How do the Emmys work?

Does every member vote in every category? They gave out something like 96 technical awards this weekend.

I mean does you average actor really know much about sound mixing for a reality series etc?

All members vote in the "main" categories - Comedy Series, Drama Series, Limited or Anthology Series, Competition Program, Television Movie, Variety Sketch Series, Variety Talk Series

Then only "peer groups" vote in the other specialized categories, which are ones like - Acting, Directing, Sound, Costumes, Lighting, etc.

So, for example, only actors are voting in the Acting categories and only sound specialists are voting in the Sound categories.

Got it?

The wat you describe it R1...

"all members vote" sounds like sound specialists can vote for actors & also in the sound categories.

I was a judge in one of the minor categories once. It's all nonsense.

Nope R2.

Sorry if it wasn't clear. "Peer groups" only vote in THEIR groups categories. So actors = acting categories, sound = sound categories, etc.

I figured my last sentence at R1 clarified that so here it is again:

[quote]So, for example, only actors are voting in the Acting categories and only sound specialists are voting in the Sound categories."

He's clearly special.
