The Gays and Tennis Part 95: Labor Day Weekend at the USO!

third round action underway. So far there have been more upsets in the men's draw, including the biggest yet-newly crowned supervillain Tsitsipas losing in a 5th set tiebreak to Spain's next teen hope Alcaraz.

of course the biggest upset is 18 year old Fernandez taking out defending champ Osaka. Osaka served for the match in the second set but got broken, imploded and didn't recover, losing 6-4 in the 3rd set

by Anonymousreply 449September 6, 2021 8:19 PM

thank you, the last thread was paywalled

by Anonymousreply 1September 4, 2021 2:20 AM

Happy to see this kid get the win and move on.

Osaka is busy doing fashion collabs with swimwear brands, clothing brands like levis etc...and lots and lots of appearances for her sponsors, she doesn't have time to practice!

She's crying all the way to the bank...I don't feel bad for her at all.

by Anonymousreply 2September 4, 2021 2:21 AM

she needs to lose weight, get fit. how can she even call herself a professional athlete?

by Anonymousreply 3September 4, 2021 2:23 AM

I've never seen Osaka get angry like that before and smash her racket (it didn't break though) or hit a ball out of the stands

by Anonymousreply 4September 4, 2021 2:24 AM

That girl played super solid but Osaka fell apart and sprayed so many balls. Dont see the Canadian going far but maybe she has more surprises.

by Anonymousreply 5September 4, 2021 2:29 AM

RBA takes the 4th set.

Will FAA lose another 5 set match after being up 2 sets?

by Anonymousreply 6September 4, 2021 2:30 AM

LOVE that Tiafoe is not wearing long shorts. You can see so much of his big thighs!

by Anonymousreply 7September 4, 2021 2:31 AM

And i dont think Fernandez's leftyness will bother fellow lefty Kerber so much.

by Anonymousreply 8September 4, 2021 2:32 AM

Osaka's behavior was very poor. It's a game!

by Anonymousreply 9September 4, 2021 2:38 AM

wtf a blonde girl guzzled 2 beers on camera in the FAA/RBA match. Her bf gonna have to carry her home

by Anonymousreply 10September 4, 2021 2:50 AM

NO, he's gonna have an easy lay later

by Anonymousreply 11September 4, 2021 2:51 AM

R10 I was just going to post about that. One of the funniest moments of this year's tournament so far.

by Anonymousreply 12September 4, 2021 2:54 AM

Thanks for the new thread!

Naomi’s little tantrum cost her. She can act like such a little baby…Loved seeing Leylah so excited.

Woohoo Carlos! Kick that Tsitsy booty outa Queens!

by Anonymousreply 14September 4, 2021 2:58 AM

The young ones don't fear Osaka. That's such bad news for her this early in her career. Serena was feared for years and years, and won on the intimidation factor.

by Anonymousreply 15September 4, 2021 3:08 AM

Osaka says she will take a break from tennis for a time.

by Anonymousreply 16September 4, 2021 3:09 AM

she's gonna stay home and count her money...

by Anonymousreply 17September 4, 2021 3:11 AM

Such a clear, cool night in NYC. I wish I were at Louis Armstrong in person. These are the best nights for tennis.

[quote]Osaka says she will take a break from tennis for a time.

The bitch HAS BEEN on a break! lmao

by Anonymousreply 18September 4, 2021 3:12 AM

Boris Becker was right, he said her career is in jeopardy months ago.

by Anonymousreply 19September 4, 2021 3:12 AM

Lack of match practice is a big reason why she's not playing well. But she doesn't really want to play tennis. I wonder how her sponsor contracts work - does she have to actively play?!

by Anonymousreply 20September 4, 2021 3:13 AM

FAA gets it done! survives a 5 setter after dropping the 3rd and 4th sets. I like RBA but happy FAA pulled through

by Anonymousreply 21September 4, 2021 3:19 AM

Well, her dad did copy the Williams dad and thought tennis was gonna be their way out of the poor house. So maybe there is pressure from her parents to provide for the family...her sister was never into it and is now painting...

She should just focus on tennis and forget about those social messages etc...she has too much shit going on off the court.

by Anonymousreply 22September 4, 2021 3:21 AM

I wonder how many people Osaka is financially supporting? She's made a chunk of money but at her age, with her swanky lifestyle, the funds could actually run out. She could end up bankrupt by 50.

by Anonymousreply 23September 4, 2021 3:23 AM

I hope she saved and invested wisely. Her brand is damaged and she is no longer a winner. she has a lot of baggage. Would you want your brand to be associated with a mental case and loser?

by Anonymousreply 24September 4, 2021 3:26 AM

Selfishly, I'm glad that Osaka is going away. I hope she stays away for a long time. She brings the whole game down, always flipping out, breaking down, her handlers treating her like a special snowflake, and then accusing media of being bullies. Enough! There are other people on the planet.

by Anonymousreply 25September 4, 2021 3:27 AM

I know R25, other players deserve the spotlight.

by Anonymousreply 26September 4, 2021 3:27 AM

The joyless tennis and constant emotional issues and sadness reminds a lot of when Jennifer Capriati when she was going through the same things very young but on speed. Literally.

by Anonymousreply 27September 4, 2021 3:30 AM

I watched some of Tsitsipas's press conference, and I think he's right. People are making too big a deal of this--he needs to shorten his bathroom breaks, but I don't like a million fans booing him for heaven's sake. He's a good guy I think.

On another note, maybe ESPN could show some tennis? Or wait, we need to hear from Rennae Stubbs about the shifting orbit of the moon, sorry.

by Anonymousreply 28September 4, 2021 3:33 AM

[quote] but on speed. Literally.

No just speed. Coke too.

by Anonymousreply 29September 4, 2021 3:33 AM

Q. I'd like to ask you a tough but honest question. You're a beautiful athlete, bring creativity to the court. Today you not only lost a key match, but this has been a very tough time for your reputation. You got booed out there. Do you have any sense of what has occurred? Have you reflected on it? Do you have any thoughts or regrets?

STEFANOS TSITSIPAS: Look, I'm not pretending that everyone loves me. I don't want to be -- my intentions are not to be loved by everyone. Every person can choose their favorite player, pick a side. I felt that way, but I kind of have ignored it.

Because people don't know, that's the thing. When people are not really in the sport and don't know what is happening, I mean, all these accusations have been completely false. The one in my match in Cincinnati, which was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life. Yeah, that was -- I don't know what to say. I mean, that really shows the level of the person that said it.

Then the crowd here, I guess these two things were the most intense that took place here. I was surprised, I mean, in a way. I mean, I don't really let myself take me down because I'm out there playing my game. I mean, fan support is important, but I just need to go out there and perform. It doesn't matter at that point.

I know all of these things have been against me for no reason. I took my toilet break as a normal athlete. Might have taken a bit longer than other athletes. But if there is a rule that says there's a specific amount of time that you are allowed to take, then I would probably try and follow that protocol, that rule, and stay within the guidelines and try and follow it as much as possible.

But I feel like, you know, people, they don't understand. They are here for the show. They want to watch tennis. They're very impatient, especially the new generation. They just want to get it done quick.

For me the only thing I did is change from wet clothes to dry clothes. Apparently it's a huge issue. Especially -- actually not especially.

When no one discusses other things such as players taking more time than they're allowed to take, that has been an issue for me in the past playing against these players, getting cold, not feeling my game, having to wait more than 30, 35 seconds in between serves that I had -- in one of my matches here I had to wait very long time between first and second serve.

