I know Joan is harsh to everyone, but damn, you can tell Brigitte was seriously upset about the drug comment. No need to go there.
Wow, Joan Rivers was absolutely brutal to Brigitte Nielsen when she was on her show
by Anonymous | reply 92 | September 9, 2021 10:08 PM |
I remember this. I don’t know what they were thinking bringing the boyfriend out too. Brigitte shot daggers at him with her eyes, I wonder what happened after the show ended.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 7, 2021 3:10 AM |
Joan was an insecure, plastic faced cunt. I don’t understand why she is so loved by so many gays.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 7, 2021 3:11 AM |
R2 she was but I bet she would have not voted for Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 7, 2021 3:17 AM |
R3 I disagree. I think she definitely would have voted for him. She also hated the Obamas.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 7, 2021 3:19 AM |
A lot of people hated the Obamas. Including some Dems
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 7, 2021 3:20 AM |
R5 not true. A lot of Democrats did not hate the Obamas. Nice try, though.

R6 I said SOME did.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 7, 2021 3:21 AM |
R8, you said “a lot of people hated the Obamas”….yes. Those people are called Republicans.

I love Joan but she could be a nightmare
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 7, 2021 3:30 AM |
Brigitte should have slapped the shit out of Rivers. For real. Rivers was scared of physical confrontation. She was threatened by Connie Stevens who said the next time she sees her, she was going to punch her. Rivers backed down immediately.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 7, 2021 3:30 AM |
Joan criticized all parties... Reagans, Bush, Clintons, and both Obamas. I'm sad we never heard her Melania jokes.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 7, 2021 3:41 AM |
Rivers never criticized Nancy Reagan.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 7, 2021 3:46 AM |
Brigitte looks fabulous and happy. Joan is a rotting bag of bones and plastic in hell.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 7, 2021 3:46 AM |
“That’s right! It was me in the drugs! So sorry for the mix up!” 🤡
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 7, 2021 4:01 AM |
Rivers sucked up to the Reagans. She did not criticize everyone equally and she would have definitely voted for Trump. She was a cunt who made a fortune by being a triple cunt.
And don't even get me started with her cuntfaced daughter.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 7, 2021 4:13 AM |
R18 So she’s like Mother Theresa?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 7, 2021 4:17 AM |
I saw her a year before she died and she was mostly funny but then she started ragging on North West, saying something like "I mean, that's an ugly baby". I thought the comment had racial overtones.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 7, 2021 4:20 AM |
R20 Joan Rivers? RACIST? Well I never!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 7, 2021 4:21 AM |

I love Joan, but that was mean and very rude the way she treated Brigitte and then rude again the way she treated Brigitte's husband. Very disturbing. I hadn't see that before.

I don’t think she was being rude to her husband.

She was vicious but then people would be vicious back and she would laugh. Didn’t Marlee Maitlin call her a cunt? I could swear someone ran up to Joan on the red carpet to tell her that and she just laughed. She seemed genuinely unfazed.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 7, 2021 10:09 AM |
I'll have what R3 is smoking
Joan was always a mean cunt and always a vocal Republican. She absolutely would have voted for Trump twice and probably would've campaigned for him too.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 7, 2021 10:49 AM |
R27 But would she have donned horns at the capitol on January 6th? Would she have been handed the megaphone after Mo Brooks?

BULLSHIT R27 Should wouldn't have voted for Donald Trump I don't care how Republican she was.

by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 7, 2021 11:17 AM |
Who cares?! Brigitte Nielsen was a Kardashian of her day, famous for multiple divorces, sleeping with married men, being a drunk and getting plastic surgery. She's not talented, smart or interesting.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 7, 2021 11:55 AM |
The thing I don't get is that Joan was supposedly a businesswoman.
Who would have a talk show and intentionally humiliate guests without realizing it was going to get difficult to book anyone good?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 7, 2021 1:52 PM |
[quote]She's not talented, smart, or interesting.
I agree. So why did Joan have her on the show?
Probably because talented, smart, or interesting people didn't need to be insulted on TV to get attention.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 7, 2021 1:54 PM |
She would have went all in for Plump and then screamed about being canceled.
She was extremely insecure and defensive. She is the type to walk up and slap you and then say it was just a joke, relax.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 7, 2021 2:07 PM |
Brigitte Neilson is a funny person. I loved when she was on The Talk and talked about sleeping with Sean Penn to get revenge on Madonna who pushed her at a club.
I loved Red Sonja too.

