Reed good-looking enough.

by Anonymousreply 31January 16, 2022 12:10 PM

In the same vein, Shane McCutcheon on "The L Word."

by Anonymousreply 32January 16, 2022 12:11 PM

Che on and just like that

by Anonymousreply 33January 16, 2022 12:39 PM
Scott Baio on Charles in Charge

Even though he was with Joannie most of the later Happy Days seasons, wasn't Chachi considered quite a catch as well?

Fonzi in the later years when he was a 40 year old still getting all of the high school and college girls.

by Anonymousreply 34January 16, 2022 12:46 PM

Tony Soprano was always scoring gorgeous women without even trying. Come on, are we supposed to believe that? Yeah maybe he was charismatic, but James Gandolfini was not exactly an Adonis.

by Anonymousreply 35January 16, 2022 12:49 PM

Me!

I'm a middle aged fit fat gay man yet women are constantly hitting on me.

Oddly enough, I struggle to get attention from other men.

by Anonymousreply 36January 16, 2022 12:52 PM
Walter Matheau was ridiculously poor casting for the film where Ingrid Bergman was in love with him and Goldie Hawn was suicidal over him leaving her ( I'm having a momentary blank on the films title and am too lazy to google).

To be fair, that sort of mirrors Rex Harrison (aka Ugly as Sin) and his relationships with women (he was married six times), in particular blonde starlet Carole Landis (who committed suicide when Harrison wouldn't divorce his wife and marry her.) All of his wives were fairly attractive, and his fourth also killed herself after Harrison divorced her.

Adam Driver

Timotay

John Goodman

Kelsey Grammer

Larry David

Javier Bardem

by Anonymousreply 38January 16, 2022 1:21 PM

You have obviously never seen Adam Driver in person on stage, half the audience male and females are all creaming their pants. The man oozes sexuality in person.

by Anonymousreply 39January 16, 2022 1:44 PM

Charlie Sheen in Two and a half men was a little perplexing

by Anonymousreply 40January 16, 2022 1:47 PM

Javier Bardem is ugly-sexy, but still sexy, very manly, can't believe you put him on the same list with Larry David??

by Anonymousreply 41January 16, 2022 1:53 PM
Alex Rodriguez - I don't get it.

Must agree with this one, but rumor is that he has an extraordinarily long, thick penis that is beautiful to behold (unlike the rest of him).

by Anonymousreply 42January 16, 2022 2:08 PM

Woody Allen in all the films he's in.

by Anonymousreply 43January 16, 2022 2:10 PM

I never follow baseball, but I had a thing for Alex Rodriguez in the late '90s, when he was in his twenties and on the Seattle Mariners. My brother is a sports nut and I sometimes would watch with him if I found a player attractive. A-Rod was baby-faced but masculine, with green eyes, luscious lips, and a nice butt. For some reason, he became really hideous (in looks and behavior) after he moved to NYC to play for the Yankees. Go figure!

by Anonymousreply 44January 16, 2022 2:36 PM

Greg Brady on The Brady Bunch (Barry Williams).

by Anonymousreply 45January 16, 2022 2:45 PM

Eddie Winslow on FAMILY MATTERS

by Anonymousreply 46January 16, 2022 11:59 PM

Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally, although I still enjoyed him in the movie.

by Anonymousreply 47January 17, 2022 1:06 AM

I was thinking Mickey Rooney in the ANDY HARDY film series, but he was married like 10 times (including to goddess Ava Gardner) and had bedded dozens of beautiful women since puberty.

by Anonymousreply 48January 17, 2022 2:41 PM

That’s a great one, [r48]. I always thought the same and was perplexed by all of his partners. Have they ever spoken about their relationships with MR? We’re they arranged by the studio?

by Anonymousreply 49January 17, 2022 2:44 PM

Eddie from the Golden Girls but that was on purpose. Played by John Fiedler.

by Anonymousreply 50January 17, 2022 2:56 PM

What the fuck is a HIMYM? Get off your fatass and type it out. The workout will do you good.

by Anonymousreply 51January 17, 2022 3:02 PM
What the fuck is a HIMYM?

