Alcohol is what makes life tolerable

I need to be a little bit schnockered all the time. Being sober feels awful and depressing. It’s like having a gauzy filter removed from your eyes and being forced to see the world in all its glaring ugliness. If I couldn’t be a little blitzed, I would have to kill myself. I don’t see how people go on.

by Anonymousreply 90September 14, 2021 11:52 PM

The booze is lying to you .

by Anonymousreply 1September 11, 2021 12:33 AM

Hey spaz, do you go to work drunk too or are you self employed?

by Anonymousreply 2September 11, 2021 12:33 AM

You're not alone, OP.

Salud!

by Anonymousreply 3September 11, 2021 12:39 AM

I wish you could die peacefully from alcohol. I think it’s misty violent convulsions from organ failure or cancer, though. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 4September 11, 2021 12:39 AM

Here's the thing. I had a friend like you.

I used to have a girlfriend

Known as Elsie,

With whom I shared

Four sordid rooms in Chelsea

by Anonymousreply 5September 11, 2021 12:40 AM

Always listen to your Auntie Helen.

Smoke weed instead and meditate

by Anonymousreply 7September 11, 2021 12:45 AM

Team Weed

by Anonymousreply 8September 11, 2021 12:49 AM

I always have a couple drinks after work and of course on the weekends, but I can't imagine being drunk all the time. I also enjoy weed from time to time but to me there is no point in getting high/drunk if you don't enjoy being sober just as much. They are supposed to be escapes, not a constant state of mind.

by Anonymousreply 9September 11, 2021 12:54 AM

R9, truth

by Anonymousreply 10September 11, 2021 12:55 AM

For me food makes life more tolerable. I also enjoy cooking and baking. It relaxes me. Plus you get a treat at the end!

by Anonymousreply 11September 11, 2021 12:57 AM

OP it may seem that way but alcohol is what is robbing you of the chance to feel any true joy. You’re chasing the euphoria you felt the first couple times you drank. I think you need to do some soul searching and ask yourself if you still feel that euphoria or if you have become completely numb.

by Anonymousreply 12September 11, 2021 1:00 AM

OP, you're an alcoholic.

Learn to cope (and fix your problems) without being a fucking drunk all the time. Alcohol doesn't solve your problems. It just helps you forget you have them for a few hours, and adds to them over time.

by Anonymousreply 13September 11, 2021 1:03 AM

Agree with Op. I never drink while working but after work or weekends a few glasses of wine helps me relax and sleep at night. For a few hours at least I don't hate myself.

by Anonymousreply 14September 11, 2021 1:06 AM

On the contrary, OP. Alcohol makes life worth LIVING,

by Anonymousreply 15September 11, 2021 1:10 AM

To alcohol! The cause of.... and solution to... all of life's problems!

by Anonymousreply 17September 11, 2021 1:14 AM

Unless you're Liza Minnelli, Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 19September 11, 2021 1:17 AM

Weed for me, but yeah I get you, I'm on day 1 of a tolerance break and already thinking too fucking much.

by Anonymousreply 20September 11, 2021 1:17 AM

I will be two years sober in a couple of weeks 🙂

by Anonymousreply 21September 11, 2021 1:22 AM

All I know is that I have a strong gin and tonic, than another, turn off the Mets, have a zolpidium . I get in bed and read for a half hour and then I sleep thru the night and wake up around 730 in the AM. No hangover,. Hungry for breakfast, which I have, along with lunch and dinner. lots of veggies. When I run out of Z i dry out for a couple weeks. But I always renew my prescription. I'm 70. and sleep ain't what it used to be. this works for me.

by Anonymousreply 22September 11, 2021 1:38 AM

R5, don't you mean..?

I ushed to have a girlfriend known ash Elshie

With whom I shared four shordid roomsh in Chelshea

by Anonymousreply 23September 11, 2021 2:06 AM

Couldn't agree more.

by Anonymousreply 24September 11, 2021 2:07 AM

OP, you do realize you're an alcoholic, right?

by Anonymousreply 25September 11, 2021 2:13 AM

Nope. Xanax.

by Anonymousreply 26September 11, 2021 2:14 AM

Guzzle guzzle guzzle

by Anonymousreply 27September 11, 2021 2:14 AM

I am the weed version of what you describe. Alcohol is just a depressant for me- no fun. I tried!

My sister is more like you. She is in her 60s, still healthy and working and sociable.