by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 7, 2021 2:47 PM |
As she aged, her boundaries weakened, to say the least. She would say and do anything to stay upfront in the media. It became pathetic and tedious, IMO
by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 7, 2021 2:50 PM |
What about laughing about something private on national TV. I get her shtick is being honest or mean. I'm not sure Rivers did anything clever with it. She bought it up to make her guest mad?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 7, 2021 2:53 PM |
Joan made cruel remarks about the British Royal Family, including Camilla, yet Joan was an invited guest to Charles and Camilla's wedding. And she and the Prince sent each other gifts at Christmas. Very bizarre.

She was never a Kardashian, and was a LEGIT model who made it big. She was beautiful in her youth!
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 7, 2021 3:16 PM |
Why all the Joan hate on DL recently? This place is a fucking shadow of what it was ten years ago, Joan was hilarious. So what if she was a cunt to no-talent Nielsen?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 7, 2021 3:16 PM |
Also, she is not stupid at all. A lot of times the smartest people seem to be the most complex.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | September 7, 2021 3:16 PM |
This was actually hilarious. Brigitte was acting like a stick in the mud. She was on Celebrity Rehab(for alcoholism not drugs) but I am surprised she was taking herself so seriously. She seem like great fun on other shows I have seen her.
Joan was just teasing.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | September 7, 2021 3:19 PM |
Joan was a bitter cunt and, therefore, a DL icon. But she really was a miserable human being.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | September 7, 2021 3:20 PM |
I remember liking Joan Rivers in the late-70s/early 80s (yes, I’m an eldergay!). It was always a treat to see her on “The Tonight Show”, she was irreverent, self-deprecating and fun.
But as the years went by, that fun shriveled and hardened into something nasty and bitter. Some of the interviews I’ve seen in her later years are really contentious — there was one on YouTube where she abruptly stormed out.
Both on “The Celebrity Apprentice” (which she won despite coming off very poorly to a lot of folks) and in the clip with Nielsen, she appears VERY defensive. She can dish it out, but she lashes out relentlessly of someone dares to say something to her.
Never felt strongly about Nielsen one way or the other (always felt she would have made a terrific Bond Girl in her heyday!) but all she did was remark that Rivers had made some comments about her years earlier, and that was all that was needed to set Rivers off. She was nasty to Nielsen and her husband.

She was a frequent guest host on Carson’s show. When the opportunity came up to have a talk show of her own on a different network at the same time as Carson, she took it. Carson never forgave her.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | September 8, 2021 2:36 PM |
I saw Brigitte Nielsen a year or two ago at the container store, I think she was shopping with her son? buying stuff for new school year, I wonder if he goes to college in nyc...anyways, this was just shortly after she gave birth to a baby, yes I know she's old as fuck...but she was in very good shape! I thought it was hard for women to lose weight when they are over 50s...but she was not fat at all and she was very striking coz of her height and light hair (stands out, you definitely notice her)
by Anonymous | reply 59 | September 8, 2021 2:40 PM |
I never knew that, r58. How fascinating.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | September 8, 2021 2:48 PM |
Brigitte has always been striking. I found her absolutely gorgeous in Rocky 4.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | September 8, 2021 3:16 PM |
Joan was never funny. She was corny. And that worked for humor 40 years ago on t.v.
But as the years went on corny didn’t cut it anymore and she got left in the dust by actual comedians.
Her talent was very limited and very much akin to that of a local entertainer at the annual county fair. She was not a star. She got lucky and then would never go away.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | September 8, 2021 3:51 PM |
Always liked Brigitte. She has a no bs quality I find refreshing, despite her tabloid shenanigans. Maybe they had a run in or words in the past and Brigitte thought everything was ok to go on the show and Joan still had an ax to grind. Joan came off poorly here despite her irreverent shtick.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | September 8, 2021 3:53 PM |
The bi men are out again defending the "stunning", the "hot", the "fit", Brigitte.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | September 8, 2021 3:55 PM |
I was never a fan of Joan but I don’t think having a time slot across from Jonny was unethical.
Maybe if she wasn’t honest about it or didn’t tell him then yes, that’s shady. But she was not wrong for taking the gig.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | September 8, 2021 4:02 PM |
I don’t think she was wrong for taking the gig either. Business is business. And Carson wasn’t a personal friend in the traditional sense of the word. I think though that she did not give him a head’s up until well after everything was ready to go with the show and that was part of the perceived disloyalty.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | September 8, 2021 4:08 PM |
R65, it was a loyalty question for Carson. He, many say rightly, believed that he was largely responsible for Joan’s national profile.
Loyalty has nothing to do with ethics. Often loyalty, particularly the blind sort, requires one to ignore ethics.

