Do you prefer the Atlantic Ocean or the Pacific Ocean?

Thoughts? I think the Atlantic is more interesting as far as oceans go.

by Anonymousreply 39September 9, 2021 3:07 AM

This should’ve been a poll.

by Anonymousreply 1September 8, 2021 4:05 AM

Atlantic is better for swimming, especially in the South.

by Anonymousreply 2September 8, 2021 4:19 AM

Pacific has much, much more natural beauty.

by Anonymousreply 3September 8, 2021 4:25 AM

In North America, I've lived on both coasts; Atlantic is much warmer for swimming, so I prefer it...but no hurricanes on the Pacific coast. Each are incredibly beautiful in unique ways.

by Anonymousreply 4September 8, 2021 4:43 AM

The mountains meeting the ocean along the Pacific Coast Hwy is a breath taking view unmatched by anything along the Atlantic

by Anonymousreply 5September 8, 2021 4:44 AM

Gulf coast!

by Anonymousreply 6September 8, 2021 4:55 AM

In Costa Rica you can drive from the Atlantic to the Pacific in one day.

by Anonymousreply 7September 8, 2021 4:57 AM

I agree with everything said here so far. It’s all true.

by Anonymousreply 8September 8, 2021 4:59 AM

I can see the Pacific from my house!

by Anonymousreply 9September 8, 2021 5:19 AM

Boats traversing the Panama Canal from the Atlantic must sail southeast to get to the Pacific.

You're obviously not from New England, especially not New Hampshire or Maine.

by Anonymousreply 11September 8, 2021 5:44 AM

R11, he's also not from Hawaii.

by Anonymousreply 12September 8, 2021 5:52 AM

I have lived near both. There is nothing that compares to the Pacific Ocean from Pebble Beach to The Canadian border. I live in Washington State. Don't visit us! Do visit SoCal!!!

This thread isn't just about the US, though. Ever see the Atlantic Coast of Ireland?

by Anonymousreply 14September 8, 2021 6:22 AM

Also I don't know if it's strictly considered to be on the Atlantic or not but Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland is spectacular.

I like the pacific better.

by Anonymousreply 16September 8, 2021 6:56 AM

I prefer the topography along the Pacific coast.

by Anonymousreply 17September 8, 2021 7:01 AM

R11 I'm from New England and I agree the Atlantic is better for a swim. I live in LA now and the water's always freezing.

In the summer? Water temps in Los Angeles can reach almost 70 degrees in summer. In Maine they range between 50 and 60 in summer. They even warn about hypothermia. It's the Labrador current.

by Anonymousreply 19September 8, 2021 12:40 PM

R19 You may be right, I kind of gave up going in years ago.

by Anonymousreply 20September 8, 2021 1:07 PM

The Pacific ocean is COLD. I wasn't prepared for that the first time I was a naive young thing visiting California. If you actually like to swim then unquestionably the Atlantic is better.

by Anonymousreply 21September 8, 2021 1:10 PM

The Atlantic Ocean makes me look fat.

by Anonymousreply 22September 8, 2021 1:15 PM

Big deal.

by Anonymousreply 23September 8, 2021 1:22 PM

Pacific by far.

by Anonymousreply 24September 8, 2021 1:26 PM

Neither. Icy cold for much of the year. I'll take the Indian Ocean any day.

by Anonymousreply 25September 8, 2021 1:31 PM

I’ve lived on the Indian, Pacific and Atlantic oceans. I’m a surfer, sailor and swimmer and work now occasionally in a field of medicine involving cetaceans.

From my experience involving currents, wildlife, topography and cleanliness, here is a perspective: Indian>Pacific>>>>Atlantic.

For many in the US, the Atlantic is warmer off the coast due to the current from the South. However the same currents result in less variety of wildlife and algae issues. Also waves (baring hurricanes) are less notable. There’s the joke that the US Atlantic is the “gray ocean”.

by Anonymousreply 26September 8, 2021 2:54 PM

It's all about the Arctic Ocean, baby.

by Anonymousreply 27September 8, 2021 3:43 PM

What am I, chopped penguin?

These are strange questions.

That's crazy. Next thing you're going to tell us is that Reno, NV is further west than Los Angeles.

by Anonymousreply 31September 8, 2021 7:18 PM

No, but the Pacific coast of Ireland is lovely.

The one with the tastiest lobsters, Atlantic. Yum!

by Anonymousreply 36September 8, 2021 10:09 PM

I'm bi-oceanic. I love them both.

by Anonymousreply 37September 9, 2021 2:57 AM

"Too many whales on the Atlantic. "

If he had actually gone into the water NYC would have been under 3 feet of water due to displacement. NYC is lucky he's afraid of sharks. The sharks call him BUFFET!

by Anonymousreply 38September 9, 2021 3:05 AM

Atlantic is warmer. But I don't swim any more.

So I guess I prefer the Atlantic. I can walk there. The Pacific requires a plane ride.