Whatever gets you through. Sobriety is overrated.

by Anonymousreply 28September 11, 2021 2:16 AM

I don’t care if I’m an alcoholic. I soils the Wang to live if I had to be skberX

by Anonymousreply 29September 11, 2021 2:21 AM

Sobriety is boring . That’s why so many sober people are bitter

by Anonymousreply 30September 11, 2021 2:48 AM

Smoke more pot

by Anonymousreply 31September 11, 2021 2:55 AM

We're not bitter, we're laughing and pointing at R29 who's too blitzed to type correctly

by Anonymousreply 32September 11, 2021 2:56 AM

I love alcohol, but it causes too much anxiety. I am on the wagon and enjoying O'Doul's.

by Anonymousreply 33September 11, 2021 3:00 AM

Is that what Bill W would do?

by Anonymousreply 34September 11, 2021 3:01 AM

Go weed!

by Anonymousreply 35September 11, 2021 3:12 AM

R30 No. I've lived more in the past two years of sobriety than I did in 10 years of sloppy as hell alcoholism. Only thing I'm bitter about is that I wasted so much time drinking and didn't stop sooner.

by Anonymousreply 36September 11, 2021 4:49 AM

Glad to hear that r36🦋👏👍

by Anonymousreply 37September 11, 2021 4:50 AM

I am sober after a 2 decade drinking span and my partner is a non drinker who smokes pot. Pot makes me paranoid, but I will admit, I long for something to take the edge off lately. Sobriety is better for me but not easy all the time. Lately my partner has been noticing my moods and irritability. I need to work on chilling out. I wish xanax wasn’t such a gamble to take.

by Anonymousreply 38September 11, 2021 5:16 AM

[quote]All I know is that I have a strong gin and tonic

GIN AND TONIC? Are you dialing in from 1956?

by Anonymousreply 39September 11, 2021 2:40 PM

I knew someone who drank like OP. And then he died.

by Anonymousreply 40September 11, 2021 3:06 PM

Weed is so much better. Alcohol feels like a waste of time to me.

by Anonymousreply 41September 11, 2021 3:09 PM

If it’s from time to time, I don’t see the problem.

If it’s pretty freakin’ close as can be to 24/7/365?

There’s a problem.

by Anonymousreply 42September 11, 2021 3:10 PM

I said that when I was 20, R41. Now I have asthma and the idea of smoking anything makes me puke. When are they going to make marijuana cocktails?

by Anonymousreply 43September 11, 2021 3:11 PM

I drank gallons of alcohol and smoked a shit ton of pot plus a zillion other party favors. I'm so done

by Anonymousreply 44September 11, 2021 3:17 PM

Take prolonged breaks op

by Anonymousreply 45September 11, 2021 3:37 PM

I’ve been sober for 36 years. I strongly prefer it to the alternative.

by Anonymousreply 46September 11, 2021 3:57 PM

I feel best half baked at all times.

by Anonymousreply 47September 12, 2021 8:48 PM

Yeah great, Just what the world needs: zoned out nitwits

by Anonymousreply 48September 12, 2021 8:55 PM

Grandmother Mary (R48), don't you remember you said the same thing in 1971?

by Anonymousreply 49September 12, 2021 8:58 PM

I drank heavily for 15 years. It was fun for the first 12. At the end, I had to have a shot or two in the morning to avoid the shakes and insane anxiety. My partner was going to leave me. I got fired for calling in sick too many times. My family quit talking to me. I gained weight. I embarrassed myself in front of friends, neighbors, and coworkers. I fell while blacked out and broke my shoulder. Drinking is fun….until it stops being fun anymore, and it takes years to regain the trust and health that you have lost.

by Anonymousreply 50September 12, 2021 9:08 PM

I was a daily drinker and finally gave it up this year. Feel so much better. I like to eat an edible at night to relax. I understand why so many leave alcohol behind and use pot.

by Anonymousreply 51September 12, 2021 9:09 PM

No thanx. I have enough of a hard time as it is in life without adding alcoholism to my list.

by Anonymousreply 52September 12, 2021 9:16 PM

Shouldn't your life be enjoyable?

by Anonymousreply 53September 12, 2021 9:30 PM

Have another drink . .... hic

by Anonymousreply 54September 12, 2021 9:41 PM

Another thread from Lá Sènatrice?

by Anonymousreply 55September 12, 2021 9:44 PM

How can I get edibles?

by Anonymousreply 56September 12, 2021 9:49 PM

R56. You can buy delta 8 THC via mail in most states.

I buy mine from link below

It is milder than delta 9 but you can get a nice relaxed feeling and a real buzz if you take more.

Start slow with edibles.

by Anonymousreply 57September 12, 2021 10:04 PM

OP did you see Another Round?

Gin and tonics are delightful.

