Nino Castelnuovo is DEAD to me!

God, he was so gorgeous. The lead man in "Umbrellas of Cherbourg" among many other films. Died the same day as J-P Belmondo.

He looked like someone who might have been in "Dark Shadows."

Sensual Nino

He did frontal nudity in movies - there must be caps out there somewhere.

by Anonymousreply 6September 7, 2021 10:20 PM

He had a truly hot ass, but he couldn't live forever.

by Anonymousreply 7September 7, 2021 10:25 PM

Gosh, a tough day for French cinema.

R10 That link has about ten provocative poses.

He was wonderful in Umbrellas. He and Deneuve made quite the pair.

by Anonymousreply 12September 7, 2021 10:41 PM

Deneuve was classically pretty (which aged well) but Castelnuovo had a rugged earthiness (which wasn't the same).

by Anonymousreply 13September 7, 2021 11:02 PM

Castelnuovo was big in Europe but wasn't invited stateside.

I get confused between sexy Nino Castelnuovo and sexy Renato Salvatori.

I remember beating off to some hot photo of him (I think from "Camille 2000") that was in one of those annual "Playboy" Sex in the Cinema articles.

by Anonymousreply 15September 7, 2021 11:20 PM

R15 - yes! "Camille 2000" is the movie from which there used to be really hot pics floating around the internet way back when.

by Anonymousreply 16September 7, 2021 11:52 PM

R16 I can only find one today.

by Anonymousreply 17September 8, 2021 2:57 AM

OP- In your photo he does not look particularly heterosexual.

Oh, R18.

I'm rewatching Umbrellas of Cherbourg now in his honor. God, he was hot!

RIP, but I preferred Marc Michel.

He was so handsome!

by Anonymousreply 22September 8, 2021 3:42 AM

Such a good looking actor. Tough year for deneuve, she lost her mother and two rather significant co-stars. Delon too appeared with both and would probably have been aware of Nino.

by Anonymousreply 23September 8, 2021 3:43 AM

Get it, Annette!

Just finished Umbrellas... It's a strange film, but it holds up well. I encourage anyone who hasn't seen it to do a rental. A sung-through anti-musical with a terribly bittersweet ending. The sincerity of the two leads is striking -incredibly powerful performances for such young actors, and all the more for having their entire vocal performance lip-synched. Definitely one of those films you really must see before you die.

Nino Castelnuovo was truly beautiful, and thanks to this film he always will be that dashing, handsome young man that made you feel funny inside and then broke your heart.

He did commercials in Italy for years for "Olio Cuore".

I just checked. The ENTIRE movie Umbrellas Of Cherbourg is available for free on youtube.

by Anonymousreply 27September 8, 2021 5:14 AM

It seems he was in his 60s when he appeared in 'The English Patient'.

That movie was so complicated with its various plots that I didn't realise he was in it. It seems he played a character named 'D'Agostino'.

by Anonymousreply 28September 8, 2021 5:44 AM

Heart stoppingly gorgeous.

Helmut Berger was an absolute nonentity compared to the beauty of Castelnuovo and Alain Delon.

by Anonymousreply 29September 8, 2021 2:44 PM

She went just by "Annette"?

by Anonymousreply 30September 8, 2021 3:06 PM

He and Franco Nero were my two hot Italian heartthrobs in the '60s.

by Anonymousreply 31September 8, 2021 3:30 PM

The third part of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg was so sad.

Perhaps the middle class bourgeois Genevieve didn't properly belong with the rough mechanic Guy.

by Anonymousreply 36September 8, 2021 11:38 PM

I always thought that Guy was so horribly treated by Genevieve. She spends twenty minutes singing of how she will wait forever for him, then dumps him to marry a rich guy. Of course, I wanted to be the one to console him...

by Anonymousreply 37September 9, 2021 2:39 AM

[quote] Guy was so horribly treated by Genevieve

I agree. I couldn't understand if the scriptwriter was making some kind of protest against the Algerian way or if he was a misogynist?

Or if it was a reference to the theme of "Boy meets girl, boys loses girl, boy reconciles with girl"?

Or whether it was a reference to Puccini's 'Boheme', ie Young Romance in three acts (with a boring middle act)?

Anyway, I'm glad I was able to watch the complete movie on Youtube.

Nino Castelnuovo, Terrance Hill, Franco Nero, Fabio Testi....Italy sure had it's share of attractive movie stars back then.
