Carole King had the original and best version of It Might As Rain Until September back in her early days. In fact it's my favorite song by her!

No. Helen Shapiro bested Carole. The drumming is great on Shapiro's. Carole's was an acetate demo that was pressed to vinyl, and it sounds it.

R13 Nope!! Carole King wrote the song! It was intended as a hit for Bobby Vee but the record company liked Carole's version so much that they decided to release it as her first single and it was a hit. Helen Shapiro didn't have a hit at all with it - she just did a remake. Carole King has first dibs!!!

I know Carole's was first, dear. And Nevins-Kirshner were cheap so they just put out the demo as a finished recording.

Link to Big Star's September Gurls mentioned upthread. Such a great song, it deserves being mentioned twice.

The September of My Years by Sinatra from his "September of My Years" album. Oh the lyrics are incredible; thank you Sammy Cahn. September Song by Kurt Weill is the track that closes the album.

For me, this is one of Sinatra's albums. None of the Rat Pack, chickey, finger-snapping bravado that he later employed far too often.

The history of Carole King's version is used in the musical "Beautiful." This is Jessie Mueller as Carole (her Tony-winning role) from the OBC album.

I hate jukebox musicals. Those songs' appeal was in the whole record, not just the song itself.

Cheers R6. Love that song, and Andy's voice.

Man, those ABC promos... commercials I have no memory of, yet make total sense; the three networks vying for eyeballs and distinguishing themselves from the others. Of course, then the Fall Preview TV Guide would arrive and provide descriptions of all new and returning programs!

Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends

A great song written by Billie Joe Armstrong of when he was 10. His father died of cancer on on the first day of September and the title of the song is what he told his mother after the funeral.