I didn't complain. There is not a rule for that that says how much time you have to take between two serves. But I respected it.

Then you have, yeah, these players that everyone knows they're taking so much time but no one says anything. I don't know why everyone suddenly is against me, especially when other players don't follow rules and don't stick within 25 seconds between play.

Stefanos is not a good guy! Have you forgotten how he took out his frustrations on the ball girls and ball boys? with the towels?!

He insulted the umpire, said he was French and the French are all weirdos. I think he was playing against the russian asshole and he said something about his country as well.

by Anonymousreply 35September 4, 2021 3:46 AM

[quote] the biggest yet-newly crowned supervillain Tsitsipas

I thought the Russian guy was the supervillain. Now there’s a new one?

by Anonymousreply 36September 4, 2021 3:52 AM

He took a toilet break yesterday and came back to win the next set 6-0. His opponent's back got a little stiff. In 6 or 7 min in professional sports in a high intensity match, you body does cool down and it's difficult to come back and play at the same level as you did.

That's what Zverev said at a press conference.

Maybe he wasn't texting his dad but he knew what he was doing.

by Anonymousreply 37September 4, 2021 3:53 AM

The russian asshole was asked by a reporter if he had any advice for stefanos. (Coz he was hated by the crowd and then a few days later, they loved him again)

The Russian asshole didn't say much, just said maybe don't take such long toilet breaks but he doesn't think Stefanos would take his advice.

by Anonymousreply 38September 4, 2021 3:56 AM

Tsitsipas is amassing a solid history of assholery at only 23: the unapologetic smug dismissiveness after smashing a racket that injured his father, the wallowing self-pity to justify breaking the COVID bubble because a tennis player's life at the top is just so difficult raking in those millions, not owning up to taking advantage of the bathroom breaks because "there's no rule" against him taking a shower, etc., while the crowd and his opponent grow cold, plus what R35 has mentioned.

Really hoping that the current top 4 fall soon. They're the worst quartet ever.

Naomi Osaka planning to take break ‘for a while’ after US Open shocker

Naomi Osaka lost her cool, then she lost her U.S. Open title defense. And afterward, a clearly-shaken Osaka suggested she will be taking another break from the game.

Teenager Leylah Fernandez pulled off arguably the biggest stunner of the tournament, rattling Osaka and storming back for a 5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-4 rally during which the champ slammed her racquet three times and left the court after the second-set tiebreak to try to compose herself.

It didn’t help.

An emotional Osaka got teary-eyed in her post-match press conference, admitting she’s “dealing with some stuff.” She said she likely will step away from the game and couldn’t say exactly when she’d be back.

“Basically, I feel like I’m kind of at this point where I’m trying to figure out what I want to do, and I honestly don’t know when I’m going to play my next tennis match,” said Osaka, tearing up. “Yeah. I think I’m going to take a break from playing for a while.”

This came at the end of a night on which the 18-year-old Fernandez took the fight to the 23-year-old Osaka. Fernandez snapped the champ’s 16-match winning streak at majors, reached a Round of 16 for the first time and notched her first win over a top-three foe.

“From the very beginning, right before the match, I knew I was able to win,” Fernandez said in an on-court TV interview, adding she was more intent on her own game than on Osaka’s meltdown. “Honestly, I wasn’t focusing on Naomi. I was only focusing on myself and what I needed to do.”

The 73rd-ranked Canadian’s victory came after either she —or the moment — got to the Japanese star, who slammed her racquet and threw it twice, all during the second-set tiebreak.

By the time Osaka took too long between points, while down 30-0 in the final game, the crowd was cheering for the underdog and jeering the champ.

“Yeah, I’m really sorry about that. I’m not really sure why. … I was telling myself to be calm, but I feel like maybe there was a boiling point. Normally, I feel like I like challenges,” Osaka said. “But recently, I feel very anxious when things don’t go my way, and I feel like you can feel that. I’m not really sure why it happens the way it happens now. But, yeah, it’s basically why. You could kind of see that. I was kind of like a little kid.”

“I feel like for me recently, when I win, I don’t feel happy. I feel more like a relief. And then when I lose, I feel very sad. I don’t think that’s normal. I didn’t really want to cry, but basically I feel like…” Osaka said before welling up.

In contrast was Fernandez, shrieking with joy at the win.

With the first set knotted at 5-all, Fernandez dropped her serve, and Osaka won 10 consecutive points. It was 5-all in the second set when Osaka broke and served for the game. But Fernandez broke back. see also Osaka Naomi Osaka loses cool in stunning US Open loss

That’s where the wheels really came off for Osaka.

After Osaka went down 2-0 in the tiebreak, she slammed the racquet on the court. With Fernandez serving, the teen went ahead 4-0 and Osaka threw her racquet down. And at 5-0, she threw it yet again, an angry spike on the baseline.

Osaka walked off the court after losing the tiebreaker, heading into a small bathroom just off the court with a towel draped over her head.

Fernandez, seizing the moment and playing to the crowd, opened the third set with a break and kept Osaka at bay. When she held to go up 5-3, Osaka had to serve to stay in the match, and she held with an ace. But on match point, when Osaka sprayed her return wide, it was over.

What’s next for Osaka is a mystery.

Tiafoe is so talented but immature on court. He was up 4-2 in the 4th set but he got too distracted by the feedback from the crowd and played 3 terrible games to go down 5-4 and Rublev then played a solid game to go 5 sets

by Anonymousreply 67September 4, 2021 6:21 AM

um any thoughts on Zverev using the mental health excuse to try and stop the press from asking him about the abuse allegations? This was from his first round press conference:

Q. Just getting back to something you said the other day regarding your off-the-court issue, you had said that the German court had confirmed your side and they had agreed that nothing had happened. In reading the ruling, it seems like it's much more of a technical ruling about German law regarding what people can write and what they can't write. I wanted to ask you, to get back to the question, whether you'd be willing to cooperate with an independent investigation like the ATP is talking about for when they review their system?

ALEXANDER ZVEREV: I have said everything. I think my statement was very, very clear, and I think the German court system is also very clear. Just because we're not in Germany right now doesn't mean that the court system is not great.

I have said everything before. And there is also, I mean, there is going to be also further proceedings from my side because I will not let that sit on me, and that's it. I'm not going to comment on it any further, because to be honest, I have been dealing with it for a long time now, and you guys need to be fair to me as well, because we are talking about mental health and all that to players, and this is not healthy for me either.

I'm very happy with how things went in the past few days, few weeks. I think a lot of people try to twist what I said and try to twist my words on that statement, but I think it was very, very clear. That's it.

by Anonymousreply 68September 4, 2021 6:32 AM

Osaka is taking a break from tennis again? Let's see, there was the long Covid break for the entire tour last year. Osaka then took a break and didn't play after the USA Open. Played the Oz Open this year and only a handful of matches after that. Had the snowflake tantrum in Paris, took another break, came back for the Olympics, played a few summer matches, and now she needs another break?

This is the bitch who had the nerve to compare herself to normal working people who get sick days and personal time away from work? How many of us could afford to show up at work for maybe just 3 months over a two year period and still take home $60M? Did her really busy summer schedule of 8 matches exhaust her physically and mentally?

by Anonymousreply 69September 4, 2021 7:03 AM

Team FAA. Tiafoe is too annoying with his cheap and tacky attempts at showmanship.

We need the younger players to step up and start winning. FAA has a very good chance to make it to the final if he keeps his focus.

by Anonymousreply 70September 4, 2021 7:06 AM

Yes Osaka, take your break but don't come back before next year's European clay court season.

