Yesterday, I had left my local library and there was a voting box out front. I saw several people go to drop off their ballots. Most seemed like regular Californians doing their liberal vote, except one. She had the walk of someone who wanted to recall the governor. Instead of a stroll to the voting box, she looked like she was marching. With her thoughts about making a change.

VOTE NO (on first question of ballot. We want to keep Gavin Newsom and stop any of those crazies on that list. Voting NO does this. There are two questions. You do not have to pick from the crazy list for the second question. Just make sure you VOTE NO on the first question.

Polls in California are set to close at 8 p.m. PT — or 11 p.m. ET — tonight.

CNN’s National Political Reporter Maeve Reston is covering the race and says the first drop of ballots, from early voting, will come right after the polls close.

"We already know what a lot of those are. We know they’ll be heavily Democratic. A lot of those people are Democrats who voted early," she explained.

After this "blue drop," you’ll see more Republican votes as in-person ballots come in, Reston said.

California is famous for taking forever to count because there are just so many ballots to be counted. People are expecting this to be a decently high turnout election — even though it's a special election in the middle of September.

Also remember, there will be the “after count," which includes the mail-in ballots that were stamped on Election Day, but are received up to seven days after the election. In some recent elections, as much as a third of the total ballots cast were counted in that after count.

So be ready for:

First, a blue drop of early votes

Then, a red wave of people who voted in-person

Finally, the mail-in ballots that are received and counted

Depending on the ratio, the result may be known sooner rather than later.

Polls over the past month have shown growing support for Gavin Newsom. Earlier in the summer, he was polling in the high 40's, now he's polling in the mid 50's.

As Harry Enten said last night, there would have to be a major polling error for Newsom to lose.

And as Ron Brownstein pointed out, the early voting stats also favor the Dems.