Isn't that what tears in a woman when she loses her virginity?

by Anonymousreply 52January 17, 2022 3:06 PM

Has Carmine Ragoo been mentioned?

by Anonymousreply 53January 17, 2022 3:07 PM

Ed Bauer.

by Anonymousreply 54January 17, 2022 3:12 PM

Charlie Sheen in Two and a Half Men.

by Anonymousreply 55January 17, 2022 3:13 PM

Frasier owns this thread.

by Anonymousreply 56January 17, 2022 3:49 PM

I don't think Frasier was considered a ladies man. He was rich, successful and cultured but managed to fuck up and sabotage most of the times he tried to get laid. That said, straight women can get past looks for the aforementioned qualities and he wasn't hideous. Frasier was actually presented as bumbling in the love department.

by Anonymousreply 57January 17, 2022 3:58 PM

Alfred Molina did a whole show about this.

by Anonymousreply 58January 17, 2022 4:15 PM

Gerard Depardieu

by Anonymousreply 59January 17, 2022 4:22 PM

Mikhail Baryshnikov - he is 5'5" tall.

by Anonymousreply 60January 17, 2022 4:24 PM

Some of these are ridiculous. Matt LeBlanc is stunningly handsome. So is Mikhail Baryshnikov, plus he has a ballet dancer's superass.

But even so, gay men always make the mistake that being a ladies' man has to do solely with being handsome. It does not: straight women are mostly not as obsessed with looks as gay men are. They are more turned on by confidence and charisma.

by Anonymousreply 61January 17, 2022 4:26 PM

Baryshnikov was sexy as hell in his prime though. If a guy is that sexy who cares if he's only 5'5"?

by Anonymousreply 62January 17, 2022 4:31 PM

Arthur Fonzarelli/Henry Winkler

by Anonymousreply 63January 17, 2022 4:37 PM

I found James Stewart very attractive R31.

by Anonymousreply 64January 17, 2022 4:39 PM

Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigolo.

by Anonymousreply 65January 17, 2022 4:45 PM

Bill Cosby, Wtf were these women on drugs?

by Anonymousreply 66January 17, 2022 4:49 PM

Matt LeBlanc is a total muscle stud.

by Anonymousreply 67January 17, 2022 4:51 PM

Someone above mentioned Sam Malone. He is the classic tv lady’s man that just wasn’t attractive…at all. But then again, as in real life, it’s all about the attitude. Women love assholes.

by Anonymousreply 68January 17, 2022 4:54 PM
Someone above mentioned Sam Malone. He is the classic tv lady’s man that just wasn’t attractive…at all.

It didn't help that he was often referred to as being 'gorgeous' by Diane and the other women he bedded. It's one thing to be attracted to his personality, but the show tried to sell Sam Malone as a studly jock, too.
I found James Stewart very attractive [R31].

Me, too. I was one of those gaylings who watched old movies from the '30s/'40s and Stewart was an early crush. Handsome, affable, lovely smile, and beautiful eyes that you could tell were blue even in black-and-white. The crush is still there over twenty years later, but it has to be young Jimmy Stewart.

by Anonymousreply 73January 17, 2022 5:12 PM

by Anonymousreply 75January 18, 2022 7:15 PM

LARRY DAVID wins this thread. He's not very attractive and he's annoying. If he didn't have his money who would date him?

by Anonymousreply 76January 18, 2022 7:18 PM

R41 yes! Javier Bardem is very ugly-sexy. He shows his peen in the early Spanish films Goldenballs and Jamon Jamon where he sucks on Penelope Cruz' 16-year old tits.

by Anonymousreply 77January 18, 2022 7:31 PM

R77 and now they're married. After reuniting in that Woody Allen film that won Cruz her Oscar. How strange is that?

by Anonymousreply 78January 18, 2022 7:49 PM

Neil Patrick Harris on HIMYM. Not hot or funny enough.

by Anonymousreply 79January 19, 2022 6:57 AM

Larry was never really supposed to be taken seriously as a ladies man; he was the funny sleazy sidekick who would joke about spilling wine to get women out of their clothes. In today’s terms he’d be a date rapist.

