I've had both shots of the Moderna vaccine. A month ago I helped my neighbor get into a car so someone could drive him to a hospital. He was unvaccinated and quite sick. I helped lift him into the car. He tested positive for COVID in the hospital. So I believe I was exposed to it that day. For one day I was sneezing, but nothing else. I isolated myself and wore masks whenever I was out. A month later, now, I am fine, I never got sick. He recovered, and returned home, but his body took a beating from it. He is 75 and I think it's amazing he made it through that. This is all anecdotal, of course, but I believe the vaccine helped protect me. You can throw around numbers all you want. I have seen firsthand the effects of the virus on someone, and I am extremely glad I got vaccinated against that virus.

It's statistical health data that should be used to influence policy and it mirrors that which came out of Israel over the summer. The double vaccinated are nearly 2.5 times as likely to die from CV19 as the unvaccinated and the single vaxxed are doing notably better than both of those other groups. Also, the double vaxxed group shows nearly 3 times as many people under 50 becoming deathly ill as the unvaxxed group.

So, why do you think, given this hard data, that American media is making the provably false claim that 99% of people dying are unvaccinated?

Around 20 million of the UK's 67 million population is over 50 years of age. 95% of that the over-50s is around 19 million people. For there to be only 679 deaths from the Delta variant among 19 million people - and, let's not forget, this is the elderly population (over-70s and over-80s) with diseases and comorbidities - is remarkable.

The unvaccinated remaining 1 million of the over-50s (5%) has experienced 390 deaths from the Delta variant. If you include all the non-fully vaccinated (i.e. those who died before 14 days after their 2nd dose) that's 520 people.

The vaccines don't just work, they work bloody well.

To just further help maybe emphasize that vaccines work: I work at a designated COVID hospital and work with COVID patients all day, every day. I can say I have only pronounced one vaccinated person dead as opposed to many unvaccinated patients. More importantly, the vaccinated person that passed away ultimately passed due to an underlying illness exacerbated by their COVID infection. Most of my colleagues in other cities are seeing the same thing. So - YAY! - vaccines (and very smart people who were so quickly able to produce these vaccines).

r28, that's a cool anecdote, but it's anomalous to the actual data out of the UK, Israel and Iceland, which aren't politicizing, hiding or refusing to even collate data, as the US is.

R33, the data out of the UK shows that out of 19 million people over the age of 50 who were fully vaccinated only 679 have died from the Delta variant. Out of the 1 million people over 50 who are not vaccinated, 390 have died from the Delta variant and there were a further 120 deaths in the only partially vaccinated. That proves that being fully vaccinated massively reduces your chances of dying from Covid.

The US is hiding Covid deaths, r33? I doubt it.
