I have pneumonia and not COVID

My doctors were shocked. I had three negative COVID tests before they just called it “comminty acquired pneumonia” probably viral. . Even the radiologist said the chest x-ray looked like “classic COVID pneumonia”. I am vaccinated and even I was shocked i didn’t have COVID. I wasn’t sick or anything until slowly this lingering cough and wheeze started a few weeks ago..

They tested me for blood clots, recent heart attack, flu, strep, RSV and HIV-all negative.

And now I’m on oxygen and steroids and dreading going back in for a follow-up because they tried to hospitalize: me when they diagnosed me on Monday.

I literally haven’t left the house in a year and half and can’t imagine how I got this. I haven’t even had a cold for two years.

Viral cultures for COVID-19 infectious potential assessment – a systematic review

Conclusion: Complete live viruses are necessary for transmission, not the fragments identified by PCR. Prospective routine testing of reference and culture specimens and their relationship to symptoms, signs and patient co-factors should be used to define the reliability of PCR for assessing infectious potential. Those with high cycle threshold are unlikely to have infectious potential.

"I literally haven’t left the house"

"Literally" isn't necessary here - surely you must know that.

by Anonymousreply 6September 3, 2021 12:20 AM

I have fever and low blood oxygen. Forgive me, r6.

by Anonymousreply 7September 3, 2021 12:23 AM

I once developed pneumonia which they later found out was due to severe silent reflux. Apparently, I aspirated my stomach contents into my lung in my sleep. The pneumonia came out of nowhere in the summer and felt off, not like a typical respiratory virus, just a high fever and felt like I couldn't get air in my lungs.

My mom was told she had pneumonia from an Xray, but she did not improve with antibiotics and when they finally did a CAT scan, it turned out she never had pneumonia, it was stage 4 lung cancer.

Have your doctors considered one of those possibilities? The reflux is a pretty easy fix, the cancer not so much.

by Anonymousreply 8September 3, 2021 12:34 AM

😳 I’m either swallowing sleep vomit or I have cancer? Why couldn’t it have just been COVID?!

by Anonymousreply 9September 3, 2021 12:39 AM

Op it’s a classic & it applies: can i have your stuff?

by Anonymousreply 10September 3, 2021 12:42 AM

A hospital is the last place you should be these days.

by Anonymousreply 11September 3, 2021 12:42 AM

It’s me again R11 How ate you this moment? Are you feeling better? If not : are you sure you don’t need the hospital?

by Anonymousreply 12September 3, 2021 12:44 AM

I’m reply 10 not 11. A hospital is spooky but it could help. Ate you in a heavy covid area?

by Anonymousreply 13September 3, 2021 12:45 AM

I’m in a blue city with high vaccine rates and a moderate number of new cases. And no your can’t have my stuff. It’s good stuff. I’m taking it with me.

Illl find out if I have to go into the hospital probably next visit. My pulse ox was in the 80s and they didn’t want to let me leave without oxygen. It’s been consistently jn the 90s since I’m home. I probably won’t end up in the hospital.

by Anonymousreply 14September 3, 2021 12:53 AM

People should learn more about chlorhexidine mouthwash and what it can do to germ while it's still in your throat.

by Anonymousreply 15September 3, 2021 12:59 AM

those tests aren't always right. no matter how many times you test negative if you have all the symptoms then you probably have covid. I tested negative but I know I had it and still have the after effects after a year. I read that if tested before you are really sick with it the test can come back negative. By the time I was really sick with it there was no way I could drive myself to get another test.

Hi op I posted about wanting your stuff. Well i’m glad the oximeter is in 90’s. I wish you well.

by Anonymousreply 18September 3, 2021 1:16 AM

OP, did you get the pneumonia vaccine? and if not WHY THE FUCK NOT? and no it isn't 100% but it is very effective.

by Anonymousreply 19September 3, 2021 1:19 AM

I did get the pneumonia vaccine. Ever since I was 30 because I’m asthmatic.

by Anonymousreply 20September 3, 2021 2:10 AM

Is OP Kelly Osborne?

by Anonymousreply 21September 3, 2021 5:10 AM

I got community acquired pneumonia about 4 years ago (I was 48). I hadn't had the pneumonia vaccine, but I know exactly where it came from. A guy I was hooking up with had come back from a vacation and said he was getting over it (he didn't sound too bad). I was not making good decisions back then (which is why I kept hooking up with this guy) and ended up with it. It came on VERY fast for me though. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling like i was drowning/underwater and had to call my friend to drive me to the hospital. They did all their tests/xrays and sure enough, that's what I had. I don't recall getting oxygen, but I was kind of out of it, so i may have had one of those small oxygen masks on for awhile. Don't recall what my pulse ox was. I was in the hospital for 8 hours, then they sent me home. If i recall correctly, i received IV antibiotics and fluids while I was there. It didn't take long to heal, but to this day, i have a very faint wheeze sometimes when laying down at certain angles and especially when air quality is bad/smoky, so I believe my lungs sustained some permanent damage.

