Let's discuss the band Eagles!
I was surprised that they were from California, I thought somewhere in the South was more likely.
Are they considered good or hopelessly pop and kitsch? I like to listen to them occasionally, they are so much a part of my teenage years in the 1970s.
Are the younger Eagles hawt? Would you have done them?

Don Henley and Glenn Frey are two of the biggest assholes in music.
I watched that documentary about the Eagles, and came away loathing those two.
It was common knowledge that Henley was insufferable, but I'd always assumed that Frey was the nice one of the two. He wasn't. He was actually an even bigger asshole than Henley.
They did have a lot of good songs, though.

To me they’re old people music. It’s boomer music. People my age listen to it because their parents were boomers and they grew up with classic dad rock. They’re like Journey and Coldplay and Maroon 5 to me.
Were they actually cool in the 70’s? Like the cool kids listened to The Eagles?

I am not sure they were necessarily cool - but I think they were respected, maybe on the edge of cool.
I think their break-up was especially acrimonious, which is why people were surprised they got back together and the album was "When Hell Freezes Over". I remember hearing "Get Over It" from the album, and was not good, especially compared to their old stuff.
Their reunion tour charged $50 for the basic seat which was a lot higher than concert seats at that time. When the tour did well, you started seeing other artists copy the pricing and that was then pretty much standard.

I was a kid in the 1970s, and their album Hotel California, which was released in 1977, was huge. It was on the charts forever. From 1974 to 1977, they had a string of six singles that were in the Top 5, four of which went to #1 on the Billboard charts. Their first Top Ten hit was Witchy Woman in 1972, but it was from 1974 up to 1980 that they were at their peak. They had Top Ten hits up to 1980. Definitely one of the biggest bands of the 1970s, and yes, they were considered cool.
After that, Don Henley and Glenn Frey went on to have solo success in the 1980s. I have heard many times they are two of the biggest assholes in music, and they despise each other. Two colossal egos that can't be in the same room.

Without Linda Ronstadt, they'd be nothing.

Glenn Frey’s son took his place after he died and has been touring with the eagles for 4 years.

[quote] I was surprised that they were from California, I thought somewhere in the South was more likely.
They were one of the original mainstays of the California Rock sound. It was however a country-ish rock sound. In the 70s and into the 80s many kids I knew (including my hippy-ish teenage older cousin who I fan-worshipped) were into this music. Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, as well. I never particularly liked it. It was too mellow for me. But it was legit and they were good musicians. I just read a nonfiction book about 1974 in Los Angeles called Rock Me On The Water (by Ronald Brownstein, I think) that has a lot of background about this music and these musicians (as well as TV, movies, and politics). It was pretty interesting.

Dolly did a good cover of their song "Lyin' Eyes" which is written as a good story-telling country song anyway.

I was in junior high school when Hotel California came out and it was very big and I know lots of people who went and saw them on tour, but I hated their music then and still do. They are notoriously obnoxious people.

The Netflix (I think?) documentary about them was great—the music really shone but it made clear the two leads were somewhat obnoxious. It did a nice job of highlighting Randy Meisner, who usually gets left out.

Glenn Frey died due to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia.

OP, Glenn Frey is from Michigan and Don Henley is from Texas.
I can confirm Don Henley is an asshole.

Hated everything about them - the music, the look, the vibe. Which is funny because I love Stevie and Linda.

What's to say about the Eagles? They weren't that interesting. But here's a few things about them:
Several members of the Eagles were a backup band for Linda Ronstadt before they formed their own group. No doubt she slept with some, or all, of them.
They were very successful for a time and had a lot of hits.
They were considered "country rock." But some people thought they were just faking it and their music was inauthentic. Gram Persons said the music of the Eagles was "a plastic dry fuck."
Don Henley is probably the most famous member of the band. He's talented, but scum. He was caught with two teenage girls; one of them had overdosed. I think charges were brought against him, but they were minor. He was, for a time, the boyfriend of Stevie Nicks. They did that dumb duet together, "Leather and Lace." Her song "Sara" was about their baby, which she aborted.
Joe Walsh was also involved with Stevie Nicks (she really got around). She's said he was the great love of her life. As far as I know he's never said anything publicly about her.

One of them was pretty back in 1975.
That is, um, 47 years ago.