No need to hurry things up.

We can survive seven months without you..

by Anonymousreply 71September 4, 2021 7:08 AM

Titsy losing was the best result of the tournament so far with bitch cunt Misery's 1R loss to Titsy in second place. Please tennis gods, please make Novaxx, Med, Zverev, Tiafoe and Bianca all lose before the semis.

by Anonymousreply 72September 4, 2021 7:11 AM

I was critic with Felix often but it's pretty obvious that he is doing better at GS later and he has a great opportunity here because right now he is the favourite of that part of the draw to reach semifinals.

And he was very nice saying that on the gay day (to be fair Tsitsipas said something similar).

And i agree with who said that for Naomi tennis and not social media and sponsors work is the distraction, the problem is she is so demanded by sponsors because she is a great tennis player, without tennis she doesn't cost a thing.

So unforntunately for her, she needs to regroup herself and start to play well again and her earnings will go down pretty fast.

Alcaraz has a hard task against Gojowicz, it won't be the first time that after a big win comes big dissapointment, and that victory will put him on the top 40 and ver near of seeded positions.

I remember people laughing at Juan Carlos Ferrero when he said the objective was to be top 50 by the end of the year and now he could do way better than that if he has a little luck

by Anonymousreply 73September 4, 2021 9:56 AM

And Medvedev is almost a sure shot for the final right now.

In that part of the draw there are a lot of talent but none of the players seem solid enough to trouble the russian

Read more about Osaka’s press conference and have a lot more sympathy than I did when watching the match.

She’s been suffering from crippling depression. If anyone has gone through anything like that, it’s a misery. And it doesn’t matter how much money you have.

by Anonymousreply 79September 4, 2021 11:15 AM

I agree with R79. If Naomi wants to take a break, let her do it. She’s in control of her own life and her own career. Why force her to do something that isn’t giving her any happiness?

If she comes back in better shape mentally, good for her. If she decides to retire, good for her.

by Anonymousreply 80September 4, 2021 11:37 AM

Whatevs. It's all TMI for me.

I really don't need or want to know that much about a professional athlete's emotional problems.

by Anonymousreply 81September 4, 2021 11:40 AM

Yep, I find Osaka very annoying but I think it's more to do with immaturity rather than a a fundamentally 'bad' personality. She should do a Barty and take a year to figure out what she really enjoys. If she decides to come back I hope she's able to put aside the distractions and just focus on enjoying playing the game.

by Anonymousreply 82September 4, 2021 11:44 AM

R80 It'll be better for her if she takes the time.

The problem is she seems to enjoy a lot of things that fame brings and there's no fame without tennis for her.

But she needs time to realize what she wants to do because if she continues this way she is not going to win anything

by Anonymousreply 83September 4, 2021 11:52 AM

Tsitsipas continues to figure out ways to lose. He should have won that third set up TWO breaks, but then he couldn't buy a first serve. He played a less-than-stellar tiebreak in the third, too. These types of losses are mounting for him. I kept rolling my eyes when the ESPN commentators kept saying things like Tsitsipas is a problem solver and he figures things out. No, he's a problem CREATOR and his own worst enemy. I love to watch his tennis, but Tsitsipas is increasingly disappointing in his ability to lose matches he should be winning.

The bathroom break "controversy" is overblown. I've watched tennis for years and I've seen players use all sorts of gaming tactics. The serve clock was pretty much invented because of players like Nadal and Djokovic and how ridiculously long they took to serve and how it was affecting their opponents. And Nadal still loses his shit when he gets called on going over time, even so far as refusing to have a certain umpire in his matches who consistently called him on it. Nadal has been known to take medical timeouts and bathroom breaks at crucial points in matches, too, over the years. If it's that egregious, change the rules. It all reminds me of when Martina Navratilova complained about Monica Seles's grunting. Monica had done that for years but when did Martina complaint about it? When Seles beat her in her own "house" on Centre Court at Wimbledon. Only then was the grunting suddenly an issue. It all just comes off as sour grapes.

Alcaraz is a real talent. Unlike Tsitsipas, who finds way to lose matches, this kid stayed with it and fought until the end. Alcaraz's shot selection was better, too, working points, mixing it up, and hitting the best disguised drop shots I've ever seen. After making two unforced errors on match points in the 5th set tiebreak, Alcaraz regrouped, took control of the rally on Tsitsy's serve, then blasted a winner in the corner off a slow floater-lob that landed close to the baseline, which is not an easy shot to respond to or control since Alcaraz had to generate his own power off that lob. Just a stunning level of composure from an 18 year old.

I really think this generation under Zverev-Tsitsipas-Medevedev-Rublev are going to overtake that group. They seem fearless and really want to win. Despite his problems, Rune impressed me against Djokovic by believing he should be beating the #1 player in the world. They all have the talent, but it's their attitudes and self-belief will take them far.

by Anonymousreply 84September 4, 2021 1:01 PM

The pile on over Tsitsy and the lack of other pros speaking up for him appears to suggest he's generally perceived to be crossing a line by his peers. Or else he's so unpleasant that they hate him anyway, which seems unlikely.

Not to be over simplistic or even crude about Osaka's depression (because I do like her game when she's on), but...wouldn't pro tennis actually HELP her endorphins/depression all the more because of the physicality being a natural fix? It would also help with her apparent weight issue as well. Take a loss. Take another loss. Keep taking losses until it all clicks again and the weight is at a decent level for the top ranks.

Take time off? Why? To wallow in self pity? Go get the professional psychological help needed, but supplement it with top flight tennis--one of these days she'll regret not playing and the game will have passed her by. There are other Fernandez players out there who want to win, who want to collect trophies and prize money and all the other perks.

I've gone through depression in the past too, and I'm really not trying to be an asshole here, but there's a lot to be said for physical activity, and the goal should be that, not if she wins or loses. I'd love to see her change her mind and sign up for some clay tournaments, her worst surface, and work on her game--the rest will follow naturally.

I support her liberal causes, but damn, depression or not, she comes off as such a delicate princess, and it just doesn't look or sound good.

Honestly, too, it's just a fucking tennis match. She's not discovering a cure for cancer.

by Anonymousreply 86September 4, 2021 1:55 PM

R85 its weird too. Maybe he over abused the tactic but he didnt invent it. Hes not the first or only person that does that.

by Anonymousreply 87September 4, 2021 1:56 PM

I thought Fernandez did great to keep her focus and finish off Osaka. I get that she's only 18 and just had the biggest win of her career, but she did come off a bit cocky after to me. She can't count on Kerber imploding like Naomi did. She'll have her hands full. I did laugh when she said that Bouchard was an inspiration. You do know where her career went, right?

Tsitsy is correct in that he is not breaking rules, but he is thumbing his nose at sportsmanship. I've watched tennis for years and have never seen a male player take bathroom breaks like he does. Sharapova pulled that shit all the time and she was loathed by the other players. If that's his goal, he's well on his way.

by Anonymousreply 88September 4, 2021 2:00 PM

Yeah Fernandez sounded as cocky if not more so than Serena. At least she has 23 majors to back up that attitude.

by Anonymousreply 89September 4, 2021 2:08 PM

Top seeds Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic are already out in the opening round of the men’s doubles, following a 6-2, 7-5 upset to American wild cards Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow

I can't wait to see what Naomi is gonna wear to the Met gala! I wonder if she will even gain more weight...

