TMZ now owned by Fox

Sounds like a fire sale - less than $50m.

They're keeping Harvey Levin on, presumably due to his contacts.

Expect the gossip to become a lot more political and Republican-friendly.

They were already right leaning as it was, so this should be interesting.

by Anonymousreply 1September 13, 2021 8:48 PM

Today's story - Hillary Clinton's Pizza Party Sex Slaves!

by Anonymousreply 2September 13, 2021 8:49 PM

Why would a gay run operation like TMZ by Repuke leaning?

by Anonymousreply 3September 13, 2021 10:42 PM

R3 gay doesn't mean good, I mean look at some of the posters on the DL.

by Anonymousreply 4September 13, 2021 10:54 PM

Levin is a trashy grifter like Trump. And yes, TMZ has been right-leaning for a while, on top of the general douche bagginess it's had for years.

by Anonymousreply 5September 13, 2021 10:59 PM

Who needs or gives a shit about TMZ...???

by Anonymousreply 6September 13, 2021 11:03 PM

R6- Every D-list celeb that calls them before going to the grocery store.

by Anonymousreply 7September 13, 2021 11:07 PM

Clearly Fox does or they wouldn't have purchased it, R6.

Also a lot of TMZ stuff spreads like wildfire on social media.

by Anonymousreply 8September 13, 2021 11:08 PM

R7 you're thinking of People magazine.

by Anonymousreply 9September 13, 2021 11:08 PM
Sounds like a fire sale - less than $50m.

Agree. I figured it was worth may more than that.

As for it's leaning right, seems odd since 80% of their stories are about Black celebs.

by Anonymousreply 10September 13, 2021 11:13 PM

AT&T doesn't need the money, so clearly they wanted to unload it for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 11September 13, 2021 11:14 PM

R10 they do lean right. It's like RT (Russia Today). A lot of what they report is just news, but they slide in propaganda amongst it all and it becomes a propaganda outlet.

Fox runs this country now. At least half of it.

by Anonymousreply 12September 13, 2021 11:15 PM

R6 They are venal but they have everything first.

by Anonymousreply 13September 13, 2021 11:40 PM

They're like the Daily Mail of L.A. in that they have a lot of paid informants in all areas.

by Anonymousreply 14September 14, 2021 2:28 AM

I miss Max Hodges! Hard to believe he's now 40-year-old, a father of three, and works as a bartender. He lives in Manhattan Beach. How does a bartender own a $4.5M home? DAMN!

$50M ? That's it? I can't believe how low that is.

by Anonymousreply 16September 14, 2021 6:01 AM

I guess we'll start seeing a lot of Scott Baio "scoops."

by Anonymousreply 17September 14, 2021 2:10 PM

TMZ was bought by Fox Entertainment (Fox Broadcasting Co.) which is separate from Fox News Media (Fox News Channel).

by Anonymousreply 18September 14, 2021 2:34 PM

Did you read the article at the OP, R18?
Under the ownership of Fox, TMZ, which created a new form of tabloid journalism for the digital age, [bold]will be owned by Rupert Murdoch[/bold], who redefined the genre through his ownership of newspapers like the New York Post, the U.K.’s The Sun, and Australia’s Daily Telegraph.

by Anonymousreply 19September 14, 2021 9:02 PM

Two shit entities

by Anonymousreply 20September 14, 2021 9:20 PM

Our laws about monopolies and oligarchies are being decimated right before our eyes. Like Disney owning half of these media companies now. Wonderful variety in ownership, isn't it?

by Anonymousreply 21September 14, 2021 9:34 PM

I wonder which oligarch owns Datalounge?

by Anonymousreply 22September 14, 2021 10:02 PM

R9- No. I'm not. Fuck you .

by Anonymousreply 23September 15, 2021 1:41 PM

R10- Of course. Blacks are the ones that due to their intellect and inborn behavior patterns do the sort of things that make one newsworthy in TMZ.

by Anonymousreply 24September 15, 2021 1:43 PM

The gay mafia, R22.

by Anonymousreply 25September 15, 2021 1:44 PM

Harvey Levin has always given me the heebie jeebies, so I avoid watching his punchable face.

by Anonymousreply 26September 15, 2021 1:46 PM

$50M is chump change. However, this is a match made in hell so all parties must be pleased.

by Anonymousreply 27September 15, 2021 2:05 PM

It's $50M plus Levin's new contract, I assume.

The brand has faded over time but still has recognition. Levin is 71 and has an estimated net worth of $20M, so this should put a lot of money in his pocket and ensure at least a few years contract for lucrative work.

I would say it was a good time to sell and a good enough price. What exactly does TMZ have that couldn't be assembled in a month elsewhere with all different staff and resources?

by Anonymousreply 28September 15, 2021 3:59 PM
What exactly does TMZ have that couldn't be assembled in a month elsewhere with all different staff and resources?

A network of informants that have helped them constantly beat everyone to the headlines for years?

If other places could have assembled that, they would have. I'm still not sure how they do it.

by Anonymousreply 29September 15, 2021 4:04 PM

The Daily Mail of LA? Another reason for me to block people who post their shit. I don't block the Murdoch properties (yet, though I still have boycotted the Sun since Hillsborough.)

by Anonymousreply 30September 15, 2021 4:05 PM

Harvey Levin has always been a Republicunt Muppet.

by Anonymousreply 31September 15, 2021 4:06 PM

I don’t like TMZ. They have no respect for the deceased’s families.

by Anonymousreply 32September 15, 2021 4:08 PM

R10

It’s racist, they love reporting on scandals of black celebs because their viewers love seeing black people humiliated and degraded. The comments section told it all.

by Anonymousreply 33September 15, 2021 4:12 PM

R33: Well, that must be why Van Lathan, one of their most prominent staffers, left for The Ringer (he won an Oscar this year so he hasnt suffered).

by Anonymousreply 34September 15, 2021 5:28 PM

He should have sold around 2007, when people couldn't get enough of Lohan, Britney and Paris.

by Anonymousreply 35September 15, 2021 5:31 PM

I don't mean this as snark, I'm being sincere, I honestly thought Murdoch already owned TMZ.

by Anonymousreply 36September 15, 2021 5:32 PM

Look how big his mouth is. He could stuff an 8-ball in there no problem.

by Anonymousreply 37September 15, 2021 5:34 PM

Harvey Levin is a repig so of course they bought it.

by Anonymousreply 38September 15, 2021 5:34 PM

Harvey Levin is an old fart. He's probably the one who went and told everyone that Mick Jagger was eating a Mars bar out of Marianne Faithfull's pussy.

by Anonymousreply 39September 15, 2021 5:37 PM

r23 you first, you hair-triggered insect nothing!

by Anonymousreply 40September 15, 2021 7:47 PM

r36 they've been indistinguishable from the NY Post for years, with the exception that TMZ is more focused on slimier stories and even tabloidier tabloid journalism. They make the NY Post look like an academic journal.

by Anonymousreply 41September 15, 2021 7:50 PM

Isn't 50M kinda chump change?