His closest spirit animal was probably Stan Zbornak.

by Anonymousreply 80January 19, 2022 7:21 AM

Yes Alan Alda, Larry David and Ted Danson are all well hung.

by Anonymousreply 81January 19, 2022 7:33 AM

John Malkovich in Dangerous Liaisons. He looks like a lizard.

by Anonymousreply 82January 19, 2022 7:35 AM

Eddie Murphy Raw. Those leather Batgirl pants don;t seem to be packing much.

by Anonymousreply 83January 19, 2022 7:37 AM

Isn't Eddie Murphy more of a ladyboys' man?

by Anonymousreply 84January 19, 2022 7:19 PM

I object to the premise. Larry is a self-styled ladies man. He's a big talker, an aspirant. The whole idea is he aims to charm his way into dating hot women.

by Anonymousreply 85January 19, 2022 7:29 PM

We've spoken about it before on here, but in the 1940s-50s movies, there were always 40 and 50 year old men bedding 20 year old women. My niece won't watch them, because she thinks it's gross.

by Anonymousreply 86January 19, 2022 7:45 PM

Larry from Three’s Company was so gross! He looked like a rat with a perm

by Anonymousreply 87January 19, 2022 7:50 PM

Larry was the stereotypical 70s lounge lizard, always on the make but probably striking out more than he got laid.

Quagmire is cut from the same cloth but much more predatory, using subterfuge to score or just outright drugging and raping women.

by Anonymousreply 88January 19, 2022 7:58 PM

Larry had a nice bubble butt. Especially in those tight '70s pants. That's what I liked and remembered about him. I'm not necessarily a top, but I do love to rim a nice ass!

by Anonymousreply 89January 20, 2022 10:46 AM

I thought Sam Malone was attractive

by Anonymousreply 90January 20, 2022 12:30 PM

Look at the women George Costanza attracted...even more unbelievable

by Anonymousreply 91January 20, 2022 12:38 PM

R53 No way, the Big Ragu was HOT!

by Anonymousreply 92January 20, 2022 1:27 PM

Rosie O'Donnell

by Anonymousreply 93January 23, 2022 10:27 PM

On the other hand, Bud Bundy on MARRIED... WITH CHILDREN was made out to be such a grotesque loser, but he was actually pretty cute and had self-confidence which is big with women (even if on the show he struck out more often than not).

by Anonymousreply 97January 24, 2022 6:21 AM

As attractive as he was when he was young, after Warren Beatty turned 40 he wizened into a Blue Period Picasso painting.

Also Big Dick Energy though.

by Anonymousreply 98January 24, 2022 6:48 AM

The worst of this is Richard Lewis on Curb Your Enthusiasm. I suppose a fifty year old womanizer still has its sleazy charms. But in recent seasons, seeing that shriveled hundred year old man slink into a room like Grandma Moses with some new hot twenty five year old actress with huge tits on his arm who he can’t stand was peak cringe.
Charlie Sheen in Two and a half men was a little perplexing

Not really, he was nice looking, fit (not fat), he played the piano, had an awesome beach house and a lot of money.

Remember when Enrique Iglesias guest starred as a handyman on the show? And all the other characters kept saying, doesn't he remind you of someone? to Charlie. And in the end to get back the women Iglesias's character was stealing, Charlie pulled out his checkbook.

by Anonymousreply 101January 27, 2022 10:46 PM

I wonder if Larry Dallas was the inspiration for Larry Laffer from [italic]Leisure Suit Larry[/italic] ? Back on topic, my vote goes to Harry Bentley in The Jeffersons.

R66, you're out of pocket for that joke. And I'm out of pocket for giving it a W&W.

by Anonymousreply 102January 27, 2022 11:07 PM

R35 that’s the point though. It’s Tony Soprano as played by James Gandolfini being the ladies man, not Bobby Bacalao or Big Pussy.

by Anonymousreply 103July 5, 2023 1:38 PM

Pete Davidson.

by Anonymousreply 104July 5, 2023 1:48 PM

Three's Company was incredibly cheap and relied on risque Vaudeville-style jokes. It was a surprise hit, but then we were supposed to believe the cast members were sexy young things.

by Anonymousreply 105July 5, 2023 2:28 PM

God! I was attracted to Larry on 3s Company as a young gay boy. 🥴

by Anonymousreply 106July 5, 2023 5:53 PM

Walter Matthau was even more unbelievable as a ladies' man in A NEW LEAF with Elaine May. But he was enough of a box-office draw at the time that he was cast in that and CACTUS FLOWER.

Speaking of Matthau, I couldn't see what gorgeous Ann-Margret saw in his and Jack Lemmon's GRUMPY OLD MEN characters.

Another vote for Malkovich in LIAISONS and PORTRAIT OF A LADY.