I thought she looked fatter last night compared to at the beginning of the US Open.

by Anonymousreply 91September 4, 2021 2:22 PM

I didn't think that 18 year old girl was anything special. Osaka should have won the match. She lost it completely.

by Anonymousreply 92September 4, 2021 2:31 PM

Stefanos has an album out! it's only 3 tracks, called AIKA. It's on his insta stories.

by Anonymousreply 93September 4, 2021 2:37 PM

I expect Tsitsy's been told to reign it in behind the scenes but has ignored the warnings (probably 'cos Daddy says so).

by Anonymousreply 94September 4, 2021 2:48 PM

Stefanos is very spoiled and quite immature. He has a lot of growing up to do.

She has been penciled in for many finals and got endorsement deals.

by Anonymousreply 98September 4, 2021 3:22 PM

R97, I’m rooting for him to best Djokovic.

by Anonymousreply 99September 4, 2021 3:24 PM

I definitely prefer Med to Zverev. Zverev has been on fire recently though - or at least gotten his double faults under control…

I think that long bathroom breaks have been around a while, BUT he has started taking them recently. Also - he takes these extended breaks every fucking match. This also coincided with his dad getting caught coaching less frequently. They’ll eventually change the rule because he is blatantly abusing it.

by Anonymousreply 100September 4, 2021 3:31 PM

Speaking of Chrissie and her pencil, she said hitting with Gael Monfils is the reason for Svitolina's success. Because women can only be succesful when there's a man involved

Chris Fowler brings up how unpopular Djokovic is constantly. And none of the former players who are commenting alongside him take the bait.

by Anonymousreply 108September 4, 2021 3:45 PM

JFC, Ivashka sounds like he's mid-bathroom break with each stroke, like Seles with a megaphone.

Did Chrissy actually say the part in bold or did you infer that? If she only said the first part I don't see what's so bad about it. Monfils is still an active player on the ATP tour. Hitting with him is obviously going to be much better practice for her than hitting with a retired coach or someone who has never been a pro.

by Anonymousreply 113September 4, 2021 4:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 116September 4, 2021 5:28 PM

Are any of you on Otteam?

by Anonymousreply 117September 4, 2021 5:31 PM

R111 He and Rublev were very friendly at the end of the match.

Petkovic had a lot of kind words to Muguruza after their match, people were surprised at how friendly they were at the net but it seems they are very good friends.

by Anonymousreply 118September 4, 2021 6:13 PM

by Anonymousreply 123September 4, 2021 6:57 PM

i didn't see anything wrong with novak's eyes...

he lost the first set. but I wouldn't count him out.

by Anonymousreply 124September 4, 2021 7:00 PM

one of them is smaller than the other one

by Anonymousreply 125September 4, 2021 7:01 PM

R124 That's because he always finds a way to come back and Nishikori is not the most reliable player right now (but at least he is putting a good effort)

by Anonymousreply 126September 4, 2021 7:02 PM

Yeah unless Kei goes up 2 sets to love and a break I'm not getting my hopes up for the upset. And even then.....

by Anonymousreply 127September 4, 2021 7:03 PM

MOnfils served for the first set, but he was broke and now Sinner has 5 set balls

by Anonymousreply 128September 4, 2021 7:03 PM

Nishikori seems to be banking on his strategy of going at Djokovic's backhand.

by Anonymousreply 133September 4, 2021 7:28 PM

How is Medvedev’s mole this tournament?

by Anonymousreply 134September 4, 2021 7:37 PM

Another 4th rd finish would be great for Raducanu. Soon she wont have to qualify for majors.

by Anonymousreply 135September 4, 2021 7:40 PM

Felix is more polite and refined than most of the other next gens.

But i have to say that i find Shapo's hit (the one featuring Corentin Moutet) strangely catchy

by Anonymousreply 136September 4, 2021 7:41 PM

R135 Yes, I'll be honest, I think that she looks like a top 10-20 player. Her ranking is only so low because she's new.

by Anonymousreply 137September 4, 2021 7:42 PM

R133 I'm surprised at how bad Sorribes is doing, she is generally very solid

by Anonymousreply 138September 4, 2021 7:42 PM

R138 yes, me too. Emma seems able to keep up with her in the rallies which makes the difference.

by Anonymousreply 139September 4, 2021 7:45 PM

Is Coco still the GOAT, or are Fernandez and Raducanu overtaking her?

by Anonymousreply 140September 4, 2021 7:53 PM

Coco is still the goat.

by Anonymousreply 141September 4, 2021 8:01 PM

Raducanu is overrated but the lame Brit media will treat her like the next coming of Serena or Steffi or Martina.

by Anonymousreply 142September 4, 2021 8:04 PM

Who is best Netgen?

by Anonymousreply 143September 4, 2021 8:05 PM

R140 Coco is younger than both and did way more things than both

by Anonymousreply 144September 4, 2021 8:08 PM

I guess Raducanu is overrated but at 18 she really has stormed onto the tour with great results at the biggest tournaments in the last 2 months. The hype makes sense. She has a solid game too.

by Anonymousreply 145September 4, 2021 8:11 PM

G*E*M*S*Life team or Sinner team?

Kei Pond team or Nole team?

by Anonymousreply 146September 4, 2021 8:16 PM

Monica, Steffi, Hingis and Serena had all won Slams by the time they were 18. Raducanu has only reached the fourth round twice. I think Coco GOAT is overhyped but she has at least had enough good results already.

by Anonymousreply 147September 4, 2021 8:16 PM

NOLE

by Anonymousreply 148September 4, 2021 8:18 PM

I'm really digging Sinner's long legs. They're looking quite nice today.

by Anonymousreply 149September 4, 2021 8:19 PM

I didn't expect Nishikori to win but I'm glad he at least took a set off Djokovic. The longer he's on court the better. Nishikori is coming off of a tough 5 set win over McDonald. The only good thing is it's only the third round so Nishikori is not injured or dead tired yet. He's definitely 1 of the players none of the seeds wanted see early in the tournament as he's fresh.

With Sinner vs. Monfils I hope Sinner finishes this off because Monfils will no doubt be injured in the next round. He always plays long marathons and then fizzles out against higher ranked players.

by Anonymousreply 150September 4, 2021 9:01 PM

Sinner completely implodes and he and Monfils are going 5.

by Anonymousreply 151September 4, 2021 9:05 PM

Sinner from 4-0 to 4-6 lol

by Anonymousreply 152September 4, 2021 9:06 PM

Results so far:

Sakkari upsets Kvitova 6-4 6-3

Andreescu def. Minnen 6-1 6-2

Bencic def. Pegula 6-2 6-4

Berrettini def. Ivashka 6-7(5) 6-2 6-4 2-6 6-3

Otte def. Seppi 6-3 6-4 2-6 7-5

Raducanu def. Sorribes Tormo 6-0 6-1

by Anonymousreply 153September 4, 2021 9:15 PM

the match really turned in the second set. Nishikori had 7 break point chances against Djokovic but couldn't get it done. Then he gets broken twice and the momentum never really shifted again

by Anonymousreply 154September 4, 2021 9:16 PM

Kvitova flops again. She keeps playing like shit at the Slams.

by Anonymousreply 155September 4, 2021 9:17 PM

it's almost over for the Japanese.

by Anonymousreply 156September 4, 2021 9:27 PM

by Anonymousreply 158September 4, 2021 9:29 PM

I don't see any issue with what Chrissie said about Monfils. Plenty of sportswomen practise against men and even (in team sports) boys teams - these are stronger opponents than they will ever face normally, so it makes sense.

