Muriel's hands are tied. By an old man in a wheelchair.

Hawt!

by Anonymousreply 1September 10, 2021 10:42 AM

DL has 50 million users ?

by Anonymousreply 2September 10, 2021 10:45 AM

Really Abbott? Perhaps you better read their terms and Conditions before all that sh*t goes down. Freedom huh, what freedom?? 'Freedom' comes in many forms. Constitution-what constitution? Draconian state in all forms.

by Anonymousreply 3September 10, 2021 10:48 AM

What if their "viewpoint" is a medical or electoral falsehood that encourages viewers to unsafe remedies or sedition? The "social media giants" are private companies and could be held liable for offering a platform to that crap.

by Anonymousreply 4September 10, 2021 10:49 AM

Define viewpoint. If the social media’s viewpoint is Death To America The Great Satan, they can stay?

by Anonymousreply 5September 10, 2021 10:50 AM

What about gay hate ? Trans hate ?

by Anonymousreply 6September 10, 2021 10:51 AM

So it's wrong to kick off misinformation about a the risks of a pandemic, but great to purge schoolbooks of any discussion of racial oppression—because that's "divisive." Got it, Republicans!

by Anonymousreply 7September 10, 2021 10:54 AM

Good.

by Anonymousreply 8September 10, 2021 11:07 AM

Well, he’s likely going to slow the migration of tech companies to Texas.

by Anonymousreply 9September 10, 2021 11:29 AM

Public accommodation and all.

by Anonymousreply 10September 10, 2021 11:51 AM

Throwing raw meat to the base like a panicked lion tamer cornered by his cats.

by Anonymousreply 11September 10, 2021 12:16 PM

SO in Texas we CAN scream fire in a movie theater after all now?

by Anonymousreply 12September 10, 2021 12:37 PM

Ok but will this law have any actual effect or is he justs doing what R11 said? Educate me pls

by Anonymousreply 13September 10, 2021 12:52 PM

If federal govt can't regulate social media those companies won't give a fuck about TX state law. They can ignore the law, or close all accounts that are subject to jurisdiction of TX courts -- starting with Abbott's.

by Anonymousreply 14September 10, 2021 2:32 PM

And this is the state that is supposed to be turning blue soon? Are y'all sure about that?

by Anonymousreply 15September 10, 2021 2:35 PM

People should bombard his social media accounts with insults and crude content.

by Anonymousreply 16September 10, 2021 2:37 PM

indeed

by Anonymousreply 17September 10, 2021 2:39 PM

Send old Greg all the scat porn links you can find.

by Anonymousreply 18September 10, 2021 2:45 PM

Small government!

by Anonymousreply 19September 10, 2021 2:51 PM
by Anonymousreply 20September 11, 2021 1:01 AM

Those platforms are run by private companies. The conservatives that screamed bloody murder at Biden's new covid mandates should have just as much of a problem with this. Hell, they also shouldn't have a problem with democratic politicians passing laws that allows citizens to sue anti-vaxxers/anti-maskers they've been exposed to for their attempt to spread covid (see TX abortion laws).

by Anonymousreply 21September 11, 2021 1:04 AM

It is really time for them to go.

by Anonymousreply 22September 11, 2021 1:21 AM

He can’t do this, it is unconstitutional. But even if he could, how on earth would he enforce it?

by Anonymousreply 23September 11, 2021 1:33 AM

🤡 🤡 🤡 = Texas Governor Greg Abbott

by Anonymousreply 24September 11, 2021 1:38 AM

r23, you may be five years old, but prior to Trump the entire Left was *for* regulating the internet as common carriers.

by Anonymousreply 25September 11, 2021 8:48 AM

I am really fucking suck of this guy and I don't even live in Texas.

by Anonymousreply 26September 11, 2021 9:57 AM

*sick of him. But he does suck.

by Anonymousreply 27September 11, 2021 9:57 AM

I propose a law banning Republicans

by Anonymousreply 28September 11, 2021 10:04 AM

I listened to Fresh Air today. Terry Gross interviewed Ian Millhiser, who covers the Supreme Court for Vox. His take on the future of abortion in the US was ... bleak. It was unsettling listening to him, because I don't think he was being dramatic. He basically predicted that whether Roe Vs. Wade is "struck down" or indirectly neutralised, we have some darker times ahead of us.

I can't believe this is 2021.

by Anonymousreply 29September 11, 2021 10:05 AM

Time to get "Abbott is a pigfucker" trending.

by Anonymousreply 30September 11, 2021 10:16 AM

🐷 🐽

by Anonymousreply 31September 11, 2021 10:18 AM

Sorry but he's right. Dorsey and Zuckerberg ideologies are anti democratic. Real lefties would have agreed with Abbot if they were lefties but they turned into Wokeist. The Dems support people like Dorsey because he banned Trump, but couldn't care less if everyone who doesn't think like the Progressives is banned. Twitter waited until they had billions of accounts to seed their ideology a little too much. But Twitter doesn't ban the Taliban or pedophiles or pimps. Pure and simple hypocrisy as always.

by Anonymousreply 32September 11, 2021 10:57 AM

"Real lefties would have agreed with Abbot if they were lefties but they turned into Wokeist." No they wouldn't! Anarchy is not a civilized value.