by Anonymous | reply 75 | September 8, 2021 8:00 PM |
Carson had a lot of power in those days and could make or ruin a performer. Read Henry Bushkin’s book about his years working for Carson for more details. Joan likely knew if she told Carson before the Fox Show was a done deal that he would strong-arm people at Fox to stop planning Joan’s show. Joan said she had trouble booking guests for her Fox show because people were afraid Carson would black ball them from ever appearing on the Tonight Show again. Even after Carson was long-dead, Leno wouldn’t (or couldn’t) have Joan on. It was a tough situation with two such career-focused people as Carson and Rivers.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | September 8, 2021 8:36 PM |
The only people I've ever heard praise Rivers were up and coming comedians. Apparently she was quite helpful and nurturing to them. But it seems if you weren't in the business she had no time for you.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | September 8, 2021 8:38 PM |
Oh please r68, Joan didn't have working tear ducts since her 35th surgery in 1975.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | September 8, 2021 8:49 PM |
R60 Nothing wrong with that Joan did. In fact, one reason she took the show offer is because she heard from insiders that once Carson was to retired, she wouldn’t be getting the show. So, she did her own.
If he was a true friend and mentor, he would have been happy for her, or at least s professional.

I wouldn't have been surprised if she was a single issue voter on Israel.
I do remember a couple of Nancy Reagan jokes. She had a Falcon Crest one about her in one of her Tonight Show opening monologues.

It's a little silly to say DL is a "shadow of its former self" just because threads on Joan Rivers aren't lovefests these days.
Over the years, DL's opinion of Joan changed. The jokes about her not being able to handle it if anyone criticized Melissa turned into genuine irritation. The more she said things like calling Obama gay and meaning it as an insult, or saying Palestinian children "deserve to be dead," the less people liked her.
The first time I realized DLers were starting to get tired of her was about a decade ago, when she told a woman competitor on "The Apprentice" that she was "worse than Hitler." At first, everyone on DL thought it was funny and it started a meme. But then she went on Larry King and I remember the thread, which started out funny, took a real turn, because Joan was sitting there palling around with Trump, and when Larry asked her directly about the Hitler comment, she got wishy-washy, saying "oh, you just say things, they don't mean anything" but then immediately following it with "but I stand by what I said!"
More DLers than usual were critical of her on that thread, and as the years have gone on, that criticism has continued. It's not unjustified, honestly.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | September 9, 2021 11:43 AM |
She died from lack of oxygen to her brain. They say Johnny Carson's ghost was seen on the premises that day twisting the oxygen line.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | September 9, 2021 2:01 PM |
Freddy DeCordova detailed why she was persona non grata. He often simply said you should always do what's best for you but you should also be professional about it. But in the book, he also detailed how she tried to hire away staff including Peter Lasally and acted like nothing was different including discussing guests for upcoming Tonight show gigs up til the day the new show was going to be announced. And according to Joan, she and Carson had an affair. (Eyes roll.)

BECAUSE she was an insecure, plastic faced cunt. Taking an awful life of feeling like an outsider and deciding to make it into bitchy comedy is the whole gay male experience.
Joan was also one the first celebrities to speak out on AIDS.