[quote]WOW. And with that the favourite Barty is out. WTA being WTA.

by Anonymousreply 218September 5, 2021 8:18 AM

I've started to get rather fond of Barty over the past few months. I used to call her Borety before but her relaxed, no frills, no drama, no nonsense approach to playing is so refreshing especially when compared to all the attention whore drama queens and snowflakes who have infested the WTA.

Of the players left in the draw now the only one I like is Angie Kerber. Which means I have probably jinxed her too und she will now lose to some unknown.

I don't mind even the beasts Sabalenka or Sakkari winning. Anyone other than the awful, annoying Andreescu and the overrated Raducanu, please. (No, I am not anti-Romanian. I would be very happy if Halep won.)

by Anonymousreply 219September 5, 2021 8:41 AM

Sad to see Barty go, but her performances against Zvonareva and Tauson weren't that great, she already had a few blackout moments. Plus the girl is just too emotional. She did everything she could to lose her Wimbledon final, but Pliskova was a even bigger mental case then her.

I have to say that after two decades I can't stand these aggressive ball bashers anymore. Andreescu, Osaka, Giorgi, Swiantek... what's the difference? I'm so full of this playing style. Give me more Barty and Krejcikova, please. Girls who can slice, play at the net and work that ball with craft.

by Anonymousreply 226September 5, 2021 1:28 PM

I wouldn't be surprised to see Sakkari come through and win this slam (she's already had a tough draw so must be feeling confident - and was one point away from a GS final at the French). Or maybe Bencic after reviving her dead career at the Olympics.

by Anonymousreply 227September 5, 2021 1:35 PM

Emma could win.

by Anonymousreply 228September 5, 2021 1:58 PM

Also Jack sock should have just quit in set 1. He fucked up his leg even more by playing. It's not like he was gonna win the match.

by Anonymousreply 229September 5, 2021 1:59 PM

They have to get through me first!

by Anonymousreply 230September 5, 2021 2:08 PM

Zevrev never married that whore. He asked her out when he saw that "model" at a cafe. Just another money grab like all those whores who go to NBA games and hotels to try to snag an NBA player for 18 years of child support.

by Anonymousreply 231September 5, 2021 2:26 PM

I've watched a few post match interviews with Emma and she seems like a good kid, and she supposedly aced her A levels a few weeks ago, smart! She got A star in Maths and A in Economics!

I'll be happy if she wins.

by Anonymousreply 232September 5, 2021 2:40 PM

Schlup Team or Lil Diego Team?

by Anonymousreply 233September 5, 2021 3:21 PM

Diego for me

by Anonymousreply 234September 5, 2021 3:23 PM

I'll be happy as long as Krejcikova takes out Mugu.

by Anonymousreply 235September 5, 2021 3:27 PM

i'm digging the pink rackets.

by Anonymousreply 236September 5, 2021 3:35 PM

can't wait to see baby nadal play today

by Anonymousreply 237September 5, 2021 3:38 PM

Yea right, R231, because those guys are blameless for where they splatter their baby batter. And if they happen to be having a bad day, whoever yanks their chains deserves to get beat up.

by Anonymousreply 238September 5, 2021 4:05 PM

R238 I am not R231 but I am a woman, and I know what women do. Man has to pay for your pills if you cannot afford it ? Because I don't believe any man forces you to not take pills.

by Anonymousreply 239September 5, 2021 4:33 PM

Schlup Team

by Anonymousreply 240September 5, 2021 4:34 PM

Botic can get it.

by Anonymousreply 241September 5, 2021 4:38 PM

R239, that's not my point at all. Either be willing to incur the risk and suffer the consequences, or don't incur the risk. Also the pill is not 100% effective.

by Anonymousreply 242September 5, 2021 4:40 PM

Svitolina really is an amazing pusher. She does it sooo well.

by Anonymousreply 243September 5, 2021 4:44 PM

they both got what they wanted. He got the easy pussy and she got the baby and paychecks. win/win.

by Anonymousreply 244September 5, 2021 4:47 PM

Damn Diego ain't doing great.

by Anonymousreply 245September 5, 2021 4:48 PM

R24 nothing is 100% effective but pills are the best in preventing pregnancy. I have taken them for years I never got pregnant, lol and what you mean by incure the risk? if woman cheats and avoids taking pills for instance because she wants to have baby , what man can do? There are tons of stories like that. Yuu think Zverev didnt want her to take pills? good joke

by Anonymousreply 246September 5, 2021 4:50 PM

Schlup up two sets!

by Anonymousreply 247September 5, 2021 4:51 PM

Does anyone find Jason Goodall sexy as hell?

by Anonymousreply 248September 5, 2021 4:51 PM

This Bottom Van De SinSlut is the real thing.

by Anonymousreply 249September 5, 2021 4:52 PM

Diego team. Stopped watching Schlup after seeing him mock and ridicule Ben Shelton in the qualies. Shelton brings a lot of typical NCAA enthusiasm to the court, so Schlup decided to start mimicking him after Sheltonwon the first set. Schlup started jumping up and down and yellling whenever he hit a decent shot, after his completely stoic first set.

by Anonymousreply 250September 5, 2021 4:55 PM

R248, he's not ugly but I don't find him sexy.

by Anonymousreply 251September 5, 2021 4:55 PM

Seriously, R246? I can think of lots of ways to get off without risking pregnancy.

by Anonymousreply 252September 5, 2021 4:57 PM

R252 such like?

by Anonymousreply 253September 5, 2021 4:58 PM

Diego gets the easiest draws and is still screwing it up.

by Anonymousreply 254September 5, 2021 4:58 PM

Look at all the tops coming for my Botic Slurp when I was the first to discover him.

by Anonymousreply 255September 5, 2021 5:02 PM

R212, Zverev as bad boy makes him hotter.

by Anonymousreply 256September 5, 2021 5:05 PM

R253, ignoring that this is a gay site (Zverev wouldn't be in this predicament if he had just given it up for Melo), I'll leave this here.

by Anonymousreply 257September 5, 2021 5:05 PM

Yep, grease fire hot, R256.

by Anonymousreply 258September 5, 2021 5:09 PM

I'm on Zandschulp's side there, R250. Acting overly enthusiastic on every single damn point is a huge turn-off. It is my number one complaint with that idiot Shapovolov. It's super unsportsmanlike to celebrate every point like you have won the match.

by Anonymousreply 259September 5, 2021 5:21 PM

Simona about to lose…

by Anonymousreply 260September 5, 2021 5:26 PM

the worst is when his opponent does UE and shapo is happy like hell

by Anonymousreply 261September 5, 2021 5:28 PM

I can't stand Shapo's brand of yelling and fist pumping either, R259. Shelton's not even remotely that bad. He's just very enthusiastic without being obnoxious. Whereas Schlup was very stoic and then got annoyed and exploded and turned into a complete asshole in the second and third sets. Shelton looked crestfallen after Schlup basically yelled in his face after Schlup won a point when both were at the net.

by Anonymousreply 262September 5, 2021 5:30 PM

Schlup is handsome. Nice bone structure and lovely blue eyes.

by Anonymousreply 263September 5, 2021 5:32 PM

goodbye Diego.

by Anonymousreply 264September 5, 2021 5:38 PM

Guess marriage agrees with Snooze-o-lina.

by Anonymousreply 265September 5, 2021 5:40 PM

Mirka's not singing yet, R264.

by Anonymousreply 266September 5, 2021 5:41 PM

VdeZ is very AWG looking.

by Anonymousreply 267September 5, 2021 5:51 PM

by Anonymousreply 270September 5, 2021 5:59 PM

R248 no he's ugly

by Anonymousreply 273September 5, 2021 6:13 PM

omg, his wife's mole is so ugly!

