Talented beautiful actress and kind human being. Her film career tanked after the huge success of Kill Bill movies.

She’s gorgeous. Loved her in her silly role in “The Producers.”

Age - not box office

She was amazing in some of her early roles. Utterly gorgeous in A Month by the Lake and Dangerous Liaisons in particular. Her charisma was real, not sure why it faded so much. I suspect addiction issues, her love life has been odd as well.

In November of 2017, she starred in a straight play, “The Parisian Woman,” on Broadway. Blair Brown, Philippa Soo and Josh Lukas co-starred. Middling reviews, ran for a few months.

She was never a beauty.

I always thought she was so cool when I was a teen. She got Ethan Hawke's dick in his prime, which was part of it, but I also just loved what she brought to the screen in her Tarantino directed roles. I wanted to be Mia Wallace at 15..........so flaming back then.

Now? She's old. She had some box office failures (quite a few) and she got old. She tried to salvage a few more years with plastic surgery but it didn't go well and took a long time to fix. It's still not completely fixed but it's better.

She's cashing in on Apple+. That seems to be the modern equivalent of doing Japanese commercials - good money for something nobody sees.

I remember there was a period where she had a bunch of flops - including My SuperEx Girfriend” - and that was when her film career died and never recovered.

Tarantino is the only one who uses her well.

In the second round of talks about making a movie, TV or otherwise, about Anita Bryant, Uma Thurman was slated to play the Orange Juice Lady. But that was at least a few years ago and nothing ever came of it.

I love Uma. I heard rumors of a Kill Bill vol 3. Guessing that’ll never happen at this point.

She was excellent playing a trashy Jersey girl in Hysterical Blindness, the 2002 HBO movie costarring Juliette Lewis and Gena Rowlands.

She accused Tarantino of some abusive treatment at the height of MeToo. Mostly psychological and pushing her to take physical risks in his movies. That could not have helped since most of her work came from him.

R14 I enjoyed that I and literally have not thought about that movie since - until you mentioned it just now. Thank you.

Hysterical Blindness is one of my favorite movies ever R14 ! Ive never seen anyone mention it before, how awesome!

That has happened hundreds if not thousands of times throughout moviemaking history and hardly constitutes psychological abuse. Also has nothing to do with #MeToo.

Tarantino publicly apologized and took responsibility for the car crash. And they both said they've made up.

How was she ever a fashion model? She looks like a lizard.

She is a kind person.

She went to Northfield Mount Hermon w a great friend of mine. Have hung out w her on about a half dozen occasions. Whip smart and funny. But she has this weird, high little girl’s voice in real life. It’s odd. But she’s cool. She used to live in Gramercy Park before that River House move. So we usually went to places near there. Always hole in the wall bars.

She has to be used just right, or she comes off as glassy and weird. Tarantino has the knack of it, but a lot of other directors don't.
On top of that, she's in her early 50s. That's dinosaur territory for all actresses whose careers were based on looks.

His ability to use Uma correctly makes me wonder what Tarantino could have gotten out of Noni Ryder in her prime. She has some of the same acting issues as Uma, but Uma's advantage is that she can at least play an adult woman. Winona's acting never worked once she aged out of teen/young adult roles.

She made a lot of paycheck movies after Kill Bill and they were all bombs - “Be Cool”, “The Producers” (she replaced Kidman who dropped out), “My Super Ex-Girlfriend”, “The Accidental Husband”, and then sealed it with the biggest bomb out of all of them “Mortherhood” which grossed $730k on a $10 million budget.
She just wasn’t making anybody any money! She was the only one making it, not the producers of the movies. Not good.

She should play Poison Ivy if they ever include her in a Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey movie.

R18 is an asshole, the kind of Karen who blames rape victims for "dressy slutty"

I'm cancelling this roast!! Uma is from Europia and she's a little too grande. When your feet are no longer pretty, you're done with Tarantino.

I liked her quite a bit in The Golden Bowl, and in Gattaca, as well as in Dangerous Liasons.
I still can't believe she was married to Gary Oldman, who probably had to stand on a ladder to kiss her.

She's the spitting image of her mother, who was a well-known model in the 60s. Uma was in Vogue when she was 15.
Her father is apparently brilliant but looks like a troll, so if she got his brains and her mother's looks, she really did luck out.

Not only did Uma have Ethan Hawke in his prime, she had Gary Oldman (as noted here) in his as well as Timothy Hutton, Andre Balzas and Robert De Niro.
Her relationship with Arpad Busson threw her down for while, they were both supposedly into drugs (coke) when she found out she was pregnant with their daughter. They split up not long after her birth and a bitter custody battle ensued, he lobbed a lot of accusations at her re her mothering, etc.
Incidentally, Uma's mother Nena was briefly married to Timothy Leary before she married Uma's father. Leary later had a common-law marriage and child with Busson's maternal aunt, Joanna Harcourt-Smith.

Maya Hawke is pretty, but her looks are mostly Ethan's.

Her youngest daughter's name is INSANE: “[My 14-year-old daughter Maya] came up with the best excuse, [which] was that I probably wouldn’t get to have any more children, so I just put every name that I liked into it,” Thurman, 42, told Jimmy Fallon of their choice of Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence. “We couldn’t quite agree.”
Nickname: Luna.

The daughter is gorgeous.
I met Uma once and I agree with the poster upthread who hung out with her several times; she is very genuine and kind.
And I’m also R18 and not a rape apologist; I just meant that what Tarantino did doesn’t sound like psychological abuse, and isn’t a #MeToo scenario at all, but I don’t know much about the incident and haven’t seen Kill Bill. Mea culpa, or whatever.

Tarantino defended Weinstein, so there's that. Quentin is that guy who *thinks* he loves and empowers women in his life and work. And he does more than a lot of PIGS. Still, he is a sadistic power tripping pig and fetishist of women. Uma and others pointed it out. No one expects Tarantino to be normal. And he's far from a rapist. He's a sub who rapes women on camera and then gets off on their bloody revenge. And feet.

R31 the mother is still prettier. Uma’s nose always put her into the more interesting/striking Vs pretty category.
She does seem like she would be a pretty cool person to hang out with though I can buy that.
R32 when was this relationship?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 7, 2021 2:18 AM |
Xennial Uma and Busson starting dating around 2008 or so, they had the daughter in 2012 and split a couple of years after that. They only recently ended their ongoing custody dispute.

I respect Uma for not getting a bottlecap nose job in the mid-80s when her modeling career was taking off. You know her agent tried to talk her into it.
