I have pneumonia and not COVID
My doctors were shocked. I had three negative COVID tests before they just called it “comminty acquired pneumonia” probably viral. . Even the radiologist said the chest x-ray looked like “classic COVID pneumonia”. I am vaccinated and even I was shocked i didn’t have COVID. I wasn’t sick or anything until slowly this lingering cough and wheeze started a few weeks ago..
They tested me for blood clots, recent heart attack, flu, strep, RSV and HIV-all negative.
And now I’m on oxygen and steroids and dreading going back in for a follow-up because they tried to hospitalize: me when they diagnosed me on Monday.
I literally haven’t left the house in a year and half and can’t imagine how I got this. I haven’t even had a cold for two years.

PCR tests can't actually distinguish between viruses, says the guy who invented them.

Viral cultures for COVID-19 infectious potential assessment – a systematic review
Conclusion: Complete live viruses are necessary for transmission, not the fragments identified by PCR. Prospective routine testing of reference and culture specimens and their relationship to symptoms, signs and patient co-factors should be used to define the reliability of PCR for assessing infectious potential. Those with high cycle threshold are unlikely to have infectious potential.

"I literally haven’t left the house"
"Literally" isn't necessary here - surely you must know that.

I once developed pneumonia which they later found out was due to severe silent reflux. Apparently, I aspirated my stomach contents into my lung in my sleep. The pneumonia came out of nowhere in the summer and felt off, not like a typical respiratory virus, just a high fever and felt like I couldn't get air in my lungs.
My mom was told she had pneumonia from an Xray, but she did not improve with antibiotics and when they finally did a CAT scan, it turned out she never had pneumonia, it was stage 4 lung cancer.
Have your doctors considered one of those possibilities? The reflux is a pretty easy fix, the cancer not so much.

😳 I’m either swallowing sleep vomit or I have cancer? Why couldn’t it have just been COVID?!

I’m reply 10 not 11. A hospital is spooky but it could help. Ate you in a heavy covid area?

I’m in a blue city with high vaccine rates and a moderate number of new cases. And no your can’t have my stuff. It’s good stuff. I’m taking it with me.
Illl find out if I have to go into the hospital probably next visit. My pulse ox was in the 80s and they didn’t want to let me leave without oxygen. It’s been consistently jn the 90s since I’m home. I probably won’t end up in the hospital.

People should learn more about chlorhexidine mouthwash and what it can do to germ while it's still in your throat.

those tests aren't always right. no matter how many times you test negative if you have all the symptoms then you probably have covid. I tested negative but I know I had it and still have the after effects after a year. I read that if tested before you are really sick with it the test can come back negative. By the time I was really sick with it there was no way I could drive myself to get another test.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine. Ever since I was 30 because I’m asthmatic.

I got community acquired pneumonia about 4 years ago (I was 48). I hadn't had the pneumonia vaccine, but I know exactly where it came from. A guy I was hooking up with had come back from a vacation and said he was getting over it (he didn't sound too bad). I was not making good decisions back then (which is why I kept hooking up with this guy) and ended up with it. It came on VERY fast for me though. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling like i was drowning/underwater and had to call my friend to drive me to the hospital. They did all their tests/xrays and sure enough, that's what I had. I don't recall getting oxygen, but I was kind of out of it, so i may have had one of those small oxygen masks on for awhile. Don't recall what my pulse ox was. I was in the hospital for 8 hours, then they sent me home. If i recall correctly, i received IV antibiotics and fluids while I was there. It didn't take long to heal, but to this day, i have a very faint wheeze sometimes when laying down at certain angles and especially when air quality is bad/smoky, so I believe my lungs sustained some permanent damage.
My thoughts are with you OP, I hope you heal quickly. I'm not going to ask for your stuff either. I've got enough crap of my own.

Almost two years ago, I drove myself to the ED because I felt shitty. Sore ribs and I couldn’t get enough air.
A zillion tests later, they diagnosed me with pneumonia in both lungs, one massive and several moderately sized pulmonary embolisms, and a pleural effusion. They admitted me. I don’t know what all they gave me through the IV, but I know that a few times my pulse ox was below 90. On day three, a really cute guy came to drain the effusion. He stopped at one liter of fluid and told me he’d be back the next day. The next day he got nearly another liter. I have never felt a simultaneous sensation as painful, strange, and delightful as the draining of the effusions.
I was discharged on day five and went home and basically collapsed into bed for several days. Then I injected four syringes of medication into my stomach for six months. Now I take warfarin every day. Last month I was diagnosed with CTEPH, for which the only cure is a frightening surgery that 5% of patients do not survive. A recently approved medicine is available and I start it in a couple weeks.
They talked about early COVID patients as “walking dead” because they had pulse ox reading in the mid-80’s. Pneumonia is no joke, but viral and fungal have to be scarier than bacterial. Hope you’re fully recovered soon, OP.

My pulse ox is normally around 95, OP. obviously without oxygen.
I'm really hoping things clear up for you. Waking up without your oxygen on and being in the 70s is fucking scary. I binged a couple medical dramas back to back and being in the 80s was considered life threatening.
Pulling for you!

[quote] I literally haven’t left the house in a year and half
This might be why you have pneumonia. Your lungs and heart move fluid through your body when you are moving/exercising and if you are inactive, fluid can build up and lead to pneumonia.

Goodness. Perhaps they should look closer at your other issues, or at least your being a fabulist.
Here's to your not dying.
PS I had pneumonia with minimal contact with others, and tested negative for COVID, and my PCP said, "We are seeing false negatives," and treated it as COVID.