But I give him credit for still loving her and marrying her despite that ugly mole.

She would look much better if she removed it.

No, I am not the mole troll.

Jesus Christ Botic you really like to play with my heart. 4-2 in the third, lost. 2 match points in the fourth, lost. But he did it in the end. Time for a nice reward.

by Anonymousreply 278September 5, 2021 7:33 PM

Daniil is going to crush him in the next round

by Anonymousreply 279September 5, 2021 7:34 PM

I swear, I've looked at Daniil a thousand times and I don't see a mole. Now his wife on the other hand...

by Anonymousreply 280September 5, 2021 7:35 PM

R280 it's on his right cheek. It's the same color as the rest of his skin so depending on the camera lighting you can't always see it.

by Anonymousreply 281September 5, 2021 7:46 PM

I don't like this cocky teenager

by Anonymousreply 282September 5, 2021 7:54 PM

Fernandez is really annoying and arrogant.

by Anonymousreply 283September 5, 2021 8:02 PM

If she is canadian i am japanese

by Anonymousreply 284September 5, 2021 8:03 PM

Kerber needs to give that little bitch a beatdown

by Anonymousreply 285September 5, 2021 8:04 PM

She's only a teenager but are tits are already so saggy! they are down on her waist!

by Anonymousreply 286September 5, 2021 8:04 PM

Her mother is filipino and her dad from ecuador

by Anonymousreply 287September 5, 2021 8:05 PM

Fernandez is simply the typical top junior diva. Tauson is a spoiled brat too

by Anonymousreply 288September 5, 2021 8:05 PM

I am fascinated by Medvedev's nipples. I wonder if he likes having them played with

by Anonymousreply 289September 5, 2021 8:11 PM

Fernandez has a real chance here. Kerber doesn't have the power to hit her off the court

by Anonymousreply 290September 5, 2021 8:15 PM

I am going to be very upset if this brat wins

by Anonymousreply 291September 5, 2021 8:15 PM

Kerber's beaten Serena. I don't think Fernandez has that much game.

by Anonymousreply 292September 5, 2021 8:17 PM

R292 Fernandez is little but she has big groundstrokes for her size. She's more like Cibulkova than a typical tiny counterpuncher. She also moves quite well. While Serena usually defeated Kerber, the times she lost were when Kerber was able to run down that extra ball and outlast her in rallies. Kerber is now over 30 and it's going to be harder to outlast 18 year old Fernandez. Kerber is going to have to be more aggressive or just hope Fernandez gets tight and hits herself out of the match

by Anonymousreply 293September 5, 2021 8:19 PM

Kerber vs Fernandez, it's interesting to watch two lefties on court, trying to serve wide will be a challenge.

by Anonymousreply 294September 5, 2021 8:23 PM

neither has much of a serve so it won't be surprising if there are many breaks

by Anonymousreply 295September 5, 2021 8:24 PM

I would put money on Kerber being in as good of shape as Fernandez.

by Anonymousreply 296September 5, 2021 8:27 PM

the serve is totally gone from Fernandez now, the match will be over soon if she can't get it back!

by Anonymousreply 297September 5, 2021 8:29 PM

Fernandez' level has dipped and Kerber has stepped up her aggression

by Anonymousreply 298September 5, 2021 8:33 PM

LOL so the little snot took a potty break

by Anonymousreply 299September 5, 2021 8:36 PM

Come on Angie, slap that bitch down!

by Anonymousreply 300September 5, 2021 9:03 PM

[QUOTE] I am fascinated by Medvedev's nipples. I wonder if he likes having them played with

R289 I'm wondering same thing.

by Anonymousreply 301September 5, 2021 9:50 PM

Oh my God, Fernandez's constant celebrating and fist-pumping is repugnant.

Someone like Martina Hingis would have torn her to shreds.

by Anonymousreply 302September 5, 2021 10:01 PM

lol’ Leylah beats Kerber.

by Anonymousreply 303September 5, 2021 10:08 PM

Lil’ Leylah beats Kerber.

by Anonymousreply 304September 5, 2021 10:08 PM

Gross. She’s going to be even more insufferable now

by Anonymousreply 305September 5, 2021 10:13 PM

Leyla reminds of Hingis, great anticipation and great hands. Maybe better nerves!

by Anonymousreply 306September 5, 2021 10:14 PM

What the problem with Leylqh? I kind of like her spunk

by Anonymousreply 307September 5, 2021 10:17 PM

I don’t like spunk.

by Anonymousreply 308September 5, 2021 10:18 PM

I love this kid. She has the competitive fire that I’ve yet to see in Gauff.

by Anonymousreply 309September 5, 2021 10:18 PM

Svitolina versus Leylah is going to be fun. They both get everything back.

by Anonymousreply 310September 5, 2021 10:23 PM

Looking forward to Raducanu tomorrow. She’s also for real.

Can’t believe Chrissy is still saying Coco is the standout of the next generation. Need to see more before I’m willing to say that.

by Anonymousreply 322September 5, 2021 10:54 PM

The bottom 8th section of the women's draw was by far the toughest as it included Osaka, Kerber, Stephens, Keys, Gauff and Yastremska yet Fernandez is the one who emerged to reach the QF.

R296 Kerber is definitely in great shape but you could see in the third set she was the one losing her patience in the third set. She was getting worn down

by Anonymousreply 323September 5, 2021 11:45 PM

Tiafoe vs. FAA 2 of the best bodies especially legs in tennis!

by Anonymousreply 324September 5, 2021 11:46 PM

Tiafoe is unattractive.

by Anonymousreply 325September 5, 2021 11:50 PM

R325 I think he's cute. I love his gap-toothed grin.

by Anonymousreply 326September 5, 2021 11:53 PM

Post your picture r325 so we can compare him to you.

by Anonymousreply 327September 5, 2021 11:54 PM

Tiafoe and FAA are both studs. Not gorgeous but cute with great bodies and fun personalities

by Anonymousreply 328September 5, 2021 11:59 PM

Tiafoe team or FAA team?

by Anonymousreply 329September 6, 2021 12:05 AM

Tiafoe is hot and you could stack dishes on his ass.

by Anonymousreply 330September 6, 2021 12:08 AM

I'm so horny watching this match.

by Anonymousreply 331September 6, 2021 12:12 AM

I can’t pick a team! I’ll be happy for whoever wins…

But it looks like it’ll be Tiafoe.

by Anonymousreply 332September 6, 2021 12:24 AM

Real question: are these the only two black dudes on the tour?

by Anonymousreply 333September 6, 2021 12:41 AM

R333 je ne sais pas

by Anonymousreply 334September 6, 2021 12:51 AM

No. Donald Young, Gael Monfils, and that Ymer guy are all black as well.

by Anonymousreply 335September 6, 2021 12:51 AM

Tsonga too.

by Anonymousreply 336September 6, 2021 12:52 AM

And Michael Mmoh, Christopher Eubanks & Dustin Brown

by Anonymousreply 337September 6, 2021 12:56 AM

Does Dustin Brown even play full time?

by Anonymousreply 338September 6, 2021 1:01 AM

by Anonymousreply 339September 6, 2021 1:03 AM

by Anonymousreply 340September 6, 2021 1:10 AM

Alcaraz is the definition of butterface

by Anonymousreply 341September 6, 2021 1:10 AM

R339 He's ranked 98 and he's played tournaments this year, including the French Open and Wimbledon, but notably he lost in the first round of all but one of them. Once his ranking drops enough that he can't automatically get in main draws I wouldn't be surprised to see him retire. He's 36-years-old now.

