Why did The Spice Girls update the video to “2 Become 1” with a replacement verse?
In the song Victoria “Posh Spice” originally sings “Any deal that we endeavor, boys and girls go good together, take it or leave it, take it or leave it”.
That’s the verse I’ve always known.
But now in the video the lyric is “ Once again if we endeavor, love will bring us back together, take it or leave it, take it or leave it”
Why did they change the lyric? Even the way she sings it is different. It sounds like it was stitched on later.

They wanted to be all inclusive and not leave the impression that love applies only to boys and girls. It could be boys and boys or girls and girls or trans and trans.

Geri sings that part on the album version. It rings a vague bell in an interview of Geri saying she couldn’t sing that part live well (oh the irony) so for the single Victoria re-recorded it (oh even more irony). Maybe they just wanted to give Posh some more lines for the single as she was so left out on Wannabe and they saw the chance to make it more gay friendly at the same time. It’s kind of odd they didn’t think of that in 1995/early 1996 though when they recorded the album but did think of later on in 1996. Not exactly a huge amount of time between. Maybe they realised once they got famous they had a whole load of gays on board.

I've always heard the latter. But then I didn't hear this song until sometime in the 2000s.