Much love to anyone unlucky enough to be predisposed to alcoholism. Keep focusing on your sobriety.

by Anonymousreply 58September 12, 2021 10:11 PM

As already stated, you are an alcoholic. I am too and wasted a lot of years and screwed up my life to a degree. It will progress and just get worse. That is inevitable and the end can be true disaster. Not preaching and it is your life but it is likely you are affecting others. My parents were both alcoholics and it was hell. I should have known better. Get help and stop. Life will not automatically be wonderful but it is better and you will at least feel physically better. Good Luck.

by Anonymousreply 59September 12, 2021 10:25 PM

Zoned out nit wit here….What was I saying?

by Anonymousreply 60September 12, 2021 11:09 PM

Thanks, R57. The last time I used pot was 1980 (!)

by Anonymousreply 61September 13, 2021 12:08 AM

When people here say they were drank heavily, such as R50, I'd like to know HOW MUCH constitutes "heavy drinker."

by Anonymousreply 62September 13, 2021 12:11 AM

"misty violent convulsions"

... of the way we were

by Anonymousreply 63September 13, 2021 12:14 AM

"I drank and drugged to insanity.. I was definitely near death"

And I liked the hole and the pole.

by Anonymousreply 64September 13, 2021 12:16 AM

R58 is a troll

by Anonymousreply 65September 13, 2021 12:43 AM

I would love to know the statistics of alcohol and drug use of U.S. citizens specifically during the 2nd term of Obama's presidency, the Trump years, and the pandemic years.

by Anonymousreply 66September 13, 2021 12:46 AM

In college I would get waisted with alcohol almost every weekend, but once I got out of college I stopped. Only a handful of times after that and I haven't had a drop to drink in several years. Never tried weed, the smell made me nauseous. I have pretty much always preferred to live in a natural state of mind, not an altered one. It works for me, if that works for you OP good for you. My way is less expensive.

by Anonymousreply 67September 13, 2021 1:25 AM

R43- They do. You could also try edibles. Hell, even delta 8 edibles are available at the gas stations now (I'm in a illegal state).

by Anonymousreply 68September 13, 2021 1:30 AM

R67, sanctimonious asshole

by Anonymousreply 69September 13, 2021 1:30 AM

R69 has reading comprehension problems.

by Anonymousreply 70September 13, 2021 8:12 PM

I will NEVER stop drinking, no matter what anyone says. And smoking dope is low class.

by Anonymousreply 71September 13, 2021 10:31 PM

I am pro marijuana but I admit that it is uncouth looking lol. Drinking is equal if not worse for you than pot but looks so much more elegant.

by Anonymousreply 72September 13, 2021 10:34 PM

R71, weed? Lol 😂

by Anonymousreply 73September 13, 2021 10:35 PM

R72, true

by Anonymousreply 74September 13, 2021 10:35 PM

I'll stick to Tina

by Anonymousreply 75September 13, 2021 10:37 PM

R75 is pure trash.

by Anonymousreply 76September 13, 2021 10:38 PM

R75 How dare you call me pure!

by Anonymousreply 77September 13, 2021 10:44 PM

OP is Lee Remick

by Anonymousreply 78September 13, 2021 10:53 PM

I am a stoner and it does give me pause how uncouth a habit it is. But losing my best friend, aged 45, to cirrhosis, also gives me pause. I’m a tacky bitch but I still have my health.

by Anonymousreply 79September 14, 2021 12:23 AM

Eat the THC or take it In tongue drops . There’s class in discretion .

by Anonymousreply 80September 14, 2021 1:00 AM

OP, you are an alcoholic. I've been sober 25 years and I've seen it all now. I clearly see the positives in my life by remaining sober. You see things differently when the alcohol is triggering your brain. I hate to break it to you, but you are already killing yourself.

by Anonymousreply 81September 14, 2021 1:14 AM

I believed that once. And then it got flipped. Alcohol often (thought not always) makes life miserable.

by Anonymousreply 82September 14, 2021 1:17 AM

R81, doesn’t really believe the last step of Bill W and Doc Bob on helping the alcoholic who still suffers . Keep sitting on your cunt thrown and judging.

by Anonymousreply 83September 14, 2021 1:20 AM

Thrown Oh dear

by Anonymousreply 84September 14, 2021 1:26 AM

Throne lol

by Anonymousreply 85September 14, 2021 4:11 AM

[quote] OP, you are an alcoholic.

I want to start a movement to reclassify this as a slur. lol

by Anonymousreply 86September 14, 2021 6:59 PM

Let's just say OP is alcoholish

by Anonymousreply 87September 14, 2021 9:29 PM

Weed and tequila in small quantities is nice

by Anonymousreply 88September 14, 2021 10:42 PM

R88 are you me? That’s my Saturday night at home.

by Anonymousreply 89September 14, 2021 11:22 PM