by Anonymousreply 342September 6, 2021 1:11 AM

R338, Dustin Brown plays mostly on the challenger circuit, but he is a full-time player.

by Anonymousreply 343September 6, 2021 1:12 AM

i can only imagine see tiafoe's ass nude in the locker room and wet from a shower! whew lordy be! what a sight! great out and up bubble butt he has....

tsonga's wife is very very pretty ......

by Anonymousreply 344September 6, 2021 1:13 AM

There are two Ymer brothers, Mikael and Elias, on the tour. Other black players not mentioned yet are Ulises Blanch, Darian King, Raven Klaasen, and Ben Shelton.

by Anonymousreply 345September 6, 2021 1:23 AM

Vika Azarenka thought she was black for a while.

by Anonymousreply 346September 6, 2021 1:27 AM

Fernandez played great today - out Kerber-ed Kerber. Alcaraz is a bundle of energy; didn't expect him to cruise after being down 1-2 in sets.

Tiafoe v. FAA - not the highest quality so far, but I expect a roller coaster. Rooting for Lebron Jr., though I like both players.

Women's tourney is wide open. Can anyone stop Djokovic's Grand Slam? I really don't like him, but it would be cool to see it?

by Anonymousreply 347September 6, 2021 1:28 AM

White people who date, marry, or befriend black people like to think that.

by Anonymousreply 348September 6, 2021 1:28 AM

Fernandez plays Svitolina next, who she has a good chance of beating.

by Anonymousreply 349September 6, 2021 1:32 AM

I know I should be behind Tiafoe as an American, and I usually root for him but I like Felix better.

by Anonymousreply 350September 6, 2021 1:33 AM

"Alcaraz is the definition of butterface."

Also he has Latino porn bottom face.

I think he'll at least grow out of the acne.

by Anonymousreply 351September 6, 2021 1:33 AM

"Tiafoe is hot and you could stack dishes on his ass."

His ass and body is sublime. And I think he's hot. He walks like he just had a massive leg day at the gym and never stretches his hamstrings enough. Or, in my fantasy, like he just got dicked down by a massive cock or two with that perky ass arched high.

by Anonymousreply 352September 6, 2021 1:36 AM

There's great shirtless pics of Tiafoe readily available

by Anonymousreply 353September 6, 2021 1:40 AM

r310, no that is the definition of boring. At least Fernandez will try to be aggressive, could be her undoing but she's gotta try. I don't think she can out wall svitolina. The worst match I ever saw was between Errani and Radwanska. Errani was trying to go on the offense because Radwanska would do nothing to put away the ball. Radwanska beat her. So watch Svitolina push everything to get a win. Her husband is such a dynamic player and fun to watch but she is just like watching paint dry. I tried with Halep match and I just could enjoy it, it was so boring.

by Anonymousreply 354September 6, 2021 1:43 AM

r351, and with a little money he's making, he could get a decent haircut and soon will look better. Roger was no prize looker at 18

by Anonymousreply 355September 6, 2021 1:50 AM

Tiafoe is going to lose this match, he looks exhausted, and FAA still cool like a cucumber, plenty of fuel left in the tank!

by Anonymousreply 356September 6, 2021 1:50 AM

FAA really is the better player - just structurally and technically. But, he's no mental giant. He often has some out-of-nowhere lapses.

by Anonymousreply 360September 6, 2021 1:58 AM

I just want Tiafoe and FAA to flip fuck after this match. Imagine those legs wrapped up together

by Anonymousreply 361September 6, 2021 2:04 AM

It seems unfair to make Mugu and what's-her-name wait to play on AA to empty seats.

by Anonymousreply 362September 6, 2021 2:04 AM

I'll be shocked if FAA loses now. He's got all the momentum even though he's blown 2 sets before

Tiafoe looks a bit tired

by Anonymousreply 363September 6, 2021 2:06 AM

Tiafoe is the type of "brawn" players who like to show off and try to overpower the opponents, but unfortunately that style of play isn't working any more, tennis requires more brains now even for men!

by Anonymousreply 364September 6, 2021 2:07 AM

lol, those commentators on ESPN, they should have known the only reason a group of American men got into the second week this year is because players Thiem, Nadal, Federer... withdrew, otherwise there won't be any opening for them.

by Anonymousreply 372September 6, 2021 2:23 AM

"Tiafoe is the type of "brawn" players who like to show off and try to overpower the opponents, but unfortunately that style of play isn't working any more, tennis requires more brains now even for men!"

He's a high energy guy and needs to feed off energy. I think he often tries crazy shots to give himself a boost if he makes it.

Also, as athletic as he looks, he is by no means an elite mover, which is everything in today's game. He almost has to go for big shots earlier, because he doesn't have the footwork to construct long points and grind, turn defense into offense. I don't think he's that stupid. His physical game is just limited.

by Anonymousreply 373September 6, 2021 2:25 AM

You're delusional, R372. Federer is geriatric and played like it in his "comeback". Thiem has lapsed into a mental coma.

by Anonymousreply 374September 6, 2021 2:30 AM

He has a beautiful 'franglais' accent when speaking english. Sexy Montreal boy.

by Anonymousreply 390September 6, 2021 3:09 AM

[quote] mad lib face guy for a while.

Who’s that? The porcine Raonic?

by Anonymousreply 391September 6, 2021 3:18 AM

Thiem and Zverev played the worst Grand Slam final in history at the US Open last year. Thiem is probably hiding in shame.

by Anonymousreply 392September 6, 2021 3:29 AM

Raonic reminds me of those bouncing piggy from Angry Birds

by Anonymousreply 393September 6, 2021 3:31 AM

Muguruza is not making Krejcikova move enough. Krejcikova is currently the best in the world at controlling the center of the court. On the run she's quite vulnerable but most of the tour seems to be unable to handle her heavy weight-of-shot.

by Anonymousreply 394September 6, 2021 4:05 AM

If Krejcikova wins the title I hope she is a bit more excited about it than when she won the French. She has the personality of white bread.

by Anonymousreply 395September 6, 2021 4:10 AM

Mmmmm bread…

by Anonymousreply 396September 6, 2021 4:26 AM

So her coach, Conchita Martínez, did she come out? Just checked the wiki, no husband, no kids.

by Anonymousreply 397September 6, 2021 4:31 AM

R394 Mugu's game has regressed considerably after her peak win (wimbledon and Cincy) a few years back, she used to play with controlled aggression, now she is just grinding which would be fine but Mugu often lost her own patience and sending herself home, she needs to go back her old self, she has the power and moves well, really no need to exhaust herself on court.

by Anonymousreply 398September 6, 2021 4:34 AM

was she dating Stan the man?

by Anonymousreply 399September 6, 2021 4:35 AM

and wow Muguruza has come alive while Krejcikova got a bit tight.

by Anonymousreply 400September 6, 2021 4:38 AM

R398 I wonder about Martinez' influence over her game. She and Muguruza obviously have completely different styles. Martinez' game was never about power so I wonder if she coaches Garbine to be more consistent rather than going for the fast outright winners?

by Anonymousreply 401September 6, 2021 4:40 AM

Martinez got really fat.

by Anonymousreply 402September 6, 2021 4:40 AM

In terms of power, Krejcikova is more like a Davenport. She has real easy power but not the fast mph on tour. Both have some of the heaviest weight-of-shot you'll see in the women's game and the ball just explodes after it bounces.