My thoughts are with you OP, I hope you heal quickly. I'm not going to ask for your stuff either. I've got enough crap of my own.

by Anonymousreply 22September 3, 2021 6:06 AM

I’ve asked to be buried in a storage facility with all my stuff so none of you can have it.

by Anonymousreply 23September 4, 2021 12:53 AM

Seriously OP you are at 90% on oxygen? Why aren’t you in the hospital? If it goes lower what will you do?

by Anonymousreply 24September 4, 2021 5:19 AM

I hope you are okay, OP.

by Anonymousreply 25September 4, 2021 9:22 AM

OP, check in when you can, please.

by Anonymousreply 26September 4, 2021 9:26 AM

Can I have your stuff?

by Anonymousreply 27September 4, 2021 10:02 AM

Quick, take some Ivermectin, I heard it stops pneumonia on Facebook.

by Anonymousreply 28September 4, 2021 3:20 PM

Hope you're doing okay. Check in if you get a chance.

by Anonymousreply 29September 4, 2021 7:14 PM

I’m alive. Going back to urgent care on Monday. Just need to take care of some things at home first in case they admit me. I’ll be fine.

by Anonymousreply 30September 4, 2021 11:05 PM

Thanks r28. I’ll try the ivermectin. If that doesn’t work I’ll try hydroxychloroquine or IV Clorox Tub and Tile.

by Anonymousreply 31September 4, 2021 11:10 PM

I'm glad you came back to check in, OP. Go to the ER if your pulse ox is low, don't try to tough that out.

by Anonymousreply 32September 5, 2021 1:50 AM

Two weeks later and I’m still on oxygen. My pneumonia cleared and then rebounded. I’ve been in bed for two weeks and am OVER it.

But I didn’t die so you can’t have my stuff yet!

by Anonymousreply 33September 25, 2021 4:24 AM

Feel better OP.

by Anonymousreply 34September 25, 2021 4:41 AM

I love your signature lines. You can’t die! We NEED you here!

by Anonymousreply 35September 25, 2021 4:49 AM

Almost two years ago, I drove myself to the ED because I felt shitty. Sore ribs and I couldn’t get enough air.

A zillion tests later, they diagnosed me with pneumonia in both lungs, one massive and several moderately sized pulmonary embolisms, and a pleural effusion. They admitted me. I don’t know what all they gave me through the IV, but I know that a few times my pulse ox was below 90. On day three, a really cute guy came to drain the effusion. He stopped at one liter of fluid and told me he’d be back the next day. The next day he got nearly another liter. I have never felt a simultaneous sensation as painful, strange, and delightful as the draining of the effusions.

I was discharged on day five and went home and basically collapsed into bed for several days. Then I injected four syringes of medication into my stomach for six months. Now I take warfarin every day. Last month I was diagnosed with CTEPH, for which the only cure is a frightening surgery that 5% of patients do not survive. A recently approved medicine is available and I start it in a couple weeks.

They talked about early COVID patients as “walking dead” because they had pulse ox reading in the mid-80’s. Pneumonia is no joke, but viral and fungal have to be scarier than bacterial. Hope you’re fully recovered soon, OP.

by Anonymousreply 36September 25, 2021 4:50 AM

*four shots per day for six months

by Anonymousreply 37September 25, 2021 4:53 AM

My oxygen slipped off while I was sleeping the other day and I took my pulse ox and it was 72(!)

With oxygen it stays around 95.

by Anonymousreply 38September 25, 2021 4:56 AM

I hope you get better soon, OP

by Anonymousreply 39September 25, 2021 5:29 AM

Had you been wearing a mask, OP?

by Anonymousreply 40September 25, 2021 5:34 AM

R6 Why did you call him Shirley?

Surely you know that's rude!

by Anonymousreply 41September 25, 2021 5:38 AM

My pulse ox is normally around 95, OP. obviously without oxygen.

I'm really hoping things clear up for you. Waking up without your oxygen on and being in the 70s is fucking scary. I binged a couple medical dramas back to back and being in the 80s was considered life threatening.

Pulling for you!

by Anonymousreply 42September 25, 2021 7:28 AM

I wear an mask when I leave the house which is never these days. This morning I blew my nose and what looked like a perfect little ear came out.

by Anonymousreply 43September 28, 2021 4:38 PM

My ex’s cousin tested negative for Covid at least twice and doctors were stumped. With the third test, it was positive. And then she died. No lie.

I hope that doesn’t happen to you, OP.

by Anonymousreply 44September 28, 2021 5:07 PM

[quote] I literally haven’t left the house in a year and half

This might be why you have pneumonia. Your lungs and heart move fluid through your body when you are moving/exercising and if you are inactive, fluid can build up and lead to pneumonia.

by Anonymousreply 45September 28, 2021 5:07 PM

My ex BIL just died of covid. Was on his way to a foreign country & tested positive. Sent home, died there.

by Anonymousreply 46September 28, 2021 5:36 PM

You "literally" haven't left the house in a year and a half, OP?

Goodness. Perhaps they should look closer at your other issues, or at least your being a fabulist.

Here's to your not dying.

PS I had pneumonia with minimal contact with others, and tested negative for COVID, and my PCP said, "We are seeing false negatives," and treated it as COVID.

by Anonymousreply 47September 28, 2021 5:44 PM

they are SHOCKED - SHOCKED i's tell ya

by Anonymousreply 48September 28, 2021 5:46 PM

I had pneumonia a few times back in 2020. I have reflux, too. I was on trelegy & I refused to take it anymore because made me prone to pneumonia. Now I take spiriva.
