Is Jenny the real villain in “Forrest Gump”?
This is an actual debate that was happening on Twitter. A lot of people find her to be a “bad guy” for numerous reasons, mostly because she’s such a selfish person, despite being deeply traumatized and damaged.
I don’t feel she was a bad guy, but incredibly damaged.

Horrible movie, and Jenny is a fucking cunt. She treats the moron terribly until no one else will have her. Yeah, she’s a villain.

Jenny deserves her own movie. She was the only thing I was interested in during that borefest.

I wasn't aware there is a 'real villain' in Forrest Gump. Why the need to single out any character as villainous?

Eh, she was fucked up from an early age, no way could this end well for her.
Which, of course, it didn’t.

She’s just a person - flawed (obviously) and she eventually gets her shit together. Not everything is black and white - people can be a little of both.
Anyway - Forrest isn’t a hero, he is a survivor who makes the best of every situation (to comical effect). Eventually, Lieutenant Dan and Jenny learn to overcome their shit and move on.
The only villain in the movie is Jenny’s dad and the men she replaces him with…

Jenny was routinely molested and abused throughout her childhood. Just sad she succumbed from AIDS as soon as Forrest got her back.

Shame on you for reminding me of that stupid movie.

Didn’t the author say that she did NOT die from aids?
Did he dislike that association that much that he felt the need to speak up about it?
Didn’t most people who saw the movie think that she did?

Winston Groom is the villain of Forrest Gump.

Of course. She is a woman, isn't she?

It was the early 80's and Jenny was said to have a VIRUS. Anyone with common sense would assume AIDS. She was a rabid druggie and slut.

Rolling my eyes at the comment "She made it all about HER". Well, everyone makes everything about themselves, all the time!
But well, some people expect "the girl" in a movie to make everything all about the hero, like every other "the girl" in every other movie. The sort of people who like "Forrest Gump" seem to get upset when she didn't fit the mold they were expecting.

I loved this film, and I don’t give an F how ridiculously stupid most of it was. To me, it was a perfect film.
Jenny was a free spirit who lucked out and grew up, found true love, yet ended up dead, due to whatever virus she got from sharing straws, or needles or from having sex.
I’m surprised some of you cunts on here are calling her a whore.
Oh REALLY????
LMAO.
You bitches are just jealous she bagged Forrest. Best catch EVAH. If only some of you bitches would be so lucky!

It's a new level when people resurrect a 30 yr old movies characters for analyzing or creating a reason to argue on social media. I thought I'd seen the peak of this with a lengthy 95 reply long tangential argument over the hypersexualization and degrees of ephebophilia posters had by liking two cartoon characters (Daria and Jane were in latex domme wear, in enamel pin form).
Just amazing what people will find to argue about and the cabin fever from covid is bringing a new level of crazy.

Pulp Fiction should have won best picture that year.
Different realize that Princess Buttercup had such a Manish face.
She looked like a raging Uber Dyke and Wonder Woman

P.S. I think less of Jenny as a character than as the exposition of "time" and all that each tumultuous turn this country took through the periods this film spans. She even provides the vehicle for the cycle of life to continue turning, evolving without any self consciousness or awareness.

Forrest Gump is fascist agitprop. Jenny represents all things liberal and progressive. Groom gave her AIDS to make a statement.

R18 Nope, Shawshank Redemption should have won that year. The Academy would never give the Oscar to filth like Pulp Fiction.

I was in school in Germany and missed the whole era of Forest Gump and the Dave Mathews Band. The country was crazy for those two things when I got back and I’ve never really gotten what all the fuss was about.

The writer tried to retcon the virus into Hep C, as if.

Jenny needs to be a villain because movies are now all made for babies, and there can't be any realistically HUMAN characters who do both good and bad things.

R22 A few years ago the Dave Matthews bands truck accidentally dumped some waste from their toilets on some poor people driving nearby in Southern VA . I always thought the incident was a perfect metaphor for their music.

Forrest Gump was coded conservative propaganda. Of course, Jenny who dared to become a hippie, question authority, engage in free love and dabble in the party scene, was the villain in their eyes.

I don't love the film personally but it's received a lot of hate in the last few years. I would argue that it's actually objectively a pretty good film. Well put together and cinematic. The writers suggesting that Jenny didnt actually die from aids, just some other random virus that hadn't been identified was quite strange.

I saw the film when I was a bit of a snob. I found the film offensive, as well as the treatment of Jenny. Here she was the one character who goes out into the world and explores herself, and she ends up getting rewarded with a virus and returning to the simpleton with no self-awareness. It was all very "American" (and I was insufferable about my anti-American attitude at the time). I've grown softer since. I now pine for some of the innocent nostalgia it tried to cultivate.

R22, Forrest Gump was the second highest grossing film in Germany back in 1994, right after The Lion King.

R30, I remember it was 800 lbs of waste dumped over a major Chicago Bridge on a sightseeing boat back in 2004.

I always wanted to read the book because the character of Forest was supposedly a sexual phenom but it was cut out of the movie because supposedly it was felt that a movie audience wouldn’t like sweet , childlike Forest Gump being a sexual , sensual person. As for Jenny she was just fine and she gave Forest a loving son.