In terms of raw power, Keys is the hardest hitter and her average groundstroke speeds often faster than some of the top 50 men. Her problem is purely consistency. The next tier down from her in terms of raw power are Osaka, Sabalenka, Serena and Kvitova. Venus used to be 1 of the hardest hitters but she's lost some of it over the last 10 years.

Muguruza is more in the third tier Sharapova, Azarenka and Pliskova category of power. She hits harder than most but not overwhelming

by Anonymousreply 403September 6, 2021 4:48 AM

I've heard Pammie saying about Keys that she was like Seles and Capriati who seemed to hit the ball harder when things got tense. The problem is those two to hit that hard between the lines.. When Keys is tense she sprays the second or third ball almost every time.

by Anonymousreply 404September 6, 2021 4:51 AM

sad that Krejcikova has some kind of medical issue now. The match was getting good

by Anonymousreply 405September 6, 2021 4:55 AM

in terms of power for the men, not in any particular order as I forget the exact mph stats but the 3 biggest forehands I remember are Del Potro, Blake and Gonzalez. When they hit their absolute hardest it could knock guys down. The biggest forehand on tour now is Berrettini but I haven't seen a mph stat for him yet so not sure how he compares with those other 3. Karatsev and Sock have huge forehands as well but I think Berrettini's is bigger. Basilashvili is up there as well.

by Anonymousreply 406September 6, 2021 4:58 AM

she went to the toilet for 8 min

by Anonymousreply 407September 6, 2021 5:00 AM

oh and Sinner! how could I forget he hits huge

Shapovalov is close

by Anonymousreply 408September 6, 2021 5:00 AM

stefanos said baby nadal hit really hard too.

by Anonymousreply 409September 6, 2021 5:01 AM

the bathroom break helped lol

by Anonymousreply 410September 6, 2021 5:02 AM

oh no the crowd boos

by Anonymousreply 411September 6, 2021 5:03 AM

this is poor sportsmanship

by Anonymousreply 412September 6, 2021 5:03 AM

R401 probably Mugu herself wants the change too, she was one of those players who won slams but not much elsewhere, like Li Na. After they won the slams and they try to be more consistent on tour, but the trade-off is they would lose their edge, the high risk tennis they were good at.

by Anonymousreply 413September 6, 2021 5:04 AM

Yeah Krejcikova seems quite injured. That MTO for sure wasnt tactical at all.

by Anonymousreply 414September 6, 2021 5:05 AM

Speaking of Del Potro, FAA is the youngest to make it to consecutive GS quarters since Delpo in 2008-2009.

by Anonymousreply 415September 6, 2021 5:07 AM

what did she say to her?

by Anonymousreply 416September 6, 2021 5:09 AM

lmao Muguruza was not having it at the handshake didn't hear what she said but it wasn't friendly and Krejcikova just waved her hand at her

by Anonymousreply 417September 6, 2021 5:10 AM

I hope she doesn't give Sabalenka a walkover. I want to see them play

by Anonymousreply 418September 6, 2021 5:10 AM

no one would want Delpo's career!

by Anonymousreply 419September 6, 2021 5:11 AM

ESPN saying Muguruza said "so unprofessional" at the net

Krejcikova is now crying. I think she's afraid that we all think she cheated

by Anonymousreply 420September 6, 2021 5:11 AM

she's grabbing her abs. or maybe pretending to be injured. wouldn't put it past her.

by Anonymousreply 421September 6, 2021 5:12 AM

Hope she loses the next round.

by Anonymousreply 422September 6, 2021 5:13 AM

hopefully it's not a torn abdominal.

by Anonymousreply 423September 6, 2021 5:13 AM

oh please, she's just tired.

by Anonymousreply 424September 6, 2021 5:14 AM

Is she freaking out for getting called out?

by Anonymousreply 425September 6, 2021 5:14 AM

who is she playing next round? wow, she's so weak, can barely walk.

by Anonymousreply 426September 6, 2021 5:14 AM

Sabalenka will be her next opponent

by Anonymousreply 427September 6, 2021 5:15 AM

Sabalenka will kill her.

by Anonymousreply 428September 6, 2021 5:15 AM

3 ladies slam winners left in the draw-Krejcikova in the QF and tomorrow we'll see if Andreescu and Swiatek can join her

by Anonymousreply 429September 6, 2021 5:16 AM

meanwhile Djokovic is the only male slam winner left since Murray and Cilic lost first round. Of course, Federer, Nadal, Wawrinka, Thiem and Del Potro aren't playing

by Anonymousreply 430September 6, 2021 5:17 AM

i don't believe she was injured at all, it was just an act.

by Anonymousreply 431September 6, 2021 5:19 AM

By career, R419, I presume you mean series of injuries and maladies that destroyed his results. Did anyone else have such a long list of physical setbacks?

by Anonymousreply 432September 6, 2021 5:19 AM

When is the annoying little Canadian fat girl playing again?

by Anonymousreply 433September 6, 2021 5:20 AM

Baby nadal ain't never gonna be good looking. He needs laser resurfacing to get rid of those acne scars.

by Anonymousreply 434September 6, 2021 5:20 AM

R430, Federer, Wawrinka, and Delpo are physical toast. Thiem is mental mush. Nadal would have been the only real threat.

by Anonymousreply 435September 6, 2021 5:22 AM

R432 yes Alexandra Stevenson!

by Anonymousreply 436September 6, 2021 5:23 AM

R433 Andreescu is playing primetime tomorrow against Sakkari after Djokovic vs. Brooksby

by Anonymousreply 437September 6, 2021 5:23 AM

wow, another late night. it's too late to be play ffs.

by Anonymousreply 438September 6, 2021 5:26 AM

"So her coach, Conchita Martínez, did she come out? Just checked the wiki, no husband, no kids."

Martinez has been out forever. When she was playing, she wasn't "out out" but she wasn't denying anything. She was none for being one of the bold players on tour - parading around the locker room naked. Granted, nobody was asking the tough questions. Anyway, Conchita Martinez is by no means closeted.

by Anonymousreply 439September 6, 2021 5:29 AM

Alcaraz isn't handsome but he's hot. He is stacked.

He's joli-laid, like Nadal was.

Mugu is just a cunt. You lost. Get over it.

by Anonymousreply 443September 6, 2021 1:06 PM

Mugu is a cunt

by Anonymousreply 444September 6, 2021 2:57 PM

It's no big deal R440, I never believed in handshakes either. Shaking your opponent's hand? Yuk.

A lot of the Talk Tennis (the forums connected to Tenniswarehouse) queens (or non queens) seem to love this Sinner guy. He does nothing for me. He's certainly a good player, but I can't see myself ever rooting for him. Of the good REALLY young guys (younger than the Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Zverev, Rublev group), I like FAA and Alcaraz better. In term of prospects, I'm not sure who will have the best career.

by Anonymousreply 446September 6, 2021 6:27 PM

Wow. I see nothing special in Raducanu's game that should be causing Rogers such trouble.

by Anonymousreply 447September 6, 2021 8:01 PM

Raducanu is very pretty; the tennis boys will be hounding her, poor thing.

by Anonymousreply 448September 6, 2021 8:07 PM

Rogers is just playing like shit. She's that sort of player - can be up and down. Radacanu is part of that - by getting so many balls back, making shots, and putting pressure on Shelby. But, still, Shelby's game is crap today.