by Anonymousreply 33September 11, 2021 11:43 AM

What the HELL is going on in TEXAS? Why don't we build the wall around Texas and give it back to Mexico?

by Anonymousreply 34September 11, 2021 11:46 AM

R33 When one justifies censorship by a fallacious and hypocritical pretext such as "anarchy is not civilized", one is intellectually dead. Are the Taliban civilized? Are pedophiles civilized? Hypocrite!

by Anonymousreply 35September 11, 2021 11:50 AM

It's always so cute when the prominent Russian asset, Glenn Greenwald, starts moralistically finger wagging at us .

by Anonymousreply 36September 11, 2021 12:07 PM

^ I can't stand that fag

by Anonymousreply 37September 11, 2021 12:33 PM

Again, Republicans wasting energy on ridiculousness

by Anonymousreply 38September 11, 2021 12:42 PM

There is always talk of Texas turning blue or at least purple, but you would never know that by the government at the state level. They are more extreme then ever.

Ignoring the substance of Glenn's statements, he is always so smug, condescending, and mean girl petty, he bugs me even when I agree with him.

by Anonymousreply 39September 11, 2021 12:43 PM

[quote]Twitter doesn't ban the Taliban or pedophiles or pimps. Pure and simple hypocrisy as always.

This is what I have a problem with. Twitter is a private company and can do as it pleases but its bans and suspensions aren't created equally.

by Anonymousreply 40September 11, 2021 9:25 PM

R40 Yes, and they only banned Trump when he lost the election. In other words, if someone has power, they won't ban. No principles.

by Anonymousreply 41September 11, 2021 9:30 PM

No, they banned him after four people were killed in a failed insurrection that he incited, partially on Twitter.

by Anonymousreply 42September 11, 2021 10:03 PM

There is absolutely nothing Republicans claim to believe in that their actions haven't proved the opposite.

They literally believe no one should have rights except them. They are undemocratic, Fascist turds.

by Anonymousreply 43September 11, 2021 10:07 PM

R41, how many fucking times did they have to stamp a "false claim" on that orange shitstain's tweets because he was lying all of the time?

The fact is that the people who weep for Trump on here would throw a hissy fit if some high-profile account was constantly tweeting anti-gay rhetoric and allowed to remain active. You think it's OK that Trump has spent years being a fucking racist, bigoted, birther asshole.

A Twitter account is not a God given right nor is it in the constitution. Go to your fucking Parler if you want to be among your fellow hatemongers. Right-wingers are entitled, fucking cry-babies. You don't see us whining about being banned from Parler. Because we don't give a shit to be anywhere near the stink of Trump shit-eating flying monkeys.

by Anonymousreply 44September 11, 2021 10:12 PM

Does Greg Abbott actually believe the shit he does? Because no person hoping to be described by a word you'd like would do the shit Greg Abbott does.

by Anonymousreply 45September 11, 2021 10:17 PM

Cool, so this means Greg Abbott will sue any social-media company that “censors” any content about how he, Abbott, is a shit-eating pedophile.

by Anonymousreply 46September 11, 2021 10:18 PM

Perhaps Abbott’s 2024 presidential campaign has begun, and he’s trying to avert being banned from Twitter like Trump was. Plenty of time to get his new law through Trump/McConnell’s SCOTUS as a states’ rights issue before 2024.

by Anonymousreply 47September 11, 2021 10:30 PM

R25, you're full of it. Stop conflating two separate things that are completely unrelated. The Democrat party NEVER suggested kicking people off of social media based on political viewpoint.

by Anonymousreply 48September 11, 2021 11:02 PM

At least with Reddit, you can downvote if you disagree on a particular viewpoint. No kicks or bans required.

by Anonymousreply 49September 12, 2021 3:18 AM

r49, are you joking? They've kicked all women off of reddit who won't suck girldick. Entire platforms and underground communities have cropped up because of the reddit ban of XXs.

by Anonymousreply 50September 12, 2021 6:01 AM

R49, Reddit is the most ban-happy platform there is. And even when members and whole communities aren't being banned, the power-crazed power mods (formerly including Ghislaine Maxwell) are shadowbanning posts. I've had the most mundane posts rejected or shadowbanned for reasons I've never been able to figure out.

I know, I get it. It's their show and they run it as they see fit. But in recent years there have been murky legal issues around moderated platforms. If you decide what does and doesn't get published, then shouldn't you be held partially liable if something illegal happens on your platform? What about civil torts like libel? You may defend yourself by saying you can't monitor what people post, but if you have banned hundreds of groups and thousands of members, that would be open to challenge.

Lord, I miss USENET.

by Anonymousreply 51September 13, 2021 1:40 PM

Nobody is being kicked off foe their “viewpoint.” They’re kicked off for posting lies.

by Anonymousreply 52September 13, 2021 1:44 PM

Reddit is the TwOP of the 20s.

by Anonymousreply 53September 13, 2021 1:53 PM

If anything good comes out of this, it will be the demise of social media as we know it (which we know is absolutely terrible)

by Anonymousreply 54September 13, 2021 1:56 PM

^^ Probably not a bad idea to scale it back. Everyone I know who's backed away from the keyboard has been glad they did.

by Anonymousreply 55September 13, 2021 1:59 PM

One of these companies are based on Texas, so they are not subject to this law.

by Anonymousreply 56September 13, 2021 2:07 PM

None
